This is a mother and her calf. Like humans they nurse their young. They are very playful. There have been reports of mothers splashing water on the calf and hugging it.

This photo was taken in 1951 even though whaling was banned in 1935. If you killed a right whale you were basically instantly rich. They contained so much oil, fat and their bones and baleen teeth make great products.
