Planning 1 Greeting Card

Using the Rule of Three, as a guideline for my design I focused on the design notion than arranging things in odd numbers are more visually appealing to the human eye. With three being the magic number I focused on drawing 3 blossom flowers as a 3. 

In the first image I also researched and notes all the greeting card ‘sayings’ that feature on the UK Greeting Cards from their website, as a text I could add to one of the cards. I started to draw and focus on keeping the 3 blossom flowers balanced, and have these flowers around a blossom bud in the centre of the illustration. I think this helped to make the illustration look more symmetrical as well as experimenting with a bit of colour in my sketchbook. My main idea came from  a sketch I did including Cowrie shells, which was inspired by my research from looking at cards and patterns inspired by East African Kangas, such as the image below.

This above image is an example of a classic Kanga motif from Tanzania/Kenya which inspired me to work more with line details and style. I was also very inspired by the illustrated scarf below by artist Noémiah, who uses the rule of 3 and odd numbers for her inner flower motif for the scarf.
