Okay for real though, I ask this with pure curiosity for my own knowledge's sake, how do you get ad revenue from posts like that Halloween costume quiz, or those various shirt company posts? Like, is there a place you go to sign up for stuff like that? Or do people contact you directly? Is there a certain level of popularity your blog needs to hit before you're eligible? I wanna know how this works, for real.

Every sponsor I have had have come to me directly. Tumblr doesn’t show follower counts but my two blogs (itsagifnotagif and justbadpuns) have almost-400k and 500k+ followers respectively. So that is a big audience that can be reached. Depends on the sponsor on how I get paid: the quiz sponsor I get paid per 1,000 clicks around $3 but it fluctuates sometimes is lower and sometimes is higher. T-Shirt posts I get commission from each sale, I get more if it costs more etc.

I have had offers from sponsors I have turned down because they are literally just shit and there have been many over the last few years.

I know they can sometimes be annoying but it helps me sustain myself while travelling and before I started that I have been working full time for 3 years. So as you can probably guess the money isn’t that much compared to the cost you’d get for a sponsor if you had my following on other platforms (YouTube / Instagram etc.) I hope that makes it more clear as I also was confused on how until I got into this position myself!

Ahhh, I love reading poetry aloud, especially humorous poetry. Getting the rhythm, and pauses, and intonation juuuuust right is fun for any of the pieces I podfic, but especially for poetry.

DEFINITELY check the tumblr post - there are great gifs, additional variations in the notes, AND theshitpostcalligrapher got in on it :D :D :D

When I was designing the cover, I was initially searching for images in the evening, when f.lux was on on my laptop. So when I was searching for images of violets, I was all, huh, I guess the folks on tumblr have a point, don’t they? The flowers don’t really look purple, do they.... And then I remembered to temporarily disable f.lux, lol.

Because I am slow to add things on AO3, this one was the last one I worked on. Because I’m a dingbat, I didn’t just post the bit in progress so it would at least be in the collection proper and I could edit it more after, but waited to finish the post, so I finished JUST as the collection closed. That’s why it’s in there as a collection bookmark and not in the collection proper. Oh well, live and learn. :P

An educational post! It prompted me to learn a bit more about the history of purple and other colors, hee :D
