If you aren’t willing to ask kids questions about WHY they’re doing things, and instead would rather assume things about them and then prescribe a solution, you shouldn’t be working with kids tbh
#growing up the only adults I respected were the ones who would make me ask questions#I hated authority figures who just assumed my reasoning for things#and responded to me based on that#I Detested authority figures who made wide sweeping generalizations about us as a whole#when I knew that my classmates and I had complex lives thoughts and experiences#and we weren’t just these objects that were acted upon by outside forces#you Need to be asking kids questions and trusting them to explain with the best of their ability#you can’t just assume things about them based on your supposedly vast understanding of the world#you need to be willing to hear them when they explain the things that have significance to them even if you think it’s bullshit#you can’t just look at Kids as a concept and prescribe your own understanding onto them#you need to be willing to see them as individuals#and you also have to be willing to understanding the general culture of the kids in your life#and to do that you have to ask questions!!#nobody ever understood somebody else’s culture by just watching it and making assumptions
