obviously i am by no means a professional or even a Good artist myself lol but as an art appreciator the entire ai thing just leaves me so unfazed because every ai piece i've seen so far had that exact same ultra smoothed stiff lifeless attempted-but-not-quite photorealistic look to it that i just don't find exciting at all. admittedly i don't go looking for ai art but i have seen quite a few (most of which were samey pin ups) and it's all just been like, okay. acknowledge but scroll past without much of a glance. it's like the fast food of art, and not the indulgent stuff either. the kind of image that, if i'm honest, is supremely uninteresting to me from a real person too. meanwhile every artist i've actually been interested in had a unique stylisation or fluidity or nonrealistic palette or interesting linework or memorable designs or storytelling or humour or what ever original spark in there that ai just doesn't even get close to. and i doubt it ever will because by nature it can only copy what already existed and in practice it's mainly trained and used for boring shit. i can understand the fears of career artists (although tbh the horses have left the barn on that one) but acting like ai threatens real people artistically or threatens some sort of integrity of art and going all crisis mode about it is like saying home-cooking is threatened because there's now a lot of boxes of cold mcdonalds fries on the ground outside. idk
