Gooseverse take 2: The Warden is a shapeshifter mage who knows how to be a goose and taught all their mage companions the goose form while teaching all their rogue companions to be rangers with goose familiars. Hawke is a ranger rogue with a goose familiar who passes on their knowledge to rogue companions while Anders teaches the other mage companions the goose form. (Bethany later teaches other Circle mages shapeshifting in secret, eventually resulting in a flock of escaping geese.) By Act 3, Meredith is so convinced that the local goose population is being controlled by blood mages that all it takes is a well-timed honk before the explosion for her to declare annulment. Geese are now a symbol of rebellion and a popular alternate form for rebel mages.

To everyone’s surprise, however, the one who survived the explosion of the temple with the Anchor on its left wing is none other than the Horrible Goose itself. Not a shapeshifter, not a familiar, but an actual, run-of-the-mill Anser caerulescens.
