Saw these tags in response to this post and it made me chuckle a bit as someone who’s only personality trait at the moment is being autistic as fuck about both these bands

Nicky Wire definitely has had unwarranted beef with many bands/musicians over the years (it’s a part of his charm to me - go off with your silly little opinions king), but surprisingly My Chem have never been one of those bands! Dare I say they’re probably one of the only bands I can think of that he’s claimed to at least RESPECT right out of the gate. That’s a rare feat to achieve considering this is a man who’s historically had a reputation for hating everyone!

This is just one example of something he’s said about MCR, he considers them to be somewhat carrying the torch of what the manics (particularly Richey) were doing when they started! Being a band with the desire to turn as many heads as possible, make larger than life statements/tell interesting stories with their art, and encourage people to change the world. In a shorter summary, Nicky Wire was embracing this comparison years before I think any of us were drawing these parallels to begin with.

I feel like he’s also said something along the lines of considering The Black Parade one of the best recent rock records he’s heard but I can’t find that interview for the life of me, I’m gonna have to get one of my manics mutuals who’s quite the archivist to dig that up at some point.

(I don’t know personally what James and Sean think about MCR cause there’s been no documentation of their personal opinions on the matter and they’ve always preferred to let Nicky talk for them, but I feel in my heart that James and Ray would get along for some reason. That’s just me projecting though!)

My favourite thing about all of this though is that the respect between MCR and the manics is mutual. Gerard and Mikey have been citing them as an influence for a long time! I can’t be assed to dig for interview clips of them talking about the manics, but this Gerard tweet (nickyposting on MAIN- they’re just like me fr) and this pic of Mikey wearing a Lifeblood t-shirt should say everything that needs to be said (side note: Mikey is so real for being a Lifeblood enjoyer, Lifeblood haters DNI that album is in my top 3 manics albums)

(TLDR) there is no evidence whatsoever of MSP looking down on MCR, there is however evidence of the opposite, and even more evidence of the love being mutual! These bands are cousins/contemporaries and they like each-other :) I think they should tour together at some point even though it would probably make my brain explode.
