Hi! I'm a biologist and I want to correct a couple of these for the safety of Those On The Internet! Please note I am not a doctor, I am not your doctor, and if you need more information, please message or call your doctor and ask for help. If it is an emergency, call your local emergency services.
Ice/ziploc bag: Ice can and often does bring down swelling and inflammation, which often causes more pain in an area. Swelling and inflammation can press on nerves, making them more painful, or cause the skin and tissue to stretch in a way that hurts, and over time this can make healing slower or more difficult. (WebMD source for instructions) TLDR: Ice does help healing!
InstaPot: you probably cannot achieve "sterility" at home, because sterility indicates that there are No Microbes on your implements (PLEASE do not try to sterilize fabric, gauze, or wound dressings at home. Even hospitals don't do that in their fancy autoclaves. If it is used or visibly dirty, throw it away.) Sterility requires that the implements 1) reach a certain pressure 2) reach a certain temperature 3) keep both of those for a certain amount of time. The numbers I learned are 15PSI at 121°C for 30 minutes, but they vary based on specific machine and specific item (CDC source). From what I can find, InstaPot doesn't reach those numbers, and ten minutes is not enough. DO NOT attempt surgery at home. The tips below are for things like "my doctor said I could use clean scissors to cut my stitches". If you need something clean for home use and it's visibly dirty, scrub it with soap and hot water and dry it with clean disposable towels. You can toss it in the IP if you want, but you might see better results from wiping it down with rubbing alcohol. From what I can find, IP was tested along with other pressure cookers for use as a sterilizer. The GoWise pressure cooker capped out at 13PSI, which is less pressure than generally indicated for sterilization. You can read that paper and decide if you want to use it as a guideline for home sterilization, but it will need more than ten minutes. TLDR: If it's dirty, scrub with hot soapy water and dry with clean disposable towels. You probably don't have the resources to sterilize at home.
tips from this list that sound right (but I'm not a medical professional):
entire head of lettuce
rice sock
electrolyte drink
fresh coffee grounds
tips from this list YOU SHOULD CHECK NOW (hopefully with your doctor/medical professional) BEFORE TRYING IN CASE OF EMERGENCY:
severe hot chocolate
sucking chest wound
suggestion for post topic: list of improvised first aid/medical supplies & uses from things commonly found in a kitchen
The following is, as usual, not medical advice:
What I like to call "Severe" Hot Chocolate: Do you have asthma? COPD? Don't have your inhaler with you? Severe Hot Chocolate might help! In a sauce pan over low heat, combine 1Tb sugar and 3Tb unsweetened cocoa powder with a little water. Once its combined into a sludge, add a cup of milk or milk substitute of choice and stir to combine and heat. Then drink. It will be bitter, but not too bad if you like dark chocolate.
An Entire Head of Lettuce: Need to poop? Wanna do it tomorrow morning? Eat an entire head of iceburg lettuce in one go (with or without dressing).
Lite Salt: Need electrolyte replacement or a cheap sports drink? Dissolve 1/2tsp Lite Salt (half sodium chloride and half potassium chloride) in 2 cups of lemonade or other flavored drink. Sugar actually helps with the absorption of the electrolytes, but if you need a no sugar drink you can do that too.
Plastic Wrap: Stabbed in the chest? Unfortunate. Get a piece of plastic wrap to put over the wound and tape it down snugly. The sucking chest wound will still be there but it will buy time to get to a hospital.
Ice/ziploc bags: While ice doesn't help things heal, it sure makes them feel better. Put some ice in a bag and wrap that bag in a towel and put that on your musculoskeletal injury for pain relief.
Instant Pot: Need to sterilize something made of metal? Don't want to use a chemical? Put it on a shelf in your pressure cooker and add some water to the bottom. 10 mins on high pressure should do it.
Rice (in a sock): Fill a sock with dry white rice. Microwave it for a minute or so. Use it for cramps or back pain.
Fresh Coffee Grounds: This isn't so much a medical thing (though it is frequently used in hospitals) as it is a good-to-know. Coffee grounds absorb biological odors. Just put a little bowl of them in a room with a poop or BO-type smell and it will absorb it.
#this post brought to you by the study sessions in the hall before/after my micro labs#and chanting 15/30/121 with my classmates every time#and standing in the MLT lab and watching the agar plates fill#with a tech who was super satisfied and pleased they now had a plate filler to go with their autoclave#the ice thing is here also because it Does help and people should know this#sometimes ice can be a bad idea but ideally if it is you already know that about yourself and your body#or your particular long-term injury that responds better to heat#but the RICE method for swelling is tried and true and the main goal is to reduce swelling to prevent injury#not a doctor but: you should also consider nonsteroidal ANTI INFLAMMATORIES with your rice#again based on your personal health status/what you're allergic to/etc#not in the post proper because I am NOT prescribing drugs to strangers on the internet. even otc.#comments#ok that's enough goodbye

How to reduce breast pain before periods?
How to reduce breast pain before periods?
Are you looking for a solution to reduce breast pain before periods? You are at the right place.
Let us dig in! But first, it's a good idea to understand the underlying causes of this problem.
Causes of breast tenderness before periods
Sore breasts are a common symptom during a menstrual cycle which is caused mainly due to a decline in estrogen and progesterone levels just before menstruation. Some women may experience premenstrual breast pain or tenderness due to hormonal changes that affect the breast tissue. Such changes may also cause swelling of the lymph nodes, which can further increase breast pain.
However, there are also other factors besides hormones which can contribute to sore breasts before periods. Many women only have breast pain in one of their breasts before their periods. Some doctors believe that if hormones were the main reason, both breasts would respond the same way. As a result, it's possible that other bodily changes can cause breast pain around menstruation time.
You can try to reduce breast pain during periods with these home remedies:
Use heating pads or ice packs to provide warm or cold therapy.
Wear a bra to support your breasts while you sleep.
Reduce salt consumption which reduces water retention in our bodies.
Minimise caffeine intake in your diet by avoiding coffee, soda, energy drinks and tea.
Include vitamin E and vitamin B-6 supplements in your diet.
Do low-impact exercises.
Select nutrient-rich foods like peanuts, brown rice, avocados, bananas, etc.
Medical treatments to reduce breast pain:
Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as paracetamol, ibuprofen, and naproxen sodium, which are available over the counter, can successfully relieve premenstrual breast pain. The cramping linked with PMS can also alleviate by taking these medications. Your doctor might occasionally prescribe them to you.
If your breast pain is due to periods, birth control pills can reduce the hormonal imbalance in the body.
If the pain is severe, a doctor will prescribe other hormonal pills like Danazol, used to treat the symptoms of endometriosis and fibrotic breast disease.
Home remedies are frequently successful in alleviating premenstrual breast soreness and swelling, while medications may also be used if necessary. If lifestyle changes and medication suggested by your doctor do not help you feel better, consider talking to your doctor. Talk to your doctor before taking any of the medicines listed above, as they may also have side effects.
When to see a doctor?
If you have any sudden or concerning breast changes, you should discuss them with your doctor. Although breast pain before periods and swelling are not always harmful, sometimes these signs and symptoms could indicate an infection or other medical conditions. If you experience any of the following symptoms, contact your doctor:
If there are any new or changing breast lumps
If you see discharge from the nipple, especially if it is brown or bloody
If you are experiencing breast pain that interferes with your ability to sleep or do regular activities
If you have any unilateral lumps or lumps that only appear in one breast

Learn about different types of pain treatment
Below are some ways to deal with pain
RICE technique
Over-the-counter pain killers
Medications with a prescription
Other methods for pain management
RICE technique
After determining whether or not to have an infusion, you should treat acute pain by means of the acronym RICE: rest (rest), ice (ice), compression (compression) and elevation (elevation).
Rest: Avoid using the affected body part for 24 to 48 hours. If you suspect a hemorrhage, you can also use a splint on the joint to limit your movement.
Ice: Apply ice to the affected area. Ice tightens blood vessels and helps reduce pain and inflammation.
Compression: Use elastic bandages on the affected area. The compression serves to reduce the pain and prevent the bleeding from continuing.
Elevation: Keep the affected body part elevated. Elevation reduces inflammation.
Over-the-counter pain killers for new jersey chronic pain treatment
You can also consider using over-the-counter (OTC) or prescription medications to reduce acute pain. Since many painkillers can be harmful to people with bleeding disorders, you should be careful with what you use. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) (eg, aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen) can interfere with clotting by affecting the functioning of platelets. Some people with hemophilia can take ibuprofen or naproxen without increasing their bleeding, but this should be done under the supervision of their nj arthritis doctor. Some people use celecoxib, which is a type of prescription NSAID called a COX-2 inhibitor, which does not affect the function of platelets. There are some concerns related to the use of celecoxib because similar medications are associated with an increased risk of heart attacks. These factors must be taken into account before deciding which medication is the best to manage the pain.
nj joint pain specialist is an over-the-counter option for pain management that does not interfere with coagulation. However, since prolonged use of acetaminophen can cause liver damage, it should be limited to no more than 4,000 milligrams daily if you are 60 years old or less or 3,000 milligrams daily if you are over 60 years old. People affected by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) or hepatitis C virus (HCV) should consult their healthcare provider before using acetaminophen.
Medications with a nj pain doctors prescription
There are prescription medications to help with short-term pain, and sometimes with chronic pain. These include oxycodone, morphine, methadone and codeine. These medications are effective in many people but can be addictive. They should be used as directed and only under pain doctor nj medical supervision.
Other methods for pain management clifton new jersey
Chronic pain is often treated with over-the-counter or prescription medications, but there are other strategies that can also be used, such as joint replacement, fusion, or reconstruction. Chronic pain can also respond to physical therapy and exercise.
In addition to keeping your joints and muscles strong and healthy, physical therapy can help reduce pain. Your physiotherapist can design a program specifically for your needs and current health status.
Another possible technique for pain management clifton nj in people with bleeding disorders is transcutaneous stimulation (TENS). During TENS, a low-voltage electrical current is transmitted through the skin to stimulate the nerves in the affected region. The stimulus, which is not painful, is enough to hide the pain signals.
