COVID-19 impact on Syngas Market:
The impact of the COVID-19 outbreak has been unprecedented on a global scale. Also, the syngas market has witnessed slow growth throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, mainly due to the obstruction in supply chain, causing delays in the production of syngas. Contrary to this, syngas industry players such as Linde plc, a multinational chemical firm with German-American roots, are coming forward with their effective strategy implementation. For example, in May 2020, Linde plc, announced that it has started up a syngas production plant in Geismar, Louisiana. Such expansions may further drive the market in the coming years.
Growing Adoption of Syngas in the Chemical Sector to Upsurge the Market Growth
Significantly growing demand for syngas from the chemical industries worldwide is one of the crucial factors for the global market growth. Syngas is majorly utilized to produce synthetic natural gas (SNG), which plays a key role in the marine, rail, and road transport industries in the form of compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG). Also, crucial use of syngas in the fuel gas engines particularly for power supply, improved stability, and low energy cost, may further boost the demand for syngas.
A Higher Initial Investment May Obstruct the Growth of the Global Syngas Market

The company says it reached this goal by opportunities its footprint and scale to make immediate changes throughout the company and its supply chain.
SharkNinja says it met with internal stakeholders to develop a strategic vision for reducing its environmental impact by focusing on three core pillars: 1) packaging; 2) climate and energy; and 3) waste reduction.
“SharkNinja’s commitment to sustainability permeates throughout our company, via both our internal actions and our associate’s personal interests, to ensure we’re doing good for the planet,” Mark Barrocas, company president, says. “We believe our greatest opportunities for impact and increased investment are in the way we design our products and leverage our supply chain—these opportunities are directly linked to our focus on manically eliminating inefficiencies and our innovation pipeline. Ensuring our packaging is easily recyclable is just one of many opportunities we will have to make a meaningful difference in reducing waste and positively impact people’s lives in every home around the world.”
SharkNinja’s packaging changes include using recyclable molded-pulp guards instead of those made from expanded polystyrene; 95 percent postconsumer recycled and recyclable paperboard boxes; and nonpetroleum-based ink (soy-based) on product packaging.
In addition, the company says it is working toward replacing all plastic-based material with sustainable solutions, such as explorations of paper and biodegradable solutions.

Researchers identify cheaper, greener biofuels processing catalyst
Fuels that are produced from nonpetroleum-based biological sources may become greener and more affordable, thanks to research performed at the University of Illinois' Prairie Research Institute that examines the use of a processing catalyst made from palladium metal and bacteria.
Biofuels are made from renewable materials such as plants or algae, and offer an alternative to petroleum-based sources. However, many biofuels are costly to produce because the precursor product, bio-oil, must be processed before it is sent to the refinery to be turned into liquid fuel. Illinois Sustainability Technology Center researcher B.K. Sharma and his co-authors have identified and tested a new processing method.
"Bio-oil forms from the same chemical reaction that forms petroleum," Sharma said. "But what takes millions of years naturally in the ground takes only minutes in the lab using a process that is very similar to pressure cooking."
Published in the journal Fuel, their findings point to a cheaper, more environmentally friendly and renewable catalyst for processing that uses common bacteria and the metal palladium, which can be recovered from waste sources such as discarded electronics, catalytic converters, street sweeper dust and processed sewage.

Alternatives to Water Dust Suppression Nz Methods You Need To Know
Water is generally known and accepted as the best dust suppressant all the world since the old days. However, it dries up fast and may not be the best option in dry areas where the temperatures are too high, and the water itself may not be readily available.
Some of the alternatives to water dust suppression NZ include the following –
Petroleum based binders:
These include cutback asphalt, emulsified asphalts, and Bunker C oil. All these agents suppress dust by coating the particles with thin asphalt layer and thereby increasing the particle mass, which in effect decreases its likelihood of getting airborne. The emulsified asphalt is made by mixing water and asphalt, and the mixture penetrates well the road surface dirt. The dust suppression works well, particularly where asphalt is mixed with about an inch or two of the top soil surface of the area where dust control is required. While they are effective in dust suppression, these products may contaminate the waterways after rains and so they are generally not recommended because they are not safe for the environment.
Organic nonpetroleum dust suppressants:
Good examples of organic nonpetroleum dust suppressants include resins and lignosulfonates. The lignosulfonates are produced from the process of manufacturing paper after extraction of lignin from wood. The lignin itself us natural polymer and has the ability to bind together soil particles. Because lignosulfonates are soluble in water, they can move deeper into or out of the roadway surface after a rainfall. The products also corrosive on aluminum but that effect is reduced when calcium carbonate is applied to the aluminum. That notwithstanding, lignosulfonates work very well with the fine dust which has high plasticity, especially in the dry environment, a good example of such being clay particles.
Electrochemical stabilizers:
Examples of common electrochemical stabilizers used for dust suppression include bentonite, ionic stabilizers and sulfonated petroleum. These work by neutralizing the soils which attract water and allows the forming of bonds between the particles. Although it works well in controlling dust, this option may not be readily available in dust suppression NZ since the electrochemical stabilizers should first be worked on the area where dust suppression is required and special equipment is required for that purpose.

Increased U.S. trade deficit in 2016 illustrates dangers of malign neglect of the dollar
The U.S. Census Bureau reports that the annual U.S. trade deficit in goods and services increased slightly from $500.4 billion in 2015 to $502.3 billion in 2016, an increase of $1.9 billion (0.4 percent). This reflects a $14.4 billion (5.5 percent) decline in the services trade surplus and a $12.5 billion (1.6 percent) decrease in the goods trade deficit. However, the small increase in the overall goods and services trade deficit, and its downward trend over the past decade, mask important structural shifts in U.S. trade.
Falling petroleum prices and rising domestic petroleum production and exports have obscured surging imports of nonpetroleum goods (NPGs) —the vast bulk of which are manufactured products—into the United States since 2013. The trade deficit in NPGs, which has the most impact on workers and communities, has increased sharply. The U.S. trade deficit in petroleum goods declined by $22.7 billion (32.8 percent) in 2016, while the trade deficit in NPGs increased by $16.4 billion (2.5 percent), continuing the sharp run-up in the NPG trade deficit since 2013.
The U.S. trade deficit in NPGs is now at an all-time high (shown with dark blue bars in the figure below) while the overall U.S. balance of trade in goods and services (shown with light blue bars) has fallen sharply from a peak of $761.7 billion in 2006 to $502.3 billion in 2016—obscuring the much larger (and more important) trade deficit in NPGs.
