Jan Asselijn (c. 1610-1652) painted this small equestrian portrait in 1634. It depicts a soldier on horseback, who is wearing a large orange sash tied around his waist. Portraits like this one, although usually much larger, were reserved for nobility. This might be a specific equestrian portrait, however the identity of the horseman is unknown. Nieuw boek: Brabant & Jiangsu 江苏省⠀

Met mooie linnenomslag, fel kleurenpalet en ambachtelijk gebonden. Wat een prachtopdracht was dit. Voor @provincienoordbrabant mocht ik dit boek maken. Over de relatie Brabant en Jiangsu (China). Het kleurenpalet van dit boek is gebaseerd op de vlag van Brabant: rood-wit en Jiangsu: rood-geel. Inclusief prachtige op China geïnspireerde patronen voor elk titelblad. Een feestje om te maken. 🎉⠀

Portrait of a four-year-old boy, painted by Cornelis de Vos (1584-1651) in 1627, from the collection of @akademiegalerievienna . Judging by his clothes the boy was part of wealthy family. The boy is dressed and portrayed in a pose as if he were an adult. In the 17th century it was quite common for boys to be portrayed in their future roles, often a reference to the profession and reputation of the father.
