32/100 A world without gag rules (Un Mundo Sin Mordaza)
The “Gag Rule” is a regulation that prohibits public discussion of a particular matter, limiting and forbidding the raising, consideration or discussion of a particular topics by members of a legislative or decision-making body. In Venezuela, this rule has been effective since Chavez imposed it during his years of presidency.
"Un Mundo Sin Mordaza" (UMSM) is an international non-governmental organization promoting and defending human rights with an emphasis on freedom of expression. Yesterday, its founder Rodrigo Diamanti was detained by the Venezuelan national intelligence service (Sebin), days after their headquarters were raided by the same people. Till this moment, it hasn’t been announced the reasons why Diamanti was detained.

28/100 Running on Empty
PDVSA (Petróleos de Venezuela) is a Venezuelan state-owned oil and natural gas company. Its services extend to exploration, production, refining and exporting oil, as well as exploration and production of natural gas. PDVSA is the only company in the country that distributes and offers gasoline to Venezuelans.
In 2006, PDVSA’s directors, gave workers a choice to either support President Hugo Chávez, or lose their jobs. This changed the company’s image and values. As Rafael Ramírez, the energy minister of Venezuela, said: ”PDVSA is red. Red from top to bottom”, referring to the color used to identify Chavez’s political party. PDVSA continues to hire only supporters of the president, and PDVSA revenue is used to fund political projects.
Recently PDVSA service stations are experiencing fuel shortages all over the country. The main reason being that distribution carriers are complaining about insecurity experienced by the drivers when going through obstruction on the roads built by protesters.

27/100 Resistance Camp Alfredo Sadel
Venezuelan’s are turning to more creative ways to vent their frustration with Nicolas Maduro’s socialist government. Students, who are continuously protesting, are now taking over the streets of Venezuela to the extent that they have built camp sites in areas all over the country. Today, the Alfredo Sadel Plaza strategically located in front of the United Nations headquarters, is one of the sites where more than 200 students are currently living in tents, establishing this park as a “protesters” home base.
Students are vocal with their protests, and are trying to make their voice heard in Venezuela as well as the rest of the world. A student from Universidad Central de Venezuela said: “We want to unite Venezuelans with students who are in this fight”. Another mentioned “We want a UN commission to come and see the human right abuses that are happening”.
Maduro’s National Guard and Poliburata (police department of Baruta) are not taking these protests lightly. Recently, Polibaruta deployed a violent operation to evict all student protesters living in the tents at Plaza Alfredo Sadel. This caused an altercation between the students that were pacifically protesting and the police, leaving wounded victims and landing one of the students in jail.

25/100 Workers Day
May 1st, which is know as “workers day”, is a day designated to celebrate the workers around the world. Sadly, today will be a bittersweet day for Venezuela’s workforce. In a recent publication by the IMF (International Monetary Fund), Venezuela’s unemployment rate went from 9.2% in 2013 to 12% in 2014, making it one of the countries with the highest unemployment rate. Due to today’s falling economy, peoples jobs are continuously threatened, leaving little room for any sort of workers celebration. Just yesterday, Alimentos Polar shut down one of its factories in Maracaibo, putting in question thousands of jobs. The future of Venezuela’s economy is uncertain, but nobody is hopeful. Consequently, in the spirit of today’s “workers day” celebration, Venezuela’s opposition leaders have convened a national protest demanding a change in Venezuela’s economic practices, hoping to bring back the the proposer economic Venezuela we once lived in.
Today, we invite everyone around the world who is able to rightfully celebrate workers day, to hear our prayers and help a falling nation.

23/100 Leopoldo López
Leopoldo López, one of the main leaders of the opposition and a committed fighter for a prosper Venezuela, celebrates his 43rd birthday today in Ramo Verde, a military jail in Venezuela, after being wrongly accused by the government for “inciting violence” in our country.
On February 13th, Venezuela’s Attorney General issued an arrest warrant to Leopoldo López for “murder and terrorist acts”, following anti-government demonstrations that he convened earlier that month. During these protests, the lives of three students were taken by pro-goverment armed forces, and Maduro decided to blame López instead of his allies, for the violence that occurred during those days. After this, in an effort to show that the protesters are open to peaceful dialogue, he decided to surrender to the representatives of the National Guard on February 18th 2014.
"Today, I hand myself in to an injustice justice" - Leopoldo Lopez, Plaza Brión, Venezuela.
Profile: Venezuelan politician and democrat activist. Currently coordinator of “Voluntad Popular”, which is a social movement and political party which promotes peace, prosperity and progress. Committed to construction of an alternative country where all rights are equal for all Venezuelans.
Feliz Cumpleaños Leopoldo! Fuerza Y Fe!

22/100 Can’t stop. Won’t Stop.
Its been 84 days and protesters are still going strong. Even after all of the inhumanities, illegalities and human right violations from part of Nicolas Maduros’ goverment and his national guard puppets, Venezuelan people still demand freedom, justice, safety and a stable economy. It is important that the world notices and help a falling nation.
As a reminder to “President” Nicolás Maduro, as stated by Decree #350 of the Constitution of Venezuela: “The people of Venezuela, true to their republican tradition and their struggle for independence, peace and freedom, shall disown any regime, legislation or authority that violates the values, democratic principles and guarantees or violations upon human rights.”
Venezuelans won’t stop fighting for their rights. Nothing will stop them.
