It’s baffling how so many people in this fandom have fully deluded themselves into thinking that Daenerys will burn down king’s landing when that’s not only completely unsupported by the text but also fundamentally misinterprets Dany as a character and the narrative as a whole.

Many people argue that Dany will burn down the city because the people of KL will prefer Aegon over her. This is an argument already built on shaky ground because this is an assumption that requires us to believe that Dany will even go to battle with Aegon. A claim which frankly, has very little basis in the actual story. A lot of fans latch onto GRRM mentioning a second dance of dragons, but they completely disregard his clarification that such conflict does not necessarily involve an invasion from Dany (I personally think it’ll be between her and Euron but that’s a topic for another day). And secondly, unlike HBO’s adaptation, to book!dany, family is important and she feels sad at the idea of being the last Targaryen. She wouldn’t go to war against her own family.

And the timeline for this is dubious at best and utterly fucking moronic at worst. The assumption that she will arrive in Westeros in time to confront a reigning Aegon overlooks the long journey she still faces in Essos. There is a lot of groundwork that GRRM laid that shows us her journey there is far from over. Essos is an insanely vast continent, moving through it will consume a lot of time and resources and events will continue to unfold in Westeros independently of her, just as they have in the 5 novels we have available.

And the belief that Dany will be rejected by the people of Westeros in favour of Aegon is another assumption that has absolutely no base in text. Aegon, as we’ve seen in Dance, is very far from being an ideal ruler, he’s shown as unlikeable and unfit to rule, with Tyrion even comparing him to Joffrey. Also the belief that Aegon’s reign will be peaceful and/or that he will be beloved is equally flawed. Westeros still is a fractured, war-torn continent with further conflicts still ahead. He has many potential enemies, his ascension will most likely provoke even more conflict, not universal love and butterflies. The claim that he’ll be a good king comes from Varys, who is the key mastermind behind all this and as the text has repeatedly shown us, and Varys is hardly reliable.

Why would the people of Westeros chose a potentially illegitimate Targaryen when all they have is his word that he is who he is (literally source: dude trust me) over a Targaryen with dragons who has Barristan the Bold with her and who has a history of ruling already, is ridiculous.

And onto my final point, the idea that Dany would just decide to burn a city to the ground because the people don’t like her is a fundamental misunderstanding of her character. Throughout ASOIAF she has been shown as a ruler who cares deeply about people, and to whom justice is important. The whole mad queen dany bs relies heavily on illogical plot developments and a version of Dany’s character that exists nowhere but in a season of Game of Thrones that was mocked by the entire world.

The Archetypes of Red Rose, White Rose

I need to balance my brain out due to sudden onset of depression. It is the result. Rommel is probably the only general who, even if you draw him from the back, he's still recognizable- flowers, a camera, and love for beauty. Rommel has a Venus-Mercury conjunct with a direct Neptune influence; he is going to appreciate artistic expressions.

In fact, this colored-doodle with an unintentional Mucha vibe has the energy of his wife Lucy in mind. According to some sources, Rommel wrote home to Lucy daily, as it was reported to be his mental crutch- I imagine it to be transcendental emotional support, not unlike my own experience, my own relationship with our Tumblr community here. Whether you guys interact with me directly or not, you keep me alive. My sincere thanks to you.

Lucy was a formal dancer in Danzig with a decent middle-class background, her father seemed to be a land owner- Lucy being able to do art, probably added to his admiration for her- fellow artists, angelic companionship.

I suppose he did need emotional supports, and a lot of it-- Rommel is the only high commander with whom Kessering "the smiling Albert" did not get along-- which is a feat. After all, Kessering was very renowned for his exceedingly cordial and diplomatic temperament. The same could be said of von Rundstedt, the calm, gentlemanly, old Prussian field marshal. These two could put up with some bad BS from any one else, except Rommel. He was too intense, too mentally off-balance, too difficult to deal with for his colleagues.

There are a few things I noticed from Rommel's biography (including the Trail of the Fox, 2005), that allow me to make some observations. His love for Lucy appears to be non-sexual. They had their only son 12 years after marriage. That is a pretty long time, not customary with a Scorpio man who has a 8th house Mars (who is supposed to have at least above average sex drive).

As a matter of fact, Rommel had a daughter with Walburga Stemmer before his marriage with Lucy was finalized. At that point Rommel’s family felt the need to step in and strong-armed him back with his fiancée-- one reason being to prevent the young lieutenant from the pitfalls of sex and alcohol. In my humble opinion, the subtext here might be Lucy would not lead him astray in that regard, therefore his conservative family would rather have him marrying Lucy.

A side note, Stemmer family still holds a collection of hopelessly romantic letters from Rommel. Did Rommel write comparable letters to Lucy at that point in time? A bit hard to tell.

I could not recall which article comments that Rommel was "hen-pecked' in the household, but Lucy was dominant at home, that part had been very true.

Ouch, I don't know, some aspects of this living environment must've been toxic to Rommel no matter how much some folks wants to romanticize it. It is horrible to be in a friend group where there's a mean girl boss who takes pride in ruling over her husband and turning any girl who crosses her into a persona-non-grata. But I digress. Back to my title.

Nevertheless, for me, Lucy being archetypal White Rose still holds water as a concept.

The Red Rose- White Rose archetypes originated from the same-titled short novel by Zhang Ailing, one of the 20th century's greatest female writers. She depicts love's tragedies as Chin dynasty fell apart and China marched into an era of post-colonialism, world war II, civil wars and partisan conflicts-- and eventually, modernity.

White rose is your ideal wife, the guardian of your family's social standing. She is angelic, she seems docile, she reminds you that you are from a place of honor and integrity, not of seedy backgrounds and carnal desires. White rose kills love by loving you, by being stable, by calming you down whenever you freak out. Very slowly, she castrates you, she brings you home to domesticate you.

The Red Rose symbolizes those dark desires, a black hole that sucks you in to have sex with you, a fragrant bed, a sex dungeon you do not have the will power to claw yourself out of. Red rose loves you by conquering you, destroying you and everything you represent and cherish with triumphant strides. Very quickly Red rose tears you down, burns all your bridges, until you are beyond recognition, until you are flesh, blood, fire and desire, a literal mess.

It is implied in Ailing's novel that men invariably choose the White Rose, because they are human, all too human. Marrying her, he regrets it; not marrying her, he regrets it even more. Such is love's tragedy in the face of humanity, and tragedy is the only inevitability in Ailing's universe. That's why I pull Lucy in as a faint through-line in my Montgomery x Rommel fanfics... not that I am going to write any more, I don't think so.

And yes, Red Rose is synonymous with Bernard Montgomery, in my fandom brain's humble opinion.

Tadaima, Okaeri Episode 6 Review - Visiting Masaki's Hometown

I noticed that out of all the episodes so far, this one is the first instance where Hikari takes a backseat. He’s usually a part of the family as his own character, solving family issues with his toddler logic. However, the conflict for this episode is something that adults can only resolve, hence why Hikari and Hinata are mainly background characters for this episode. I think it’s nice to see an episode giving insight to the parents for once, to be honest.

It’s nice seeing Hiromu conflicted over Masaki wanting to return to his hometown as he knew that it always troubled his spouse even before they were married. What Hiromu wants is to not let Masaki get hurt, but he’s doing his best to not be too overbearing as he knows and respects Masaki as a strong-willed person. It really shows how much he loves and respects him. The birthday episode was a good way to show off Hiromu’s worries and admiration of his spouse. The way he was caressing his hand and telling him that he wouldn’t forgive anyone who hurts him was way too romantic. Hiromu is seriously raising the standards of ideal husbands and fathers.

Masaki’s cousin Kazuhiko is introduced here. He has a bit of an attitude problem yet he works for the hospitality industry. Sir, your attitude is unfitting for someone who works for this line of work. Anyways, Kazuhiko seems to be someone who cannot get over his own prejudices and biases out of his head. Ever since he was young, he was forced into the idea that Masaki was miserable and tragic, hence he was sort of forced to watch over him, which also lead to the verbal engagement. Given that he always believed that Masaki would always be miserable, the idea that he has a family and is currently happy cannot get to him. He’s being overprotective since Masaki married an alpha and had to endure even more prejudices due to his marriage to the point of being way too overbearing and that upsets Masaki. While there might be implications that he had feelings for Masaki, I see it more like Kazuhiko sees him as an obligation that he cannot get over. He’s obliged in his belief that Masaki will always be miserable no matter what life choices he makes and the idea of him being happy is something futile.

To play devil’s advocate, I also think Masaki was in the wrong for not contacting his relatives. I get that living in his hometown was suffocating for him and that not returning meant running away, but suddenly contacting family one day and telling them that you got married and have two kids would be a shock to anyone. Though, despite that, it’s still wrong to treat the sudden changes in Masaki’s life poorly. He’s happier with Hiromu than he was in his hometown. There’s no reason to continue treating Masaki as someone who can never be happy because of that. There’s also a reason why Masaki wanted to bring his family, especially his husband, after trying to hide them away from his relatives for so long. Hiromu was right to call out Kazuhiko on his BS.

Yuuki and Matsuo tag along in their trip. The reason they were invited was so that Masaki can show his parents that he is very happy now. He has a loving husband, two adorable kids and friends who accept him as he is. I’m amazed with how Yuuki got mad and yelled at Kazuhiko for his harsh words. Since his debut, Yuuki is reserved and shy around people so for him to muster up all that frustration and yell at him shows how much Masaki means to him as a friend. After all, he did say that he loves the Fujiyoshi family in Episode 3 and always wants them to be happy. The little MatsuYuu moments were cute too with Matsuo distracting Yuuki with snacks to him holding Yuuki back after his outburst.

The voice acting was really great here. Kazuhiko is voiced by Junta Terashima, who also voiced him in the drama CD. The way Kazuhiko was soft-spoken at first but then gradually raises his voice was really good. Yuuki’s voice actor Taku Yashiro really delivered that outburst so well. It’s so in-character with Yuuki with how his words are a bit shaky but still angry nonetheless. Morikawa also did a great job with the softer voice at first and then the way his tone became angrier at the end was good. This anime really has a great cast.

Speaking of which, there’s a little interesting detail you might not have noticed. Kazuhiko’s surname is Ogiwara. His father is Masaki’s uncle, who is his mother’s brother, yet Masaki’s maiden name was Ogiwara. If his mother had married a man, Masaki’s surname wouldn’t be Ogiwara, but the name that his mother would’ve taken since wives take the husbands surname in marriage; it’s only a rare occasion that a husband takes the wife’s surname. Since his maiden name was Ogiwara, this means that his mother’s surname was still Ogiwara even after marriage, meaning that she either married a man who took her surname, which is rare, especially for the countryside, or she married a woman who gave birth to Masaki and that woman took her surname. As someone who read the manga, mentions of Masaki having a father has never been brought upon. I once saw a post with the implications that Masaki’s parents are both female and it is implied here with how Kazuhiko says “Oba-san tachi”. Though, take my words with a grain of salt.

Unlike the conflict with Kouji, the conflict with Kazuhiko is a two-parter. I do like that it’s not resolved in just one episode. It isn’t a bad thing, but sometimes, it takes time to resolve issues between relatives. This time, Masaki has to muster up the courage to tell Kazuhiko that he’s happy now. I can’t wait to see how it’ll be played out next week. What are your thoughts on this episode?

I’m seriously getting burnt out from reading lengthy discussion posts. They are interesting to read but there are now too many those that reading one more does not really change much of how I see things.

I have limited time to devote my attention to this fandom, and I don’t really care if the major fan accounts are beefing or what the trolls are saying, why do I need to know about them because it makes no difference?

It is exhausting to have to filter through all of this nonsense just to keep up with Nic and Luke. Great respect to people who spend hours creating these dialogues and stalking the internet so they know what they are talking about.

Unfortunately, the fandom is going around in circle, creating conflicts and dramas among itself due to the serious lack of actual Lukola content.

If only I could pop in just five minutes daily to read a quick briefing before signing off again to avoid all BS 🤭. Yeah that would be ideal!

Random thoughts that prove mike wheeler is probably gay and that el doesn’t need him + love triangle imagery

I’m gonna admit it, i am very much a mike wheeler defender but i will slander him this once, he’s being shitty like any teenager would that would be going through trauma. But the thing about mike is that he’s a character and when characters hit low points usually they have internal conflict which leads to further character development.

Mikes internal conflict is his internalized homophobia, that’s what changed his character in s3. He realized something in s2 and in s3 he used el to seem like he’s not gay. He pushed everyone away stated by will in the rain fight. He was so focused on being something he was not because he internally feared his feelings for will. We see him realize these feelings at the end of s3 and to why he was so conflicted during the kiss scene. This relationship between el and mike is called a “beard” a beard is when a queer person uses someone of the opposite sex to appeal straight. That is EXACTLY what m*leven is. El loves mike(probably) but mike does not love eleven. We see this with nancy in s1-2, she can’t say i love you to steve because she simply doesn’t love him. It’s as simple as that. Stancy and milkvan are paralleled to eachother, and many platonic relationships or failed relationships are paralleled with m*lkvan.

I don’t like mileven as i think it’s unhealthy, it makes me sad to see them like that. And seeing how much better they do without each other is better. Milkvan being endgame would make mike the shittiest character written(sorry not sorry) and elevens whole thing with max, and learning about herself and to be independent was a useless arc. And I don’t like the whole idealization mike has for el, el seems to dislike it when she’s compared to a superhero. I don’t know how mike, gaslighting, shifting blame onto el while she’s sobbing is healthy. Even mike said “it’s a fight that you can’t come back from”

In the pizza place, I’m sure mike and el were going to have a mutual breakup before getting interrupted by argyle. After that during the scene where mike is trying to save el, he feels pressured to say i love you to el. I don’t know why someone would struggle to say that especially when they’re in a life or death situation, clearly el doesn’t believe his bs, the vines got tighter around her neck showing weakness, there’s also lighting in the background. It’s when she looks at max, that’s when she gets the power to fight. Not mikes cringe ass speech.

Overall the scene was just sad, I didn’t see anything romantic in that scene, I honestly saw more Byler potential within a “m*leven” scene. It was just sad. Also when mike said i love you, will was in the back. This may mean something. Maybe that will was in the back of his head when he said that. A lot of his speech had will in the back, usually in heart to hearts or confessions, it’s only the two, only their faces. Focused on them and only them. Which this could be love triangle imagery, which is seen a lot in s4 with will, el and mike. Like when el and mike reunited, will is in the middle of them. Also both will snd mike and the same body language with el, which shows that mike and el are platonic:)

If she DOES die than Tigerheart better also die in this arc or else imma be pretty mad about it. I hate Tigerheart so much, especially since it should’ve absolutely been Tawnypelt in the position of ShadowClan’s leader instead of him. It seems like every time we almost get a female leader of ShadowClan they die or step down (Russetfur, Tawnypelt, now potentially Cloverfoot) and I hope that cycle doesn’t continue. I like Cloverfoot and hate Tigerheartstar with every fibre of my being so I would ideally love it if she became leader instead of him, however I just currently don’t see that happening due to her general irrelevancy despite her being deputy. But that did work out for Harestar so who knows.

I personally think that thanks to Berryheart’s efforts, Tigerstar is going to be the first leader to be voted out of power. I am going to be very annoyed if he’s still in power at the end of the arc. He is great for causing conflict, but at the same time I just can’t stand him lol. I’m personally on team “Sunbeam for leader” by the end of the arc if Cloverfoot does kick the bucket.

This is a REALLY unpopular opinion, but I actually really loved the break-up in 2521. It felt so realistic and so undramatic. Yes, it made me bawl like a baby, but I also felt it so deep in my bones. I was going through a very difficult phase with my boyfriend when I watched it, and it made me feel validated. Like, couples are allowed to have problems that may seem minor to outsiders, but it can matter so deep to the people involved that it can even lead to a break up. Such perfect depth.

See I wouldn't have minded the ending if it didn't completely go against the characters and their earlier scenes. I agree real couples and breakups have depth and nuances but we should HAVE SEEN THAT IN THE SHOW NOT JUST PRETENDED IT WAS THERE CAUSE THEY TOLD US IT WAS

Like, you're telling me they survived a longer separation when they were kids and weren't even together but then he goes off as adults and is seeing some of the most traumatic things ever and they butcher nhd's character so hard by going "yeah but he needs to pay more attention to ME" even though the foundations of their relationship involved distance and friendship LIKE COME ON. It destroyed their characters, byj WHOSE ENTIRE GOAL WAS TO GET BACK TO HIS LOVED ONES was like "actually I'm gonna stay in this place where I'm miserable because I have to or some bs" and nhd who was one of the sweetest most understanding caring person is like "actually I don't care about your trauma I care about what I want even though I'm the one who travels for work all the time" LIKE IT DOESNT MAKE SENSE.

If they breakup happened for other reasons, or if we had seen more of their relationship falling part and like ah yes they need to breakup its good for them it might have worked but they didn't. Everytime they had am argument about byj's work they made up and moved on. But instead the main issue was miscommunication which I fucking hate in general but it was worse here because THEY ALWAYS COMMUNICATED WELL. EVEN WHEN ALL THEY HAD WAS FUCKING VOICEMAILS THEY COMMUNICATED WELL you cannot tell me they lost that ability by dating no fucking way make it make sense.

Because it didn't fit with their characters and what we knew of them and their relationship, the conflict didn't work for me and thus the breakup felt forced and unnecessary. The last two episodes felt like I was watching an entirely different drama with different characters because thye did not make any sense at all and just ugh

Also the fact that we clearly see both of them are unhappy in their later lives. NHD is always complaining about a shitty absent husband, and she didn't even seem happy when they were newlyweds (wanting a divorce instead come on) like what a sucky way to see it. And BYJ though we don't see much from him he still feels lonely and is a workaholic. The drama didn't give us any closure for them as characters, ans since we watched them grow up and end it with them still being sad and hung up on the other.

If the show had ended with a hopeful open ending, even if they were broken up, I'd feel better about it. Maybe we got to see NHD's husband and see why she married him and that he's good for her. Maybe we'd get to see BYJ with a family of his own or at least some goddamn friends, something to show he healed from that trauma of his nyc stay, idk.

Obviously my ideal ending would have been for them to get back together after a couple years apart and him to have been the dad all along BUT by the end I was okay with the idea that at the very least they can reconnect as friends when they're older. At its core their story was about friendship, and I would have been satisfied if she just like met up with her friends. But no, we don't know what happened to the friends at the end. I don't know if she and bona's character are still friends, if the other two are still married (and THAT was not a realistic romance okay that was bs comparing the two ships and seeing that was the one that lasted was a slap on the face) or whether the smart one whose name i also forgot got to live up to her full potential and be satisfied with her career (i actually liked her working on a variety show it suited her character but also id like to see something). We didnt get to see any of the character grow into people they wanted to be, just hopelessness. It destroyed the main premise that we got from the first 14 episodes. It would have been an easy fic just like a fucking ending shot with her getting a group text from the friend group or contacting byj to meet up and catch up like seriously anything would have been better than seeing her walk off into the distance like "well I can't change my past but i can sure live in it cause my current life sucks)

Not to mention the poor casting choice where older nhd just ended up becoming the most stereotypical ajumma I've seen down to fashion it felt like I was watching some other show. Kim tae ri could have stayed in that role and worn different makeup at least then it would have felt like the same character instead of feeling like it was another drama entirely jfc.

They didn't advertise this drama as a sad one, or at least there was some definite disconnect between the writer and the directors/actors. Even kim tae ri asked the writer to change the ending cause she thought it didn't fit with the story. They changed a lot and it was advertised as a coming of age romance, not the melodrama is became. It just was so incongruous and I hate how it didn't fit with the characters I grew to love.

I'm glad it was cathartic for you but it left me feeling really shitty and hopeless at the end, and that's the feeling I get still when I think about it. It really had the potential to be my favorite drama of all time (something that hasn't changed in nearly a decade since coffee prince for crying out loud) but I can't even think about rewatching it. It's just something I find so unsatisfying.

Plus I hate the message of the story becoming something like "your teens and early 20s are the best years of your life after that it sucks and you just have to be okay with that" like no gtfo. This is a problem across the board in Korea where married women with kids who are miserable just have to be okay with that and I'm sorry I hate it sooooo much. If they just showed that everyone was happy and that their lives were good and importantly THAT THEY STILL HAD EACH OTHER AND FRIENDS it would have told a different story that yes you grow up and change but life doesn't end and you can still go back and be with people who care about you and God I just there was so much wasted potential that they fucked up so bad

Once she became a lawyer she entered the marriage with the motto of loyalty above all. 

The relationship was something she never expected for herself, she experienced feelings she didn’t expect.

For a while things were stable, they even welcomed a son. 

Then a year later she found out her brother in law and brother were mixed into something. Conflicted between the family who raised her and the family she was legally binded to. She used her degree and expertise to put one brother away and let one go. 

After she knew loyalty to the wrong family would result in death or a fate worse than death.

We were compelled to believe in all the possibilities the 'boomers and their hippieyuppie solipsism made impossible even with economic opportunity unless there was that rarefied Sweet Spot of wealth and parental care.

In a fundamental way, my generation never knew anything except schizophrenia- we were pilled, tortured, brutalized, made to believe the only value to be found was economic and always zero-sum; and all the while beaten into the praise-songs that held this as just and The Best in The World.

Well now the youth see it's BS with any kind of perspective: Competition brought us nothing but more monopoly and injustice; computerization is a dreaded instrument of isolation; education is a cruel joke. Civil society had its funeral before most even saw their first birthdays. There's nothing to mourn.

They're a world without inherited nostalgia like blood sin.

They're not going to walk away from society- society walked away from them.

And good.

It was a cold-comfort farce anyway.

I have optimism for the future if the educated youth stay idealistic, moral, and unafraid of conflict but measured in their willingness to accept it.
