Moonlight
the second part/continuation of Sunrise, Sunset!
this boutta get interesting……. it gets kinda messy but don’t worry, it isn’t over yet 🙏🙏🙏 also trevor can’t spell over text to save his life
//
Lamar didn’t sleep that night. He couldn’t. He just kept thinking the whole situation over, trying his hardest to connect the dots. Make some sense of it, or at least find some logical way to deny the truth. Had it always been Franklin? It’s not like Lamar ever had a long term girlfriend, or even a chick he was hung up on like his… friend. How long had he been completely naïve? He felt stupid for not noticing sooner. He didn’t even have anyone to confide in. He obviously couldn’t confide in Frank right now. Shit. How would he face him? Lamar screwed his eyes shut tight. What the fuck was he gonna do? He tried thinking about who to turn to. Michael was obviously a no-go, what with the dynamic those two had. Then he thought about Trevor. Maybe he’d help. Maybe. It wouldn’t hurt to just ask, right?
hey
crazy guy
wut leroy. u need smthn?
uh, yeah
sort of
wut iz it?
some complicated bs again. nothin new.
cant u go 2 frank 4 whtevr prblm ur having
not exactly
can i meet u somewhere private?
wut 4
u tryna fuk me leroy?
loco. no.
jus. meet me @ vanilla unicorn asap
Lamar sighed heavily, starting to wonder if this was gonna be a bad idea to try and talk to him about this. But Trevor was kinda fruity anyway, so at least he wouldn’t judge. His phone buzzed again.
alrdy hear bro
Lamar raced over to the strip club, going through the back entrance. Trevor was sitting on his desk, already waiting for Lamar’s arrival.
“LD! What brings you to my fine establishment at this time?” He stood up, but remained leaning against the desk behind him.
“Listen man, it’s.. it’s serious.”
Trevor’s faced lifted, looking surprised. Or.. whatever concerned looked like by his terms.
“How serious we talkin’ bro?”
“Ion know, just some stupid shit I’ve been tryna wrap my head around.”
“Uhh, elaborate on that?”
“It’s gotta do with Fr-…eaky shit going on with me.”
Trevor squinted at him, like he was trying to read Lamar’s mind.
“Like..?”
“Something to do with love, I think?”
“Oh. Well. Why’d you come to me for help?”
“Because I..” He said, the words deflating in his mouth.
“I think you’re the only person who could understand where I’m coming from?”
“…I’m not reading ya. Just say it, Lamar. Jeez.”
“I think I’m in love with someone.”
A long pause filled the air with tension.
“That it?”
“Well, not exactly.”
“Jesus bro, what is the matter with you right now? You look like you’re gonna faint.”
“It’s, it’s someone we know, alright? There.”
Trevor squinted his eyes again, but not for long. His eyebrows flew to his hairline, and he stood upright from the desk he was perched on.
“Wait a minute…”
Lamar looked down at the ground, embarrassment swirling around in his stomach. He felt like some child that had been yelled at for stealing some candy. He didn’t like it. He was a grown fuckin’ man for crying out loud.
“You don’t mean..”
He stood there, saying nothing and grabbing his arm protectively. The silence was back, lingering for too long.
“I fuckin’ knew it.” Trevor said, almost inaudible.
“Wh.. what?” Lamar spluttered out, looking up.
“I fucking knew it!”
Somehow hearing those words comforted and pissed off Lamar. Obviously Trevor wasn’t planning on judging him for it, but how did he know before him?
“What the fuck you mean you knew?!”
“Oh please, Lamar. You aren’t a very subtle person.”
“I am too!”
“No. You’re not. You’re really not.”
“Tell me. How, how am I not subtle as a motherfucker?”
“Hmm… I can think of a few instances to count, but honestly a perfect example was that conversation we had dropping those cars off for he-who-shall-not-be-named.”
Lamar cocked his head sideways, confused. Trevor shook his head before starting his sentence back up.
“Remember when you ah… inquired about Michael and I? Our past?”
“Yeah, what of it?”
“You compared us to some.. I don’t know, divorced couple or something. Figuring it was romantic?” He averted his gaze, turning pink.
“Well, I mean after the whole rundown of our partnership, I asked you about how you and our boy Frankie met.”
“Mhm..”
“And you gave me some weird, uncomfortable story about you having a threesome with him- Which he apparently wasn’t even apart of to begin with. Didn’t know why he even appeared in that memory, but I guess it sort of makes sense now. It was also the fact you.. uh, deciphered my relationship, and tried to compare it to you and Frank. That’s how I started to catch on.”
“Shit.”
“I mean I… I was in the same boat as you, kid. You were right, y’know.”
“I was?”
“Michael and I… were never perfect. But back then I was,” His voice lowered.
“…Am.” He corrected, voice barely above a whisper. Coughing, he continued.
“In love with him. Or something.”
“Shit, for real?”
“For reals homie. I know what you’re going through. Only difference is Mikey uh.. was a little more repressed than I was. But you didn’t hear it from me.”
Lamar stood in shock, eventually flopping down on the couch.
“What the fuck am I gon’ do, Trevor?”
“Well, I know I’m friends with him but I’m not exactly as close to him as you or Mike. So I can’t exactly say whether or not he’s like Michael in that regard, you know?”
“Fuck, man…”
“Hey.. I uh, I’m sorry if I wasn’t much help. I never really knew how to deal with those feelings towards Mike. It’s like, even harder to manage when you have a bond like that.”
“No, no. I needed this I think.”
“Go home, Lamar. Try to get some rest or something.”
As he got up, he placed a hand on Trevor’s shoulder.
“Thanks.”
For the first time since they met, Trevor gave him a genuine smile. He patted his hand and scooted him out the door. Driving back, he still felt sort of restless. Even if he did sleep, it wasn’t gonna be enough. When he got back home and in his bed, he pulled out his phone.
So you’re back.
yup
i thought about what you said
Wait - really?
yeah. i’m a fuckin idiot
Doesn’t take a psychic to know that.
hey
that’s uncalled for lady
What is it you need? It’s very late you know - is what I said keeping you up?
bingo bitch
and uh yeah, i need to know what the fuck u said to franklin
what does he know?
All I told him was that I saw you at his house - very frequently I might add.
I might’ve mentioned you were there in his old room all the time, in his bed with someone he knew - an older woman, perhaps? He didn’t take it too well.
wait a minute
his auntie? i mean she bad and all but
i never.. like did anything with her. not like that
He thought differently. The implications might’ve been misread - why would you choose his childhood bed for something like that? Shame on you
and i might’ve picked the wrong fuckin person to speak to
lady, what the fuck? i never fucked his auntie!
i wouldn’t do that to him, even if she got a dumptruck ass
You are a strange man Lamar. All I saw was you two in his bed, very, very often.
I wouldn’t have known you felt anything for him had you not contacted me - and even now you still made a pass at her!
all we did was talk! n there’s nothing wrong wit admiring ass.
Whatever you say - oh wait…
I’m seeing something
goddammit
it better be good
I’m seeing you two again - and you’re right. You’re talking… about Franklin?
why else would we be in his room. if i was gon fuck his auntie we would’ve done it in hers or sumn
or in the livin room maybe.
I’m seeing something else now - he’s taken the place of his aunt. Oh. Wow…
what? what is it?
what do u see?
I… completely misinterpreted Franklin’s reading. It seems like it was supposed to be him in her place.
I’m not sure how he read it exactly - my best guess was that it wasn’t the latter.
And seeing as he no longer lived there, the vision got mixed up some how for both of us. You did have some connection to her though - don’t lie. That was most likely the problem.
i mean yeah. i hit on her a couple times
maybe thought it about it once or twice
More than that.
whatever. still, i ain’t do shit to her, ion stoop that low lady
Then I apologize. But I cannot fix this problem for you - you’re going to have to talk things out
Because right now, he’s assuming you’re acting weird because you actually *did* something with his aunt.
Fuck me man
this sucks
ur evil lady, u know that?
Hey, I’m not the one hanging out with his aunt. Now go to bed. I’ll deal with you another time.
hey wait
come back
SERVICE UNAVAILABLE. PLEASE TRY AGAIN LATER.
“God fuckin’ damn it not again!”
He chucked his phone against the wall, and began yelling into his pillow. He wasn’t gonna sleep right at all until he fixed this mess. Fucking psychic lady.
The next morning when Lamar passed by his mirror he audibly gasped. He looked like shit. He looked like he was definitely hiding something. And he knew he couldn’t see Frank today. His phone buzzed and as soon as he glanced down he felt the urge to throw it across the room. Speak of the fuckin’ devil. Franklin was fucking calling him. Taking a deep breath, he hit answer.
“Yo.”
“Hey L. How you feelin’?”
“Better. Thanks.”
“Yeah man. You know what was up wit’ you or…”
“I.. I think it was some sort of stomach bug man. Doin’ alright now tho.”
“Glad to hear.”
“So are you callin’ me for something or-“
“Actually yeah. I wanted to talk to you.”
“N-now?”
“Later. Sunset? That cool wit’ you?”
“Uh yeah, yeah. Heard it’s a full moon.”
“Dope. Been meaning to talk about this for a while anyway, and you always dragging me around to go see the sunrise.”
“Makes sense.” More sense than the shit he was in the middle of.
“See you then?”
“Of course dog.”
Click. Lamar dropped his shoulders, which had grown tense during the duration of the call. He didn’t have a whole lot of time to understand what he was dealing with better. He thought to himself that he couldn’t possibly be gay, because he loved himself some hoes now and then. But at the same time, he couldn’t help but feel the same around Franklin. Women and men… was that possible? Could you be into men AND women? He looked it up on his phone, and found a definition that fit him. Bisexual? That’s a thing? He thought it was just, gay and straight. That you couldn’t be both. But… at least that was accounted for. Putting his phone away, he moved on to the next part of the puzzle. What was he going to do when night time came? He couldn’t straight up tell Franklin. That would ruin everything. But how would he explain that he didn’t fuck his Aunt? He had to have a reason to back it up. Either way, he was screwed.
Night came too quick. Lamar kept pacing his room, not taking his eyes off his phone that rested on his bed. Any minute Frank would call him. Any fucking minute now. He still didn’t have a plan. What was he going to do? The phone lit up, buzzing loudly. Oh no. He practically dove to answer it, feigning a nonchalant tone. It wasn’t very impressive.
“Heyyy Frank. I was waiting for word from you.”
“Hey. I’m on my way, be ready.”
He swallowed the lump in his throat.
“See you in 5 L.”
Even after Frank hung up, he didn’t lower the phone from his ear. Oh shit. Oh shit, oh shit, ohshit. He was panicking now, phone dropping to the floor. Not noticing how long he was standing there, he heard a car pull up, then honk. Oh, shit. He raced out the door clumsily, trying to shove his phone in his pocket. Opening the car door, he was hit with the now overwhelming scent of Franklin. Something along the lines of weed and the same cologne he’d be buying for years. He remembered how Tanisha had gotten it for him back when they first started dating as a gift. The detail only made him more nauseous.
“Hey LD.”
“Hey.”
“Get in homie, I got a good spot for us, real sick view n shit.”
“Ah.. aight.”
The car ride wasn’t entirely awful for Lamar, listening to Collard Greens play loudly through the speakers. Franklin had taken them to some secluded spot near Vespucci beach, where no one would bother them. As they got out of the car, Lamar got a clear view of the sunset. It was even better than a sunrise. They found a bench to sit on, and Lamar felt like there wasn’t enough space between them. Did it magically fucking shrink as soon as they sat down? Shit. He cleared his throat, trying to seem neutral and not like he was internally freaking the fuck out.
“So uh… what’d you need to talk to me about?”
Franklin sighed, and Lamar’s stomach was in knots.
“It’s.. just somethin’ I been thinkin’ about for a while. I really jus’ didn’t know how to bring it up or whatever. But let’s jus’ enjoy the sunset right now.”
In contrast to how every sunrise went, the sunset contained shades of pinks and purples. There were also mixed shades of green, from the combination of yellow and blue clashing together. It was a miraculous sight. Frank was right, why didn’t they see sunsets more often? He watched the light sink down past the water, replaced by moonlight not much later. The two sat in silence, as stars filled the sky. The view had grown darker, but he could see the moonbeam reflect in the calm waves. He turned to Franklin, who had a serene expression on his face. He was blue in the moonlight, and it made Lamar feel all kinds of things he never felt for anyone before. Franklin side-eyed him, sitting upright. Here goes nothing.
“Lamar… I just. I gotta ask. I uh.. heard from someone,” Fucking psychic lady.
“That you uh.. and my.. Denise. My Aunt. Were uh.. you were at my house or something with her?”
Lamar eyes were wide. Franklin looked anywhere but him, clearly uncomfortable bringing the topic up. He kept tripping over his words, not knowing how to ask.
“Are.. and I won’t be mad if you are, but are you… and my Aunt.. Are y’all foolin’ around?” He scrunched his face up getting the words out. He almost looked hurt, like he was betrayed at the thought of it all.
“What?”
“Are you fuckin’ my Auntie or what man?!” He forced out.
“Franklin. What.”
He knew the psychic lady had said he got the wrong idea, but hearing it out loud from him was just mind boggling.
“Jesus Christ Franklin, no. I’m not! Why would you even think that?!”
Now he felt hurt. Did he really think Lamar would do something like that?
“You say shit about her all the fuckin’ time! I don’t even know why, because she’s fuckin’ nuts man! I have heard a million and one remarks about her from yo bitchass self!”
“Yeah but I would never-“
“And in my fuckin’ bed man?! Are you for real?!”
“I’m not fucking her! I never was!”
“That’s not what I fuckin’ heard dog! And don’t think I haven’t noticed how weird you’ve been actin’, all guilty n shit. I knew you were hidin’ shit from me, I jus’ didn’t think it’d be my absolute worst fuckin’ nightmare!”
“Franklin! For fucks sake bro that’s not why I’ve been actin’ so weird!”
“Then tell me, exactly, what the hell your problem is!”
Lamar’s mouth hung open, looking for what the fuck to say.
“Homie. It’s not like that. I’m seriously, seriously not fucking her. I’m… just-”
“What, Lamar?!”
“I think I’m in love.”
Shock covered Franklin’s face. Complete, utter shock. His face then twisted into a furious expression.
“Are you fuckin’ for real right now? You’re not fuckin’ my Aunt, you’re in love with her?! Fuck you man!”
“Wait, no that’s not what was I was implying-“
Franklin shot up from his seat, throwing his hands up.
“You’ve officially lost yo mind dog. You two enjoy each other. I’m fuckin’ out of here bro.”
“Franklin, wait-“
“No, no. I.. I need to go. I need to clear my mind or whatever the fuck, because I am just… unbelievably pissed right now.”
“But I’m not-“
“Save it, LD. I’ll… catch you later. Or something. Bye.”
Franklin walked back to his car, abandoning Lamar. Some how, this was worse than confessing to him. He felt sick to his stomach. How the hell was he gonna fix this mess? He remained seated, watching the water lap at the shore. He needed to fix this. And he knew, although he wish he didn’t have to, that’d he’d have to come clean. He didn’t want to ruin his friendship, and some how still did by just not blurting it out. Soon. Soon, after Franklin was ready to talk to him again. He prayed to a higher being, hoping desperately it’d all work out.

Home for Christmas
Mr. Gold’s Pawn Shop was quiet as he worked carefully on an old pocket watch. He rather enjoyed working on and restoring these old timepieces. There was something satisfying about seeing the hands move and hearing the ticking sound on a watch that was once still and quiet. Just one more adjustment and the job would be done. Raymond Gold looked at the clock on the wall. Just in time. Gold chuckled to himself and set the correct time on the pocket watch. His daily guest would be arriving soon. He might just have enough time to polish the watch before she arrived.
He took the polish and cloth and began cleaning up the watch. He had a nice, velvet lined box to put it in, and he would leave the wrapping up to his customer. This was to be a holiday gift. Storybrooke was full of townsfolk buying gifts and decorating for the winter holidays. He couldn’t believe how the time flew by. A common saying among people, he knew, but it was different this year for him. This year, something had changed. He couldn’t believe his luck, and how much time had gone by since the fortunate moment when his life had taken a turn for the better.
He thought back to that stormy day in early June. It had been six months since Belle French had pushed the door open of his shop and jumped in, the wind blowing in behind her...
The gust of wind pushed at the petite woman, nearly knocking her over as she entered. Belle slammed the door shut with both hands and stood in front of it, dripping wet and trying to pull wet strands of her brown hair out of her eyes. Her light blue rain coat had blown open and the pretty spring dress she wore underneath was soaked. In a mere moment there was a puddle on the floor and she was apologizing profusely for bringing in all the rain water. Gold grabbed a clean and dry towel from the cabinet behind him and went over and handed it to her. He took care not to place his cane on the wet floor, for fear of slipping. “Don’t worry yourself. It’s not a day to be outside!” he reassured her and offered her his arm. She took it with a grateful expression and he led her inside the shop.
“It was lovely before. I was walking on the pier and stopped to talk to someone, and before you knew it the clouds had come in,” she said as she attempted to dry herself off next to the counter. “By the time I came back onto Main Street my umbrella had broken and blown away! Oh look at me, I’m a mess.” Emotion was creeping into her voice. Perhaps she was a bit embarrassed. She needn’t have been. She was always lovely.
“There, there. Come inside the back room. I have more dry towels and you can choose any of the clothes in the shop. Free of charge. I even have a hair dryer in here. I’ll make us some tea and you can ride out the storm in here.”
Before long she had on some dry clothes and dried her hair and was settled in, sitting across the counter from him and sipping her hot tea. “Mmm, I haven’t had Earl Grey in a while,” she said. “Thank you.”
He nodded and sipped his own cup of tea. They made pleasant small talk, and chatted about various goings on in the town.
“You know, I have decided that people have got you all wrong.”
He chuckled. “Oh? Do tell.”
Instead of going on about what the townsfolk thought of him she looked at him with an honest expression and stated, “Well I won’t say what they think, but I think you’re quite kind. Thank you again for helping me out this afternoon.” She reached out and touched his hand lightly.
“It was no trouble.” He couldn’t think of what else to say. She was the one who was being kind by not mentioning what the townsfolk thought of him. Some just thought him cold, others mean, and others were plain afraid of him. He was a landlord to many, and more than a few people would come into the shop to pawn their things. He was never a social butterfly, but he knew he had become cold and distant since Milah moved away and took their son with her. It had been five years and he only saw his son twice a year. He was heartbroken, and lonely, but didn’t think there was anything to be done about it.
Belle changed that notion. The next day she arrived around noon with a picnic basket full of food for lunch that they shared for an hour, before she had to return to the library where she worked. She said it was to thank him for his kindness, but they had a lovely time. He enjoyed her company, and she must have enjoyed his because she arrived with lunch once again the following day. It became a daily occurrence. Every day except Sundays when his shop and the library were closed. She didn’t work on Saturdays yet she arrived for lunch. Sometimes he would provide the food items, and other days she would bring something for them to share.
Part of him didn’t think that she could possibly be interested in him in any other way except in friendship. He was divorced, with a child already, and much older than she was. He was in his late forties while she had just turned 30. He’d walked in on her birthday gathering at Granny’s earlier that year while he was out collecting rent. He was hardly the ideal partner for someone such as herself. Not to mention that he had a bad ankle and wasn’t able to walk without his cane. Meanwhile, she was beautiful, younger, smarter, friendlier, and there were plenty of younger men in town that would be interested. Yet she spent time with him every day, and he felt that there was a good connection between them. It was something he had never quite felt before.
It would take him two months to finally work up the nerve to ask her over for dinner. He was a good cook, and she agreed that she always enjoyed the lunches that he prepared, some of which were leftovers from the night before. She agreed and came over for dinner one evening in August, and it was morning when he drove her home to her apartment above the library. He had gone and opened up his shop in somewhat of a daze, wondering if it had all been a dream. They had been seeing each other ever since. Belle had even taken to calling him her boyfriend. Imagine that?
The little bell above the front door chimed, and there was the person that had so occupied his thoughts these last few months. Belle was holding the door open with her back and pulling in a medium sized soft sided red wagon. She was dressed for the cold, with a woolen grey coat and hat and boots. She pulled the wagon inside and closed the door behind her. Gold felt the gust of cold wind just at that moment and shivered.
“It’s so warm in here! Thank goodness!” she exclaimed as she pulled her hat and gloves off. “I bought us lunch from Grannys, and I have a Christmas wreath for your shop and for the house. I already dropped the others off at the Library and at Grannys. Father sends his regards, by the way. He decorated the wreaths extra pretty this year.” She held one up for his approval. It was decorated with a big red ribbon, little red and green gifts, holly, and frosted pine cones.
“It’s very fine,” he said, and smirked. “However, I very much doubt your father sent his regards.”
She placed the wreath on the side counter and pulled the cart to the side. She grabbed the bag from Grannys and came over to him. “Well it was more like a grumble, followed by your name, followed by a grumble. Maybe a swear word or two.”
“Now that’s more like it,” he responded. Needless to say, her father did not approve.
She came around behind the counter and placed the lunch on top of it. “Well he’s also not happy that I’m staying in Storybrooke and not going with him to visit my aunties in Boston. I’ll be seeing them when they visit in the spring. I’d much rather spend the holidays with you.” She put her arms around his neck. Her coat was freezing.
“You need to take this thing off before it turns me into a popsicle,” he said, and started undoing the buttons of her coat for her.
“Shouldn’t you be used to the cold weather, Mr. Scotsman living in Maine?” she teased as she looked up at him with her blue eyes. He looked back smugly as he undid the buttons.
He helped her take her coat off and draped it around the chair, wasting no time in putting his arms around her and pulling her close. “I do just fine in the cold weather, but I would rather be close to you like this instead of that big old frozen coat.”
“Hey, I happen to like that coat. It was a gift from a very handsome man I know.” She lifted up on her toes and kissed him gently on the lips.
He was caught off guard for a moment because he was the one that had given her that coat. He was always surprised to hear these kinds of words about him. She saw him much differently than he saw himself, that was certain.
“If we continue like this much longer lunch is going to get cold,” she said, in a reluctant tone, and disengaged from his embrace. She started setting out their lunch. “Raymond would you mind if we had brunch at Granny’s tomorrow instead of lunch here?”
“That would be very nice, actually. I look forward to it.” He grinned at her as she set the hot soup in front of him. Perfect for the blustery day.
“Great, I promised Granny and Ruby I would help them decorate early in the morning. Remember I told you how it was my mission this year to help anyone with decorations that needed it? This town is so quaint and beautiful that I think it needs to be as festive as early as possible. It’ll bring in more business for everyone, and it’ll just be lovely! Oh! And I was talking with David Nolan earlier. He was saying how he wished he had some extra help at the animal shelter, to make sure the animals feel cared for and loved this time of year, and he needs help with potential adoptions… Anyway, I told him I would be glad to help. So if you’re ever looking for me in the late afternoons I might be over there helping him.”
She was a whirlwind of excitement this afternoon. “That’s all very kind of you Belle. That’s why everyone loves you, unlike my grumpy self.” He grinned and said it half in jest, but it was true that much of the townsfolk didn’t like him. He didn’t have any real friends.
“Oh stop. You’ve been friendly.”
“Thanks to you it somehow happens at times,” he said with a laugh.
“It does!” she insisted. “David likes you! And Ruby too! She just told me how much more personable you’ve been lately. And Mary Margaret invited us over for the Nolans Christmas Eve party. I hope you’ll want to go with me.”
“Of course,” he reached out and squeezed her hand. “You also said you’d like to help me decorate the house. How does this weekend sound? I’ll close the shop on Saturday. You can spend the weekend with me… if you like.”
She smiled brightly at him. “Yes! On one condition.”
He raised an eyebrow, just as he was filled with joy at her immediate acceptance. They’d never spent a weekend together before.
“We do the same for Christmas and New Year’s weekend. I can’t think of a better way to spend it than cozying up at home with you.”
He was certain he was dreaming, but he nodded in response, because he didn’t trust that words would actually come out of his mouth.
They finished lunch and set out to quickly decorate the shop. She found an old radio and tuned it to a holiday station. They put the wreath on the door, he put the menorah in front of the window, and they placed garland and colored lights around the shop. He also took some time to finish polishing the pocket watch. He handed the watch and the box to her. “What do you think?”
“It looks amazing. Father is going to love it. I’m going to make sure to mention how much care and work you put into it.”
“He’s going to love it because it’s coming from you.” He was pretty sure that it wouldn’t make much of a difference in how the man thought of him.
*****
The next day he arrived at Granny’s for brunch. The wreath Belle had brought for the diner hung on the door as he opened it. There was garland all along the windows, and lights wrapped around the garland. It had the desired festive effect.
He scanned the diner for Belle as he stepped inside. It didn’t take long for him to find her. She was perched on top of a ladder placing lights along the top of the windowsill in the back of the diner. She was laughing at something David Nolan said. David was steadying the ladder and handing her the remainder of the lights. She wobbled slightly and he steadied her more securely by holding onto the ladder and placing a hand at the small of her back.
Raymond Gold felt his entire body tense. At first it was with worry when he saw Belle unsteady on the ladder, and then it was with a twinge of jealousy. He tried to shake it away, but he couldn’t help but feel it. David Nolan was tall, very handsome, very friendly, outgoing, and was with his second wife in less than two years, who was also pregnant with his child. If it wasn’t for that last fact, he would be just the kind of man that Belle should have in her life. She obviously seemed to enjoy his company. They were both smiling and chatting and having a grand time. He had to will himself to move instead of keeping himself standing near the doorway clenching his fists. He was aware that several people, including Granny greeted him, but he said nothing in return. He didn’t even look at them. He kept his eyes on Belle and David as he approached them.
“There!” Belle said, brightly. “All done!” She began an attempt to descend.
“Looks great, Belle!” David said as he reached up to take Belle’s hand.
Before Gold even knew what he was doing he had stepped up to them and placed his cane right on top of David’s foot, and leaned down hard on it.
David shouted and pulled his foot from under the cane. He hopped on one foot for a moment, and Gold took that time to reach out for Belle to take his hand instead. “Oh I’m so sorry, Mr. Nolan. Are you all right?”
Belle hopped down off of the ladder. “Oh no, David.”
David waved his arms at them. “It’s OK. It’s OK. Just my big clumsy feet getting in the way as usual!” He laughed through gritted teeth and Gold smirked in satisfaction.
“Yes, it’s a wonder you’ve had two different women in your life in such a short time…” muttered Gold under his breath.
“Raymond!” Belle chided him, quietly and nudged his ribs. David was busy rubbing his foot and apparently didn’t hear.
“I have some ice if you need it!” Granny called from behind the counter as she served a plate to a customer.
David laughed it off and limped off toward the door. “Don’t worry about it. I’ll see you later, Belle. I have to get to work. Goodbye Mr. Gold.”
“Take care, Mr. Nolan. Again, I’m terribly sorry about your foot.” Gold responded, only half sincere.
“Bye David. See you later. Raymond, why don’t you get us a table while Ruby and I take this ladder to the back.”
“Of course, sweetheart,” Gold smiled to himself and went off to see if their favorite booth was free.
*****
That Friday Belle waited outside the Storybrooke Library with a packed bag for the weekend. Raymond picked her up in his black Cadillac sedan. That evening they made their favorite pasta dish, and once the dishes were in the dishwasher, and the table was cleared, they set out to decorate the house for Christmas. They tackled outdoors first. Bundled up for the cold they went around and placed the lights on the hedges and shrubbery around the house.
“Oh my, it’s cold out there!” Belle exclaimed as they rushed back inside. It took them a little longer than expected and the temperature had dropped significantly once the sun had set. She was dressed warmly enough, but even so she felt chilled. She took off her coat and handed it to Raymond to put away.
Raymond took his own coat off and placed it on the rack. “I’ll make us some tea to warm us up… or hot chocolate?”
“Actually hot chocolate does sound good! I’ll get started on these lights.” She dropped onto the couch and grabbed the first batch. These were to go on the windows inside, and on the tree. She hoped that Raymond would enjoy the house this way. He said he hadn’t bothered to decorate since the last time his son stayed with him for the holidays.
By the time he returned she had untangled two light sets and was onto the third. He placed the tray of hot chocolate and cookies on the table. The cups were steaming and as she expected, he made sure to add the marshmallows. He had said that it was a favorite of his and his son’s. It was something that the three of them had in common, she thought with a smile.
Raymond was about to sit down with her when the phone rang. He sighed audibly. “Who could it be at this time? Excuse me, please.”
“Don’t worry about me. I have cookies.” He grinned and she watched him head back to the kitchen. She loved his smile. She was quite pleased with herself whenever she got him to exercise those dimples.
The hot chocolate was still steaming so she did indeed nibble on a cookie. The lights could wait a little bit. She settled back into the couch and looked around the house. She wondered if there was mistletoe in those boxes to hang up somewhere. Where would the best place be? Catching him off guard might be fun. She pondered this for a bit, and then she heard Raymond laughing gently in the other room. That got her attention and she listened a bit more carefully. She felt a little guilty about trying to make out the conversation, but his tone of voice sounded conspiratorial. This was the second time she had heard him speaking on the phone in this way. Earlier this week she had walked into the shop at lunchtime and overheard the latter part of a conversation. He seemed to hurry off the phone once she arrived as well. He quickly offered that it was a customer, and he looked uncomfortable.
She heard him hang up, and she quickly put down her cookie and picked up her hot chocolate. She took a sip as he walked in.
“Sorry about that,” he said as he sat down next to her. “How’s the hot chocolate?”
“Mmm, it’s good,” she said and licked the chocolate off of her lips. “Who was that on the phone?” She tried to sound innocent, and wasn’t sure if she succeeded.
“Oh! No one important. Just a supplier calling about a part I ordered. The shop was closed so he called here.” He sipped his cup of hot chocolate.
It was a plausible explanation, but his tone of voice… She hated that this worried her, and the unwelcome thought that entered her mind was that perhaps he was speaking to his ex-wife? Could they somehow reconnect? It had been years since the divorce. It couldn’t be possible. Could it?
“Penny for your thoughts,” Raymond said.
“Oh, it’s nothing… just daydreaming,” she didn’t like that she was keeping this feeling from him, but she would surely feel foolish if this was all in her imagination.
“Belle, you can tell me anything you know. Whenever you like,” he said, softly, and the way he looked at her made her suspicions drift away.
She nodded, and leaned into him. “I guess... I guess I had a bit of a feeling that you’ve been keeping something from me. I know it’s silly…”
“Hey… hey,” he said. He placed his cup on the tray and put his warm hand on her cheek. He tilted her head up to look at him and gently pulled her closer. “It isn’t silly… I am keeping something from you.”
She tried to lean back away from him, but he laughed and she looked at him quizzically.
“I’m trying to keep your Christmas present a secret!”
“That was about my Christmas present?”
He laughed, and nodded. “Now don’t you worry, you’ll find out what it is soon enough… that’s if I manage to procure it that is.”
She relaxed in his arms, and he pulled her closer into his embrace. She felt him kiss the top of her head. “I’m sorry I was suspicious.”
“Sweetheart, you have nothing to worry about. I’m quite the boring sort, let me assure you.”
She smiled. “I find you anything but boring. Quite the opposite, actually.” The way he was rubbing her back was taking her mind completely elsewhere. She tugged at his necktie, “Will we be decorating upstairs at all?”
He leaned down and kissed her softly. He tasted of hot chocolate. “I think there’s definitely something we can do upstairs.”
She laughed out loud. “See? I told you. Definitely not boring.”
*****
It was Christmas Eve and he wished he was anywhere but David Nolan’s house. Raymond of course wanted to accompany Belle to the Nolans Christmas Eve party. He just wished David would stay far away from Belle. They had spent nearly every afternoon together at the Animal Shelter for the entire month of December. He visited once, and they had decorated the place, and brought toys and cozy things for the dogs and cats to lay on. Belle said that the animals just needed love, and tried to get as many volunteers to do just that. She had recruited him for that purpose, and he did have a nice time petting dogs and cats for an afternoon.
Raymond just didn’t like how friendly David had gotten with Belle. He called her fairly often with Animal Shelter updates. She was always so happy to hear from him. He tried very hard not to feel jealous. He knew he was probably making it all up in his head, but he couldn’t help it, especially with David’s history and all.
He sipped at his espresso, careful not to spill any on his three piece suit, and surveyed the Nolan’s living room. It was like half the town was jam packed into this house. Archie and Marco were predictably in a jovial conversation. LeRoy and Ruby were having some kind of drinking contest, and had attracted a bit of an audience. Belle, who was dressed in an elegant dark green velvet dress that Gold highly approved of, was talking with Mary Margaret, who was visibly pregnant and glowing. Mary Margaret was a pleasant woman, and seemed the perfect match for David. If he hadn’t been a little jealous and suspicious of David and his friendly relationship with Belle it would be hard to believe that this match between the Nolans would be anything but solid.
Just as he had this thought David signaled something to Belle from across the room. She nodded and gave him a little thumbs up. To make matters worse, this little exchange happened just as Mary Margaret had turned to say hello to Ashley and her toddler Alexandra. Surely, he was imagining things. There was probably an innocent explanation. If he wasn’t driving he’d be finding the scotch right about now.
Belle came over. Somehow she was holding little Alexandra with Ashley following right behind her. “Raymond, we were just talking about taking bets about Mary Margaret’s baby. What do you think? Boy or Girl?”
Raymond went with his first thought. “I’m going to say a girl. Put me down for that.” Belle and Ashley laughed.
“We were thinking the same thing,” Ashley said, and took Alexandra from Belle’s arms. The baby was starting to get fussy. “It’s getting late. Way past her bedtime.”
“You know Raymond, I think I’m about ready to go too. How about you?”
“Yes, I think this coffee is giving me the jitters. I fear I might not be able to sleep tonight.”
“Oh, that might not be such a bad thing.” She winked at him and led him to say their goodbyes to their hosts and a few of the other guests.
*****
When they returned to Raymond’s home on the outskirts of town, they found a wrapped up Christmas gift on the stoop. Belle watched as Raymond picked up the gift. “This is odd who would…” He read the little card on top, “Happy Christmas, signed Moe French.”
Belle was amused by his stunned expression. “Well he was very happy with the gift I gave him. I told him how you took extra care in restoring it.”
They walked inside, and Raymond unwrapped the gift. It was a large poinsettia. He inspected the leaves and pulled apart the stems. He looked at Belle and explained, “Checking for listening devices, or explosives…”
Belle frowned at him. “Give me that! Honestly…” she took the plant from him and placed it next to the Christmas tree.
“Well you can’t blame me,” he said with a shrug.
“I think my father’s grudgingly starting to like you.” She stood back and looked at the tree with the poinsettia next to it and the few presents underneath. “We should take a picture together right here tomorrow morning,” she said. She turned and Raymond had gone to the small bar in the dining room and poured himself a scotch.
“Belle, I need to talk to you about something.” He took a swig of the drink. This sounded ominous. He poured her a glass of scotch as well.
She took the offered drink and had a tiny sip. He motioned for her to come sit with him in the dining room. She was getting worried now.
“I’ve been watching you and David together. You seem to get along very well. All that time at the Animal Shelter and on the phone.”
Belle raised an eyebrow. She didn’t like the sound of this. “He’s a good guy… Raymond, where are you going with this?”
He took another sip, and cleared his throat. “He’s handsome, tall, and all of that, and you’re beautiful…”
“Are you… are you suggesting that we are somehow seeing each other?” she asked, incredulous. Where in the world was this coming from?
His eyes grew wide, but she continued, “Do you honestly believe that I would be having an affair with a married man, whose wife is having his baby, while I’m actually with you?”
Raymond started waving his hands in protest. “No… no, no, not at all!”
“Then what were you saying, Raymond? I mean, I’ve had the thought that you might still have feelings for your ex-wife, but it was silly and fleeting, and I told you when I was feeling insecure…”
“Oh, I assure you, I don’t have feelings for Milah.”
“Fine. What were you getting at about me and David then?” It was her turn to take a swig of the scotch.
Raymond sighed. “Oh Belle, you’re so lovely. You deserve someone more like David. I envy him. We both come from a similar background. We both grew up on a farm, and he became the taller, stronger, handsome, manly type. He’s like a real life Prince Charming. Meanwhile, I got thrown off a horse and injured myself for life. I’m no Prince Charming. I’m more like the town monster, and for some inexplicable reason you are with me. I just think sometimes that I’m just not good enough…”
“Raymond Gold, I have half a mind to grab your gift when it gets here and just go home. What do I need to say or do to convince you that I love you, you silly man. Someone like David is not for me… not for more than friendship. He’s… too bland. I need layers, my love, and you have them.”
He stared at her dumbfounded. She hadn’t said that she loved him before, but it was true, and perhaps this was exactly the time he needed to hear it. However, this didn’t stop her for wanting to make him squirm a bit more for suggesting that she and David were a potential item. “And what about you and those phone calls. Were they really about my present? Is it there under the tree?” She pointed intensely at the tree in the living room.
Raymond breathed a sigh of relief. “Yes, it is. Well there are a few over there, but the one wrapped in gold is the important one.” He got up and took her hand and brought her over to the tree. “Please sit.” She sat down on the couch and waited with a stern expression. She wasn’t terribly angry with him, but she wanted him to stew just a little bit. She understood that he felt a little insecure, but she hoped that she reassured him with her earlier statement.
He handed her the thin box wrapped in gold. “I’m sorry, Belle. Truly. I didn’t mean to upset you. I was being a jealous, insecure idiot.” He sat down next to her, and nudged her with his shoulder. “Forgive me?”
She fought the smile that ended up on her face. “I forgive you.” He kissed her on the cheek and nuzzled her neck.
“I love you too, you know,” he said, quietly in her ear. She felt warm at hearing those words for the first time. He looked into her eyes. “You can open your gift now.”
She unwrapped it, and opened the box to reveal a small picture frame. The photo inside it was of a smiling boy with tousled brown hair in his early teens. It was Raymond’s son Neal. He held up a large book with the title Her Handsome Hero.
“It’s a picture of Neal, and… my favorite book. Oh he looks so happy. I love it, but I’m not sure that I understand completely.”
Raymond took her hand. “Neal has been the one I’ve been talking to on the phone. He’s been helping me get your present. It’s that rare illustrated copy of Her Handsome Hero that you told me about. He found it in New York. We bought it for you, and he’s going to be bringing it to you himself. He’s arriving on New Year’s Eve. His mother finally let him travel on his own. He’s very excited to meet you.”
Belle felt the tears well up in her eyes. “Oh Raymond, but this is wonderful. So wonderful. I can’t wait. Oh may we call him first thing tomorrow morning to thank him and tell him how much I’m looking forward to meeting him?”
Raymond nodded, and hugged her tightly. “I have a feeling we both feel a little bit silly about earlier.” Belle laughed and wiped away her tears. She stood up to prop up the picture frame near the tree. They both sat down and looked at it hand in hand.
At that moment the doorbell rang. “What in the world?” Raymond stood up but Belle pulled him back down.
“I’ll get it. It’s your Christmas gift.”
“They make deliveries at this time of night?”
“Well it’s a special delivery.” She opened the door and pulled in the red wagon she had used earlier in the month. Inside was a large box with green holiday wrapping and an open top. She pulled the cart in front of him. “I think we’re going to be glad that Neal is coming for more than one reason. We might need a little bit of help.”
Raymond stared up at her as she pulled out a furry little black and white puppy. Indeed it was one of the puppies he was playing with at the shelter. She put the puppy in his lap. “Belle… I…”
“I know they say that you shouldn’t give puppies as gifts, but you talk about the sheepdogs you had as a kid with such love. And you seemed to have such a connection with this puppy. David and I kept talking about it, and that’s why he kept calling, by the way. Aaand David was the one that just dropped him off.”
She saw Raymond deflate a bit in realization, but the puppy made him smile immediately after.
“I just had to bring him for you. I filled out all the adoption paperwork. I’ll keep him if you don’t want him, but I can come over as much as you want to help out. Even stay over as much as you want.” She hoped it wasn’t an unwelcome hint. Perhaps it was a bit fast to suggest a permanent living arrangement, but these weekends they had spent together were wonderful, even with tonight’s miscommunication and misunderstanding.
Raymond had the biggest smile she had seen on his face. He was petting the puppy and it was squirming and kissing his chin. “Oh I think he can stay,” he said. He looked up at her. “And you can stay as long as you want.”
“Is forever, OK?” She laughed and flopped onto the couch next to him. They didn’t get much sleep that night, thanks to the puppy, and that was just fine. They had many more holidays to spend together in the future.
The End.

Chapter 2 - A Home-Cooked Meal
“So you didn’t end up kissing him?” Nayeon asked as she sipped her water. Nayeon had come over Saturday afternoon to get the details about everything that happened with Hoseok. The girls were napping, leaving the two of you without distraction.
“No, we didn’t kiss.” You said softly. “I really don’t know why I said that it was the stupidest thing I’ve ever done.”
“No,” Nayeon said. “The stupidest thing you ever did was marry Mr. Wonderful, Weong-Bin.” You both laughed at her joke. “No, but seriously, I don’t think he’s thinking about it as much as you are. Just drop it. There’s always next time.”
“Oh my God, stop.” You sighed, setting your drinking down. “Hoseok and I aren’t dating anymore, what we had is over now. I shouldn’t have said that, and he probably thought it was really weird.” You chuckled to yourself. “I wasn’t the most fun date, either. All I did was bitch and moan about my life and my divorce, while he tried to keep things upbeat with jokes and all the fun things that he did after he transferred. God, it was so awkward.” Nayeon couldn’t help but smile at you. “Not to mention, even if we wanted to….kiss, Min Ja had a nightmare and I had to cut it short anyway to calm her down.” You continued to ramble on after taking a deep breath. “There’s no way Hoseok wants to be involved with someone with two kids. He has too much going on, and he’s young and-“
“Okay, stop,” Nayeon said, giving you a serious look. “Don’t say that until you hear it from Hoseok himself.” You sighed, looking down at your drink as you traced the rim with your thumb. “I’m not saying you’re definitely wrong, because you’re not. He’s young and single, but so are you! You’re still only 26 years old! Don’t automatically give up without at least going out with him a few more times.” Hearing her talk made you smile a bit, and you took another sip of your drink. “I’ll even babysit if you need me too.” Nayeon offered. “You shouldn’t sell yourself short. You deserve to be happy just like anyone else in the world.”
“Thanks, Nayeon…” you said, the both of you reaching out and gripping each other’s hands. “The girls are with their dad Wednesday nights into Thursday, maybe I’ll look into that.”
“There you go!” Nayeon beamed. “Perfect! You have to keep me updated.” With a nod, you got up to discard of the now empty cup, taking Nayeon’s as well.
“I don’t have much else to wear, though. There’s only so many times I can generate nostalgia with that romper.” Nayeon’s eyes sparkled.
“How about when the girls wake up, we go out and shop?” you offered. “There’s a new little store that opened in the strip mall with really cute clothes, I went there with some work friends when it opened up.” Thinking about it for a moment, you nodded, smiling happily.
“That sounds so fun. It’s a beautiful day to take a walk.” Nayeon and you smiled, excited to get some shopping time in with the girls, something that you haven’t done in a while.
When the girls woke up, it took some time to calm them down from being a bit fussy, but once Nayeon mentioned a day trip to the mall, Min Ja jumped out of her bed and raced to her closet.
“Mommy, I want to wear my new pink tutu!” She begged, jumping up and down. You scooped Hyo Bin up in your arms, soothing her as she was still waking up.
“Okay, but you need some tights too.” You said, reaching up into the closet and pulling out a pair of black tights with pink polka dots. Min Ja held them tightly as she searched her dresser for a shirt, pulling out a bright yellow shirt with her favorite character, Pororo, right on the front. She beamed as she held it up for you to see. “You always wear that.”
“But it’s my favorite, Mommy.” Min Ja said.
“I can’t argue with that.” You said, and Min Ja cheered in delight as you gathered an outfit for Hyo Bin.
It was a struggle getting the girls ready, just like always. Normally, if Min Ja wasn’t sobbing about what she wanted to wear, Hyo Bin was just a hassle to dress in general, throwing a fit in the way only toddlers can do. Luckily for you, Min Ja was satisfied pretty quickly, so Nayeon helped her fix her tights and the two went into the living room to wait while you had a mini wrestling match with Hyo Bin. She, no matter what, wanted to be like her big sister, and that included in terms of dress. However, she didn’t have anything resembling the outfit Min Ja wore, so she was put in a red tee-shirt and black leggings. She was kicking as you tried to put on her leggings.
“Mama, tutu! No, Mama, tutu!” She begged, sobbing as you pulled up her leggings.
“We don’t have your tutu anymore, remember, you got it dirty?” you said calmly, holding her leg down to pull up the leggings.
“Tutu, tutu, tutu!” She continued to wail behind her hysteric toddler cried. You groaned as you finally managed to get her outfit completely on. When she realized she was stuck in her new outfit, her wails kept getting louder and louder. She kept trying to kick at your feet, collapsing onto the floor when you stood her upright as she turned her tiny feet towards her next victim: the dresser. Any attempt to talk to her fell on deaf ears, and she continued to scream and cry. You were trying to be calm and reasonable, you were trying so hard. But all you wanted was for her to stop, she did this all the time….You just-
“Cho Hyo Bin, do you want to stay home!?” You shouted. Hyo Bin only cried louder, and you picked her up, standing her upright and staring at her directly, a frown on your face. “Enough, that’s enough! No more crying or you stay home! Auntie Nayeon and Min Ja can go out together and you can sit in your room all day! Do you want that?”
“Noooo, Mamaaaaaaa.” Hyo Bin cried, sniffling. You took a shaky breath as Hyo Bin’s sobs began to stop. She hiccupped a few times, but she rubbed her eyes, which were red and puffy. With your adrenaline calming down as well, you felt a wave of guilt wash over you. God damn it…You knew it was her age that made her act like this, Min Ja was the same way, and you told yourself you wouldn’t allow the tantrums to get to you the second time around. You knew the line between firm and angry, and you feel as if you had just crossed the line for the worst. You pulled Hyo Bin into a hug, kissing her hair as you swallowed a lump in your throat.
“Hyo, Bin, honey…” You said gently. “I’m sorry.” You rubbed her back as her tiny arms wrapped around your neck. “We’ll buy you a pretty new tutu, okay? I promise.” Hyo Bin didn’t respond, she just hugged you tighter as you stood up, keeping her in your arms as you headed out to the living room.
“Was Hyo Bin being bad, Mommy?” Min Ja asked curiously as she stood up off the couch as you watched you emerge from the hallway.
“Hyo Bin was just crying. But she’s okay now…Shall we go then?”
The group of you walked down the streets of Seoul towards the popular strip mall nearby. It was always crowded, either with anxious adults running errands, bored teenagers looking for something to do, or bored adults sitting in the food court for three hours with no food to eat. The mall wasn’t all that big, but it was full of the newest shops and foods and had a little play area for young kids to sit in and play. Of course, that grabbed the girl's attention when you passed by it, and you assured them they could play in it once the shopping was all finished.
The the first store you went into was that new boutique Nayeon was telling you about. It was filled from wall to wall, ceiling to floor, with new clothes. Blouses hung on racks, pants were styled on mannequins, and cheap, yet cute jewelry sat right by the counters, sparkling in hopes it would lure people in enough to purchase it. You glanced around, seeing if there was anything that caught your eye right away, but you didn’t have much luck.
“Okay, Min Ja.” Nayeon said, taking the little girl's hand. “We need to find something that’ll make Mommy look super pretty. Can you do that?” Min Ja’s eyes sparkled, and she nodded in determination.
“Yeah!” You watched girls head off towards one of the racks, leaving you still holding Hyo Bin in your arms. You had no idea where to start, it had been a few months since you went out shopping for yourself. She reached out her tiny hand and pointed towards the rack of springtime dresses.
“Mama, look.” She said. You glanced in her direction.
“Want to look there?” She nodded eagerly. With that decided, you walked over there.
For what felt like hours, you scoured racks to see if anything fit your personal style. There were a few options that you pulled out, and that Min Ja had found. However, when you tried them on, you felt less than beautiful in them. Each outfit was either too tight, too revealing, or just not your style. And that was fair, after all, this was a boutique for young, single women, most of whom were probably childless. This wasn’t meant for a doctor’s office secretary with two young girls, and that’s why nothing looked right on you. You must have tried on about 15 different articles of clothing, each met with a disappointing sigh from you, or an awkward tug of the material before quickly tugging your way out of it. With an hour passing by, you stepped out of the dressing room for the final time, setting the next batch of clothes on a rack.
“Nothing looked right on me.” You said.
“What do you mean? That red shirt with the white stripes and those tight jeans made your figure look great! I still don’t understand why you don’t want it.” Your hand lifted up to rub your arm as you tried to think of an answer.
“My the figure has been reduced to pregnancy fat and stretch marks, Nayeon.” You explained simply. Nayeon sighed.
“Well then we must be looking in different mirrors. Min Ja,” she glanced at your daughter, who sat with her sister waiting patiently. “Didn’t Mommy look pretty in that red shirt?”
“Yeah!” She beamed. “Super pretty, like a princess!”
“See?” Nayeon asked. “Like a princess.” You smiled a bit. “I think you should get it.” Nayeon stood up, walking towards one of the racks and pulled out that outfit again. “Before it’s too late and someone else scoops it up from under you.”
“You think so?” You asked, eyeing the outfit again. “It is really nice, yeah…and it’s not too flashy.” Nayeon smiled as you took the outfit into your hands. It took a moment of self-convincing, and you tried to imagine yourself in the outfit once again. With a nod of determination, you looked at your friend and daughters. “Okay, then I’ll get it.”
Nayeon cheered, clapping her hands in glee as you took the girls with you to pay for the outfit. It was a bit more money then you thought it would be, but since it was the only thing you were planning on buying for yourself, you tried to justify the action as you handed the cashier the necessary amount, and walked out of the store, a cute little pink bag in your clutches. “Okay, Min Ja, Hyo Bin, want to go shopping?” The girls cheered in excitement as you led them to the children’s store that you bought all of their clothes in. The girls entered, and you watched Min Ja hold Hyo Bin’s hand.
“Hold my hand the whole time, Hyo Bin.” She said sternly. “Or else someone bad can take you.” When she saw Hyo Bin’s face drop in confusion, Min Ja grinned confidently. “But they won’t because you’re holding my hand.” Hyo Bin face lit up as she held her sister's hand, and you smiled as you heard Min Ja say those words you have been drilling in her head since she could walk on her own.
“Kay!” She said as they walked together towards a rack of clothes. You and Nayeon followed behind, searching around for different things. There were some cute options, like nice dresses for the springtime, shirts with funny writing and pictures on them, and leggings. The girls loved leggings, so that was basically where most of your money went. You had enough money to get some new clothes for them since you recently had donated a bunch of older or unworn clothes and they had been wearing the same few outfits. So, you went a bit overboard, but what mother doesn’t?
With the girl's different clothes squared away, there was only one thing on the to-do list before it was time to part ways with Nayeon and take the girls home: the play area. Finally able to rest your legs, you collapsed onto a bench inside the little pond-shaped barricade filled with slides and climbing equipment, and set your bags at your feet as you watched the girls run straight towards the plastic, hollowed-out log. Hyo Bin crawled inside, while Min Ja waited for her on the other end, squatting down and encouraging her out of the hole, the duo giggling. Nayeon took a seat beside you and smiled.
“You got a whole new outfit, good job.” She beamed. “Soon, we’ll have your closet filled with the cutest outfits out there, so you look your best on every date.” You chuckled a bit, glancing down at the pink bag nestled between the massive white ones that held the girl's new clothes. A little bit of the red shirt was poking out from the bag for you to see.
“Yeah, I guess so.” Your eyes were glued to the girl's every movement as you spoke, and you saw them run over to the little slides designed to resemble a tree. Hyo Bin went up first, Min Ja trying to help her from behind as a few other kids gathered in a line to wait their turn. “I just hope Hoseok wants to see me again. Even though I was kind of depressing, I had a good time.”
“I’m sure he will.” Nayeon said. “At the very least, he’s too good of a person to just ghost you out of nowhere. You should text him now about Wednesday, see if he is free.” You glanced over at your friend, who moved her eyes towards the girls as they went down the slide, before racing to the back of the line to go again. “I got this.” Pulling your phone out of your pocket, you scanned the contacts for Hoseok’s phone number, pulling up a new message.
“How do I even start it?” You asked. Nayeon gave a playful groan at your current behavior, and it made you frown. “What?”
“Oh my God, it’s like you’re asking him out all over again!” She teased. “Am I in a time loop?”
“Well, I don’t want to seem pushy, we literally just had dinner last night!” You said, pouting.
“….Just say hey.” Nayeon said simply. You nodded, turning back to your phone and doing just that.
Hey~! (Sent 2:30 p.m.)
You didn’t have to wait long, because right as you set your phone on your lap, you hear d it vibrates, and you scooped it up, seeing Hoseok’s name light upon the screen.
Hello again! :D (Sent 2:31 p.m.)
What can I do you for???? :o (Sent 2:31 p.m.)
Well… you paused, pursing your lips as you tried to think of something to say. Then, you continued to type. I was just letting you know that the girls are with their father Wednesday night into Thursday. So if you’re free, I was wondering if you wanted to maybe get together again. (Sent 2:34 p.m.)
There was no immediate reply this time, Hoseok was probably thinking about his schedule. So, you set your phone down and returned your full attention to the girls. Min Ja had found some friends her age to play with, while Hyo Bin was sitting by the hollowed-out log, looking inside of it curiously, as if she had no idea she could see through the other side. You quickly called out to Min Ja that she had about ten minutes left before they had to head home, and Min Ja nodded.
Six of those minutes passed before you got a reply from Hoseok, and you pulled your phone out quicker than you probably should have.
I can totally do that! Yippee~! ^.^ Anything special you want to do? (Sent 2:40 p.m.)
Hmm, that was a good question. Dinner was already done, what else was there to do? A movie? No, too childish. A walk in a park? To plain. Dinner and a movie? No…
“What should we do together?” you asked Nayeon curiously. Nayeon pressed her finger to her chin in intense thought before she gave you an answer.
“Why don’t you cook him something?” she asked.
“Cook him something?”
“Yeah. You used to cook for him in our dorm all the time, didn’t you?”
“Well, yeah…” You said. “Do you think he’ll want to come over?”
“The two of you alone with some wine and food? Absolutely.” She smiled a bit. “Besides, you spent all your date money today.” She motioned to the bags by your legs. After a moment thinking it over, you nodded and opened the messages again.
I know we just ate dinner but I don’t have much to go anywhere right now. If you want, I can always cook at home for you. (Sent 2:43 P.m.)
No reply just yet. Setting your phone in your pocket, you stood up and called the girls over. Min Ja was reluctant at first, but she said goodbye to her temporary best friends and hurried to you. Nayeon scooped Hyo Bin up in her arms, and with everyone accounted for, you all headed home.
Hoseok texted you back right as you guys returned home. Nayeon had said goodbye at the mall, wishing you luck with date planning before making her way to the train station, while you led your girls home. You got the notification as you opened the door to the apartment, allowing your daughters to hurry inside and make their way to their room to play. When you opened the message, you smiled.
COOKING?! Aaaaaa, it’s been so long since I’ve had your cooking! *(^o^)* I would love that! I’ll bring dessert! (Sent 3:15 p.m.)
You smiled happily as you sent him a quick confirmation text, and set your phone in your pocket as you headed into the girl's room. Watching them play, you took this chance to go through all of their stuff and put their new clothes in the dresser and closet. Wednesday nights and every other weekend were times that you dreaded. They were the times your girls weren’t home, and you always got lonely. But knowing that this date with Hoseok was coming up, it made the day feel less like a tug at the heartstrings.
All you needed to do now, was thinking of what you were going to cook.
-------
“Okay, girls,” You hummed, diverting your attention between both of them as the three of you sat in the bedroom. You were helping the girls fix up their outfits and pack their overnight bags. It was already 6, and you had only been with the girls today for about an hour, rushing to get bags packed and tummies semi-full. “Daddy will be here in thirty minutes, so let’s get everything packed.”
“Mommy, can I bring Bora?” She asked, holding her elephant tightly in her hands.
“Yes honey.” You were stuffing Hyo Bin’s favorite bedtime book in her bag, along with her doll, and an extra change of clothes for her. “Put her in your bag, and don’t forget to pick a book for Daddy to read to you tonight.” Min Ja hurried to the tiny bookshelf, pulling one out and returning to her bag, stuffing it in as best as she could. When you saw that she wasn’t fitting it in well, you offered a hand, and carefully put the book away. “Okay, it looks like everything is done.”
“Hungry.” Hyo Bin said, her stomach making gentle grumbles. “I hungry.”
“I know, honey. You’ll get dinner with Daddy. Let’s go have a snack.” You grabbed the girl’s bags, tossing them onto the couch as you led the girls into the living room. With them sitting and watching TV, you put some dry cereal in little bowls and passed them to him. Checking the clock, you saw that Weong-Bin would be there soon, at 6:30. Then, Hoseok would be there at 7. With little time in between, you were already preparing the necessary ingredients for your dinner tonight, the smell making your stomach growl as you thought about it. You had bought a bottle of wine, the bottle resting on the counter out of reach of the girls. As you were focused on your preparation, you heard a knock at the door.
“DADDY!” You heard Min Ja cry out. You turned to see her get up and rush to the door, her hands going up to reach the knob. You walked to Hyo Bin, who lifted her hands up to you as she begged to be lifted, and you did so before following Min Ja to the door. Opening the door, you took a deep breath and saw Weong-Bin standing in front of you. Still, in his button-up shirt and slacks, he stood with a hand in his pocket and his briefcase at his side. Weong-Bin worked as a successful electronics company as an intern right after you both got married, and he’s been rising through the ranks ever since. His sociable and convincing personality, not to mention his good-looks, consisting of short black hair, piercing brown eyes, and his tall, well-built stature, made him very popular with the people he came across. That personality was what made you fell for him in the first place, but it was also the reason you were desperate to leave him a year and a half ago.
You watched as Weong-Bin knelt down to take his oldest daughter into his arms, peppering her cheeks with playful kisses as she squealed in delight.
“Hey, baby girl. Ready for tonight?”
“Yeah!” She said happily. Weong-Bin set her down, instructing her to get the bags, and she was eager to please, fleeing into the living room. Weong-Bin leaned in to give Hyo Bin a kiss, she giddily reaching out as he took her from you. You tucked hair behind your ear as he leaned in and gave him a simple greeting, the both of you sharing a brief and strictly platonic kiss on the cheek.
“I didn’t have time to make them anything.” You said as he stepped into the apartment and slid off his shoes.
“That’s fine. Sooyeon and I are going to take them to dinner anyway.” He glanced into the living room as he saw Min Ja making sure she had all her stuff in her bag. As his eyes raised into the living room, he saw the spread of prepared vegetables and the bottle of wine poking into view just barely. “You having company tonight?” he asked, looking at you with a raised eyebrow. “Since when did you have friends?”
“I have plenty of friends.” You crossed your arms simply. Weong-Bin stared at you for a moment as Hyo Bin reached for Min Ja to give her bag to her from up in his arms. You checked the time. It was 6:45, and Hoseok was probably on his way over. You fixed your jeans as you shifted awkwardly in your place.
“That why you’re dressed like this?” he frowned, motioning to the curve exposing jeans you had on, and the simple, yet elegant, way you curled your hair and tugged some of it up into a ponytail.
“And what is that supposed to mean?” you asked. “They’re jeans.”
“Yeah, tight low-rise jeans. Normally you never wear jeans that show you off…like that.” He motions to you. “They show off the love handles.” You quickly used your hands to cover your hips as Weong-Bin laughed. “I’m kidding….obviously. You look good.” He hummed.
“Just remember to take them to daycare tomorrow morning.” You said simply, opening the door. You lowered yourself to your daughter’s level and kissed Min Ja goodbye. “Be good for Daddy, okay? I’ll call you before bedtime.”
“Okay.” She said happily, her hands wrapping around you as you gave her a tight hug. You stood up, kissing Hyo Bin as well, before looking at Weong-Bin one last time. He flashed a slight smile, before taking Min Ja’s hand and leading her out of the apartment. “Bye, Mommy!” Min Ja called.
“Bye, Mama!” Hyo Bin shouted as well, her tiny plump hand flapping vigorously as she looked at you. You rested against the door frame as you waved them off.
“Bye, girls. I love you~.” You cooed. You watched Weong-Bin ask Min Ja about dance all the way into the elevator, distant chatter of her upcoming dance recital set making her eyes sparkle as she told him all the details. When the elevator doors closed behind them, you took a deep breath and closed the door behind you, locking it. Stepping back into the apartment, you walked past the mirror and stopped to look at yourself. Your hands lifted up to your shirt, lifting it from being tucked inside your jeans and exposing your belly. One hand reached down and gripped your sides just slightly, seeing some extra skin mush between your fingers. “…Do I really have love handles?” you mumbled softly to yourself. After staring at yourself for just a moment longer, you realized the answer was probably one you didn’t want to hear. So, tucking your shirt back into your jeans, you made your way into the kitchen to finish preparing for Hoseok’s arrival.
When 7 hit, you waited anxiously for Hoseok to arrive. Dinner was prepared, set on the table and covered to keep the heat from getting out. The wine, along with two wine glasses was set on the table, and you walked past it, moving the bottle over just a little bit to make sure it was placed just right and able to be seen. As you fixed the table, a loud knock was heard at your door. Gulping, you stood up, walking towards the door as you fixed your shirt in the mirror.
“Coming!” You called, stopping to take one last glance in the mirror. It took a moment, but you ran a hand through your hair. This was the best you were going to get, so it would have to do. As you walked to the door, you unlocked and opened it to reveal Hoseok. He was dressed casually as well, with a black shirt and a beige jacket with jeans and a hat. It seemed he was clutching a plastic bag, most likely the dessert he offered to buy. He smiled as he lifted a hand from his pocket as you both quickly embraced in a hug.
“Hey.” He said happily. “Hope I’m not early.”
“Early? No, you’re right on time. I just finished cooking. Come on in.” Hoseok smiled as you motioned him inside, closing the door behind you. “I hope you’re hungry. I made some kimchi chicken and bacon fried rice.” You motioned to the spread of food on the table.
“Ooooo~!” Hoseok’s eyes lit up, clasping his hands together in glee. “Awesome!” He hummed as the two of you walked to the table. He smiled, pulling the chair out and motioning to you. “Ladies first~.” He cooed.
“As gentlemanly as ever, I see.” You chuckled, sitting in the seat as he pushed you in, a playful smile decorating his face. He took the seat across from you and clasped his hands together. You got up to remove the covers from the food, exposing the rice, vegetables, and the kimchi chicken and bacon. “I really hope you like it.” You said happily, a smile forming on your lips as you saw Hoseok’s eyes sparkle once again.
“Woooah! This looks incredible!” He beamed, grabbing his chopsticks. He gave a quick thanks, looking eager to jump in. Just as he was about to, he glanced at you. “We’re good to eat, right?” You laughed a bit, nodding as you watched him grin. He let out a little squeal of delight as he took some onto his plate, and you reached in with your chopsticks to do the same. As Hoseok put a bite in his mouth, and he looked at you. “You’re still such a good cook!” He said in awe after swallowing his bite. “Just as delicious as ever!”
“Oh stop.” You mumbled, your face turning red as you put another bite in your mouth.
“I’m serious!” He assured. “I always thought you made the best kimchi around! Do you know how many times I was tempted to track you down just to ask you to make me some?”
“How many times?” you smiled.
“A lot!” You laughed, lifting your hand to cover your mouth to cover it and muffle the laughter. “Hm? Why are you laughing? It’s true!” He pouted a bit.
-----
“Min Ja do you know any of Mommy’s friends?” Weong-Bin asked curiously. He was laying in Min Ja’s bed with her, holding her favorite book in his hands. They had just finished reading a story to Hyo Bin and setting her down to bed, and now it was Min Ja’s turn. Min Ja glanced up at her father curiously.
“There’s Auntie Nayeon…and Uncle Tae…and uhm….Mr. Hobi and Mr. Jimin.”
“Your ballet teacher?” Min Ja nodded. “And who is this Mr. Hobi?”
“He teaches dance too. But not me. He’s funny to dance with.” She giggled. “Yuna babysat us so they could go out. But…” her lips formed a tight pout as she looked up at her dad. “Can I tell you something super secret?”
“Of course, honey.” Weong-Bin raised his eyebrow. Min Ja scooted herself up a bit so that she was by his ear. Leaning in close, she cupped her hand over his ear and her mouth.
“Yuna said Mommy went on a date with Mr. Hobi.” Weong-Bin looked at Min Ja as she snuggled herself back into place. “But she said to keep it a secret because it would make Mommy shy…” she giggled. Weong-Bin pursed his lips together in a tight frown. “Mommy looked so pretty, too.”
“I’m sure she did, honey.” He said softly, glancing down at her.
“Can we keep reading the story now?” She asked. He glanced down at her, seeing her hold the story tightly in her hands. He nodded, smiling as he planted a kiss in her hair.
“Of course.” Min Ja nuzzled close to him as he looked back down and continued reading the bedtime story, before watching her fall asleep and tucking her into bed. As he watched his daughters sleep peacefully, he closed the door behind him and headed to his shared bedroom. Stuffing his hands in his pockets, he clicked his tongue in annoyance.
“A date, huh?”

os novel ending (complete)
If we’re fated to meet again, then you’ll catch me, and we’ll see each other again in prison. If we aren’t, and I’m lucky, then this is goodbye.
p. 325 - 330 of the OS novel aka the ending, as i promised earlier in my ask for @greenjudy. as you’ll soon see, it differs heavily from the events of the drama — as far as i know, this is the original ending to the screenplay. you might have seen the first few paragraphs in my previous post, already, but the rest is fresh. i also skipped like a few paragraphs in the middle where they flashback to all the deaths of the case 6 victims just because it’s nothing new and frankly kind of confusing where it’s suddenly inserted rip.
you’ll probably immediately see some reasons why i didn’t like the ending (and the novel in general) compared to the drama’s take on it — you’ll also notice the interesting tendency of chinese novels to hop back and forth wildly between pov’s. i’ve already edited it a bit for the sake of clarity, as chinese novels tend to not insert paragraph breaks when a new character talks / thinks (or at least this author does), so you’ll get pov shifts or flashbacks in the middle of a paragraph with no warning.
The car window rolled down as Lu Li directed his order at Driver Wang. “Get out of the car.”
“You again?” Upon seeing Lu Li, Driver Wang’s surprise was clear.
“Get out of the car,” Lu Li ordered, again. Driver Wang got out of the car, and Lu Li prepared to pull out his knife — but just as he did, the car’s back window rolled down, revealing a gun aimed directly at him.
“Who ordered you to kill him?” It was Chi Zhen, sitting in the car’s backseat.
“It has nothing to do with you,” Lu Li replied, gruffly. Chi Zhen pointed the gun at Lu Li’s chest, gesturing for him to fish out the knife from his breast pocket. Lu Li had no choice but to comply, taking out the tactical knife from his jacket. Upon seeing the glint of the blade, the color drained from Driver Wang’s face in fear.
“Aren’t you a cop?” he asked, nervously.
Chi Zhen’s voice was cold when he spoke. “You didn’t want to kill him. You just wanted to stab him once or twice, to prove that you’d tried. You’re not like your father. You’re not a killer. Put the knife down.”
Lu Li didn’t move, continuing to aim his knife at Driver Wang. Chi Zhen curled his lips, continuing. “Fine — then stab him. Even better, kill him — then I’ll arrest you on the spot.”
“That’s fine,” Lu Li said, gaze turning to rest on Chi Zhen.
Chi Zhen didn’t even acknowledge his reply. “What are you thinking?! I’ve already made up my mind to help you with Wu Wenxuan’s case — just who are you working for?”
Lu Li stared at the blade in his hands as he spoke. “I just need to get blood on my hands. Who I kill doesn’t matter: if not him, then I’ll kill you.”
Chi Zhen understood immediately, nodding. It was no wonder, then — saying this kind of thing* and shadowing Driver Wang around. But something still seemed off. “So it was Director Dong, after all. Then why don’t you kill him? Like you said, you just need blood on your hands, regardless of who it is.”
Lu Li shook his head. “He has my entire family at his mercy.”
The two of them refused to budge, locked in a stalemate — until Wu Wenxuan’s car pulled up. Lu Li was stunned, barely able to get out a question to Chi Zhen: “Did you call Wu Wenxuan here?”
Chi Zhen didn’t understand why she’d come either, only shaking his head in reply. As Mr. Hu and Wu Wenxuan got out of the car, Lu Li asked her, “How did you get out [of jail]?”
Wu Wenxuan shook her head — she wasn’t sure herself. It was Hu who ended up replying, instead. “A bribe, here and there. After all, it was you who told me this morning that she was pregnant — so we can’t go through with our original plan anymore.”
“What original plan?” Lu Li asked, confused — after all, he hadn’t had any plans with Hu at all. Lu Li shook his head at Chi Zhen, expressing that he really didn’t know.
At that moment, Hu suddenly pulled out a knife, plunging it into Driver Wang’s chest in one stroke. Fresh blood sprayed from the wound, and Driver Wang’s breath stuttered to a stop with almost no struggle — and the blade that protruded from his body was an SOG, the murder weapon.
Hu wiped the blood from his hands as he explained to Lu Li. “The original plan was that I would kill three of them, you’d kill the fourth, and Wu Wenxuan would go to prison for it. But that won’t work, now — she’s carrying my child, and there’s no way I’d let my child be born in a prison.”
“You were the one who killed Principal Lin and the others — why?” Chi Zhen couldn’t understand. Hu had nothing but money: just his art collection alone was worth four or five million, and he lived in a lavish house, even taking his wife and step-daughter to Switzerland to ski in their spare time. Why would he do something like commit murder? What grudge could he possibly have against Principal Lin and the other victims?
Lu Li, on the other hand, understood: “You’re working for Director Dong.” He looked over at Wu Wenxuan’s car, asking, “Is he in there?”
Hu gestured with a hand, and just as Lu Li had predicted, Director Dong stepped out of the car.
In order to subdue Lu Li, the trap Director Dong had laid had begun with Wu Wenxuan. He’d showed Hu the pictures of the 2012 crime scene, telling him the full story — but Hu hadn’t believed it. In any case, that had been the least of Hu’s worries: in his three years of being a high-ranked official, Hu had embezzled almost twenty million, and the evidence rested in Dong’s hands. Even if he served a year in prison for every million, he’d still be locked away for almost twenty years.
All the evidence for both incidents rested in Dong’s hands — so all Hu could do was follow his orders. Dong had told Hu to divorce Wu Wenxuan, in order to have enough time to complete his preparations. Principal Lin had never destroyed Wu Wenxuan’s exam, making it easy for it to be stolen out from under her. On the bus, Hu had pulled on medical gloves — the kind the nurses used — and stabbed Principal Lin to death.
Once Lu Li’s suspicion landed on Wu Wenxuan, things became easier. Wu Wenxuan knew that these events had something to do with her, and wanted to warn Nurse Zhang and Auntie Zhao to be more careful. When she went to visit them, Hu shadowed her.
Even Wu Wenxuan’s closest friend, Zhang Xinling, who’d protected her for all these years, harbored a shred of suspicion that it had really been Wu Wenxuan who’d killed Principal Lin.
[ book goes through the flashback of hu killing all the victims, nothing new here and i’m too lazy to transcribe all of it ]
Chi Zhen looked at Driver Wang’s body, laying there in a pool of blood, as he asked Director Dong, “Just to reopen Wu Wenxuan’s case, you killed four people — was it really worth it?”
Director Dong laughed. “If it was my life on the line, it wouldn’t have been — but giving up other people’s lives? Of course it was worth it. And, what I got in return was Lu Li: with blood on his hands and a stain on his name, I can finally serve as police chief in peace.”
Chi Zhen aimed his gun at Director Dong, who laughed again. “You still know how to aim a gun? It was me who brought you into the force, in order to help me, but you ended up meddling until we all had to tear into each other like this — was that the right thing to do? Couldn’t we have just got along peacefully?”
Dong tugged Wu Wenxuan over to him, pointing his gun at her temple. “Sergeant Lu, make Chi Zhen drop his gun.”
Lu Li looked at Chi Zhen, who turned his gun around to point at Lu Li — but Lu Li had undergone four years of police academy training, coming out as the top of his class. Lu Li threw the M7 blade in his hand off to the side, grabbing Chi Zhen’s wrist and striking Chi Zhen’s arm with his elbow — in an instant, Chi Zhen’s arm went numb. The gun in his hand slipped out of his grasp, and Lu Li nimbly caught it.
Director Dong’s laugh grew even more delighted. “Sergeant Lu, I’ve always liked you. From the first day you entered the force, I’ve wanted to train you as my own. But who could’ve known that you’d rather be Director Zhang’s dog than serve as my general. You don’t like me for getting my hands dirty, right? Then kill Chi Zhen right now, and both our hands will be dirty — both of us will have sinned, and we can go back to the station and coexist in peace, continuing to protect and serve.”
Lu Li aimed the gun at Chi Zhen, but he couldn’t pull the trigger.
Suddenly, a gunshot rang out: Director Dong had killed Hu in one shot. Director Dong’s expression was twisted into a vicious, hideous mask as he spoke: “Is killing someone really so hard?”
He looked down at Hu’s corpse. “And you — she’s pregnant, so what? This taxi driver was supposed to be left to Lu Li. Did you get addicted to killing? As the Criminal Investigations Unit’s director, I had to execute you for your crimes.”
Dong turned back to Lu Li. “That’s right, Sergeant Lu. That woman killed three people, as well — shouldn’t she be executed, too?”
Lu Li shook his head, but no matter what, he was unable to shoot Chi Zhen.
Wu Wenxuan continued to struggle in Director Dong’s hold — annoyed, he pushed her to the ground, raising a foot to step on her head. Before he could, another gunshot rang out, a bullet burying itself in Director Dong’s thigh.
“Let her go,” Lu Li said, the barrel of his gun still aimed at him.
Director Dong looked at the blood trickling from his thigh. “If you shoot, then you’d better kill me. You want to take me down with evidence? There is none. Kill him, and I won’t hold a grudge for this wound.”
Lifting his gun, Director Dong fired two shots at Chi Zhen, hitting him in both legs. Chi Zhen crumpled to the ground, forcing himself up to a kneeling position as Director Dong gave Lu Li another order. “Kill him. How can someone like you be a police officer? Here, I’ll give you another reason: scum like him are better off dead than alive. With one shot, why don’t you absolve him?”
Director Dong was focused on Lu Li, and hadn’t paid attention to Wu Wenxuan — she picked up the knife Lu Li had thrown to the ground, suddenly plunging the knife upwards into Director Dong’s gut in a flash of burning pain, blood flowing swiftly out of the wound.
Director Dong hadn’t imagined that he’d ever suffer a wound so severe at the hands of a woman — raising his gun, he fired a shot straight between Wu Wenxuan’s eyes. Wu Wenxuan fell backwards onto the ground, eyes still wide open. Without hesitation, Lu Li opened fire, splintering Director Dong’s his shoulder blade into pieces. In one stride, Lu Li moved forward, taking his gun and his phone, to take away any chance he might have had of calling someone else.
On the other side of him, Wu Wenxuan lay, eyes still opened — Lu Li bowed his head down onto her chest, but her heartbeat had already stopped. Her body was still warm, but there was no more hope of saving her. Lu Li closed his eyes, his tears falling onto her clothes.
Chi Zhen struggled to drag himself over with his arms from where he was knelt on the ground, drawing two long smears of blood out behind him. He seized Lu Li’s shirt, yanking him around. “He did all of this, and you still won’t fucking kill him?!”
Lu Li’s gaze was still fixed on Wu Wenxuan. “He murdered Wu Wenxuan. He’ll spend the rest of his life in prison.”
Chi Zhen yelled into his ear. “Was this a murder? He said it himself, this was an execution. Give me your gun.” Lu Li handed his gun over, turning his head away.
Chi Zhen took the gun, aiming it at Director Dong, whose face instantly went pale. “I’ll admit my loss — take me to prison. We can talk about the rest later, okay? If you fire that gun, then you can forget about seeing the light of day for the rest of your life.”
Chi Zhen spent a moment in silent thought, before asking Lu Li, “How precisely can someone determine the time of death from a gunshot wound?”
Lu Li didn’t understand why Chi Zhen was asking this, but he replied, “If the murder took place within four hours, they can determine the time of death down to the half hour.”
Chi Zhen nodded. “Alright, that’ll do. You should go. I’ll take care of this bastard. Find somewhere with a lot of people: let the entirety of Hua City give our Sergeant Lu an alibi. Tonight, no matter who lives or dies, none of this has to do with you anymore. Go back and file for an arrest warrant — or even better, send out an order for my arrest. The more people hunting for me, the better. If we’re fated to meet again, then you’ll catch me, and we’ll see each other again in prison. If we aren’t, and I’m lucky, then this is goodbye.”
Lu Li finally turned to look at Chi Zhen, who urged him again, “Go. If you wait any longer, I’ll have lost too much blood, and I won’t be able to keep this up any more.” Lu Li looked back at Wu Wenxuan, prompting Chi Zhen to speak up again, “Aiya, stop looking. She’s already dead. Tonight, you can have someone send her to Lao Shi’s.”
After Lu Li left, Chi Zhen checked his phone, even as Director Dong continued to go on and on in the background. “You know, I think I like you even better. Lu Li really wasn’t up to par — he had the ability but not the guts. I’m giving up on him. How about this, you and I could do something great together.” Director Dong fished out a business card, throwing it out at Chi Zhen. “Call this person and get them to pick us up. We can get the bullets extracted, and they’ll clean up this scene. After I become police chief, you can be sergeant — and, later, you can even become the deputy director.”
Chi Zhen continued to ignore him, swiping away at his phone before grumbling, “I told him to make an alibi for himself, but did he really have to go have so much fun?” On his phone screen, there was a picture of Lu Li, two attractive women at his side. Chi Zhen shook his head. “Brother, you just lost your wife. Ah, well — it’s fine. It’s believable, at least.”
Chi Zhen put away his phone, checking the gun’s magazine. Biting back the pain, he forced himself to stand up, looking down at Director Dong, who was sprawled across the ground. “Is this enough respect for you?”
Director Dong was at a loss for words. “What?”
Chi Zhen smiled. “Standing up to kill you.”
Standing on the barren ground beneath him, he lifted his gun and took aim at Director Dong, before a single gunshot rang out.
— end.

Wonderful Evidence of Spirit at a Time of Need
https://ift.tt/2y8HzEs
Introduction by Leo Bonomo
From time to time, we come across wonderful evidence of Spirit, most of which is familiar to us as mediums, psychics and those newly initiated to the great reality of life after death.
Mediums become accustomed to the fact that, “Yes, of course, this is real” and can, on occasion, miss the real and far-reaching impact, the total wonderment and huge effect this realization can have on a person’s life. In the sharing below, we experience the fantastic moment of the bliss that arrives when we KNOW that we do survive death and it comes with such impactful evidence that we cannot ever dispute it.
It is the wonderful gift of Spirit that takes away all fear, as in this case. The evidence cannot be contradicted, although sceptics have certainly tried in the past. If you have “an interest” but feel that you have not had proper evidence, then take heart. This story is a wonderful recounting of an incident that has many values. I, myself, have given evidence of a need to forgive someone who has passed. Sometimes, such terrible things have been done, that people are still unwilling to forgive.
Our need to fix things after we have passed
The evidence presented in the following story shows that when we pass over, we can see and understand the impact of our actions, their full repercussions, and how we are driven to try and fix them. In this case, the need for love and forgiveness was demonstrated (by the person in spirit) with good evidence.
This is, to my mind, as great a story as you would ever hear; a story of our times given the stress being experienced by corona virus. My thanks go out to the wonderful soul who has shared this very personal account of events that are often played out with a very different ending.

Jane’s Story
Has anybody experienced anything similar to this?
In 2010, I experienced something that I’ll never understand; an experience I will never ever forget but also an experience that has taken away all of my previous fears and anxieties around death and dying.
Just a typical, normal night in 2010 and I took myself off to bed. Like any other night, I got comfy and started to read my book. After around 10 minutes, I noticed a dim orb-like light to my right. I remember not really taking that much interest in it and just carried on reading. After around an hour, I turned my lamp off and lay down.
It was only around 2 minutes after turning the light off that I noticed the dim light again. So I peeked over my duvet and to my astonishment, my dad was at the bottom of my bed! I couldn’t believe that I was actually seeing my dad and remember questioning myself, was I dreaming this? But nope. I was 100% seeing him. I really wasn’t too worried by his presence, but the strange thing was that he appeared to me with no waist or legs, just him from his belly up.
I could see every pore on his face. It was so surreal. A brightness glowed around him and he looked so very young; he held his hand out to me and even though his lips never moved, I knew he wanted me to take his hand. He never smiled once whilst he was with me and I never leant forward to take his hand either. I can’t explain why I didn’t but I felt so guilty and upset when he left that I hadn’t.
Mum said there was no way Dad was dead
Eventually, I managed to fall sleep and the first thing I did the next morning was call my mum who lived in France at the time. I told her about my experience of seeing dad standing at the bottom of my bed and at the same time, I told her that my dad must be dead! My mum told me that there was no way my dad would be dead, the reason being, my mum and dad had divorced when I was 11 years old. Poor mum found out he was having an affair with another woman and he was to stay with this other woman till the day he died.
Dad was never a good dad; mum said they married too young and that he worked all day and spend all night in the local pub. This upset mum, as he often came home in a state, never took any interest in family life at all, never gave her a penny and me and my sister were almost non-existent to him.
Mum said he wouldn’t have died because she had always kept in touch with a member of his family and each year they sent each other a Christmas card and would write the occasional letter to each other too. She told me, “If your dad was very poorly or had even died then I’d have been contacted.” She said she had always asked about my dad & was always told he was well.
I tried for years to be in his life
I tried for years to be in his life and thought that when he remarried, I’d be accepted more. The woman he married was Scottish and already had five girls from her previous marriage, so I thought I’d fit in fine. But I didn’t because dad’s new wife didn’t want me around for fear of dad returning to mum one day. Well, that’s what I believed the reason to be – fat chance of that ever happening. Dad’s new wife was an absolute bitch! I never received a birthday card, nor a Christmas card ever, so decided after years of trying, it was time to let go. I eventually gave up, but thought about him often, with a tear in my eye.
Anyway getting back to where I left off, after speaking with mum about my experience with dad, I thought she was more than likely going to be right, so I just brushed it off and tried to forget it had ever happened. I went to bed the next night but nothing out of the ordinary occurred, although I actually whispered to him in my mind as I so wanted him to appear to me again. I missed him and wished I’d taken hold of his hand.

Was this evidence?
I had an invite to my sister’s for tea, so went along with my hubby but never mentioned anything about seeing dad. My sister's husband said he’d got something for me; turned out to be a brochure-like magazine relating to Scotland, not that I’d ever visited Scotland. I was a little intrigued as to why he’d be giving me this and when I asked why, he replied by saying, “I thought you’d be interested as it mentions a few historical places.” And he knew I loved history.
I remember opening up the magazine somewhere towards the middle and for some odd reason I felt a really strong connection to the island that appeared on that page. It was Cumbrae, on the Ayrshire coast of Scotland. The feeling was so strong that I turned the mag around and told everyone to look at how beautiful it was. I even told them I felt a realy uncanny connection to the place & that I needed to go! They just laughed.
Five days later after his visitation, it got to night time again so I retired to bed. Again, nothing unusual, just the same. Got cosy and read my book. I must have been reading for near on an hour when I suddenly felt I wasn’t alone, but I never experienced a bright light. I looked around but couldn’t see anything unusual. I just had this feeling of being watched. Then I put my book down and turned off my lamp.
As I lay there for about 15 or so minutes, I felt the need to look towards the bottom of my bed and omg! Dad was stood their again. I immediately sat up. He looked exactly the same as five nights previous and he held his hand out to me again, only this time, I leant forward and held his hand. I looked on as his hand grasped mine, but felt nothing. I looked at him and he was smiling, then in seconds he was gone! My heart was absolutely broken. I cried myself to sleep but I knew for sure my dad was telling me he had died.
The last time I saw my dad was 1992
The next morning, I got back on the phone straight away to mum and told her that my dad was dead and that he’d visited me again. I couldn’t stop crying and she said, “Let me go, Jane, as I’m going to ring your Auntie Pat.” She was my dad’s adopted sister and the family member mum had always kept in touch with.
The last time I saw my dad was 1992, when I was 26 and married with two children. He never bothered with either of them, yet in 1991, whilst living around 30 miles away from dad, my youngest child became very poorly and was rushed to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool.
Me and my hubby stayed at the hospital and one morning on arriving at my daughter’s ward, I was astonished to see my dad sat by her bedside. He saw us approach and left in the other direction. I shouted over to him but he never turned around. I’d never done anything to this man. I just wanted to be loved by him and to be part of his life but it wasn’t to be.
You were right Jane, your dad passed away
The telephone rang and I knew it would be mum calling, so I quickly grabbed it. I immediately asked if she’d managed to contact Auntie Pat and her reply was, “You were right Jane, your dad passed away on 18th February 2007”.
So I had for sure received a visit from my dad not once, but twice! Mum also told me that she had strong words with Auntie Pat over the phone and told her how utterly disgusted and upset she was that she had not contacted her over his death back in 2007. She also asked how she could have written back in past letters stating that he was well, when all along he’d been dead for the last 3 years!
Mum said that for the entire time she ranted down the phone to Auntie Pat, there was just silence, until she told her to at least tell her where he was buried, so then at least her girls could go and pay their respects to their dad. “The thing is, Linda,” came the reply, “he’s not buried, he’s cremated. But his body isn’t close enough for the girls to visit as his wishes were to have his ashes scattered on the Island of Cumbrae, Ayrshire in Scotland.”
Omg! Omg ! The magazine, the connection I felt with this Island of Cumbrae; an island I never knew existed but felt such tremendous connection with because it was my dad’s final resting place. He found a way to contact me to let me know of his passing, something his wife should have done, and Auntie Pat. But they chose not too and I can not forgive them for that; even my mum cut ties with Auntie Pat because in her eyes, what she did was so unforgivable.
It’ll be like finding a needle in a haystack
Although he was never around for me he’s still my dad and always will be. I love him very much and I’m happy he came to let me know he had passed, as that proves to me his love and I know wholeheartedly that he’s sorry for the past because I just get that feeling. I’ve never seen him since that second visit but know he’s around very often.
This experience wasn’t a dream. This experience was real and has taken all the fear out of dying. I know there is more to come after this life because since my two visitations from my dad, I’ve had a few more experiences that didn’t involve seeing him.
I’ve also since been up to Scotland and took a short ferry ride over to the island with my hubby. That in itself was very odd as I had no idea where dad was resting. Auntie Pat had only told mum he was on the island. Once I’d driven off the ferry, I turned left, which took us down to the beach.
It was so very quiet, not a soul to be seen and my hubby said there was no way I’d find my dads resting place. He got out of the car to ask someone in a local shop if they had any idea where most of the resting places were to be found, but they didn’t. They just told my hubby, “It’ll be like finding a needle in a haystack.”

The lone bagpiper
As we turned the car around to go the other way, a lone bagpiper came off the beach playing the bagpipes. It was so odd because nobody was around except for me and the hubby. We sat and listened as he played, and I just cried. Then we carried on and after travelling for around two miles, I abruptly said to my hubby, “STOP! He’s here.”
There were stone steps to my right and I felt he was at the top of those steps. My hubby said to me, “You’re mad, Jane”, but I got out and once I reached the top, there he was. I found him. The feeling was so overwhelming. There I was, finally with my dad and at peace with myself.
Leo Bonomo’s Response to Jane’s Story
This is a fantastic, beautiful story that mediums are very familiar with. Your Dad had given you clues to his passing at a time when you were open, and guided you to the very spot he was "laid to rest." Not only that, he has acknowledged that he had wronged you and wanted your forgiveness which you had given him. He was aware of your regret and persistent enough to come back and try again, giving you the encouragement you needed. I think it is a wonderful thing.
When we experience something like this, it is a forceful awakening to the ‘real life,’ that the personality survives death. Death is only of the body, the gross material we have created for our means, that is all. You have been blessed and your Dad has given you the greatest gift anyone could ever give.
Evidence that we are eternal
The realisation that we are eternal, the realisation that death is nothing to fear. That we do survive and that "we shall meet again" I am so very sure that this story will encourage so many others who may not yet have found that comfort you have and are experiencing. While you have shared this, I do not think you have realised the full impact it will have on others.
There is a reason you have shared beyond what you know with great evidence too. Thank you for sharing this light, love and experience for all to share. It is wonderfully touching.
Light, always,
Leo.

The college was empty, except for the few students who stayed back a bit longer in the library or those who enjoyed the after college rush to indulge in sports. The cultural fest, scheduled for the end of the month, had not yet inspired the students to stay back to practice. So the stroll through the quiet corridors of the college to take the car keys he had misplaced, was relaxing. Finding the keys where he thought he had placed them, he was about to walk back when he saw the need to take detour. A few feet away stood Anjali, chatting with a group of friends. Seeing that Prerna was not with her, he decided to take a different path to reach his car. Passing by the Auditorium the strain of music caught his attention. Yeh Hosla Kaise JhukeYeh Aarzoo Kaise Ruke It was one of his favourite songs and curiosity drew him into the auditorium. And he saw her dancing. Manzil Mushkil to kyaDhundla Sahil to kyaTanha Ye Dil to KyaHo Hooo Grace and beauty flowed with her every movement, mesmerizing him. He stood back in the shadows not wishing to disturb her. Raah Pe Kante Bikhre agarUspe to phir bhi chalna hi haiShaam Chhupale Suraj magarRaat ko ek din Dhalna hi haiRut ye tal jayegiHimmat rang layegiSubha phir aayegiHooo Her each movement strengthened the meanings of the lyrics, making the dance a proclamation of the will to overcome every hurdle in life. Yeh Hosla Kaise JhukeYeh Aarzoo Kaise Ruke He saw the tears that slid down her cheeks and her attempt to brush it away. She made a futile attempt to stop the tears by closing her eyes. Yet the tears continued to wet her cheeks as she continued her dance. Hogi hame to rehmat ada Dhup kategi saaye taleApne khuda se hai ye DuaManzil lagale humko galeZurrat so baar raheUncha Ikraar raheZinda har pyar raheHooo Now it was more like she wanted to make the lyrics come true with her dance. But the sorrow that was etched in her face belied the hope that was proclaimed by the song. Yeh Hosla Kaise JukeYeh Aarzoo Kaise Ruke As she fell down on her knees sobbing he wondered if he must go to her. Her pain felt too personal for him to intrude. It was true that in the span of the past few days, their decade long relationship had developed from being mere acquaintance to what could be called casual friends. He respected and appreciated her love and devotion to her parents. And yet. May be... even as he started to move forward, he heard her name being called out. "Pree.." Anjali ran towards her friend. "what happened , Are you hurt?" "Nothing... Just give me.." Prerna held on to her friend as she sobs racked her body. When the tempest of tears subdued, a bewildered Anjali asked again, "What happened? What has upset you so much?" "It is okay now," Prerna tried to evade. " i just needed a few moments to .." she wiped her face with her dupatta and smiled as she looked at her friend. "See I am okay now.I just needed to get back resolve. It is alright now. Everything will be okay." "What are you saying Pre? I don't understand." "A girl is bound to have doubts and apprehension when she is getting married, isn't she?" "Married? You are getting married?" Prerna nodded her head in answer. "But who to? When?" asked Anjali shocked. "To Naveen Babu." "Navee.. that pervert?" Anjali burst out laughing. " you can't fool me Pre with this joke Pre. You know I am your best friend." "Yes, you are my best friend and that is why I am telling you now. So that you won't complain later. And I am not joking, I am getting married to Naveen Babu. He wants a proper Bengali wedding as it is my first..." She shook her head as she recollected his words, the way he touched her, " and tonight is adan pradan." She moved away from her friend. " You are lying. I don't believe you. How can you Pre? He is so much older than you . He is Anurag's uncle!" "Kaki Ma and Naveen babu came to our home yesterday with the proposal and I accepted. That is the truth." Anjali moved to stand in front of her friend. "Wait a minute. You said you accepted . What about your family? I am sure Uncle and Aunty will never allow it." She saw the expression on Prerna's face, "I am right. They didn't, right?" "It..It doesn't matter. I will marry Naveen Babu. I gave my word. I will honour it, I should." "But why, Pre? There is something else, isn't there? Something or someone is forcing you." "No!" Prerna replied in panic. " No one is forcing me. I want to be rich. By marrying Naveen babu, I will never have to worry about money. He promised her will take care of my family too." " So you are doing this for your family. But how will Aunty and uncle be happy when they see how unhappy you are? He is a divorcee and so much older than you. I have noticed the way he looks at you. Like a lecher. You said you would have slapped him for touching you like that had it not been the occasion of Mata's bidai. Yet you are marrying him and giving him the right to touch you.. not just your hands.. more!" Prerna shuddered remembering the way she had felt when he touched her, the look in his eyes had made her wish to run so far.. to hide.. ."Stop.. please ..don't" she turned away . Anjali jerked her back to face her, " see even thinking about it makes you so upset. Don't do this Pre. It won't make your family happy, not when they realize you have ruined your life for them. Whatever the problem is that is making you take this decision we can find another way to resolve it. I am sure Uncle and Shekhar bhaiyya will find a solution. Together we will find one, you just tell me what it is." "There is no other way. There is no time to find one. Only I can save my family ." "At least tell me what it is." "I can't " Ok then, if you are so stubborn I will ask Shekhar bhaiyya," Anjali started to call Shekhar but Prerna held her hand. " They don't know. They shouldn't . Promise me!" "Pre, what do you mean? Even your parents don't know ?This is the limit!" Anjali raised her hands in exasperation. " HOW CAN YOU BE SO STUPID!" "No, I am not. If I don't marry Naveen babu we will loose our home. Do you know how much Baba values it? To him it is so much more than a roof above our head, it is the blessings of our forefathers. He lived his whole life in it. How can I stand back and see ittbeing taken away from him? How can I accept that when I know I can stop it?" " So you are telling me unless you marry that.. that man you will loose your home?" "Baba had taken a loan from Kaka babu sometime back. Unless we repay that 15 lakhs within a day, we will loose our home. Now there is not even a day left." "But.. why so sudden ?" " Because Kaki ma.." Prerna went on to tell Anjali what had happened. Anurag was late when he reached home. It had taken him some time to accept that his mother, who loved her children so so much, could do this. He knew, even with the depth of love he had for her , that she had her faults. Pride being one of then. That she would go to this end to seek vengeance over her hurt prideh, hurt him. He knew how much Baba valued his friendship with Rajesh Uncle. If this proposal went ahead, Baba might never be able to forgive his mom. He couldn't discuss this matter with Baba for that very reason. He had considered cancelling the debt, but that too had its own repercussions. It would hurt the self respect of Rajesh Uncle. The decorations and the mood of festivity at home had angered him. Seeing his mom so actively involved in what he considered the ruining of a girl's life upset him. How could she be so insensitive! He had tried talking to her, hhad even asked her who was the girl who was so desperate to marry his twice divorced Mamaji. But his mom had evaded. Now there was just one thing left to do, he thought as he got ready to attend the function of Adan Pradan. Seeing the distress Prerna was going through as she was paraded as the bride-to-be, strengthened his resolve to make right the wrong that was being done to her by his family. As the thali holding the horoscope was to be exchanged, he reached over to take away his mamaji's horoscope. "Anu, what are you doing?" his mom asked. "I don't think it is the right horoscope Ma," he took the one he had brought with him and place it on the thali. He heard his mom's shock in the breath she drew in as she recognized the horoscope. " But this is.. " "Mine, " he completed. Then lowered his voice to say, "when you collect debt from a person you should also ensure that it goes to the right owner. Rajesh Uncles's debt was to Baba, not to Mamaji. As the son of Moloy Basu, I hold the right to collect this debt, which you think Prerna should repay with marriage into this family." Indulekha

As a new Driver when should I expect my insurance costs to lower?
Here is the background: I am 27 years old and I just learned to driver a little over 7 months ago. I know that as a COMPLETELY new driver my insurance costs weren't going to be the best so I was surprised when most if not all companies I went to quoted me at about 400-450 for 6 months of full coverage. I thought this was very very good because that is about what my husband pays and hes had an perfect driving record since he was 17. Well when I went in to buy my first car ( brand new and financed, so I needed full coverage based on my state laws. ) Before I left the lot I called my chosen insurance company and they activated my insurance for me. To my dismay but not complete shock they told me they would have to raise the quote because I didn't have a driving record yet. ( At this point I had only had the license about 3-4 weeks I don't quite remember ). I was told this should clear up the next time I renew. Well my premium has actually gone up fifty dollars ( instead of down 150 )! I was shocked. So, out of curiosity I got quotes from other places now and it was just as expensive if not more so. What happened? I've had no moving or parking violations, my driving record is perfect. I thought I would ask the yahoo community before I call my insurance company to point fingers.""

Where can I get affordable health insurance for my family?
USA 2013, it's now illegal, NOT to have medical insurance for everyone in your family. I get insurance for myself through work, which is mostly paid for by them, except my high deductible and co-pays, which I can barley afford. My wife and kids will cost me over $800.00 per month to insure through my employer. Can't afford that, it's almost as much as my rent. Half the insurance companies I've applied for say I make too much, the other half tell me I don't make enough. What I'm I supposed to do, eat or have insurance? Why am I quoted so high for auto insurance?
Recently I have been shopping around getting online quotes for auto insurance in hopes of getting better rates. Sadly that is not the case. The last three quotes I got were from Farmers, State Farm and met. The quotes for 6 months were absurd. Farmers even quoted me at 8000+ for six months. Seriously? I do live in Detroit, so I am accustomed to higher rates but this is crazy. I have never made an insurance claim. I had one minor traffic ticket 3 years ago(no turn on red). I have had continuous coverage from my current provider for 4 years. What could the problem be. Is it possible to get the insurance companies I quoted with to give me information on why they quoted me at the rates they did. This has been incredibly disheartening. I guess I will stick with my current provider for about 1800 every 6 months.""

""No insurance car accident, wasn't my fault, other insurance company demands payment. What can I do?""
Hello, I need some advice. About 5 months ago, I was in a car accident where I had borrowed my brother's car to run a quick errand. I was not covered on the insurance for the vehicle. I was in a parking lot going straight about 15mph and another car from a feeder lane made a quick left turn (there was a stop sign for her) without paying attention and there was a collision. As far as I can tell, in this type of collision (left turn into a thoroughfare from a feeder) fault lies 100% with the other driver (as far as insurance goes). Today, I received a letter from a collection agency representing the other driver's insurance company demanding $10,000 in damages for repairs. They claim that the facts state that as a result of MY negligence I am responsible for the damages incurred. I cannot afford this. I don't know what to do. How is this my fault? Don't isurance companies follow specific fault determination rules? Any advice is appreciated. Thank you. I know I shouldn't have been driving that car. Only helpful answers please.""
