the only thing i want to influence my followers into is starting inadvisable new craft projects, and that’s a promise
god ok a few years back i had this friend who was like. an influencer. like a legitimate instagram influencer. paid promotions from makeup companies type. and we were talking and she was like wait how many tumblr followers do you have and i was like uhhhhhh 4k and she was like ooooo you should start doing advertisements on there get yourself some money. and i just quietly sat with the realization that we were two very, very different people

Happy belated birthday! I spent today doing something you would totally approve of: teaching five elementary school girls (age 7 to 11) to sew scrap fabric flowers by hand, and turn them into brooches or barettes.
This is what we produced today:
Tumblr media
The greatest moment was when two other girls came by to look at what we were making and the original kids started teaching their friends how to make them too! So let's say I successfully tricked a bunch of kids into a new hobby. :-D
i genuinely teared up a little at this. thank you so much for telling me!

Happy Birthday! Here's another for your 'luring people into a new hobby' collection- the start of a hexie quilt (many of them basted while doing a long overdue due South rewatch) using repro calico and antique-esque prints
Tumblr media
a nice start, and thank you!

me, like a month ago: man, wax seals look really fun to play with but I don’t really want to mess around with candles and fancy little spoons
the craft gremlin who lives to torment me: oh haven’t you heard? they make sealing wax sticks that go in a hot glue gun!
me: …shit
me now:
Tumblr media

hello! In pursuit of having more crafting hobbies that are your fault, I've been looking through your blog for a doll pattern that I seem to recall you sharing, but Tumblr search has failed me (no surprise there, really). Any chance you know what I'm talking about and can help a girl out? thanks!
Possibly these?

I said “fuck it, hexagon quilt” this time last year and this is what I ended up with:
Tumblr media
You can do it!
I’m about forty seven seconds away from saying “fuck it,” ignoring every single tutorial and how-to that i’ve seen on the subject, and starting a hexagon quilt with no plan or experience or tools aside from basic-ass hand-sewing equipment and One (1) stencil.
Irons and multiple hexagons and glue sticks are bourgeois extravagance.
(I’m going to make the worst quilt)

You asked for people to show you their crafts, so ...
You successfully tricked me into visible mending through darning and embroidery, and once I ran out of repairs, I got more serious on the embroidery front.
A mermaid bag for toys for my daughter. (I still need to wash out the marker, but 4 year olds don't have patience for that.)

Mending some holes in her clothes.

Sprucing up a plain jean skirt.
Tumblr media
Chickenscratch embroidery on a gingham apron for my nephew, a Christmas present.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also decided to spoil myself by embroidering a peacock tote bag for myself. This one was my longest project so far, but definitely worth its while!
Tumblr media
Embroidery is such a perfect craft for my ADHD brain, I do it mainly during meetings and watching TV, it keeps my hands busy so my brain can focus. Otherwise, I'll start daydreaming during those Teams calls...
i love them!!! that peacock tote in particular is amazing, did you use a pattern or is it your own design?

You've successfully reeled in another one for the crafting quicksand pit! If I'm cutting my own templates for EPP, how thick is my paper, on a scale of newspaper to cereal box?
I think cereal box is a little heavier than you really need? Index card is close to optimal.
also: [delighted cackle]

Sorry you had such a weird shitty anon!!
If you want a different thing to talk about I am currently seam ripping the first skirt I made (started sewing some clothes mid-late 2021?) to fix the mistakes I made and add snap buttons!
Seeing you encourage people with their hobbies made me want to keep going and getting better at my own and I wanted to thank you for that too
Happy Purim!
That’s awesome! Snap buttons are a great idea, because fuck making buttonholes, seriously. and thank you!

You have inspired me to start making clothes for myself :) my only issue is how to go about starting.. ive made plushies before but never clothes, and was wondering where i should look for good dress patterns?? I have something in mind already
Tumblr media
I plan on getting custom printed fabric (with my art) to make it!
I love your design! The color scheme is perfect.
I am probably the wrong person to ask for dress patterns, because I am constitutionally incapable of following a pattern as written? So my advice would be to find or draft a bodice pattern that fits you really well, and then everything else can be added on or modified as needed.

Your posts about sewing your own clothes have convinced me to give it a try too, and now I’m partway through making a REALLY floofy space patterned skirt! I’m very happy with how it’s turning out and I just wanted to send a quick thank you for the inspiration/encouragement
I’m so glad! And I’d love to see how it turns out.
