Recently, I had an odd moment when I suddenly thought Yuuhi was really hot. What? Prior to that, Iâd sort of ignored her; she just wasnât on my radar. But then *whoosh*--that inexplicable moment. I just realized that sheâs stunning in a strange but understated alien-esque way.Â
So I decided to watch Trafalgar (Cosmos 2010). Some very nice moments. The first meeting between Nelson and Emma, in particular, is such a witty, classic moment:
*Nelson is talking politics with Emma's husband* Emma: Captain! Won't you dance with me? Nelson: Lady Hamilton-- Emma: Darling, let me borrow Nelson for a bit~ *Pulls Nelson to dance* Perhaps you're not very good at dancing on land? Nelson: It will be easier than dancing on the waters. Â *Waltz* Emma: My, you're a fine dancer! I was almost deceived by your stiffness. Nelson: How audacious of you, in front of your husband. Emma: Oh, he doesn't mind. Nelson: Interesting. It's like you're flaunting us to him. Emma: It doesnât matter; everyone says weâre a perfect couple. Nelson: Of course. Because you are the perfect couple. Emma: Does it really look like that? Nelson: Yes. Â Â Emma: You may be a genius in the art of war, but you're quite awful at reading people, aren't you? *Dance ends with Emma smiling, Nelson quizzical*

When I Get Home, My Wife Always Pretends to Be Dead
When I Get Home, My Wife Always Pretends to Be Dead   [trailer]
The very descriptive title explains the funny set-up. But at its core it is a more serious exploration of the difficulties how to keep a successful relationship.
The wife's elaborately staged deaths are such a delight to watch. I want to recommend the movie to Michel Gondry. Another comedic highlight is the unexpected arm-wrestling match.
It gets a little too on the nose at the end. But that's okay.
Pleased to learn that "The moon is beautiful, isn't it" here is the Japanese equivalent to "As you wish".
A movie just the way I like it, a serious topic wrapped in many amusing situations. The film should be much more popular.

Such an interesting premise. Â I am so enjoying this show so far. Â Honestly, Â I will probably have to watch it all over again, once Iâm finished.

I am so impressed with the production value of this drama. Â I donât usually gravitate to historicals, but I am in love with Nono Sumika.

Softly - Arisa Hitomi (GRAPH 2016.05)
Part 2 of 3 of Arisa Hitomiâs birthday translations! An interview at a cafe feature.
-First off, your order please!
The seasonal fruits tart looks delicious, but I love caramel, so I think Iâll go with the caramel angel food cake! I havenât really heard of it before, and the âNo.1 in popularityâ tag on the menu did it for me. *laughs* For drink... darjeeling tea, please, hot
-Do you take your tea straight?
Yes! In the past I couldnât drink tea without sugar and milk, but recently, my palate became a little more grown-up *laughs* but I still donât drink coffee, only coffee milk *laughs*
-Apparently, youâve been several times to this cafe before
I have! I have had tea with my classmates a few times, and most recently, all of the Snow Troupe 98ths came here to have dinner together. We often get together with my classmates and go for a meal; this place has a very relaxed atmosphere so we all enjoyed ourselves.
-Your outfit today suits the shopâs mood very much, it has a very understated colour scheme
Usually Iâm all white, black, pink! But since today we are in a cafe, I thought Iâd match the atmosphere with some light hues. I also gave a loose knit a try, theyâre quite fashionable lately *laughs*
-You are also wearing your hair down, much unlike your usual style
In the âRurouni Kenshinâ shinjin kouen, I have the role of Takani Megumi (main actress: Daigo Seshiru), so for the sake of rehearsals, I cut my bangs straight, letting my hair down and hoping I give off a more grown-up vibe. Today I woke up early and carefully curled my bangs and the ends of my hair, but as soon as I stepped out of the house, a strong gust of wind went âwoosh!â... it all got dishevelled in a blink, ahaha *laughs*
[The caramel angel food cake and darjeeling are served]
Waaa, it looks so yummy! See, itâs really doesnât look like a cake you can find anywhere! It comes with ice cream too, Iâm so happy!
-Please, enjoy your cake
Itâs moist but fluffy, with a discreet sweetness. The slight bitterness of the caramel really brings out the taste too! So delicious! I feel revitalised now!
-Do you like sweets?
I love them *laughs* Cakes are a given, but I especially love adzuki, japanese sweets! I love things like the Takarazuka City delicacy âTakara Monakaâ or the ânagamochiâ thatâs very well-known in my home area, Mie Perfecture. Recently, I even consider the type of adzuki, my tastes have become even more eclectic like that *laughs*
-Your japanese sweets always come with hot green tea, as established?
No, actually, I have them with ice tea. *laughs* I donât get restricted by âjapanese should go with japaneseâ kind of rules!! ...letâs say *laughs*. Actually, Iâm extremely sensitive to hot food and beverages, so much that even if itâs steaming slightly, I canât consume it. As we speak right now, Iâm waiting for my tea to cool off *laughs* I know cold beverages are not good for the body, so Iâve gradually come to drink hot ones as well, but I still like cold ones better.
-How do you usually spend your days off?
I donât stay at home much. I start at around 10 in the morning, go for some body maintenance, like for a massage or chiropractic, and then go shopping. I love clothes and earrings. Once I decide âtoday is a shopping dayâ I waltz in and out of shops endlessly *laughs* Ah, even the necklace Iâm wearing right now, I bought it recently; I found it when I was out looking for clothes for todayâs interview, and it was love at first sight! It has a glitter flower, itâs so cute. I bought the matching earrings too.
-Where do you always go shopping?
For Kansai, I go to Umeda. I guess I often go shopping to Sannomiya Kitaguchi or Kobe too, but it feels a little bit too grown-up for me⊠I actually donât really go for tea or lunch on my own. But Iâm hearing Kobe has many wonderful restaurants one can go to alone, so in the near future⊠or maybe in the little more distant future⊠Iâm thinking of giving it a try *laughs* Iâd like to become a proper adult *laughs*
-How about once you return home?
Iâm always watching Takarazuka DVDs. I especially like watching musumeyaku âmusic salonâ performances, so I schedule them like âtoday Iâm going to watch this personâs, tomorrow that personâsâ *laughs*. Iâve always loved sweet and bright musumeyaku such as Ayano Kanami or Nono Sumika, and I often watch their performances, but in this showâs shinjin kouen, my role is Megumi, who is a graceful adult woman. So in order to expand my range, I am watching lots of Toono Asukaâs DVDs. Even when she is playing strong women who are on equal footing with the otokoyaku, she is elegant and complements the otokoyaku even more clearly, she is truly wonderful...It made me think âI want to become like that too!â
-Even on your day off youâre all about Takarazuka
Thatâs not good, I know. About 6 months ago, Souno (Haruto)-san advised me: âYou should clearly distinguish your ON from your OFF time. If you donât, you will only be able to act from a limited point of viewâ. Souno-san also suggested âwhy donât you try meditation?â, and for a moment I didnât understand her and answered âD-do you mean I lack dedication?â[1], she was really exasperated at me *laughs*. But I took her advice to heart. Before I go to bed I imagine that Iâm rearranging everything inside my head in order, one by one, and when I wake up the next morning Iâm much more refreshed! I learned that âletting steam offâ is extremely important.
-Is there anything you are especially into these days?
I really love Disney princesses! Theyâre so lovely and dreamy! I also love music. âNo music, no lifeâ is my motto *laughs* When I wake up in the morning, I always put on some music. Outside of musicals, Disney and Ghibli music, I also listen to Amuro Namie etc. I generally either listen to music or watch Takarazuka, so when my classmates talk about the news, or current trends Iâm often like â?â. âMiho (Arisa) thatâs not good at all you know!â they tell me, and I do realize it myself that theyâre right, so I make a point to check the news on my smartphone.
-If you had a long vacation, where would you like to go?
A trip abroad would be nice, but you know, I also really love the Ise Grand Shrine. It all started when I listened to a song called âHikari no Michi with Shikinamiâ[2] that Ayano-san sang at the Ise Grand Shrineâs Uji Bridge Crossing Opening Ceremony[3]. The Ise Grand Shrineâs very characteristic, completely modest, fair and graceful atmosphere was all there, turned into lyrics; I was so moved. Every time I go back to Mie now, I always make sure to visit Ise. Iâd also go to Kyoto. Snow Troupe puts on a lot of shows set in Japan, so Iâd go shopping for accessories around Yasaka Shrine so often, I had a regular itinerary of shops *laughs*, but I really love it so much, Iâd like to visit it again.
Notes:
[1] Souno said çæł (meditation), Arisa understood èż·è”° (straying off course, comprised of the kanji that mean âto be lostâ, and âto runâ) . Both are pronounced âmeisouâ. Direct translation of her answer is âI do intend to keep running even if Iâm lostâ, but for translation purposes, I went with something that rhymes with âmeditationâ
[2](trans.) âThe Path of Light [link]
[3] ćźæČ»æ©æžĄć§ćŒ (âUjibashi Watari Hajimeshikiâ) The Uji Bridge stretches over the Isuzu River and is part of Ise Grand Shrineâs Inner Shrine. It is rebuilt every 20 years along with the Inner and Outer shrines as part of a Shinto tradition and belief in renewal and rebirth. When the new bridge is complete, this ceremony is held to pray for its sturdiness and open the rebuilt bridge.

The Legend (Hana Shinko) subs
The Legend (Taioushijinki) (2009, Hana, Shinjin Kouen): wtheckzukasubs.tumblr.com/shows
This is already our ninth release!
I confess I only watched the honkouen for this show for me to sub this, and the cut scenes should have been reconsidered, to be honest. Also, each time I rewatch it I interpret the ending differently. I wonder if itâs just me, being terrible at interpreting stuff.
But donât you think this cast is wonderful? We have the besties Daimon and Mayu being frenemies, the official sub for Eritan Maakun being the bad guy, and Nono, who is Mayuâs douki, in the middle of the three! This is a really lovely Hanagumi selection, Iâm sure youâll adore it! No matter how much the deus ex machina makes you laugh time and again.

To the Future: Nonoka Himari
To the Future is a small GRAPH interview of junior actresses. This one was published in the May 2017 issue.
To the Future: Nonoka Himari
Profile Debut Show: Rose of Versailles, April 2013 Nickname: Himari Birthday: January 18 Hometown: Fukuoka, Fukuoka prefecture Blood type: O Offstage thing she's most interested in: I like looking at photos of Disney characters. It's really refreshing.
First Takarazuka show: The 95th class Culture Festival performance. After that I saw Raindrops Fall on Roses/Amour, that is... at the Takarazuka Grand Theatre.
School clubs: I was in the going-home club*!! After school I would go to other lessons every day, such as ballet, piano, English, and swimming.
Motivation for taking TMS entrance exam: When I saw the 95ths' Culture Festival performance, I was really moved by how sparkling everyone was, so I thought 'I want to be on the same stage as them,' and decided to take the entrance exam.
Memories of the debut performance: During the linedance on opening day of our debut performance, everyone was so happy to be on the Takarazuka stage that we were all crying as we were doing the kicks... I'll never forget what I saw that day!!
A role that had a deep impression: Don Juan as a child, from Don Juan. Since I was the child version of Nozomi-san's amazing performance, I went all-out during rehearsals. Nozomi-san taught me many things, and it's a role that had a big impression on me. I have a lot of memories of it.
Senior actresses I admire: Nono Sumika-san and Nozomi Fuuto-san. As a musumeyaku, I think Nono-san's aesthetic onstage, her attitude, and her acting skills are so amazing. I really respect her!! I want to progress day by day so that one day I can be a sweet musumeyaku like Nono-san. As a performer, I really respect everything about Nozomi-san: how she deals with difficulty, her way of thinking during rehearsals, and how much effort she puts in every day. She's a very kind and trustworthy senior actress.
Dream as a performer: I want to get better every day so that I can reach my goal of being a wonderfully complimentary musumeyaku who makes the otokoyaku look more wonderful than ever. Also, I'm not going to spare any effort to become a performer that the audience finds memorable.
*Â âgoing-home clubâ is a term for people in Japanese middle/high schools who do not participate in any clubs and leave immediately after school.
