Why I think deltarune will ultimately fail narrative wise; (hear me out here I’m not talking about the game itself or toby I’m referring to the writing and the story)
Part of the reason undertale was so widely successful and amazing was because it came out of nowhere, it was new, no one had any expectations when going into it, so when Toby turned out to be the amazing game creator and writer he is- it shocked the world, and continued to shock the world as no one had ever seen or experienced anything like undertale up till that point, and never will.
but with deltarune, everyone already knows what Toby is capable of- they’ve seen undertale, they know Toby’s style of writing, and they’ve had years to speculate and theorise, thousands of people trying to uncover the lore of deltarune, before it’s even officially released.
What this does is it creates a massive expectation for Toby and his team, and the entire game. A expectation that physically can’t be met.
no matter what they do with deltarune, the community won’t be satisfied, as there’s no element of surprise anymore. The sheer amount of theories and deltarune fans speculating along with undertale fans and the other games reputation makes an impossible task for Toby and his team, and an even more impossible task for the community on the final release of deltarune.
it’s definitely going to be and is an amazing game, but it’s going to ultimately be somewhat predicted or spoiled regardless of what happens. Due to all the people hunting for every little clue they can find
I don’t think it’s physically possible for Toby to surprise us at this point, which is really sad when you think about it.
toby has a shadow over him thanks to undertales success, which is amazing- because the game is amazing and he’s met so many amazing people. And there are so many amazing people in the fandom- but no one can deny the impact this has made on deltarune.
it’s kinda overshadowed by undertale. And I worry it won’t live up to expectations due to the pressure we’ve put the team under to deliver the best game ever.
I just worry that the very thing that makes the ut and deltarune community so alive and great is also going to be its downfall.
with so many theories. It’s only a matter of time before someone accidentally guesses the entire plot of the game. Ruining it for everyone
