hey!! i saw that post about books you’ve read, i was wondering what arctic books are your favorites? hope you’re doing well!!

hello!! i haven’t read ~~a lot~~ and i like all of them so far so i’m just gonna put everything and try to rank them.

barrow’s boys (fergus fleming) --  this is the longest i’ve read and i did enjoy it a lot even though there were bits i really wanted to skim through. i think if you really want to get an idea of the zeitgeist and why people were so obsessed with exploration, then you should read this book. it’s j u i c y af when it comes to sailors being bitchy at each other, but the best thing i liked about it was how it didn’t shy away from criticizing the fore figures of the time when it comes to their ready willingness to sacrifice lives for a personal ambition.

frozen in time (owen beattie & john geiger) -- love me some good old science applied to history. this is a lot of people’s favorite, and probably a lot of people’s introduction to the franklin expedition. well-researched, solid methodology, and backed by data so i can’t really fault it, and it also has some really descriptive writing that makes you tingle and go “u g h humanity!!!💖”. also, three run-ins with actual (non-mystical) polar bears! 

finding franklin (russell potter) -- look i know certain circles of fandom have beef with this guy, but the man can write and he made a compelling and entertaining narrative. i am as interested in the franklin expedition as much as in the people who’ve tried to unlock its secrets. the gjoa haven bit really made me tear up. 

last man standing (michael smith) and james fitzjames: the mystery man... (william battersby) -- i tend to lump these two together in terms of relevance and quality, because biographies are really just... that way. they’re very important, especially if you write fic, but take everything with a grain of salt, especially when the author’s fanboy is showing.

lieut. john irving, a memorial sketch (benjamin bell) -- this would have ranked higher were it a bit more detailed and wasn’t constrained by the duration of irving’s letters. but a worthwhile read all the same. if only there was someone out there who would write a proper irving biography 👀

I'm always torn between a cute cottage and a big ass house, so let's go cute small-town cottage on the outside, but it's like the TARDIS and has a lot of space inside kay thanks

Cute and rustic inside, a lot of white/lightly coloured walls with accent colours, a fireplace for sure, winding staircase, LOTS of windows cause i need that 👌 good 👌 natural 👌light 👌

3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms (one of them with a GIANT bathtub cause bubble baths forever), a big kitchen cause i love cooking and baking, a reading nook with a window seat, a personal library (duh)

i have no idea about Proper Interior Design for how it would look, but yeah that's like My Vibe™
