this one shot in the ciconia op is so funny for a higurashi fan when you watch it for the first time

look at all these higurashis!

like ok, there’s okonogi. he’s in basically every ryukishi work so it’s just a thing now. okonogi is the constant across all universes, i’d be more surprised if he wasn’t in this story

and then there’s takano. thanks to higurashi gou i was vaguely aware of vier’s existence, although that was just her name and the fact that she looks like this. but it was when i actually stopped to look at her design that i realised just how much she is literally takano. at least other lookalikes have the decency to wear different clothing to their interdimensional counterparts, like bern clearly looking like rika but having a totally different outfit. vier has takano’s exact same pink shirt with the white collar and buttons

and more obviously the same green ribbon. the only difference is the lab coat instead of her jacket. of course her name being 34 in german as opposed to 34 in japanese is the cherry on top

last of all, jirou tomitake. toujirou mitake. shuffling his name around in peak ryukishi fashion

i simply can’t get over how the op shows us all these cool new characters and then all at once it’s Higurashi Time™️

#millie.txt #ciconia #higurashi #higurashi spoilers #ciconia spoilers #spoilers in the tags that is #i feel like in the same way that bern is not a total spoiler for higurashi but does give you hints that something's up with rika #vier is so funny because her death is very similar in nature to takano's #and uhh. there sure is something about that death that's a big higurashi spoiler #i don't think there's really anyone reading ciconia who hasn't read either higurashi or umineko #but if there is anyone i wonder if it's that obvious what vier's death says about takano's #is they went to read higurashi after #also hear me out. i think toujirou is like the bernkastel of ciconia #i remember hearing somewhere that ryukishi wanted readers to trust bern to some extent because she looks like rika #and that's how it felt to me #like in the early episodes she's obviously pretty sus #but i never would have guessed her truly sadistic nature when she always seems so emotionless at the start #and my attachment to rika definitely helped me keep thinking of her as a minimal threat #toujirou had a similar effect on me #not that i particularly care for tomitake but he was still a trustworthy person #i felt toujirou was clearly involved with something suspicious #but because he was tomitake i never would have guessed just how dangerous he was #and how he'd do something so fucked up at the end of phase 1 to his own son #i really should have made a new post for this but it's too late now
