Note
what I have learnt from this is you prefer mellow and or drivey songs but need a lot of lyrical changes
Love that you're conducting that analysis anon!
This sounds about right - keep the suggestions coming.

Shot in the dark by Within Temptation
I like the tone of the lead singer's voice. I can't think who she reminds me of - will add if I remember. It's interesting that this song also had repetition in the middle (like drywall by paris paloma that I listened to just before it), but this one felt more varied somehow. It may just have been slightly shorter! I liked it, but not sure I'd necessarily choose it. I'd maybe add it to a driving playlist tho.
Favourite part: The surge after the bridge/quiet section in the middle.

Map of the Problematique by Muse?
I like the name of this one! There was a bit much in terms of instrumental for me though, so it's not a hit overall. I'm especially not a huge fan of a long instrumental introduction ... I want words!
Falvourite part: I like the lyric "And no one thinks they are to blame, Why can't we see that when we bleed, we bleed the same?"

Undisclosed Desires by Muse?
Wow, it's an old one! I liked this one a lot more than Butterflies and Hurricanes and I'd probably listen to it again. I also liked the little melody that repeats ... the dun dun dun-dun (if that makes any sense) .. it appears at various times, but I particularly liked it at the end.
Favourite part: The chorus for sure. The delivery of the "I. want. to ..." is appealing to me.

Butterflies and Hurricanes by Muse?
Initially, I quite liked this one and I was thinking it might be a good one for a running playlist, but I wasn't keen on the drums and heavier production as the song went on or the piano section.
Favourite part: The opening 1:20. I liked the lower delivery and the beat.

When The Dark Dresses Lightly by AURORA?
I'm not sure that I'd listen to this one again. I liked the rhythm of the chorus and the little "ooh-oo" section that followed it, but there were other parts that didn't appeal as much to me and I don't see a situation where I'd choose it to listen to.
Favourite part: I liked the chorus and the "ooh-oo, I just wanna cry" - really liked the tone and cadence of that part.

Lonely is the muse by Halsey ?
This wasn't my favourite of the Halsey songs I've heard. I wasn't keen on the heavy guitars and more forceful parts of her delivery, especially the scream-y part at the end.
Favourite part: I liked the slightly ominous part where she's almost whispering. It felt kind of threatening without being too overt about it.

Shrike - Hozier
It was a bit slow for me in general. I felt like I wanted more buildup and I didn't really get it. I found it difficult to focus on the lyrics for some reason.
Favourite part: I enjoyed the last repetition of the chorus before the end. Kinda contradictory to me finding it too slow overall, I know, but it appealed for some reason. Maybe just the cadence of the lyrics.

dead girl walking by Jensen McRae xx
She has a really interesting voice. The lyrics and the music are quite contradictory - it sounds like it should be a jaunty tune, but it's actually pretty dark! I quite liked it. Would definitely listen to it in the car or just relaxing in the house.
Favourite part: "I'm a dead girl walking, but I've walked this far"

We can go anywhere, feelin' you by Jesse McCartney?
I'm not a huge fan of his voice, it's too nasally for me, I think. It was ok, I wouldn't skip it, but it's not one I'd pick to listen to.
Favourite part: Probably the beat, it's a real foot-tapper!

Okay, what about Alice by Rhys?
This one would definitely find a home on my chill playlist. I like the heartfelt delivery of it and the simplicity of the arrangement. Really nice song.
Favourite part: The fact that the story follows both people supporting each other. Also, just the nice, sweet vocals.

Stealing Cars and High Score by The Veronicas?
Stealing Cars - I liked this one well enough. It doesn't stand out as a must listen, but I wouldn't turn it off or skip it.
Favourite part: The chorus, especially the first line - it just pleases my brain.
High Score - I wasn't really into the delivery of this one in the verses. The chorus was alright, but I probably wouldn't re-listen to it despite that.
Favourite part: I liked the lyric: "pocket full of quarters, nothing ever out of order". It flows really nicely.
Sorry anon, these two weren't really a hit except for little moments.

Emilie Autumn-Across The Sky, How Strange, Heard It All?
I already knew Across the Sky - someone recommended it to me before and it's been on my playlist for a while. I'm not a huge fan of the talky bit at the start, but I really like the rest of it.
How Strange - This one is quite different from Across the Sky. Much more staccato and I'm not sure whether I liked it or not tbh! Parts of it kinda reminded me of a Justin Timberlake song, but I can't remember which - I think it was the cadence.
Favourite part: The layers in the last 30 secs or so.
Heard It All - I liked her delivery and lower register during the verses, but wasn't particularly into the distortion in the chorus (although it did get stuck in my head a bit!). I probably wouldn't listen to this one again, Across The Sky is deinitely my favourite of these 3.
Favourite part: The catchiness of the chorus even though I didn't enjoy the actual sound of it all that much.

Black Wave by K Flay?
This one wasn't really my taste, especially when it got a bit heavier on the drums and the kinda screamy "don't test me". I liked the general speed of the song though - it felt like it kept moving. If it wasn't for going a little bit harder than my taste, it might've made a running playlist.
Favourite part: I like the spaciness of the sound in the chorus, even though I'm not a huge fan of the elongated "ay" sounds in maze/days etc.

Hold the girl by Rina Sawayama?
I really liked this in general, but couldn't stand the chorus/dancy repetition of the title. I like her voice and the message in the lyrics about valuing the person you are and were.
Favourite part: The bridge. I liked the pace of it and the fact she was giving the vocals more strength without pushing too far.
