[Image 1: A cropped tweet with a photo of Clark Kent, and the text: "I want to see a comic about the CIA trying to murder Clark Kent and making it look like an accident. Not because they know he's Superman but because he's a really good journalist. Make it a comedy because the CIA assassins can't figure out why their attempts keep failing."
Image 2: Tumblr post by user unpretty, whicy reads:
there was a golden age superman comic where someone called a hit out on clark kent, and so a sniper tried to shoot him while he was out having lunch with louis
except he's fucking superman so the bullets just fell off his chest into his lunch and clark just had to pretend nothing happened and hope louis wouldn't notice that someone just fucking shot him
the hitman thinks maybe he just missed and gets ready to shoot him again, but then he's watching through the scope as clark starts to eat the fucking bullets to hide the fucking evidence, acting like everything is totally normal as he noshes down on lead
dude just packs his shit up and leaves town because reporters in this city eat bullets for lunch and he's not fucking with that no way no how
Image 3: Part of said comic.
Panel 1: Later, at a dock on the other side of the bay...
"We'll have lunch here, Diana... before we look up the Long-Hair Gang!" Clark says, and thinks: "Surely those hoods won't try anything in a crowded restaurant!'
Panel 2: Better not make any bets on that...
In a dark room in a nearby building, a sniper takes aim. They say to their assistant: "I don't know what happened to our torpedo, but now I got a perfect bead on Kent in my telescopic sights. Here goes hot lead straight at his chest!"
The assistant says: "And with that silencer, no one will hear a thing!"
Panel 3: Diana and Clark are inside the restaurant.
Diana says: "How clever! All patrons are given Chinese Mandarin robes to wear! Which dish are you going to try next, Clark?"
The bullets shoot right past her head at Clark. He thinks: "Oh, oh! I feel bullets thudding against my chest! The flattened slugs are bouncing onto the table!"
Indeed, all the slugs fall right into one of the bowls in front of him.
Panel 4: "I'll have this one, Diana!" Clark says, and empties said bowl into his own dish. "I'm crazy about this Moo Goo Poo with water-chestnuts and pea-pods..."
Panel 5: Clark thinks: "...Not to mention 'broiled bullets'... (Ugh!) I'll have to swallow all the slugs! If Diana sees them, she might guess I'm Superman and that they bounced off my invulnerable body!"
The panel is a zoom in on Clark's teeth as he crunches on one of the slugs.

Seven Reasons to Love Suraya
A buzz has surrounded Suraya since details of the multipart Lebanese restaurant were first revealed in 2017. Excitement grew as Nathalie Richan, Roland Kassis, Greg Root, and chef Nick Kennedy unveiled the café and market, and then the dining room and bar, and finally the massive courtyard garden in phases over the last year. The result: Suraya is officially a destination spot, and Eater Philly’s Restaurant of the Year in the 2018 Eater Awards. Here’s why it’s a hit.
1. The versatility
The all-day café trend was already firmly part of Philly’s food scene, with restaurants like Hungry Pigeon and Res Ipsa transitioning from coffee and eggs to lunchtime sandwiches to evening entrees. But Suraya said “not enough.” Along with three services, the restaurant, which spans 12,000 square feet at 1528 Frankford Avenue, includes a market selling spices, oils, chocolates, and ceramics and a massive courtyard garden for drinking and dining outdoors.
“At night, Suraya is definitely a destination. We were talking to some guests the other night who came from an hour and a half away. It’s pretty humbling when you hear that,” says Root. “But during the day, it’s a really cool mix of folks in the neighborhood coming in for coffee in the morning and for lunch.”
Root and his partners at Suraya are still sorting out exactly what they’re doing with the gorgeous garden space, which stretches to Front Street and has its own bar. Live music is definitely on the table. “It’s going to be an oasis here in Fishtown,” Kennedy says.
2. The morning pastries
The light-as-air rose-pistachio cruller was the pastry that first made Philly sit up and pay attention. But that turned out to be just an introduction to Suraya’s morning scene. “A kouign amann fragrant with the heady scent of cardamom was greatness,” Bill Addison wrote in his review of the restaurant for Eater. “The ma’amoul, a domed cookie filled with dates, made me even happier.”
3. The dinnertime mezze
Is there a more enjoyable way to eat than covering a table with small plates and grazing? Suraya is named after Richan and Kassis’ grandmother, who raised the siblings in Beirut. Kennedy drew on their knowledge of Lebanese cooking — with help from their mother, Maude — to create the menu. While the whole grilled dorade is worth making a dinner reservation for, every meal at Suraya should include mezze: baba ganoush, labne, fatteh, kibbeh nayyeh, grape leaves, and more. “One of the great things at a Lebanese table is the mezze is a big part of the meal — putting as many things as possible on the table and having a bite of this, a bite of that,” Root says.
It works because the flavors play off each other, Kennedy adds: “You have a bite of tabbouleh, which is light, fresh and herbal, and the baba ganoush, which is smoky and rich, and then move to the crispy, earthy fried kibbeh.”
Melissa Alam
“Just like in Beirut, where there’s a very modern dining scene and chefs are taking creative license with traditional dishes, we put our own touches on it.”
4. The traditional cuisine made modern — like in Beirut
“Our goal is to be traditional and authentic, but of course in Lebanese cooking, like anywhere else, one family might have one recipe for baba ganoush, while another family with a different recipe is very adamant that theirs is the right way to make it. Here we add urfa biber — a dried Turkish chili pepper — just because I like that smoky, raison-y flavor,” Kennedy says. “Just like in Beirut, where there’s a very modern dining scene and chefs are taking creative license with traditional dishes and things are evolving, we put our own touches on it.”
Heidi’s Bridge
5. The Lebanese wines
Wine culture in Philly still has a ways to go — so any restaurant or bar doing something interesting in that department tends to stand out. Suraya’s selection of Lebanese wines from producers like Chateau Musar is a rarity here.
“Chateau Musar, the preeminent winery in the Bekaa Valley of Lebanon — they were organic before organic was a thing. They’ve been making wine for a very, very long time,” Root says. “We picked wines that pair very well with the food Nick and his team are putting out.”
Melissa Alam
6. The Lion’s Milk
Arak, a heady anise-flavored aperitif popular in the Middle East and Mediterranean regions, is commonly mixed with water to create a cloudy concoction known as “lion’s milk.” Diners at Suraya can order a 2-ounce pour or a sharable 8-ounce carafe. But there are other ways to use the spirit, as Suraya shows with its arak cocktails, like the Nightingale with apricot, almond, and Contratto.
“Arak is quite strong — it has a lot of personality,” Kennedy says. “I think people are looking to try something different, and when you integrate it into a cocktail it provides another layer of flavor.”
Heidi’s Bridge
7. The location
For a restaurateur, trendy Fishtown has the right mix of residents and businesses, plus square footage you can’t find in Center City. “The reason why we opened Suraya here and we both live here is that Fishtown has a great residential community, but it also has this business community of creative people and manufacturers living and working right in the neighborhood,” Kennedy says.
The concentration of eateries — for the most part neatly lined up next to each other — make Fishtown an ideal spot for bar- and restaurant-hopping. So while you could happily spend a few hours at Suraya sipping arak, noshing on mezze, digging into lamb kebabs and grilled fish, and devouring a dessert of kanafeh drizzled with rose syrup, if you’re in the mood to spread an evening out over a few locations, this is the neighborhood for it.
Suraya is the Eater Philly Restaurant of the Year for 2018. Over the next few months, we’ll be publishing a feature story on each of the winners.

Hexio plus drone
#HEXIO PLUS DRONE SOFTWARE#
#HEXIO PLUS DRONE BLUETOOTH#
More details are available on What?’s Web site. But with its handsome leather strap and pretty analog face, the What? has turned some heads in the few days I've been wearing it. Most people never ask me about my Apple ( AAPL) Apple Watch. The small team of engineers hails from a wide variety of geographic backgrounds including Finnish and Italian. The watch assemblies are made by a firm in Switzerland with a long history in the business. I imagine that can be fine tuned over time.įor Igor Basargin, who is Russian, What? is a nice change of pace from his prior life as a lawyer.
#HEXIO PLUS DRONE SOFTWARE#
It's a bit of a gimmick, and the software seems to involve too many steps to save a moment. On the watch face itself, the little dots of e-ink turn from grey to black to indicate you've got a moment in the month of September.
#HEXIO PLUS DRONE BLUETOOTH#
When you press the red button on the side of the watch, it uses Bluetooth wireless to tell the app on your smartphone to create a "moment." Basically, it's just a time stamp that opens a round window in the app for your to take a picture or a selfie commemorating that moment in time. The watch is a solid-feeling metal piece, with an elegant white or black face that is mostly traditional analog except for a layer of e-ink underneath the surface. I had attended their unveiling on Sunday at the Wythe Hotel in Brooklyn, where the company had rented out the rooftop for a view of the lunar eclipse. The docents are always dressed in some kind of interesting garb, and this season seemed to be vaguely spooky Elizabethan gowns.Īmong wearables, the Austrian firm What? was showing off a smartwatch that is getting lots of looks. Wednesday night's show was well attended, with guests noshing on hors d'ouevres, sipping wine, and kicking the tires. H ttps://startups have novel inventions that work with your smartphone across a range of product categories from smart lighting to wearables to drones to toys. If we reach our goal it’ll mean that there is a real need for HEXO+ and you’ll be the signal for that, so thanks in advance for your support. We’re putting the project in the hands of the Kickstarter community because it is the best way to be directly in touch with the users of our product and build this together. This accounts for $50k, the smallest budget we believe is necessary to make HEXO+ a reality, and starting at $499 apiece, an affordable one.īut that’s not all. We need to pay for molds, minimum orders on parts and build. Now, taking the leap to industrial production requires funds that we can’t secure without your help. Why? Because they would all love to have a tool like HEXO+. Our strong historical ties with the action sports community have given us extensive access to athletes and filmmakers and everyone is willing to support HEXO+. The shots we obtained are just awesome and that’s what matters. The drone is fast and agile, and the flight controller as responsive as we want it to be – from our action sport movie-making people perspective. What we’ve done so far is take our initial idea to the stage of a working prototype: we’ve been ramming through hardware and software hurdles until last month, when we managed to consistently make our prototype work in field conditions. We also integrated over the air gimbal control to obtain the best possible camera angle based on the relative positions of the drone and the subject. The onboard software is based on the 3D Robotics open-source code, and we optimised the MAVLINK implementation and the behavior of the drone to improve response time to commands sent from the mobile app. On the drone side of things, we have combined a drone that’s designed and optimised for aerial filming and action sports: robust construction, payload capacity and high speed and stability, thanks to the six tilted propellers. Finally, the smartphone and the drone communicate relative position to each other and data over the MAVLINK protocol, developed by the ETH in Zürich. This enables a quick, accurate tracking of the subject and is key in achieving great images. This user interface is backed by trajectory anticipation algorithms that crunch data coming from the sensors on the drone and smartphone to predict the next, most likely position of the subject. On the smartphone side we have an intuitive interface for you to handle your drone easily, position it where you want in space and potentially (stretch goal!) wifi video live feed. Our team has strong roots in critical aeronautic software development and that made HEXO+ possible. You might think this is borderline magic, but it’s actually all orchestrated by a smart and lean use of technology.

Too Good To Go
Too Good To Go
Too Good To Go is a mobile application that connects customers to restaurants and stores that have unsold food surplus. The application covers major European cities, and in October 2020, started operations in North America. As part of the initiatives taken on the International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste to reduce food loss and waste, the app is suggested alongside Nosh (App) and OLIO among many others.
The company was created in 2015 in Denmark by Brian Christensen, Thomas Bjorn Momsen, Stian Olesen, Klaus Bagge Pedersen, and Adam Sigbrand.
The application was co-founded in Switzerland and Austria by Jörgen Munter, in France by Lucie Basch, and in the United Kingdom by Chris Wilson and Jamie Crummie.
In February 2019, the company raised an additional 6 million euros in a new round of investment. In August 2019, Too Good To Go was re-launched in Austria. In November 2019, the offer of Too Good To Go was extended to plants through a partnership with the French retail plant’s company Jardiland. In December 2019, Too Good To Go partnered with the French grocery retail store Intermarché, and donated 60K euros to the French charity Restaurants du Cœur. In October 2021, Bonnie Wright teamed up with Too Good To Go to drive the initiative to reduce food waste.
Purpose and use
The purpose of Too Good To Go is to reduce food waste worldwide. It supports a free mobile application that connects restaurants and stores that have unsold, surplus food, with customers who can then buy whatever food the outlet considers surplus to requirements—without being able to choose—at a much lower price than normal. The food on the app is priced at one-third of its original price. The company claims this reduces the waste of food that would otherwise be discarded; food waste is a global problem that affects the environment. In three years active, the app reached more than 9.5 million users. More than 17,000 establishments have been associated with it, and 10,092,382 food packs have been delivered.
A mobile phone running Android or iOS is required and must be taken to the seller. The potential customer runs the TGTG app, which shows what outlets have what sort of food (baked foods, meals, produce, vegan food) available within a certain radius and in a specified timeslot, usually of 30 minutes or more. If any is selected the customer pays for it in a way compatible with the phone and collects within the timeslot; the app's display confirming payment is shown, and the transaction is finalized by swiping the app to confirm collection.
In 2019 the company had 350 employees in Europe. As of February 2022, the company is estimated to have more than 1200 employees.
I tried this app a few times and out of the 10times, I tried only 50% of the food was edible. The issue I run into was either the food was near the expiration date, or the leftover was not edible.
I believe that some companies are using this to a disadvantage by using food that doesn’t qualify for human consumption and pretending that they don’t want to waste the food by selling this. There should be rules and laws that prevent this thing to happen. What I have also noticed is if the food wasn’t good and you sent a picture to the management of Too Good To Go then they will refund your money back.

The Etiquette of Ride Sharing (Uber, Lyft, Etc.)
Ride sharing services like Uber and Lyft have nearly made taxis obsolete. While these services are similar to taxis, they of course aren’t exactly alike, so the rules of etiquette are a little different as well. Having good manners is even more pertinent in the world of ride sharing, since (and not all riders know this), not only do you rate the drivers, but the drivers rate you too. Especially if you’re a first-time or new user, it can be a little tricky to figure out the proper ride sharing protocol. Below we offer etiquette tips to make the most of your (and your driver’s) experience. Tipping The biggest question in regards to ride-sharing etiquette is tipping. How much do you give your driver? Both Uber and Lyft offer in-app tipping, but it can be easy to forget to utilize it; because payment is taken care of digitally and automatically, the ride leaves your mind the second you leave the car. Either make a point to rate (more on that below) and tip your driver ASAP, or keep cash on hand and just do it that way. It should be noted that even when you tip in-app, all that money goes to the driver. Neither Uber or Lyft take any portion of tips from their drivers. Tip as you would a standard taxi ride, which is 15-20%, with the average being more on the upper end of that. What makes this hard is that the in-app tipping is offered as a dollar amount with some pre-set options. Learn how to figure out what 15-20% is — a skill that will be useful for tipping in other scenarios too, of course — and choose the preset amount that matches your calculation or enter in your own amount when prompted about giving a tip. It’s that simple. Tip just as you would most other services. Don’t Request Early Don’t make your driver wait. At the airport, don’t make your request for a car while you’re still on the plane. If you’re at a restaurant, don’t request a car before your bill is paid. You’re wasting the time of the driver by making them wait, you’re costing yourself money (you get charged a small fee by the minute if you make a driver wait more than two minutes), and it’s just plain discourteous to boot. The only time to request a car before you’re actually ready is if you can see that it’s 5-10 minutes out. In those instances you can request your pick-up early, but only by a few minutes, and only if you’re absolutely sure you’ll be ready once the car does arrive. Where to Sit? One of the perpetual questions of ride-sharing. It’s not a taxi; it’s someone’s personal vehicle. So are the rules different? Not unless you want them to be. The majority of people just hop in the back, and that’s what your driver will expect as well, especially if you’re riding solo. If for some reason you want to ride in the front you sure can, but it’s a good idea to ask, just for the sake of politeness. If you’re riding with other people, especially if your party is 3 or more, then it’s definitely alright for someone to take the front seat (and it’s quite possibly preferable for the sake of comfort). If you do sit in the front, don’t fiddle with anything — stereo, heating/cooling, etc. You’d think this would be obvious, but it’s one of the top complaints of Uber drivers. Don’t Be a Backseat Driver With less of a barrier between you and the driver as there is in taxis, you might be tempted to give your opinions on their route. Don’t do that — even if some drivers wouldn’t mind. Unless they seem to be taking a route that’s way off base (not something I or anyone I know has experienced), just sit back and enjoy the ride. The only time you should be a backseat driver is if you might be feeling motion sick or perhaps just uncomfortable about how fast the driver is going. Nothing wrong with asking to slow things down and telling the driver that you’re not in a rush. Don’t Eat or Drink in the Car, Within Reason Remember that for the most part these are people’s personal vehicles. Do you want someone noshing on greasy fast food in your backseat or trying to wolf down some Chinese takeout? Generally not. If you have food, wait until you get to your destination. Beyond being messy, food just stinks up the car, and that can create a less-than-stellar experience for the next rider, who might give a lower rating because of it. All thanks to you. Don’t do that if it can be helped at all. Beverages are obviously more appropriate, especially if they have caps, but still be extra careful, just as you would in anybody else’s car. Just because you’re paying for the ride doesn’t mean you can be a slob. Make Small Talk, Only If You Want To A silent ride can feel awkward, and you may feel like you need to chat with the driver to ensure they rate you highly. But while many (though not all) drivers do like to talk, you’re not under any obligation to do so. Drivers usually let riders take the lead in showing they want to chat, so if you’d like to ride in silence, just twiddle on your phone or pop in your earbuds, and don’t feel weird about the quietude. Even though you’re not obligated to make small talk with your driver, you should still exchange some basic pleasantries when you get in and out of the car: “Hi, how’s it going? I’m headed to X destination. Thanks very much for the ride. Etc.” Treat the driver like a human, not an automaton. Speak Up If Something Isn’t to Your Liking If the temperature isn’t right, or music is too loud (or you don’t want music at all), speak up. The drivers generally want to please the customer, and are happy to oblige. They obviously don’t know your preferences though, so you have to mention it if something is making you uncomfortable or bothering you. And if and when they do comply with your ask, you should definitely give that 5-star rating. Miscellaneous Points of Courtesy Most drivers start you out at a 5-star rating, and then only take off stars if you do something really egregiously rude. While not following the guidelines below won’t necessarily lose you a star, it’s better to avoid the chance that it could, and they’re simple points of courtesy anyway: * Try to be physically clean and without body odor * Knock big clods of dirt off your shoes before entering the vehicle * Don’t have long, loud conversations on your phone * Don’t play music/games/movies very loud on your phone * If you location is hard to find (like a certain point in a large shopping center), text the driver more specific directions to help them find you * Don’t slam the doors/trunk loudly (some drivers really hate that) Freely Give 5-Star Ratings Most drivers give riders 5-star reviews, and you should return the favor. It really helps drivers if they get rated well. If you have a good experience, and have no complaints, don’t be stingy with a five-star review. Uber expects drivers to maintain very high ratings, and they can easily lose their gig if their score drops too low (rumors are that at Uber the number is 4.7). Now, if your experience was awful, then don’t be afraid to rate it as such, but in general, if the driver got you from point A to point B safely, that’s a 5-star ride. Library of Songdo International City
Songdo International City is located in the vicinity of Incheon Port, 56 km west of Seoul, the capital of South Korea. The city is only a 15-minute drive away from Incheon Airport, its ideal geographical location makes it a better place for business and trades in Northeast Asia. Songdo International City is known for being a tech-based, intellectual, and eco-city. While the infrastructure of the city is growing mature, the development of more cultural buildings, such as this public library, is expected to be a key indicator to carry out a cultural purpose into the city and hoped to draw closer connections with their living citizens.
The concept of this library starts from understanding the true nature of this library that it will not only be as a landmark in a city, but the importance of its publicity that connects with their local citizens and tourists. Therefore, two key spaces were carved out to create a Reading Hall (towards the south-facing natural view) and a Community Living Hall (towards north facing city/community) for the citizens/visitors to gather and possibly to host events or exhibitions. It is hoped that this new-generation library would bring great reading/learning experiences to the public, and being a local venue for events, gatherings, exhibitions to happen at the same time.
The rounded form responds best to its surrounding context, it allows maximum access from different directions, minimized the impact on the neighboring kindergarten, and maximizing the open space for their citizens to gather.
Moreover, based on accurate calculations by the designer, the building leans at an angle of 18.5° to the south to avoid direct sunlight in summer, and keep warm in winter, creating a bright, comfortable, and energy-saving space for reading and events. A concrete core wall with a cantilever-truss system is used as the structural system.
According to calculations by engineers, the reading hall uses only 4 diagonal structural columns for diagonal bracing, so that visitors enjoy the most extensive space for reading and viewing. After careful consideration, charred wood cladding and glass curtain were selected as the main materials for the façade. The combination of these two materials not only brings contrasts to visual appearances. It also adapts to the local context climatically, the charred wood is expected to last for 80 to 100 years, with minimum maintenance needed.
The interior organizations of the library are main the Living Hall (North facing), which connects the outdoor public space, events, gathering, open lectures are expected to happen in this space, and the usage of the Auditorium, Community Classrooms are all accessible by the public even if the main library area is closed; and the General Reading Hall (South Facing), this cascading space is organized into multiple reading zones to encourage different learning activities for both individual and group users.
Sustainability considerations took place in the early concept stage as the building tilted to the south to avoid direct sunlight and reduce heat gain in summer and gain thermal energy in winter. This would create a comfortable reading space (South facing) and a bright community living hall (North facing) for events and exhibitions. Further sustainable and LEED design strategy helps the building with natural ventilation, low energy consumption, maximum recycled energy, and collections, it is becoming a truly self-sustaining architecture.
The value of the library as a place gradually weakens due to the impact of the Internet, but it plays an important role in the accumulation, sharing, and dissemination of knowledge. It is the home of interesting souls and the cultural repository of a city, with consideration to the social significance of civilization preservation. The comfortable reading spaces and multi-functional public space will reshape the value of the library as a place so that it serves as the cultural paradise for the citizens, and a cultural landmark where people like to visit. The building itself is a smart building “living” in the, and also a “future” library.
