Nonthaburi 1 Ch F: Aslan Karatsev def. Gregoire Barrere [2] 7-6(5), 7-5 Match Stats
Tumblr media
📸 ATP official website
G. Barrere had some moments of brilliance somewhere, but Aslan handled some pressure points better thanks to his trademark aggression. Even though some backhand errors caused the former's earlier break in the second set, Aslan bounced back and confirmed his control assertion to this match, ultimately firing shot winners before breaking at the end of the second set. As a result, Aslan converted 40% of his 5 break points, while G. Barrere only had 2 break points in this match.
Besides, Aslan had a better service game percentage than G. Barrere. Even though the second seed scored 4 aces than the latter's 7, Aslan won 80% of his first serve points, 8% more than the Frenchman as he tried to control most of the flow. However, despite the risks, as evident with his 3 double faults, both players still won 50% of their second serve points, coming down to how they followed things up since.
Re-entering the Top 250 right after this title, Aslan will continue his journey this week in the Nonthaburi 2 Challenger as he will face fourth seed Yan Bai in the first round, while G. Barrere heads to the Australian Open qualifying rounds and will face sixteenth seed Learner Tien in the first round. That could be a tricky affair, but who knows what will happen from there!

India, Asean leaders up relations on add'l mutual interests
#PHnews: India, Asean leaders up relations on add'l mutual interests
NONTHABURI, Thailand – Leaders of the 10-country Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) are one in pushing for stronger relations with India, being an important pillar that supports the multilateral system and regionalism.
This was stressed by Thailand Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha in his speech during the opening ceremony of the ASEAN-India Summit here Sunday, November 3, which is part of the 35th Asean Summit and Related Summits scheduled from Nov. 2-4, 2019.
He said both the multilateral system and regionalism bids promote “stability and prosperity in the region and the world based on mutual benefit and mutual respect”.
Asean and India are optimistic to see further improvement in their strategic partnership for the benefit of both regions, he said.
“Rather, this is done through the implementation of the Plan of Action to implement the Asean-India Partnership for peace, progress and shared prosperity, or the Asean Outlook on Indo-Pacific,” he added.
The Asean Outlook on the Indo-Pacific aims to, among others, guide cooperation in the region, help promote peace, stability and prosperity while addressing challenges by using rules-based regional structure, and enhance Asean Community’s building process.
Relatively, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed willingness to increase partnership with Asean by way of better surface, maritime and air connectivity through digital links.
He said the USD1 billion line of credit from India "will be useful”, referring to the fund that India extended to Asean during the 13th ASEAN-India Summit in November 2015.
“Our aim is to have a great increase in the mobility of people for studies, research, trade, and tourism. In order to achieve these goals India is ready to increase its partnership with Asean in areas of mutual interest,” he said.
Modi said India is also ready to tie-up with Asean on agriculture, science, information and communications technology (ICT), engineering, maritime security, blue economy and humanitarian assistance.
The World Bank (WB) defines blue economy as the “sustainable use of ocean resources for economic growth, improved livelihoods and jobs while preserving the health of the ocean ecosystem.
Modi also “welcomed” the move to review the Asean-India free trade agreement (FTA), noting that “this will help not only to further strengthen our economic relations but our trade will also be more balanced”.
Chief Presidential Legal Counsel and Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said President Rodrigo R. Duterte, who was invited by the Thai Prime Minister to join the Asean-India Summit, shared his thoughts on the adoption of the Asean Outlook on the Indo-Pacific.
“He cited the need to broaden cooperation in science, technology, innovation, educational and vocational training exchanges,” he said.
Panelo said the President also “took the occasion to point out that the Philippines shares India's priorities, such as the latter's focus on the blue economy, particularly their country's sustainable management of coastal and marine resources.”
“Having said this, PRRD raised the urgency to jointly counter marine debris generation, monitor the movement of marine litter, and evaluate systems of marine pollution,” he said.
The President also identified poverty alleviation and inequality reduction as shared goals of Asean and India, and urged India to conclude the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership in order to narrow development gap.
These topics, Panelo said, show that “foremost in the mind of the President of the Philippines is the interest of his nation and his people with due consideration and respect to the concerns of others, and that he will not waver in expressing the same explicitly before the international stage.” (PNA)

Top 10 Weird Experiences & Things To Do In Thailand
From its climate to its landscape, Thailand is a country of stark contrasts. Offering a diverse backdrop where buzzing metropolises meet rural traditions, this is a destination of beauty and marvel. It might be easy to stick to the well-trodden tourist route and explore the common attractions on everyone’s bucket lists, but there is much more to this country than you may know. In fact, it is a hub for unusual activities. So, with plenty of weird things to do in Thailand and unusual things to try, it seems only right that we guide you through the country’s truly unmissable experiences.
Finding unique, exciting and weird things to do in Thailand is not as tricky as it might sound. In fact, the country is laden with rare and wonderful sites, unusual experiences and one-off opportunities, offering jaded tourists relief from the mundane and the chance to experience a little bit of “This Crazy Asia”. Here, we explore the 10 very best weird things to do, helping you to get off the beaten path and into the real heart of this beautiful and crazy country.
Drink Yourself(ie)
Why not take a selfie of yourself, with your selfie coffee? Image Credit: wongnai.com
We start with perhaps one of the most unusual things to try in Thailand. What happens when two of the biggest crazes of the 21st century merge? Coffee and selfies have become a key part of daily life, so the meeting of the two seemed only inevitable. Though it may sound narcissistic, having your face placed on top of your morning caffeine hit certainly breaks up the monotony of the coffee run. Located in the heart of Bangkok, the KC Café, or KC Selfie Coffee as it is fondly nicknamed, invites you to drink your own selfie. The experience is certainly one of the most unique things to do in Thailand! Head to KC and present your barista with your self-portrait. They will then transform your coffee foam into a work of art. As well as portrait coffees, the café also serves bubble tea, decadent desserts, steaks and classic Thai cuisine, in its cosy retro-inspired interior, making it one of the most unique things to do in Thailand. The café is open every day except Tuesdays, between the hours of 11 am and 10 pm. Go on, indulge yourself!

Visit a Cursed Beach
Are you brave enough to challenge the wrath of the God of Tarutao?
Of all the weird things to do in Thailand, this might be the most tempting. Have you ever visited a beach and taken one of its pebbles home with you as a memento? Well here some souvenirs come with more than a lasting memory. The black pebble beach of Koh Hingham island is one destination that may make you reconsider your souvenir needs. This idyllic uninhabited island not only boasts a beautiful shoreline but an ancient jinx, put in place by Thai deity, the God of Tarutao. According to ancient legend, Tarutao’s curse affects any visitor who provokes his powers by removing a pebble from the island. Many travellers have ignored the myth and dared to take one of its monochrome stones home, only to post it back to the National Park in order to lift the omen from their heads. Visitors are invited to touch and play with the pebbles, but may the Thai Gods help you if don’t leave every stone behind! So, if you’re looking for unusual things to try in Thailand, this should definitely be on your list!
How to get there:
You can reach Koh Lipe Island from Bangkok via Hat Yai airport, before taking a shuttle bus to Pak Bara pier for around 250 THB. From the pier, take a ferry to Koh Lipe for 650 THB. Once there, find an aged Thai man, who offers round trips to Koh Hingham island for as little as 800 THB, depending on your haggling skills. The journey takes around 20 minutes.
Spend the Night in Prison
Isn’t it absolutely crazy? That’s why we love Thailand! Image Credit: facebook.com/sookstation
If you’re looking for truly unique things to do in Thailand, then read on. Sook Station is a quirky prison-themed hostel in the heart of Bangkok. When you check-in you’ll have your mugshot taken, be assigned an inmate number and be given stripped pyjamas for your evening in jail. For just 1,800 THB, you’ll then be taken to your cell, complete with bunk beds, iron doors and metal bars against its windows. That’s right, a night in this hostel is by far one of the most unusual things to try in Thailand! While you serve your time, make the most of the hostel’s tranquil outdoor terrace, free coffee facilities, authentic Thai food and inclusive Wi-Fi, just don’t be late for lights-out curfew! If you’re lucky enough to check-out in the morning, you’ll be given a criminal record as a souvenir of your time!

Visit the World’s Strangest Temple
Become transfixed by the weird and wonderful carvings of this temple.
You will find hundreds of Buddhist temples scattered across Southeast Asia, yet none of them stand out quite as much as this one. So, if you’re looking for religion-inspired unique things to do in Thailand, make time for The Sanctuary of Truth! Positioned right on the beach at Ratchavete Cape, Pattaya, this unique temple is a fusion between art installation, shrine and community monument. Entirely carved from wood, the building reveals faces and stories taken from Buddhist and Hindu lore. Standing at over 100 metres tall, the sanctuary was commissioned by Thai businessman, Lek Viriyaphant, as a hybrid of art, philosophy and religion. Construction commenced in 1981 and the temple remains unfinished to this day. As you walk around, you’ll be able to spot large carved elephants, creepy human faces and ethereal religious Gods, all hand engraved from solid wood. You can only gain access to the sanctuary via a guided tour, which run every half an hour between 8 am and 5 pm. Tickets cost just 450 THB. Make the most of your trip to Pattaya by staying in one of our carefully curated villas and apartments.

Walk Around an Airplane Graveyard
Step back in time and take a walk through (or become a pilot) in an abandoned airplane.
One of the most unique things to do in Thailand involves taking a walk around a field littered with broken airplanes. Home to the wreckages of numerous large aircrafts, the Airplane Graveyard was first discovered in 2010, when two Boeing 747s were found abandoned in a field. In 2014 two McDonnell Douglas MD-82 jetliners, belonging by Orient Thai Airlines, were introduced to the site, including one which was involved in a crash at Phuket International Airport in 2007. By 2015 another large Boeing 747 was added, turning the plane junkyard into a graveyard. Even more strangely, three Thai families now call these planes home and have transformed the site into a surprising tourist hit. Here, you can climb inside the abandoned planes, walk along their former aisles and witness historic in-flight magazines strewn across their floors. Admission to the site varies in price and ranges from between 100 THB to 800 TBH, depending on your bargaining skills, which only adds to the experience. Access is limited to strict one-hour time slots, but it is worth the visit, because this is definitely one of the most unusual things to try in Thailand.
Useful Info:
Address: Soi 103 Ramkhamhaeng Road, Hua Mak, Bang Kapi, Bangkok 10240
Getting there: Take an eastbound water taxi that travels along the Klong Saen Saep canal and get off at the last stop, Wat Sriboonruang on Ramkamhaeng Soi 107.
Have a Heart-to-Heart with a Monk
Get the low-down on life from a real-life Monk
One of the most unique things to do in Thailand is also one of the most rewarding. Across the country, Buddhist Monks are taking part in informal chats with eager travellers, hoping to seek spiritual or philosophical advice for leading a better life. Chiang Mai is a hub for such conversations, hosting a series of events in various temples across the city. You will sit with a group of young Monks and their teacher and are free to ask any questions that you may want answering. Monk Chats are taking place in various locations across the country, including at Wat Chedi Luang Temple daily between 9am and 6pm, Wat Phra That Doi  Suthep Temple daily between 1pm and 3pm and Wat Suan Dok Temple, Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 5pm and 7pm. If you’re looking for somewhere to stay during your adventure, check out our hand-selected villas and apartments in the heart of Chiang Mia.

Go Shopping in the Past
Step back in time with a trip to Bangkok’s oldest mall. Image Credit: mackerel.life
Frozen in time since its grand opening in 1966, the Nightingale-Olympic Department Store is a mysterious and odd place to spend a few hours. We suggest you scrap your travel itinerary, because this is by far one of the most weird things to do in Thailand. The mall’s dusty shelves are filled with historic items, while mannequins exhibit 1960s clothing and cosmetic counters showcase outdated beauty products. An insight into the forgotten past of Bangkok, the mall happens to be the oldest in the city. Open Monday to Saturday between 9am and 5.30pm, head here to purchase yourself a vintage tennis racket, browse historic fashion magazines or witness retro products preserved from a bygone era. Looking for more inspiration? Discover the hidden gems found off the country’s beaten track.

Eat According to Your Blood-type
They say you are what you eat… Image Credit: facebook.com/vistakitchen
Of all the unusual things to try in Thailand, we may have found the winner. If you’ve ever been to the country, you’ll know that it has its fair share of weird dishes. Well, dining just got a little more unique, thanks to the introduction of the country’s first ever restaurant serving food based on blood type. That’s right, Vistakitchen was founded by Suwimon Suteesopon after Arthritis plagued her life for decades. Suwimon found solace in a blood-type diet book, which revealed the benefits of eating based on your specific blood group. Head to Vistakitchen, tell them your blood type and enjoy delicious, homemade foods to meet your individual needs. Those in group O can enjoy a range of seafood while those in group A will be served a vegetarian dinner. With curries, desserts and smoothies on the menu, you’re sure to find something to excite your taste buds – as long as it’s within your blood group, that is! We think this might just make your list of weird things to do in Thailand!

Get Massaged by a Prison Inmate
Get pampered in prison!
So you’re looking for unique things to do in Thailand? Well, you may have just found the most extreme! Located right in the heart of Chiang Mai’s Old Town, the Women Correctional Institution Vocational Training Centre aids female inmates with gaining skills for their release. A correctional officer will take you to your massage room, where a female inmate will use her newly-found skills to pamper you. Don’t be discouraged; all the masseurs here are non-violent offenders. A type of community service, their massage training lasts for 180 hours, so you know you’ll be in safe hands during your visit. The Women Correctional Institution is open Monday to Friday between 8 am and 4.30 pm and weekends from 9 am until 4.30 pm. A one-hour foot massage costs just 180 THB while a two-hour Thai massage is just 360 THB. The centre doesn’t take advanced bookings, so arrive early to make sure you get an appointment. End your pampering session with true luxury and stay at one of our beautiful holiday rentals in the heart of the city.

G. Barrere had some fair chances in the second set, but Aslan still nailed the pressing moments as if he never left. In the third game, G. Barrere came up with a forehand pass moments after responding to Aslan's smash to set up his game point before he held to 2-1. Two games later, Aslan had some earlier chances to break thanks to his drop-shot that secured his 2-point lead, but G. Barrere saved those chances to hold 3-2.
The next few games were crucial as Aslan's backhand errors caused the Frenchman to break 4-2 only to be broken back (4-3) thanks to Aslan quickly rediscovering his range due to the previous game's margin of error. Generating his initial break point through his powerful fourth-shot winner, Aslan converted the break point thanks to a forehand return ace, holding his serves to 4-4 to level the play. A deeper return that got G. Barrere's unforced error generated Aslan's break point, but the second seed still held his serves to 5-4.
Within the next two games, Aslan came up with a forehand down-the-line winner to set up his 2-point lead before breaking to 6-5 in a similar manner. As a result, Aslan earned his chance to serve for the match, overcoming tightness within the first 4 points by firing a forehand winner which G. Barrere applauded to for his match point, converting his match point right after to take the second set 7-5, as well as securing his first title in over 2 years.

Tour Of Friendship | Open 2017
Day 0
There’s a feeling of familiarity about my 5th consecutive ToF. It’s largely the same faces in the Nonthaburi hotel, same waitresses in the restaurant and I even get the same room for 3rd year in a row! The hotel is completely unchanged - including the mysterious mattresses stacked in the stairwell but you can’t complain given the bargain cost of the event (18000 baht for 5 days).
Change is afoot in the race though. The obligitary 7km TT being changed at the last minute to an 18km trek round an army airbase & stages 3-5 are all new. Little is known about the new stages but it promises something fresh for a race that many have started skipping due to the repetition & the host of alternative racing options now available.
Representing Allied World Champion System, we’ve got Pierre (strung out on antibiotics), Raoul, Pete B, Sofiane, Hong Kong Paolo and myself. Open is packed - up from 40 to 88 riders! - so it should be an interesting week.
Day 1 - 18km ITT
An apocalyptical rainstorm at 3am broke early and we headed out to some still drying roads to the new stage 1 at an army air base 90km outside Bangkok. Officially the start was 9am but delays led to it being nearer 9.40 before the 1st rider rolled off.
Tumblr media
The new course proved to be excellent. 18km of smooth, flat and mostly shaded roads led to some fast times. The only negative would be the stretch of 4 consecutive speed bumps in the last 3km but they were a small price to play. The army MPs stationed around the course even saluted when we came past every checkpoint!
I started behind Strooper and had little illusion that I could keep him in sight. Thankfully my 60,90 and 120 second men came into sight so I at least had something to chase. My power wasn’t great and I finished back in 30th on a 26.15 time. 41km/avg with a 176 heart rate.
Tumblr media
PA is our best placed man in 9th suggesting the next few days are going to hurt.
Tumblr media
Day 2 - 118km
Today was 118km in a windy furnace out to Kanchanaburi. It’s one saving grace being that the stage was pancake flat.
With Long straight roads, a breakaway was always going to be challenging. A few brave souls tried - including multiple attacks from Pierre. His best was a 10km break that got maybe 40 seconds at best. Hats off to Specialized Shanghai who did a fine job riding tempo and policing the front for the majority of the morning.
Tumblr media
Sadly Paolo was ruled out of contention in the sprint after snapping his bars early in the stage. Riding mostly one-handed, he still finished in the top 10 on the day. Everyone else finished safely in the pack.
Tumblr media
The day was largely uneventful. My legs felt ok initially but everything after 80km felt like a drag. My gears were noisy as hell and the cassette was taking 30 seconds to make the move into the 11 sprocket. An early gangbang with a pothole also had my bars arrowed down for the whole race. 41 average for the day but largely an easyish tempo ride.
PA also got a chance to try my vinegar cramp cure in the van on the way back. Cramps disappeared immediately after I squirted him in The Eye accidentally.
Day 3 - 127km
Death or glory stuff today.
127km with 30km of lumpy stuff in the middle. As one of the new stages, no one really knew the finish and it was all a bit chaotic as riders second guessed where it might be.
Pretty much the whole team took flyers off the front at some point. Sofiane had the most success - creating the break of the day which stayed out for 30km. I managed about 7km for mine which took me over the 1st hill of the day successfully before getting caught.
There were 3 larger climbs and we lost a lot of the peloton over the day. I struggled to hang on over the 2nd climb but did enough to claw on the back and survive.
Tumblr media
Pierre was taken out in the last km at 50km/hr and snapped his frame, forks and destroyed a wheel. Thankfully no bones broken but a few chucks of skin off.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Paolo nailed the sprint to perfection and took home the victory for the team! He moves into the top 10 with the bonus seconds.
Thanks to The CycAM team we have a borrowed bike & Pierre will start tomorrow. Mostly tempo day with a few challenging moments on the climbs. 39 avg with the hills.
On an unrelated front, I also discovered that chamois Creme makes an excellent replacement for shaving foam!
Day 4 - 98km
Stage 4 was shortened overnight from the initial 130km down to a mere 98km. One can only imagine what the unabridged stage would have been like as many listed the 98km as one of the hardest days ever on a bike.
Tumblr media
The team rolled out flush with the success of Paolo’s win on the previous stage. Pierre Alain was bandaged like a mummy and on a borrowed bike.
Myself & Raoul took off at 5km - along with a CCN Foil dude - with the goal of making it to the KoM first. We stayed out for 35km before being caught in the final kilo before the new climbs started. Both subsequently paying dearly for the early heroics…
Tumblr media
The new climbs started with about 10km at around 6% split over 3 main ramps. This was followed by 15km of rollers - some of which hit over 25%. Uturn and do it all in reverse, followed by a climb up a dam. In 40 degree heat.
Jean-Luo (ex Saur Sojasun pro) Frenchman attacked at the start of first climb - followed by 2-3 guys. Behind, Paolo noticed that no one would take turns, so forged a tactical agreement with Beardy McBeard to bridge & drop the remaining wheel suckers.
Tumblr media
With the yellow jersey dropped there were about 6 chasing Jean-Luo at the midway point and the attrition commenced. Realising no one had legs to close the gap, Paolo chased solo for 10km and could see a lead group of 4 ahead. At 70km, he made contact and worked together with the Frenchman.
Tumblr media
With 5km to go, it was down to just Paolo and Jean-Luo for the dam ascent. A cramp in the final km put Paolo out of sprint contention & he came home 2nd - about 17 seconds down.
Friend of the team Mike Korenoff came home 6th, 1 minute back. PA came home in the top 15 on the borrowed bike. Pete was next, followed by Raoul, a punctured Sofiane and Don. Really hard day on the bike for all & one that destroyed the GC rankings.
Tumblr media
Paolo now sits 2nd in GC. 7 seconds off the lead. With bonus seconds available for the sprints, tomorrow’s final stage is going to be fireworks!
Tumblr media
We had to give PAs loaner bike back overnight leading to a massive scramble to find a replacement. Amazingly someone came through with a beautiful Cervelo S5 about 30 mins before the race start.
Day 5 - 90km
Stage 5 was always going to be a tough one. Paolo was in 2nd - only 7 seconds off the GC lead. With 5 others lurking within 1 minute, massive attacks were a certainty.
Our best chance of victory was for Paolo to pick up the bonus seconds in the sprint so we tried to keep the race together. The team valiantly fought and held the race together till the 80km mark. This required some Monster work especially on the Long 5km uphill drag that saw half the peleton blow out the back.
Tumblr media
I was popping just over the top  of the Long drag. The immediate descent at 80km/hr afterwards surrounded by riders on the highway was too much and I dropped back. I had the group in sight till Km 60 before sitting up and easy spinning home.
The new finish at 90km wasn’t signposted well and took most by surprise. Iron Mike K nabbed 3rd but the overall GC remained unchanged. Paolo ended the GC in second behind the former Saur Sojasun pro Jean Lou.
Overall it was a fantastic race. The new stages and stronger peleton led to some great racing and the overall laid back atmosphere was a pleasure for all. Great to see ToF getting back on form again - The new stages definitely reinvigorated the event. There’s talk of basing all 5 stages in Kanchanaburi next year - I’ll definitely be back for number 6!
Tumblr media
Thanks also to Team Cy Cam & the other unknown cyclist that graciously donated a bike to PA after his crash. Fantastic sportsmanship.

Concurrently, in Nonthaburi...
The last final for that day, which turned out to be the most competitive, occurred in the Nonthaburi 1 Challenger, where former World No. 14 Aslan Karatsev, who knocked out Kimmer Coppejans 6-3, 6-1 in another flawless showing in the semifinals, faced second seed Gregoire Barrere, who survived a thriller and saved a match point to defeat qualifier Rei Sakamoto 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(6) in the previous round. This close encounter came down to a few points under pressure, testing their aggression and range consistency at their best while constructing their points.
After 2 consecutive holds, Aslan came up with an intuitive volley to the open court while trying to prevent G. Barrere's forehand pass to secure his latest game point, holding his serves massively to 2-1 right after. Within the next few games, Aslan also fired a forehand winner to secure his 2-point lead, but possible break chance did not materialize since G. Barrere win the next few points to hold 3-3. Somehow, after G. Barrere's service game hold to 6-6 with a successful pass, the tie-breaker became inevitable to conclude the first set.
Initially, a third-shot error from the second seed set up Aslan's earlier mini-break before the latter forced the former's error to hold 3-1 in the tie-breaker, but G. Barrere's backhand pass got Aslan run over to close the gap 3-2, holding his serves to 3-3 after. The mini-break exchange then occurred in the next game as G. Barrere's forehand error caused Aslan's mini-break to 4-3 only to be mini-broken back to 4-4 due to an unforced error. Afterward, Aslan's preceding backhand to G. Barrere's unforced error secured his service game hold to 5-4, but the second seed's third-shot backhand error generated Aslan's set point (6-4). Despite saving one of them, a fourth-shot forehand error from the Frenchman on Aslan's serve converted the latter's set point, taking the first set 7-6(4) to be a set ahead from the title.

Nonthaburi 1 Ch SF: Aslan Karatsev def. Kimmer Coppejans 6-3, 6-1 Match Stats
Tumblr media
📸 ATP official website
A strong day from Aslan in the semifinals, as he once again did not face any break points (for the third time of this tournament). This was thanks to his trademark aggression, where some opportune shots, combined with the balance of hard-hitting and moving forward when needed to, that overwhelmed Kimmer since the start of the match until it limited the latter's options in the most crucial moments. As a result, Kimmer was unable to create or convert any slight chances, while Aslan converted 4 out of his 13 break points as he once again speedrunning to the end of this match.
Besides, it was also another exceptional serving day for Aslan. Despite only scoring 4 aces to Kimmer's 7, he won 92% of his first serve points, 8% short from perfection as he drove the flow in this match. However, Kimmer's follow-ups to his second serves made it more vulnerable, added by his 4 double faults, thus he could only win 46% of his second serve points, 16% lesser than Aslan's 62%.
In his first Challenger-level final since 2020 and his first overall final since 2023, Aslan will face second seed Gregoire Barrere, who knocked out qualifier Rei Sakamoto 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(6) in an epic encounter, where he saved a match point on his serves and sealed it after several match points counting back from the tenth game of the decider. In the former's regard, this could be an intriguing test for his range consistency, as well as some service games, but everything could come down to their shot execution as well in a final that would give 2019-20 vibes. Looks fun!

Aslan started the second set with an early break, scoring a shot winner several points in, including forcing the latest deuce with a working smash, before Kimmer's unforced errors (some of which came from the third shot) confirmed the said break to 1-0. Aslan then held his serves to 2-0, and his aggressive play kept resulting in Kimmer erring his extra shot trying to respond to Aslan's powerful forehand, as evident 2 points into the third game. Eventually, Aslan broke to 3-0 thanks to his preceding forehand to Kimmer's backhand error.
Right after, another defense-to-offense mechanism occurred as Aslan held his serves to 4-0, pulling something close to full-stretch that ended with Kimmer's failed volley. The latter then went on the board with a service game hold to 4-1, but two games later, not only did Aslan's forehand winner equalized the play at the fourth point but also forced the first deuce before finally converting his match point several points later with a backhand return winner to secure his first final since October 2023.

The singles semifinal match in the Nonthaburi 1 Challenger then featured Aslan Karatsev, who previously defeated Enrico Dalla Valle 6-1, 6-1 in another flawless performance, and Kimmer Coppejans, who knocked out Lukas Neumayer 6-3, 6-2 in another straightforward showing back in the quarterfinal. This was a rematch of their 2023 Sanremo Challenger first-round clash, but considering the pretext that both players came back from their respective injuries, this match could also be intriguing in terms of their shot execution, at best.
Interestingly, after Aslan held his serves to 1-0, his aggression started to overwhelm Kimmer until he ran out of options with such rhythm. After Aslan scored a shot winner several points in, Kimmer's margin of error did not help as his third-shot errors toward the end of the game secured Aslan's early break to 2-0, where Aslan's defenses to Kimmer's forehand error consolidated his position to 3-0. Kimmer then followed suit with a service game hold to 3-1.
A game later, Aslan scored a cross-court backhand winner to start the fifth game before he held to 4-1. Since then, he had not looked back, earning his chance to serve for the first set in the ninth game, which he succeeded (6-3) without conceding a point to put himself ahead in this match.

Nonthaburi 1 Ch QF: Aslan Karatsev def. Enrico Dalla Valle 6-1, 6-1 Match Stats
Tumblr media
📸 ATP official website
This match turned out to be a one-way traffic for Aslan, whose aggression left E. Dalla Valle all over the place. Thanks to some defensive mechanisms and powerful groundstrokes, the complete game left the latter less to no options, not even creating or converting a break chance as a result of this domination. In contrast, Aslan generated 5 break points, converting 100% of them at the nearest opportunity possible.
Besides, it was also a decent serving day for Aslan. Even though both players scored 2 aces, Aslan won 76% of his first serve points compared to E. Dalla Valle's 44%, which helped him navigating even the latter's slightest chances. However, despite E. Dalla Valle double-faulting once, he only won 38% of his second serve points, which became evident from his frequent errors.
Aslan went on winning his semifinal match against Kimmer Coppejans 6-3, 6-1 (match report incoming), marking his first overall final since 2023 and for Challenger-level, since 2020. He will face second seed Gregoire Barrere, who knocked out qualifier Rei Sakamoto 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(6) in a classic. This could be a genuine test for the former, especially when it comes to the range consistency, but who knows!
