Norbert Kox has past away today 1945-2018! He was a huge inspiration. A guiding light in darkness. A man of faith and spiritual awareness beyond this realm. His art will be a lasting testament and an eternal guide for artists and art lovers forever. A gift to humanity from the universe. Miss you Norbert... love you man! An interview with Joe Roberts, an artist who’s style and approach I really like.
He mainly uses markers, pens or acrylic paint to depict anything from nature, animals, to pop culture symbols. I like the approach that he takes when making work, using materials and old drawings to create something new:
"I always made collages and drawings. Before that, I just scrawled on pieces of paper for months or years at a time. Sometimes, I'd make something out of a drawing I made three years before."

“His grandfather was particularly inspirational. “[He made] sculptures from found objects, different printing methods, drawings, collages, paintings – pretty much everything. He really enjoyed making stuff and experimenting with new mediums...”

The work reminds me a of the outsider artist Norbert Kox, who creates very dystopian, apocalyptic paintings that contain religious symbols and communicate his attitudes towards organised religion. In both these artists’ works I feel drawn to the endless amount of signs and symbols contained in them; there is a lot to unpick and understand in each piece. At the moment I’m struggling to convey my ideas in a concise way in my own practise, so by throwing in as many ideas as possible it could help me to break the work down and gradually pick out bits that I want to develop further. I also like the idea of taking old drawings of bits and pieces that I have laying around to create something new.

The Sgt. Pepper’s of outsider artists and gallery owners. It its such a huge honor to be part of this amazing list (family) of Outsiders. These are the legends and most times unknowns who have paved the way for such a powerful genuine vision. At the helm has been @JohnMaizels of Raw Vision Magazine. This is the cover of his #100 edition and 30 years of powering through with publishing each issue. On the cover: Norbert Kox, Darger, Talpazan, Laffoley, Wolfli, Monsiel, Chomo, Lesage, Dubuffet, Ramirez, Fengyi…and many more. Please support this analog rag and get yourself a copy @rawvisionmagazine the world's only international journal of the art of the 'unknown geniuses' who are the creators of Outsider Art. Untrained, unschooled and uninfluenced by the art world, the work of these artists continues to stun and amaze. They invent their own forms, techniques and create private worlds. https://www.instagram.com/p/Bs3V5Z-goB_/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=b0owhfdbqh90
