Mold Dye, Gas Masks, Slime Mold, Puffball Mushrooms, and the Mold Jungle!

Gas Masks are a new head armor piece that comes in two variants: the basic kind, crafted with 3 leather, 2 charcoal, and a gold ingot - and the upgrade, which uses 2 amethyst, 2 copper, a basic gas mask and a diamond helmet. Both will protect you from the new Toxic Spores status effect - a very slow but persistent poison that occurs near Mold-like plants - as well as splash potions/lingering potions.

Slime Mold is a substance found creeping around large taigas and birch forests. It will wander around the landscape very slowly, and when bonemealed will spread. It can be used in place of Slimeballs in recipies.

Puffball mushrooms are a new type of mushroom, spawning in almost any biome in the right conditions. Chunks of it can be grilled in a furnace and turned into a Mushroom Burger. It will go through three phases - the first phase, the second phase (where it can be broken and eaten), and the third phase when it spores and becomes slightly toxic to be in close proximity of. There is also a large counterpart of all of these blocks, which will go through the same phases.

The Mold Jungle consists of a bunch of new fungi (including the Moldstalks, a bamboo-esque tall fungi, and Stinkhorns, whose young sprouting form is safe to eat) and new ground cover blocks including Substrate, Substrate Blocks, Mycelium Roots and Mycelium Blocks. Upon these will grow all sorts of fungi, including ones already shown in previous dye posts.

Galacta Knight headcanon rambles

BASICS

So, basically, there’s multiple Galacta Knights. This particular Galacta Knight is female and a sister to Meta Knight through knighthood, though the relationship does function like a proper familial relationship.

She’s got the same abilities as her game counterpart, with only one difference; she can change her species freely as a means of deeper understanding and communication.

She ends up taking up the tutelage over the mage sisters after a non-100% run of Star Allies, freeing them from Void’s influence herself (albeit with great difficulty).

She also takes up tutelage of other characters, like Ribbon, Adeline, and some Waddle Dees (because they the best 🥺).

She is an extremely extensive researcher regarding her/Meta/Kirby’s species and origins.

Add her to the list of Dark Matter victims. Just like Dedede, she can't catch a break from the bastard, though she has greater control and had broken free on her own a few times.

And just like Meta, she too isn't safe from the Dimension Mirror. She can hold her own against it…but that's it. It'll forever be a standstill between her and her corrupted reflection.

Might give my Galacta Knight a battleship and name it Galaxia, which might serve as inspiration for Meta commissioning the creation of the Halberd or the initial version of the Halberd itself before being rebuilt and overhauled by Meta's crew (aka the most badass looking warship I've seen. Fuck yeah).

She’s alone on Shiver Star, so she’s doing a LOT of studying and researching. She probably would try to stay on Shiver Star by her own choice.

She could probably help Kirby and co when they eventually travel to Shiver Star for the Crystal Shards, before joining them to Ripple Star.

After that, maybe she returns to Shiver Star in an attempt to make it inhabitable again...or maybe she travels between Popstar and Ripple Star.

APPEARANCE AND BIOLOGY

A few things about Galacta's humanoid form. Her hair would initially be pink, straight, and smooth, but as time went on, it became white, spiky, wild, and rough. Her eyes would remain the same color as canon Galacta's. Her armor and muscle definition would give the illusion that she's male to hide her identity.

About her horns real quick. I’m not sure if I should have them be a part of her helmet/mask or an actual part of her body (meaning that she’s got some kind of mutation or deformity going on).

Despite being made of three different souls, she doesn’t have a split consciousness…technically? She’s still a singular conscious made up of three individuals, but it’s…weird.

Each soul represents aspects of her, separate yet together. Thus, some aspects of her will be more prominent at times. As she’s able to transform into other species, her body is…technically not made of organic material.

Rather, it’s made of pure solidified energy that can take the shape and operate as organic matter. Of course, this is due to her unique creation.

Her shapeshifting ability is technically limitless and limited. She can technically morph however she wants, but she is limited by the fact that she has to maintain a body based on the species of the souls that make her.

For example, if she were in her humanoid form, she could give herself gun fingers, sword arms, weaponized wings, or even become a giant. But she would have to maintain a mostly humanoid shape.

She would also have to take the shape of things relative to her environment to support her. I.e.: She would have to shift her legs into water skis or propellers for water, ice skates or snow shoes for snowy climates, etc.

Also, as she was once a part of the Kirby/Meta Knight species, she does have an inhale ability (if the ability is not unique to Kirby only). It's kinda like how Dedede uses it.

ORIGINS

So, Star Allies has the Aeon Hero, Galacta Knight when he sealed away Void forever ago. For this, there is a trio named the Aeon Heroes (all female), tasked with sealing away Void.

A winged puffball was the fastest and capable of flight. A human was the physically strongest and most durable. And a member of whatever species the Mage Sisters are was exceptionally talented and skilled with magic.

Instead of sealing Void, however, they successfully convince it to reincarnate into Kirby. Though this takes a huge toll on them, to the point of near-fatality.

In order to save them, their souls are merged together, giving birth to a new warrior while their bodies are treated at alternate forms for her. She also becomes displaced from her initial time period in an effort to give her a peaceful life.

Thus, the warrior is left with little memories of who she once was, but maintains memories of their abilities, power, outside knowledge, and relationships.

Because of this…and the thought of everyone she cares about possibly being dead, she feels that she doesn't belong anywhere, which leads her ship to becoming her only home as she travels the cosmos.

She eventually comes upon Popstar, becoming its champion before the days of Kirby and even Meta Knight, one of her knightly "siblings". Thus, she's given a chance to have a better life as a hero.

However, dark forces takes notice of her, including her exploits. Zero makes it a personal mission to assimilate her, knowing that she is a potential threat to his cause. The Dimension Mirror, meanwhile, feels that this new knight needs to be corrupted and broken.

BOTH are unsuccessful, but the efforts are fruitful enough to make both forces CONTINUE their attempts, effectively making this warrior a VERY personal enemy.

These battles cost her a lot. She is forced to leave her home and travel to Shiver Star. Her ship is totaled and left on Popstar, while her weapons and armor are in disrepair.

And yet…she remains UNBREAKABLE. But she's definitely tired and becoming more drained after each battle.

REGARDING MORPHO KNIGHT

In regards to Morpho Knight, considering what it does (using it until we have a confirmed gender for this powerhouse), Morpho would likely take interest in Galacta just like it takes interest in Kirby. However, Morpho poses no ill will to Galacta Knight in Star Allies, instead granting him the peaceful rest he wants.

Morpho would likely be the same here, posing no ill will, but merely a test of Galacta's will to continue living, due to the fact that Zero and the Dimension Mirror are clearly out for her. Personally, I think it would change appearance based on the character, i.e.: It'd look more human if it absorbed Adeleine.

In THIS Galacta's case, Morpho would be able to switch between the three species that make up her soul. Considering it has only absorbed lifeforms, I don't think it can absorb non-living objects on their own. If it could, then this guy would probably go after the Halberd and assimilate it, thus becoming a titan.

BRIEF PERSONALITY

Among strangers, she is very professional. Calm. Collected. A "perfect solider". Though she can almost be cold at times, due to what she's experienced.

Among allies, she is kind and supportive. She offers a great deal of wisdom, while learning things herself. She is also very charismatic and courageous.

Among loved ones is where her real self comes forth. She is very loving and cheerful, but constantly struggles with her encounters with Zero and the Dimension Mirror.

Zero and the Dimension Mirror are the only ones who can truly get her to feel afraid and paranoid. Same with bringing up her...unique creation.

Some Kirby Copy Ability concepts!

In Smashed Together, the protags are all kids and they all have some form of Power Up that gives him adult forms. For Kirby, that manifests as different forms for each copy ability. Since in this AU, Meta Knight is the adult, parallel dimension version of Kirby, so Kirby's forms reflect his design including the mask/helmet, cape and pauldrons.

Cutter Kirby is based a lot on Sir Kibble's design. I think I will go back and tweak it to also reflect Kirby's cutter hat design, such as making his pauldrons resemble the little white wings.

Fire Kirby is based on a smelter's mask, and I imagine his cape is like a fireproof tarp.

Needle Kirby is based on the Togezo enemy and is the only design without a cape, so I may play with that more later. But the Togezo's helmet-like shell mandated that I must draw him in it! Fun cross-game trivie, in Japan, Togezo is the same name for the Spinies of Mario games!

Ice Kirby is just...Kirby as Mr. Freeze. Yeah, from Batman. Definitely redesigning that, but I had to do it.

Spark Kirby takes inspo from the Trident Knight enemy's armor! For a cape, statically charged fibers that make him look like a Super Saiyan! Thought it was a fun nod to Spark/Plasma having an ability to charge up an energy blast, y'know?

Bomb Kirby is basically Kirby in a Bomb Squad outfit, plus the Poppy Bros. cap. Most likely a redesign, but wanted to put something down so that I can post this!

Most if not all of these will see redesigns in the future, but it was a very fun exercise! \o/ Inspired by the Kirby fandom, who tend to have their own special Puffball Warrior designs! I love seeing all the different takes!

PS Kirby will have a kind of ultimate form that will look closer to Meta Knight's design, but with a Kirby-friendly flair.

The backs of these purple senate guards are identical to clone trooper backs (rectangular pack with two lines and a circle on it, cylinder in small of back) because mold reuse is the true king of design

This is legit How You Can Tell how much a series's sense of design leans towards the toyetic; characters designed around being able to share the same mold for major body parts. You also see this a lot in Kamen Rider and Super Sentai, where goons will tend to have a copied chestpiece with unique helmet.

Is this sword logo on the chairs Mandalore's? This ship doesn't look all that art deco, and it was being run by R2, and the senate guards were outside it

Survival Amongst the Stars - 6

Puffelbubs may sound cute and cuddly upon hearing a description of their fluffy gray appearance, but I swear that they’re actually demons in disguise. The one that bit me was awful enough; having a whole swarm of them raging throughout the ship was an absolute nightmare.

After we scrambled into protective suits to prevent any possible adverse affects of the planet’s atmosphere, we ran to the puffelbubs’ point of entry in the cargo room. I was mildly surprised to find them not attacking us like rabid dogs. Sure, the thirty or so creatures had chewed a human-sized hole in the ship’s metal exterior, but other than that they were just kind of . . . existing. Some of them hopped forward to explore the ship while others stayed back to gnaw on metal shards of what was once ship siding.

”We have to get them out of here!” Dr. Vega exclaimed. “They’re alien life forms, there’s no telling how many diseases they could give us!”

”Ok, then let’s just herd them out,” I said, attempting to be a calm voice of reason. I guided the others to block off the ones wandering into the ship and had us slowly drive them out, one step at a time. When they were reluctant to go, I suggested, “Let’s make some noise, try to scare

”Hey, fuzzballs!” They all looked up at Dionne. “Go on, shoo! Get out!” She clapped her hands and raised them above her head to make herself look bigger. Soon, the rest of us followed suit and started to try to drive them away.

Only, it didn’t seem to work. The living pom-poms just stared up at us, making eye contact to stare into our souls. A moment later, we were blindsided by a swarm of hundreds of puffelbubs pouring in through the hole in the ship. With shouts of surprise, we retreated back into the ship as the creatures scattered inside. Dr. Vega panicked and climbed onto some storage crates to escape the creatures. Dionne followed a group of them that were making a beeline for the bridge. Cosmo disappeared into the kitchen.

I was left standing alone as the rushing river of raging puffelbubs parted around me. Every few moments, one would jump towards me, teeth snapping in the air. I hit them back using wrench that someone had left on top of a crate or head butted them with my sturdy space suit helmet. Judging by the lack of new holes in my skin or suit, I was doing a pretty good job of fighting them back. More were coming, however, and it wouldn’t be long before I was forced to retreat to a crate like the doctor.

That was when Cosmo saved us.

He came back to the cargo room carrying a tray from the kitchen that held what could possibly have been all of our rations. He whistled and shouted at the puffelbubs before dropping the feast onto the ground. Smelling actual food, the creatures turned around and all headed for the single plate of food.

Full of food, the creatures ceased their rampage. After eating their fill, some of them left the ship. Others stuck around to give the place a sniff for more food scraps or take a nap on the cargo room floor. Finally, I could walk away from the spot I had been rooted to; the ship was no longer being invaded by alien life forms. They were all gathered in the one spot, thanks to Cosmo’s quick thinking.

”Thanks,” I said to him. “Good job, you saved us all.”

”Eh,” he shrugged. “You gave my the idea, with how the one took a bite out of you earlier. I figured they just might be hungry, what with the barren planet they live on looking like it doesn’t provide much in the way of food.”

”Smart boy,” Dr. Vega complimented.

”Say, where’d Dionne go?” Cosmo asked us. “She was here when I left.”

”Oh, she followed some to the bridge room!” I exclaimed, remembering the frantic look on her face. “We should go check on her, see how much damage those puffballs did.”
