There was something captivating about the way Atem slept, the way he always looked so peaceful, still as a lake. Even if Yugi could never help but worry. Atem's breathing while he rested was so gentle, so soft Yugi could only barely feel it on the back of his hand. His chest was a better indicator; when Yugi placed his hand over Atem's heart, he could feel the slight rise and fall, as well as the faint thumping below. Atem's eyelids twitched, and Yugi paused, letting his hand rest in place as his soulmate woke up, one slow, bleary blink at a time. With a low, breathy chuckle, Atem laid a hand over Yugi's. "I'm still alive, partner," Atem murmured sleepily, lifting his other hand to rest it on Yugi's cheek, pulling him closer for a kiss. "I'll always wake up, as long as I have you to wake up to. I promise."

A community can banish demons of the subconscious.

In Jute, mental illnesses are generally viewed as demons overwhelming or even taking over a person’s mind by settling in the ��wild”, untamed part of it, their subconscious. This is shared with the indigenous population of Lahan, showing it to be an ancient part of the Proto-Saru-Asuran people, the earliest known ancestors of Coastal and River Juteans, and was later spread to other people on the continent and Jute.

According to it, demons, immaterial and ethereal beings residing between the abstract sphere of ideas and physical world, prey on those who are weak and vulnerable and attach themselves to them, intimidating or subtly controlling them into behavior that chips away or robs them of their lifeforce (nisaif).

Whether demons are simply a natural force, and cause illness the way thunderstorms cause rumbling and flashing, or whether they are conscious beings doing this for their own benefit, varies from culture to culture.

Coastal Jutean descriptions tend towards the former, with demons resembling abstract waves that can crash against the mind like a flood, whereas in most other ones the view usually is more of the former. River Jutean mythology depicts them as humanoid ghost-like beings that are invisible except for the spiritually most trained priests, and make humans do absurd or terrible things for their own amusement, often coming together in groups to point and laugh. In valleys of the highlands on Lahan, demons are solitary and cunning creations of vapor known as Hazers that are breathed in, which has its origin in the toxic psychoactive substance Demon’s Breath emitted by the bluish-purplish Hazer plant growing in local jungles that can cause paranoia and depression.

Where there is widespread agreement on Jute is that it takes a village to help such a person. No one should be left behind to suffer and fight on their own, but rather remain part of the community, continuing their work when possible, resting at home, supported by donations, or having collectively paid treatment as much as the local population can afford it.

In practice, this can sometimes lead to a lack of privacy and behavior that might be seen as overbearing, as it is seen as normal, even expected, that people will inquire into another person’s health if they think something is wrong or heard anything to that effect. Advice and offers usually follow and can be unwarranted or unhelpful, but in general, this kind of community-based healthcare helps those suffering from mental illness to regain their footing, or do it faster. Some communities might have specialists offering their knowledge or specialized skills, like on Lahan this is usually done by priest-monks, but can also be done by nurses, herbalists or cooks.

Suci, The Guide

Jakarta, kota besar yang tak pernah padam berkegiatan hingga macet, tapi selalu saja dikangenin. Kalau pergi main lama dan pulang yang jarang, rasa itu muncul. Ehh, ada sisi lain yang ternyata baru saya ketahui dari pertemuan dengan teman lama, setelah on air di salah satu radio yang kerap mengulik kisah para traveler itu.

Adalah Suci Rifani, menjadi guide kami, para wajah-wajah baru berjalan-jalan bersama di bulan September ini. Wajah baru, karena hitungannya jadi 2 kali kami bertemu. Kamal, Feli, Susan, Fajar dari Iradiojakarta dan Maggi dari HardRockFM. Ada Peter, sepupu Feli.

Suci mengajak kami kuliner dan mengitari seputar Petak 9. Kami mengunjungi Glodok, tempat yang saya tahu hanyalah berupa pasar, tanpa tahu ada apa di sekitarnya. Perjalanan yang membawa kesan buat saya ketika memulainya dari Jalan Kemurnian, depan halte busway Glodok.

Kendaraan mudah serta terjangkau dari tempat saya, naik transjakarta. Janji temu di IRadio, lalu melanjutkan, turun di halte Glodok.

Phoenix dan Patung Penjaga

Dari sekian tempat kuliner yang kami kunjungi dan cicipi, Vihara Dharma Bhakti, merupakan penutup wisata kota kami hari itu. Berada di ujung jalan bercat dinding berwarna kuning serta merah diatasnya. Kontras dengan warna langit biru cerah siang itu.

Jika melihat vihara, yang terbesit adalah dupa, do’a, merah, dewa-dewi dan keemasan. Itu saya, entah kalau teman-teman.

Kami masuk dari pintu samping, dimana terdapat kotak burung-burung di kiri pintu masuk. Kata Suci, burung-burung tersebut dipercaya bisa menghantarkan do’a dan keinginan kita kepada Sang Pencipta.

Begitu masuk, pandangan pertama yang terlihat yakni seorang bapak dan ibu yang memegang dupa, berdo’a di tengah halaman. Sebuah tempat beribadah berada tepat di hadapan dengan jajaran dupa tertanam dalam gentong di kiri.

Mata selanjutnya mengarah pada lampion-lampion merah yang menjadi warna pilihan di vihara ini. Berasa melihat film silat China nih saya 😄

Pada kanan pintu masuk, terdapat lukisan burung phoenix. Dipercaya sebagai lambang kebajikan tinggi dan rahmat, kekuatan dan kemakmuran (yin yang). Burung ini selalu berenkarnasi, serta dapat hidup selama 500-1461 tahun. Phoenix memiliki warna indah pada tubuh, juga bulu panjangnya. Masyarakat Tionghoa lebih mengenalnya dengan nama Fenghuang, pasangan dari naga yang dikonotasikan sebagai jantan.

Ada tebak-tebakan dari Suci tentang dua patung singa yang mengapit tempat beribadah di luar itu. Kedua patung dicat berwarna hitam. Pertanyaannya, mana jantan dan mana betina? Eeeits.. hampir semuanya menjawab sama perihal jantan dan betina di posisi mana.

Mau tahu jawabannya  ngga?? Ikut saya jalan-jalan kesana lagi ayoklah. Nanti dikasih tahu deh. Aahahahahah..

Ruang Merah

Diantara merahnya lampion, ada ruang khusus berdo’a dimana segala pinta dan keinginan dilakukan secara khusyu’.

Ruang berdo’a tidak bisa difoto. Mengingat orang yang beribadah membutuhkan waktu untuk berdo’a.

Feli, Kamal, Magi dan saya, diantar Suci, memasuki ruang do’a. Beberapa patung dewa-dewi terlihat ketika kami melangkah masuk.

Ada tiga tahapan do’a yang harus dilewati sebelum menuju kepada Dewi Kwan Im. Kita juga bisa ikut berdo’a dan meminta dengan melalui dewa-dewi yang ada.

Di tahapan terakhir, ada kotak berisi angka yang harus digoncang agar mengeluarkan satu kayu dengan nomor. Selanjutnya melemparkan dua buah batu.

Jika terbuka atau salah satunya terbuka, artinya do’a kita diterima dan bisa mengambil angka. Tetapi jika keduanya tertutup, artinya do’a kita belum diterima (tersampaikan). Hanya 3 kali lemparan batu saja yang bisa kita lakukan.

Dari 5 orang yang melakukan do’a, hanya Fajar saja yang belum tersampaikan do’a nya. Sedangkan Feli, Kamal, Magi dan Susan, mereka mendapatkan lembaran kertas atas jawaban yang menjadi do’a juga pertanyaan dalam hati 😊🙏

Kisah Vihara

Kalau dikulik, banyak kisah yang terjadi di vihara ini.

Klenteng ini dibangun pertama kali pada tahun 1650 dan dinamakan Kwan Im Teng. Kata Kwan Im Teng kemudian diserap ke dalam Bahasa Indonesia menjadi klenteng.

Sebelum Perang Dunia II, kelenteng ini merupakan salah satu dari empat kelenteng besar yang berada di bawah pengelolaan Kong Koan, selain Kelenteng Kuan Im Tong, Kelenteng Ancol, dan Kelenteng Hian Thian Shang Te.

Merupakan klenteng tertua di Jakarta. Dibangun tahun 1650, seorang  Letnan Tionghoa bernama Kwee Hoen dan dinamakan Kwan Im Teng (觀音亭 , Paviliun Guan Yin). Letaknya di Glodok, sebelah barat daya kota.

Menurut sinolog Claudine Salmon, walau tidak ditemukan buktinya, kelenteng ini kemungkinan terbakar dalam peristiwa pembantaian etnis Tionghoa pada tahun 1740.

Kelenteng dipugar kembali pada tahun 1755 oleh Kapitan Oei Tji-lo dan diberi nama “Kim Tek Ie”.

Selama abad ke-17 tidak ada informasi yang jelas mengenai Kim Tek Ie.

Pada abad ke-18, seiring dengan perkembangan kota yang semakin pesat, Kim Tek Ie dikenal sebagai tempat ibadah masyarakat Tionghoa yang terpenting di Batavia. Setiap pemuja diterima dengan terbuka dan menjadi tempat ibadah yang banyak dikunjungi pejabat-pejabat. Seorang Mayor Tionghoa pernah menyumbangkan dana untuk pemugaran kelenteng.

12 - How many WIP’s do you have in your docs for next year?

i have... five wips in my docs right now! four i've been working on recently, and three of them that i'm more actively working on.

15 - What WIP are you taking into next year with you?

probably just the three in progress ones - overtime, scientific approach, and lost and founf, found and lost. i might come back to the other two wips if i get more inspiration to continue them, but we'll see! (they're both very chill and cute rivalshipping fics, probably one oneshot and one possible au series, so i might still get back around to poking at them again, but it depends on how many brainworms i get for those)

ooohh this is a hard one, i wrote a LOT.

honestly, i think one of my favorite bits might be a section from a chapter draft that actually just never made the cut for overtime? which is a shame, because i did do some pretty good and fun writing in there imo 👀 i might have to reuse some of it as a oneshot... hmmm.

anyway, it's more than just one passage, but fuck it, my city now

Yugi moved like he belonged on the dance floor. Kaiba was captivated, watching him through the lights and the crowd, moving like a fluid, writhing mass. Even with his smaller stature, Kaiba was sure he could have picked him out anywhere. Dressed much differently than he did at the office, this was more familiar; the wider choker was more pronounced, and the darker, more provocative clothes were a stark contrast to the cleaner daytime look with the shirts and slacks and vests. Tight pants clung to his thighs and legs like they might have been tailor made for him - their leather-like look seemed to have some stretch, but the texture looked to be rougher than latex. Despite himself, Kaiba wanted nothing more than to run his hands over it, to feel it for himself. He’d have been lying if he’d said he’d only come there on a whim. As had become the regular routine, he’d kept half an eye on Yugi’s movements, more so than usual now that they were in more direct proximity again - he’d assumed Yugi would simply return to his apartment for the night after their work day ended and stay there, but instead he’d dipped back outside only an hour later, and Kaiba had been too intrigued to let the matter rest. There was a pattern to this, he was pretty sure. Yugi didn’t go out to the club district on his good days, and as often as not, he didn’t go home alone. The nightclub was… really not Kaiba’s scene, but he was well aware it was Yugi’s. This was hardly the first time the surveillance had picked him up in this district of the city, not by a long shot, though this was the first time he’d actually taken the time to come have a look for himself, and it was fascinating. Yugi looked to be a couple of drinks into the night alright, but it didn’t hamper his dancing; if anything, he seemed to relax more between each glass, losing himself in the rhythm and the neon lights obscuring much of the goings-on around them. Kaiba couldn’t stand to just watch for much longer. He walked over to the bar, taking a seat at the counter by where Yugi had gone to get his previous drink, ordering one for himself and another of what Yugi had just had. Before long, Yugi was by the counter again to order another, pausing when a drink was slid in front of him before he could speak up. A moment of dead silence passed, with Yugi staring at the drink in mild confusion, before he connected the dots and looked around to see who had bought it for him, and— froze when his eyes landed on Kaiba, who was still sipping the last drops of his own beer.
