September 19th is Talk Like A Pirate Day! For today, Howard turned to the largest wood type that we have in our print shop exhibit at the Sacramento History Museum to share his favorite pirate related joke.

This large letter C is 30 line pica (5 inches) and is of the French Clarendon typeface. This piece of type was made in the late 1880s by the Hamilton Wood Type Company in Two Rivers, Wisconsin. This was printed with black rubber base ink using our Washington hand press, which was made in 1852.

I like to think Freelancer and Gavin are perfect parallels in terms of their speed. Let me explain‼️

Personally I see Freelancer as a person that does everything fast. They talk fast and accidentally stumble over their words constantly, they walk fast and leave people behind by accident, they think fast and often come to the wrong conclusion, they write fast and their handwriting is less than ideal, everything is speedy in their world.

Except for Gavin

He moves ever so slowly to make people wait for him, he talks slow, almost to tease the person he conversing with, he takes the time to sit and think about almost everything to make sure he understands, even if it takes a while, and it takes him a while to write stuff off the top of his head because he takes the time to actually think about what he’s writing, and how it’ll look. He’s the type to stop and smell the roses, to just sit and take everything in.

And they balance each other perfectly ❤️

Gavin always chuckles when FL starts over their sentence because they stumbled over their words, but he always waits for them to finish to put in his two cents.

Freelancer always compliments Gavin’s handwriting when he copies down the notes from their notebook because he couldn’t write them down fast enough.
