Hello! First off, I just want to say that I adore your artworks. You're actually one of my favorite artists on Tumblr and Instagram. My question is how long have you been a Gorillaz fan and do they inspire you?

I’ve been a fan since I was little, it was 2005 I believe, the Demon Days era! Songs from that album started popping up everywhere, I never took notice of that because I was a young bean at the time, I didn’t realise they were from the same group. One of the songs I took notice of was O Green World, mostly because it was the song that was used in my school Performance at the time. And I heard it over and over again (And you know the Gorillaz effect) and it quickly became my favourite song! Even today it’s still my favourite Gorillaz song of all time! Either way, I was never too interested in the lore and characters until 2016, when my friend brought up Gorillaz to me and I decided to look into the lore and realised there was so much that I had missed in Gorillaz, I only thought they were cool looking mascots for the band lol but they were so much more! That’s my Gorillaz story haha so yeah i’ve been a fan for a while! And Of course they inspire me! They got me to be more open to other music! They taught me to keep respecting other cultures music and Jamie’s artstyle got be to stop my same face artstyle that was happening, it was pretty bad haha

DARE: Which Gorillaz vehicle do you like best? (Geep, Stylo, Red Car from Saturnz Barz, Murd oc’s Winnebago, etc.) : THE STYLO.... IS SO... PRETTY.... I saw photos of it and i gasped like wow.... It’s a tie between stylo and the car from saturns barnz (it’s a 1961 convertible cadillac!!)

Heyo! I’m not sure if I’m late to the wonderful OC drawing craze, but I figured I might as well post my interpretations of @noodlelove15‘s OCs, Boomer, Wesley, and Lily! Man, these characters have been through so much. (R.I.P. Roosevelt.) I dunno, I really liked the idea of Boomer generally having a scatteredly put together appearance, as well as self-tailored items, so he can look the coolest in his own eyes, and Wesley being a pretty effortlessly presentable person style-wise, with Lily being the cutest shin-kicker around.

hello!! im new to the gorillaz fandom--like, DAYS new--and ive been all over the place trying to absorb fandom memes and info and all that. i just wanted to say that your blog makes me super happy and i wish you the best of days

Hi hello! i’m glad you like my blog that is so sweet welcome to the fandom (?? it sounds kind of strange to say) I don’t have a ton of fandom experience myself since Gorillaz is the only fandom I’ve ever really been ‘active’ in but I really like it everyone I’ve talked to has been really kind I think you’ll really enjoy it.

Idk if you care for this but I’m going to use this as an opportunity to share some of my fav Gorillaz blogs that you can take a look at if you want more content: 

@gorillaz-gal darling, sweet-heart, angel, I would die for her. Her enthusiasm is infectious I always am put in a good mood when I see her on my dash, irl noodle

@stylc where I usually go to get “Gorillaz New’s” She’s so good at keeping on top of all Gorillaz content idk how she does it, also puts links to everything which is really nice (and convenient) 

@stopgorillazreposts a very good blog, the owner is very dedicated to making sure artist are given the proper credit I admire it a lot pls give them some love

@noodlelove15 I admittedly don’t know much about her but she was one of the first Gorillaz blogs I followed so I want to give her a shout-out, good content

@gorxllaz idk what it is about their blog I just Like Their Content and find myself looking it pretty often they just got something good going on

@beatnosound really good stuff, they seem very cool, very good

ORANGE: What kind of shows/movies do you like to watch?

I like to watch cartoons and light hearted shows because I don’t digest violence and angst in media too well. When I see pain in shows, etc, I feel it personally because I have too much empathy for my own taste haha :(

So I love cartoons! I love love love Clarence, for example. It’s my favourite cartoon of all time.

I’ve also grown to appreciate some the pre-schooler cartoons my toddler watches, design/writing/animation wise. Like, I’m a grown ass adult but I will write you a full essay about why Nella the princess knight doesn’t have a believable and cohesive writing that properly teaches kids life lessons in a flowing and natural way.

Movies?? I like animation!! And super hero movies to some extent.

Hiya! I was a huge fan of Gorillaz when I was a teen (but my English was terrible) and now I'm a lot older, and I've only now found out about the story, clips, book etc. I've just lapped up everything I could find and now I'm searching for cool tumblr-blogs about our fave 4 people. Do you have any favourite blogs that you can recommend? And anything I need to know now that I have entered the fandom-part of the band?

as for stuff you need to know, i think it’s important to keep in mind that the canon lore itself can have lots of gaps in it both because of the length of the time period over which it’s being written and also because in all honesty jamie’s a pretty mcfucking shit writer and damon’s more focused on the music anyway. because of that a lot of the generally-accepted headcanons and characterizations aren’t actually canon, which can be kind of confusing to newcomers. but personally, part of the reason why i love gorillaz so much is because the amount of gaps in the lore allows the story to be filled in in a bunch of different ways (most of which are better than anything jamie could ever write anyway tbh). 

also like this can be applied to fandom in general, or really any piece of media, but remember to stay critical of the media you consume, especially with gorillaz! as they said in phase 1, reject false icons and don’t think that just because stuff is canon that it’s free from being critiqued or being problematic. many aspects are super problematic (jamie’s shitty track record of racism and sexualization, fandom’s shitty tendency to ignore russel, the shitty fact that the writers hand out mental illnesses and traumas and abuse like candy and then just fucking LEAVE THEM THERE AND DON’T DO ANYTHING WITH THEM, among others) and being aware of them and actively critiquing their portrayal is an important part of being an involved and informed consumer of fiction. hope this helped!
