I think that it's really sad how lesbians really have no role models in Hollywood or in the music industry to look up to, it's even worse because like I said before every since the entire gay community was labeled as queer straight people have starting opting into our community. I think that the reason why everything is so fucked up is because straight women started calling themselves bi, and bi women realized this and started calling themselves lesbians to overcompensate for the attraction that straight women in their communities had erased. Which is why so many famous "lesbians" are actually bi (chapel ranch, renee rapp, kehlani) and it doesn't help that they're spreading this harmful rhetoric of being lesbian "now" as if they decided to dedicate the first half of their career to men they dated for years or get pregnant by a man and *then* decide to become a lesbian, and parading these facts about publically only further making it seem like lesbians have to fight our non-existant attraction to men or are only lesbians because we don't want to date men. Pretty much all the famous out gay women are bi. If you had told middle school me that so many women were publically talking about their attraction to other women, I would've been overjoyed, but as I said earlier, not only are most of them bi but they spread harm to lesbians. The last popular lesbian celebrity I know is Haley Kiyoko and people always made fun of her when at the time, and even now she's basically the only out lesbian in the industry. And it's clear that the only reason why she gets made fun of is because she is kind of a GNC lesbian.

I wrote up a whole answer going into Ripley's relationship to her gender but then it got rly long and it felt more like it'd fit better into its own post so HBVFBDV
I think Ripley largely views her gender nonconformity as like mainly her outward appearance and how she presents, like even tho she has 'manly' interests like sports, cars + motorcycles (and tinkering) she doesn't really view them like that I guess? I think for a big part it's been really good for Ripley that her mom always encouraged her to express herself however she wants to and told her there's no right or wrong way to be a woman. I think it also helps that her mom's a lesbian and her whole friend group mainly consists of other queer people (including butch women and trans people) and a lot of those people also helped raise Ripley and shaped her as a person. Her late grandma was less understanding of her, I'll go more into it another time, but that honestly bothered her more than the bullies because they otherwise had a good relationship and Ripley cared about her opinion.
I think in a way she's reclaiming womanhood for herself because of how she's been treated by others. Like people implying shes basically a dude and stuff. I think her bullies (and her grandma too) would also just often imply she was unhygienic for being hairy and I think that's especially what stuck with her. Like she won't change herself but the idea that other people might think she's unhygienic just because she doesn't shave or wear make-up etc. really bothers her especially. But also just makes her so mad like hello if a guy doesn't shave no one bats an eye either!!
I think theres some stuff shes just not super educated on or something and where it'd probably be so good for her to meet ppl like Evie who have a different perspective on some things I guess? Like the bottom dysphoria for example, I think Ripley has like a mild form of that and once she figures out she's bi instead of a lesbian she starts approaching it more as a Problem bc she thinks men will just expect certain things from women. And just unnecessarily stresses herself out about that so much for a while.
I think one Thing with Ripley is definitely how she only ever dresses hyper fem when it's basically a costume or an act. And I think there are some complicated feelings she has surrounding that like she feels more like a man in a dress than a woman conforming to what's expected of her anyway. And when it's not an act she's more hesitant to even do it because it's just so unusual for her I guess? Even if she does feel drawn to it from time to time. I do think she also partly feels that way because of people implying thats something she Should do and not wanting to give them that satisfaction or something? Especially because some people act like beibg gnc is just some phase women go through and eventually they'll 'grow up' and 'embrace' femininity.
IDK if I mentioned before but I feel like an Evie/Ripley friendship would definitely be canon
Yeees!!
I always imagine Ripley is at ease/lets her walls down more easily with other gnc people, because her own gender nonconformity has been one of the things she'd get bullied for in the past. So she often sorta assumes people do judge her for it to some degree, unless they are similar to her.
+ in general would like more friends like that.
+ I remember when I looked at Evie's profile that they had a lot of likes and dislikes that align and just like stuff they have in common!
