thinking very hard about truck driver toji !
passing mention of sex but no actual nsfw content !
────────────────────────
lugging cargo across the country is no joke, with individual jobs spanning weeks at a time. fortunately, toji somehow ended up with you to keep him busy, his forever passenger princess.
a blurry picture of you two taken on a disposable camera hangs on the dash mirror. the shot is encased in a clear frame and strung up by beaded thread. you’re holding the camera towards the two of you, blowing a kiss towards the lense as toji stands with his arm slung around your shoulders. he’s smiling, a marlboro red pinched between his molars.
toji tries not to smoke in front of you most of the time, opting to pull over at a weigh-in station when his hands start to shake. he’ll kick the same pebble around while you stretch behind the truck, waving at the occasional biker.
it’s rare that men in his profession have anyone to spend the drive with, toji makes the most of it. the older man uses your little stowaway situation as an excuse to take you all across the country, picking up little keychains and stickers for you at every gas station the two of you visit. it’s hard to keep busy when all there is to do is pump gas and fuck, but you’re content with the little dynamic you have.
he’ll pull into a rest stop every time he starts feeling tired, dragging you into the driver’s side seat so he can cradle you in his arms like a little teddy bear. real sleep is done in the truck cab, under a weighted blanket he’d picked up at a strip mall in the mountains.
your “bedroom”, or the truck cab really, is a modest little room behind where the driver’s compartment is. toji tore out the twin sized mattress 2 weeks into your little arrangement, replacing it with a queen sized memory foam one. “a good investment” he called it.
you two rarely if ever sleep in there though. opting for the comfort of a hotel room over the glorified backseat of a sleeping arrangement his truck has. toji can afford it, that much is obvious from how much he spends on room service per week. the man had taught you that a truck driver’s salary was more than enough to keep a girl happy, and with how much you two had been on the road, he was easily reaching the 6-figure mark.
most people would get sick of being forced to spend so much quality time with each other. you never will.
you’ll never get tired of waking up in a different place every morning, spending hours exploring new cities with your favorite boy. you’ll never get tired the way you learn something new about him everyday. a new detail about the family he grew up with, a beauty mark you never noticed on his back, the way his nose scrunches when you say something funny.
you’ll never get tired of the way he stalks up to you after every other rest stop visit, hands clasped behind his back as he prepares to surprise you with whatever trinket he just bought you. and you’ll never regret your decision to be his permanent little sidekick, experiencing every day right alongside him.
────────────────────────
a/n: hii ! i rly rly love this au hehe, i might even like it more than prisoner toji. lmk if this should be a series, and feel free to send in related asks if u want :D

i've found myself in a bad situation. the tl;dr is i have to move, but i can't afford to. i'm a disabled student and just do not have the funds required to rent a truck, hire movers, and cover deposits. so, i'm offering various services on my kofi, but if you don't need those you can also donate there or via paypal. my cashapp and venmo are both erinshelley91 if you'd like to donate on those platforms (i couldn't figure out how to link to those)
if you can't afford to commission me or to donate, reblogging this post and sharing my twitter thread is a free way to help me out and is so appreciated!
more context and stuff under the cut, i just don't want to make a long post on ppl's dashboards
my landlord has been cheating on his husband, and their relationship is rocky. he also has a massive spending addiction according to his husband. his spending addiction is making him not want to perform the actual duties of a landlord, because investment costs are cutting into his shopping spree funds
ex, he is illegally not fixing a leak in the shower of the upstairs tenants, and claims the costs are more than their rent. he told them to "figure it out, or get the fuck out." (verbatim.) he also told me it would be cheaper for him to not have tenants at all bc his utility bills would be smaller. he then left it to ME to inform another tenant to leave (then gaslit me and denied it in front of his husband when his husband questioned it)
in his words, we have 90 days to leave. i am disabled and a full time student and have been living on my fafsa returns, and the last job i had made one of my disabilities worse to the point i've had intensive physical therapy (several hours several times a week) and am likely going to have to undergo surgery
i'm also mi/nd, so even on a good day i'm not very well equipped to handle things, and the recent stress has also caused my therapist to see me several times a week in lieu of institutionalization
all that said, i'm not in a good spot physically or mentally, hence the best i can do right now is offer some of my skills on kofi
i'm currently working with my state's vocational rehab to try and find a suitable job until i can get my degree, but even then i simply would not be able to afford the costs of a sudden move in the timeframe i've got to work with
UPDATE MARCH 25, 2024: i want to invest in a scooter to do gig work like doordash. this will let me work at my own pace, and earn towards the move myself, then i'll have some more independence to continue doing that after as well
they require 50cc or under, which means i could get a scooter for under $1,000. i'd also need to cover fees to renew my license (i let it lapse since i haven't had a vehicle), get a helmet, and get insurance (roughly $100 annually)
i also made some amazon wishlists for folks who would like to help but prefer to know exactly where their money's going. i have one for housewarming stuff here, and one for necessities here
update as of april 5: my cat peed on my bed, and since it's a memory foam mattress it soaked all the way through and ruined it
update as of april 7: she did it again. this time there's blood in it
update as of april 14: i still haven't been able to take her to the vet, but i've been trying to do at home remedies

Congrats on the new mattress! Would you be willing to share the brand for a fellow Old who also has an unkind bed?
Aha, it's this one:
They have three different styles (basic, premier, and Premium TM), and because I had a bit of spare income from the Exam Grading Marathon (this was indeed my primary motivation for doing it this year), I splurged and got the top-of-the-line Premium version, which is the link above. This is also an ideal time for doing so if you are so tempted and/or have a little cash on hand, because they are still running the 4th of July sale wherein all the mattresses are half off. As such, I got a luxury mattress normally priced at $2.4k for like, $1.3k including tax (shipping was free, which was nice). The lower tiers also start at around $600, which is pretty reasonable for a mattress tbh. But if you can afford to have a bit of a splurge, then I feel like a mattress is something worth paying more for if you can. So yes.
There is a bit of leeriness involved in buying a mattress online when you haven't had the chance to test-drive it in a showroom, but I will say that I also briefly had the same concern (i.e. whether it would work if I hadn't been able to test it in-person beforehand) and mine is REALLY nice. I am a tall person with back pain, and that sucker is so comfortable. It is really thick and cushy on top, but it also has good support, and it does feel like a cloud. I got a full, which is SO big and thick that I will probably have to order queen-sized bedding at least, because the full-sized sheets barely fit. I got the hybrid (springs + memory foam) version, since I am someone who needs that lumbar support, baby, and as a stomach and/or back sleeper, it was super comfy for me in both positions.
The mattress is hefty (95 pounds...) though they manage to vacuum-pack and roll that sumbitch up real tight for shipping, and if you might need help hauling it around or moving it up stairs etc, that is something to consider. Fortunately, my apartment is on the first floor so I could mostly haul it around myself, but it was still a workout getting it on the frame. As noted, I would probably order sheets a size up from whatever mattress size you end up getting, because it's Chunky. But thus far, I am extremely pleased and look forward to doing more extensive quality testing this weekend. Ahem.

teen me did not think i would live to see the age of 36. more than that, she didn't particularly want to.
that kid had been ground and beat down enough and boxed in by her present she couldn't conceive of a future at all, much less a good one, and so figured none was best.
i bought a mattress today.
my current one is only 5 years old, but it was bought floor-model clearance and started sagging to one side within 2 years (don't do memory-foam only, friends.) i've suffered on that damn thing for three years after that, and i wake up every day in pain.
but today i bought a new mattress. because i needed one, and because i could. because i'm finally in the kind of financial situation where i can afford to do that with a tax refund.
i am 36 and i have a good job with people i like, good benefits and the best pay i've ever had, i live in a nice apartment in an area i love with my best friend and our cat. and i can afford to do things like get treats from the bakery on the weekends and, because suffering every night is awful, buy a new mattress when i need one.
that teenager couldn't have seen this as possible. not through well into my 20s either. she had no clue this was coming, that here was where she'd be at the age of 36.
five years ago when i bought the previous mattress, it was a financially fraught and precarious move, living still with my best friend and our cat, but in a miserably shitty apartment in a place we hated, making barely enough to pay bills each month. five years ago me had a vague, maybe slightly dim hope that someday things could get to the sort of place i'm in now, but she didn't know either.
and neither do you. you have no idea how good your life might be in five, ten, fifteen years. how content you may be, how happy. even if you can't imagine good as a future possibility for you. you don't know.
the only way to know is to stick around and find out.
to take every small comfort, tiny joy, and little contentment in your now as another anchor, to build the life you want, or that's better than the day before, tiny step by tinier piece, every little improvement you can grab onto and keep.
it doesn't just happen. the road to good will contain probably a lot of suck, and even when you reach good, there's no such thing as perfect. you do have to make efforts, and hope for some luck, and accept help from the people who love you.
but the first, most important foundational thing you must do to reach those good days ahead is to stick around and find out.

Try before you buy used to be the finest advice anyone could give you when purchasing a mattress, but times have changed. It's not always true that the mattress that feels greatest to you when you try it out for a few minutes in a showroom will feel the same when you get it home. After all, a well-used mattress that you test out in a store would probably show more signs of wear and tear than a brand-new mattress that is brought to your house.
Which types of mattress are best springs or foam?
In general, mattresses can be categorized as having springs or not. The latter, typically composed of foam, have grown to be highly well-liked recently. Memory foam is excellent at absorbing movement and cushioning bony protrusions, although it frequently feels warmer than a sprung mattress and can become softer as the bed warms up.
The greatest mattresses offer plenty of support and padding whether you choose foam, springs, or a combination of the two, so your decision will ultimately come down to personal preference.

You've probably seen television commercials for bed-in-a-box mattresses, which are growing in popularity. Instead of being delivered as a fully formed mattress, these all-foam or hybrid choices come vacuum-packed and coiled up super king size mattresses in a box. They become much simpler to deliver and manoeuvre as a result. After being unpacked, they immediately start to expand, and after a few hours, they are prepared for use as beds.
What should I budget?
The options are practically endless in terms of price, but as our collection demonstrates, a high-quality product need not be extremely expensive. Affordable foam mattresses begin at a fraction of the cost of a good, traditional pocket-sprung mattress while yet providing outstanding levels of comfort and support. However, resist the urge to base your decision on pricing alone because you would be wasting your money if the mattress didn't fit your specific size, shape, and sleeping preferences.
Mattress Thickness Determinants
The thickness of each layer inside a mattress determines its depth. The majority of mattresses have two layers inside, however premium mattresses can have three, four, or more. Different materials are present in each layer. Your mattress's comfort, support, and durability are impacted by these materials. The comfort layer and the base layer are the two fundamental mattress layers.
When Selecting a Mattress Thickness
If you want one of the most robust mattresses that remains pleasant for years, it needs to be at least 8 inches thick, with a base layer that is at least 5 to 6 inches thick, a comfort layer that is at least 2 to 3 inches thick, and several layers in between. Generally speaking, the thickness of a mattress makes it feel softer. In this part, we cover the considerations you should keep in mind while deciding on the thickness of your mattress.

Latex: Naturally hypoallergenic, these mattresses provide a responsive, slightly bouncy feel and are a great choice for people with allergies.

How to make the best mattress choice for you
Try before you buy used to be the finest advice anyone could give you when purchasing a mattress, but times have changed. It's not always true that the mattress that feels greatest to you when you try it out for a few minutes in a showroom will feel the same when you get it home. After all, a well-used mattress that read more here you test out in a store would probably show more signs of wear and tear than a brand-new mattress that is brought to your house.
What is a mattress that comes in a box?
Which mattress is best for back pain?
There is no one-size-fits-all mattress, thus no one mattress type is superior to the others when it comes to reducing back discomfort. In truth, a lot of factors, such as the cause of your back discomfort and your weight, affect which mattress is ideal for you.

How to Choose the Perfect Futon Double Bed for Your Home
Choosing the perfect futon double bed for your home involves more than just picking the first one you see. It requires considering various factors to ensure you find the best fit for your needs, style, and space. Whether you’re looking to optimize a small living area or seeking a versatile piece of furniture that serves dual purposes, here are some key aspects to consider.
Understanding Your Space
First and foremost, measure the space where you plan to place the futon double bed. Take into account both its bed and sofa positions. Ensure there’s ample room for the futon to fold out fully without obstructing other furniture or walkways. In smaller spaces, like studio apartments or guest rooms, a futon double bed can be a lifesaver, offering a comfortable seating option by day and a cozy bed by night.
Assessing Comfort
Comfort is crucial when choosing a futon double bed. Look for high-quality mattresses that provide adequate support. Memory foam or innerspring mattresses are excellent choices as they offer superior comfort and durability. Remember, the futon will serve both as a sofa and a bed, so it needs to be comfortable in both forms. If possible, test the futon in-store to ensure it meets your comfort standards.
Evaluating the Frame
The frame is the foundation of your futon double bed, so its quality is paramount. Futon frames come in various materials, including wood, metal, and a combination of both. Wooden frames tend to offer a more classic and warm aesthetic, fitting well with traditional or rustic decor. Metal frames, on the other hand, can give a modern, sleek look. Ensure the frame is sturdy and well-constructed to withstand regular use.
Tumblr media
Considering Style and Aesthetics
Your futon double bed should complement your home’s decor. Whether your style is modern, contemporary, minimalist, or eclectic, there’s a futon design to match. Pay attention to the color, texture, and design of the futon cover. Many futon beds come with removable and washable covers, making it easier to maintain and change up your style as needed. Neutral colors like grey, beige, or navy are versatile and can blend seamlessly with various color schemes.
Checking for Versatility
One of the main advantages of a futon double bed is its versatility. Ensure the futon can easily convert from a sofa to a bed and vice versa. Check the mechanism – it should be smooth and easy to operate without requiring excessive effort. Additionally, consider the futon’s functionality beyond seating and sleeping. Some futons come with additional features like storage compartments, which can be incredibly useful in small living spaces.
Budget Considerations
Budget is always a significant factor. Futon double beds come in a wide range of prices, so it’s essential to find one that fits your budget while still meeting your quality and comfort needs. Higher-priced futons often offer better materials and construction, which can be a worthy investment for long-term use. However, there are also many affordable options that provide good value for money. Compare different models and prices, and look for sales or discounts to get the best deal.
Reading Reviews and Ratings
Before making a final decision, read customer reviews and ratings. Feedback from other buyers can provide valuable insights into the futon’s comfort, durability, and ease of use. Pay attention to comments about the assembly process, as some futons may require more time and effort to set up than others. Additionally, reviews can highlight any potential issues or concerns that might not be evident from product descriptions alone.
Personal Preferences
Ultimately, the perfect futon double bed is one that aligns with your personal preferences. Consider how you will use the futon most often. If it’s primarily for seating, focus more on sofa comfort and aesthetics. If it’s mainly for sleeping, prioritize mattress quality. Think about who will be using the futon – if it’s for guests, consider a design that’s easy to convert and accommodates various sleeping preferences.
Choosing the perfect futon double bed for your home involves balancing comfort, style, functionality, and budget. By carefully considering these factors, you can find a futon that not only meets your practical needs but also enhances your home’s decor. Whether you’re furnishing a small apartment or looking for a versatile piece for your guest room, a well-chosen futon double bed can provide both comfort and convenience. Take your time, do your research, and you’ll be sure to find the ideal futon double bed for your home.
