Maybe I have far too much time on my hands but honestly what is going on with Merc? From the disastrous sponsorships recently, to letting some key staff go to Red Bull, to some of Toto's bizarre comments. I do wonder, and think that once the core championship winning team leave, they will suffer a lot. (They've suffered this year without James Allison) There doesn't seem to be a lot of future proofing going on, Red Bull seem to be really concentrating on it and this will be to Mercedes detriment.
I think Merc has clearly made a few mistakes both on and off track, and I think to some extent the advantage they had built up covered up some of their weaknesses and so they’re more noticeable now.
I don’t think people moving to RBR is especially odd, it’s a relatively small talent pool within F1 so they’re all going to be hiring from one team to another constantly and half of them don’t even get reported on!
I think the budget cap has obviously had an effect on them. They can’t just spend freely to fix their problems, but the stuff like the sponsors is really weird for them. I’m guessing they charge one of the highest amounts for sponsors, but you’d think that would attract bigger names but it’s seemingly having the opposite effect? F1 sponsorship is in shambles across the board to be totally honest (I reckon only Williams has signed up any brands I’ve actually heard of this year?) You’d think after Rich Energy, the teams would be being more careful but instead everyone’s been signing up crypto firms and less known start ups and tech companies, which feels like it could all go wrong?
