Oh, when you mentioned frog spawn my mind went brrrr. Imagining the feeling of a womb full of frog spawn the chunky jelly like texture of it making the womb all lumpy. Maybe if you squeezed or caressed the bloated abdomen from the outside you'd be able to feel it like orbes underneath the skin and fat. And when it's time to let them loose that don't come out individually, oh no, frog spawn is chained together so they come out in a long goey string
idk why I haven't answered this, I think about this on a decently regular basis. Imagine normal sized frog eggs, right? Like the eggs are as small as actual frog eggs are, but the person's belly is as big as it would be if they were 9 months pregnant. Imagine how long they'd be in labor with these things! A big goopy mess everywhere. Oh it's really getting me to imagine the person slowly _slowly_ becoming more and more froglike as they're laboring. Which, of course, would become problematic as they got smaller and smaller, and the eggs then start to have difficulty coming out. Their tongue getting longer, fingers webbing, feet getting longer, skin on their throat becoming loose, all while they're still desperately pushing to get these billions of frog eggs out of them.

For the Virus, do the animal embryos appear spontaneously in the womb or does the virus kickstart the ovaries into working overdrive releasing eggs which would then spontaneously develop into various animals?
This is a great question! I imagine both are technically possible, but probably mostly the former. Well, on one hand, since we know most of the babies will be 100% animal, no human DNA, that lends you to believe the embryos are spontaneously appearing, but then... The virus does also change the infected person's body as they progress, to better accommodate the pregnancies, sometimes resulting in full or nearly full animal transformations. Some strains of the virus have a "reset" period between types of animal, where you become completely human again before the next embryo begins to grow. Because of this transformation occurring, it does stand to reason that the infected person's eggs would also be changing. If the eggs are the first to change, this would make a lot of sense... So, when looking at it that way, perhaps it IS the ovaries being kicked into overdrive...

Plenty of other animals give live birth so why limit the virus to mammals. Imagine your water breaking in the shower or something where you've been camped out since the virus had started and you start contracting thinking it's going to be kittens or something and out squeezes a stingray pup from your lips.
Oh yeah no this is awesome. Imagine someone (will use royal 'you' for this person onward) gets infected with the virus and you're expecting mammals and you're in the bathtub, hoping to waterbirth some of them. Imagine that escalating, starting with frogspawn, small fish, escalating in size as you go. You'd realize really fast that the water is where you need to be, and maybe you were compelled to get into the water for that exact reason, maybe the whole thing has been the virus making you want to be submerged. Imagine realizing it's a dolphin. How would you even get that into your bathtub? Imagine having to seek out a larger body of water while you're actively still growing babies and having contractions. Your body growing eventually, as a baby orca grows inside you. imagine how much your body would have to change to accommodate a baby whale.

Imagine a womb full of squirming eels. A dozen or so moving around the amniotic water like it's their own personal pond
This would honestly work with either of my story concepts, but I feel like it was in relation to the "virus" concept specifically? This is insane to think about. Would the person carrying them feel a desire to get into water to birth them? Imagine how much you'd see movement in their stomach. I imagine they'd probably come out decently fast, but what if there were like 20 of them?

If it is the ovaries being kicked into over drive then that probably has serious consequences for fertility down the line considering there's a finite amount of ovaries a human has and if the virus burns through a ton of them that means there's fewer left for when the person might actually want to reproduce
This is a very good point!

What happens to all the animals birthed by the virus? Like I know it's a fetish thing but I still can't expect too many victims of the virus would feel particularly compelled to take care of the animals they birth let alone let them anywhere near their nipples to nurse or something.
And you said it's possible for human babies to occur from the virus? That's a whole nother story. Can you imagine being one of those babies born from the virus? Knowing that you were absolutely unplanned, only exist because your parents caught a disease and have a bunch of animals as siblings? You've built a setting with potentially fascinating social implications once you lift it from being fetish porn for a second lol
I have thought a bit about the first half of this! I imagine zoos internationally would have intake programs for these animals. Once the virus infected enough people and it became a pandemic, I'm sure there would be a massive task force to collect these animals and document cases. Since they're going to be hand-raised by humans, they wouldn't survive in the wild in most cases. The zoos would probably be overjoyed in most cases, because endangered animals would be born again. It's definitely possible for humans to come from the virus! There would probably be a similar program for those babies, but I can't fathom the social implications of being one of those children. In an ideal society, the children of the virus would be taken well care of, and regarded as blessings, special because their lives were created from nothing, and they would be revered as such. Butttt....in a more realistic society, they'd probably get shunned in some social circles. There'd probably be rumors about their capacity for human emotion or some other such horrible human social behaviors that shouldn't exist but unfortunately do. I am writing a series of long-form stories about this, so maybe someday I'll get way more in-depth with it like this!

For your virus you said it's like a 48 hour thing yeah? Are there any side effects or after effects left after it's run its course? I can't imagine giving birth so much to so many creatures in such a short span of time leaves the body unaffected
Oh, I love to imagine this actually. You're finally finished and you're human again, but your ears are really really pointy still, and is that tail still there too? Guess you'd have to wait a few hours and watch to make sure they do change back too...

For your animal birthing virus thing, I'm imagining it starting off with marsupials. Kangaroos are only like 2.5 centimeters long when born so the person might not even notice until the little kangaroo starts climbing up their body looking for a pouch. Like imagine sitting at work and you get a little pinching cramp or something that you just brush off as whatever but then a few minutes later this jelly bean looking thing is climbing up your side looking for a pouch.
What a great idea! Imagine, assuming you've seen other people contract the virus in the news and you know it exists but haven't gotten it yet.... Imagine only realizing you're infected when you see one of the babies climbing up you. You know logically that this must be the virus, but your mind panics, trying to search for any other reason for these creatures to be here. Imagine knowing what you're about to go through just from the sight of that one tiny animal.

Are the cursed animal pregnancies as long as the gestation period of the animal? So if you were pregnant with an elephant, would you be pregnant for 2 years?
In most cases of the virus, I imagine this happens very quickly regardless of which animal, but definitely slightly longer for the bigger animals.
I like to imagine this is a 24-48 hour virus of sorts, but that's the thing about viruses, is that sometimes they mutate and the symptoms change......
So, if you'd prefer to see it taking longer, I'm sure that would be a possibility in that universe as well!
