I really want to see Shino interact with the other Hakkenshi. He wouldn't put up with Masanori or Tanetomo's bs. And be visibly disappointed in Yoshito and Nobumuchi. And encouraging but strict towards Yasuyori.

Chapter 14 Prologue Part 4

We start with Barong inching closer and closer to the screen. Saying welcome to the city of Entertainment and they want to give their all to the audience. For this occasion they will wear a mask, what kind of role should they play. The next morning, MC wakes up in their hotel room. He tells them that it’s morning room service. He tells MC that Entertainers are good at invading people’s hearts. He can’t follow MC around all the time while he’s working. If he were to describe the Entertainers, he would say they are pleasant criminals. While they were talking, Christine was right behind Barguest the whole time. She made herself know saying they will do whatever for the audience. She tells them not to worry about her mask, hiding her face is part of her role and she thanks MC for accepting their invitation.

Outside, we see Bael. He said even if the Entertainer do whatever for the audience even if it mean breaking the law. The law is the law. As a prosecutor he can’t let them slide, even if they’re allies or family. It’s time he do his job as the first order of the law of Solomon. Back inside, Christine asked MC what they think of their base. All kinds of entertainment gather here. MC still doesn’t trust them (rightfully so). Christine ask them not to make such a scary face and that they just want to make a game in Tokyo. The current game has continuity and entertainment. The Game Masters are responsible for the continuity part and the Entertainers are responsible for providing entertainment. Christine wants to show the audience something never seen before. Christine starts talking about King Solomon and what does the world look like from their perspective. People with selfish faiths can never understand King Solomon but people are always drawn to those they can’t understand. There isn’t enough drama to show him so they want to do something new. Christine tells MC they are a important actor and to take care of themselves until it’s their turn. Bigfoot returns to take MC around where ever they want.

Outside, we see Nobumichi setting up police blockades around the area. He asked Horus what to do next. Horus tells him to send the remains to forensic. And after that, they will talk to any eye witnesses. If you find any suspicious people, bring them to me. Horus tells Nobumuchi to be careful not to get his body parts chopped off. This Ripper Case is dangerous. Horus sacred artifact can revive all body parts connected and put inside the coffin even if they’re dismembered. This is how his father, Osiris, was revived. After then Horus can use the reanimated person any way he wants. Nobumichi tells him to leave it to him. He’s strong, stronger than his brother Yasuyori. Horus tells that right, only the strong can bring peace. They will create a Utopia that no one has ever created before. After he left, Bael showed up to talk to Horus. Horus thanks Bael for coming. Bael said that Horus is the only world rep in the Rule Makers who treats him seriously. Bael ask him how does the Judicial Police view this incident. There has always been nasty rumor surrounding the Entertainers, including the selling of human body parts. And then there’s the Ripper Case. This is also similar to what happen in Shinjuku. Come to think of it, the body part found then was physically matched with MC’s. Back then the World Reps were in a hurry thinking the trophy was targeted. Even the pillars still don’t know who the culprit or victim is. Mononobe seems to be the only one who knows the truth. Horus said that they still don’t know anything but the Entertainers are hiding something. Bael brings up that Horus was against the Rule Makers forming an alliance with the Entertainers. Horus said him and a few other World Reps were against the idea. But they had to follow the majority vote. If the Entertainers are involved then Horus won’t slow down in his pursuit. Bael thinks that the fact that the World Reps are showing up here could mean this incident may have something to do with the game. After they left we see two new characters.

We cut to the slums, where Rule Makers are arresting anyone related to the Wanderers. A valiant angel is ordering around the new recruits, mobs who are former members of the Missionaries and Tycoons. Another of the new recruits is Kirito. The angel ask Kirito for his background. Kirito just list the guilds he was a part of at one point. The angel ask why Kirito left them, he must’ve done something bad. Kirito said he won’t do anything or rather he can’t do anything in the first place. He a guy that doesn’t have much power anyway, those other guilds destroyed themselves. The recruits are then suddenly attacked by chains, it’s Arc from the Genociders. Arc swore to never stand on the battlefield again. Kirito says “Arc, huh? You’re still alive”. Flashback to CH8 where Arc died. After that flashback, Arc said they heard about Kirito from MC. Kirito ask does that mean Arc joined the Summoners. Arc said no, they are still the Guildmaster of the Genociders. Arc ask Kirito to come back and be a family. Kirito said no they’re not related anymore. Kirito ask why are they so desperate. Kirito says you know about the loops from Babalon. Kirito thinks it would better if they could just quickly get out of Tokyo. Arc tells him that Azathoth and the others still think of you as family. Kirito says it’s admirable but all this entrustment makes him want to vomit. He says doesn’t need a relationship and to never show your face again and he’s sorry for forcing his affection on them. Before Arc can say anything, the Drone fighters mobs appeared. Some time later, Arc is still fighting them but more keep coming. Kursha appeared and tells Arc it’s time to escape. After they left, Kirito is left alone until Isafril shows up. He introduce himself as a employer for the Rule Makers. He tells Kirito he has a job for him involving the Entertainers

For this afternoon, we researched about related work to our topic pressure/self-pressure.

We did not find work that was exactly dealing with this topic, which is quite exciting. We could enter a new, relatively unexplored field here.

In the field of art, we chose the street artist Banksy. What we find remarkable about his work is his sharpness in criticizing social phenomenas. He has a very clear view on pressing topics like pollution and war. He is able to express all this in very simple stencils and we hope to achieve this level of powerful simplicity in our work.

In literature, we chose two essays from the german philosopher and professor for cultural studies Byung-Chul Han. In Crisis of Freedom from his book Psychopolitics: Neoliberalism and New Technologies of Power. he discuss the topic freedom. For him, freedom is a stage between episodes. This episodes themselves are subjugation. What used to be servant and master in the beginning of history and a factory worker in the era of industrialization is now the individual itself. The individual, freed from outer pressure, has become an entrepreneur of itself. This newfound freedom brings new subjugation in the form of self-pressure, self optimization and improvement of performance.

In his book The Burnout Society Han describes the development of our achieving society to a doping society. We are eager to push ourselves beyond our limits. We dope ourselves with energy drinks, coffee and quack remedy to an extreme, where we are not performing anymore but the drugs perform through us. This constant running beyond the limits lead to an "infarct of our soul" and to a burnout society.

These views may be on the extreme side but these texts have opened our eyes and raised awareness for this topic. We are all embedded in our society and our time, that we are blind for these unnatural and extreme change in our society and in ourselves. Especially the invention of the smartphone and thus the blending of work and free time have really pushed this development.

Because there are no design work directly related to our topic, we chose projects that are dealing with a similar topic, inspire us or have an effect that we want to achieve with our project.

This project deals with the influence of the smartphone. The 9-5 workday is becoming a thing of the past. The introduction of the smartphone made a blending of work and life possible. You answer emails in the morning before work and when you are in bed at night.

Warten, Lea, BAE ZHdK, 2018

This is a really great work of Lea, an Art Education student at the ZHdK. It was exibited on 5 April 2018 and deals with waiting. Nine people were filmed waiting an hour in a room with only a table and a chair. A few of them just took a nap, while others were doing pushups, stretching and all sorts of things. What I find most astonishing is that waiting is truly time you have to yourself. Yet most of us feel pressured because of this time "wasted". I can only speak for myself, but I would feel pressured. I would think that I could do something productive, writing this journal for example.

We are so flooded with stimulations from social media, that we cannot be for ourselves anymore without craving for entertainment or do work we think is productive.

Another great work is Peer Pressure from Alice Wang. It consists of several objects. Depicted here are the Fast Typing Keyboard, the Popular Mobile and the Double Sided Headphone.

The keyboard let's you type really fast, so that when you are sitting in your cubicle, your co-workers cannot see but hear you apparently working hard.

The Popular Mobile is a subscription service, that randomly sends you text messages, so that you appear more popular.

And the Double Sided Headphone plays one song inwards for you to listen to and another song outwards, so that people do not know what you are really listening to.

This project is great because it is very simple, yet has a tremendous impact. First seeing it, you will probably smile because of the project being so nifty. On second thought, the project will make you reflect and think about yourself. I was struck, because these object had a significant truth. For example, I really do care what others might think about what I am listening to. 

We hope to be able to make our project as elegant as Alice's work. To convey our message in this simple but sophisticated way would be awesome.

The Edelweiss Series are inspired by "a philosophical fairy tale written by Nobumuchi [...] a tale of birth, rebellion and death, which presents a symbolic vision of a technologically driven society consumed by consumerism" (Troika: Digital by Design. London: Thames & Hudson. 2008. p256.]

The objects of this complex and maybe a little bit strange project remind me of strange apparatuses from an ancient distant world. Things from Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind. Being inspired by this fairy tale of Nobomuchi's, I can feel them embody something (if only I knew what!). I cannot say what exactly, but this work inspires me and stimulates my imagination. I can definitely see us moving down this more artistic approach to a topic. 

The research was most enriching and gives us direction and substance to work with. I look forward to our progression!

MC- Has abandonment issues for some reason and constantly needs to be in the presence of a good friend. The only person who is aware of this is Zao, as he learned the hard way.

Claude- Is the only Berserker besides Ikutoshi that can't drive. It's not because of Snow driving him all the time. It's because Claude is really near sighted and refuses to wear glasses.

Maria- Is somehow just as physically strong as Bohemio and Kurogane for some reason. She hard carries her Guild after all.

Licht- He's a lot closer to the Creators and Summoners Guild since they're more respectful towards him, compared to his Guildmates.

Arc- Is the only human outside of the Summoners who becomes extremely over protective of MC being around certain people who see them as an exile.

Duo- Like Oniwaka, has a huge soft spot for dog transients, mainly Garmr.

Kurogane- Has created a remote to power everything in his house out of boredom and laziness.

Ellie- Refuses to drink blood from a Blood Bank, it made her and Kresnik ill once.

Yuma- Has a strong fear of Furry Conventions despite being a furry, getting attacked by a bunch of people wanting to turn into a werewolf. Yuma isn't a werewolf.

Sanzo- Has commissioned a pillow case with Bohemio and MC's faces also he can practice kissing.

Bohemio- Refuses to use a shovel in Lethal Company, he only uses Stop and Yeild Signs as weapons when playing.

Tuaring- Is in cahoots with Hekate to push Enigma and Tindalos to be a couple. They love the "Enemies to Lovers" trope.

Oscar- Goes into a huge depressive episode if he messes up a live performance himself. Locking himself in his room for half of the week.

Berto- Actually hates the Crafters Guildmaster, because he stole his robotic dog to study once.

Issac- Will hack Gacha games to always get what he wants.

Curren- Is an even bigger hermit than Furufumi is, to a concerning degree. Ame,Nobumuchi, and Hippolytus are the only ones checking up on her and making sure she remembers to eat.

I have a feeling that the remaining two would probably follows the pattern of the previous. One good/neutral and one bad. Thou, I have a feeling that Nobumuchi would probably be the latter and perhaps worse than Masanori

Yeah that's pretty much the case although it is said the rule makers are much more dangerous than the other 2 main guilds, so the two hakkenshi might be just as dangerous as them
