re your recent tags: I had never heard of vanilla sky so I just read the plot synopsis on wiki and WHAT THE HELL that sounds completely wild! is it worth watching? I'm intrigued now. but I also rly wanna know what kinda au you would do for cobra kai? would it be lawrusso? damiko? who plays tech support? you really piqued my curiosity with this one haha

So, re: watching it, this was one of my favorite films as a teen, I watched it with my gf over and over, the scene where he's desperately screaming at the sky shouting for tech support was very formative and it gave me a crush on Penelope Cruz. that said I haven't watched it in a long time so idk if it holds up, but if you're into sci-fi and mind bending films, I think it's definitely worth watching. It also has one of my all time favorite soundtracks. It's actually based off another superior film called Abre los Ojos but y'know, the first love.

Re: an AU - Johnny is much more sympathetic than Aames, but he'd be the main character, the rich son and heir of Sid's media empire. They'd be in their 20s, equivalent to a 90s AU except obviously it's further in the future in terms of technology. The events of the karate kid films happened, Johnny still hates Sid but he didn't go to college and Laura insisted Sid get him in at their company. He's in his party and playboy phase but still mega emotionally stunted. Honestly I kind of want to make Julie, his longtime friend with benefits, Dutch. She's a pretty tragic & sympathetic figure with an edge of danger.

So basically: Johnny's at one of Sid's Hollywood parties hanging out with Dutch and Jimmy who ended up working as an accountant for Sid's company. Jimmy brought Daniel as a date after reconnecting at his garage (sorry I will never stop bringing up grease monkey Daniel), but before he can say anything Johnny spots Daniel as Sofia, for the first time since '84. They're immediately back to their high school intensity but this time it's charged and they know more who they are and so they have an extremely intense conversation that turns suddenly very genuinely vulnerable and intimate and there's Feelings. Dutch watches them & then he has the argument driving Johnny home the next day over their relationship. Dutch guns it and they get in the car accident that kills him and disfigures Johnny. I don't think Johnny would be as affected by losing his looks, but I think he'd be more affected by the loss of Dutch & what that represents in terms of losing connections to how he once understood himself and it would send him into a grief spiral.

He wears the porcelain mask (~symbolism) and meets up with Jimmy and Daniel for dinner, shows up drunk and gets wasted, and gets into a huge fight with them, says horrible things, accuses Daniel of sleeping with Jimmy for the money and finally uses what he told him in their private conversation (maybe the kk3 stuff) against him as they're trying to walk him home bc he's trying to push everyone away. He passes out on the street and wakes up to Daniel knocking on the door apologizing for leaving him, and for everything that led to the AVT and for not seeing how these losses affected him. They get together and Jimmy apologizes too and is still friends with him, and Sid has died and passed the company to him and they're able to surgically fix his face. I would actually make some changes to the next parts - every so often things feel off, he's hit with waves of guilt. He waits one out in a bar where he runs into Kreese who reminds him of how powerful he is and shows him how he can have control of the world. When he's in bed with Daniel that night, Daniel suddenly turns into a laughing Kreese, and Johnny is terrified and strangles him to death. He's arrested for murdering Daniel and then as his life spirals out of control, Kreese shows up again as Tech Support (Johnny subconsciously made him the mental projection of it) and tries to convince him they've fixed the glitch in the cryonic system that was letting his old life slip through, and that Johnny should let himself have this life where he's in control of it all, but he refuses, chooses to jump back into his own life and face it head on, actually build the relationships and happiness he's realized are possible, realized what he needs and what he doesn't.
