one thing that's Getting Me Down lately is that i'm apparently (according to the people grading me) a very strong theorist, which is great and everything, that's what they're looking for here, except that it comes at the cost of having no actual periodic or geographic or material focus or interest whatsoever, which makes thinking about dissertation research and actually applying that theory in any meaningful way very very difficult
