Thinking about the Tudors OT3 kids marriages
It’s actually very much a thing that while they do arrange marriages Anne, Henry and Thomas very much give their children a choice within that/want them to be able to at least be able to be happy with their spouse, if not in love. Partly this can happen because England is in the position of being courted for alliances in this verse, partly because they have nine children (including Mary in this) - including five boys.
Tommy and Mihrimah came about because essentially, I read an account that Francis I had proposed an Ottoman match at one point and I thought that in a world in which Mihrimah is (a) actually the youngest of her family (b) England is the one being courted for alliances and (c) Ottoman influence in Europe it would make sense for Henry to look somewhere different for a bride for his oldest son. Tommy might actually have been betrothed to Mary Queen of Scots if she’d been born earlier/something else fell out (I have to figure out MQOS)
I saw a post by @theladyelizabeth about ‘how Elizabeth could have been married to Robert if her father had lived longer’ that was great and she mentioned maybe if Henry and Anne had had multiple children and I think that’s what does it - Elizabeth does have betrothal offers (in this case she’s always been considered legitimate - I have to figure out the offers and how they fall through but I think possibly France/Spain/Denmark/Portugal?) and and her journey re marrying at all/marrying Robert is a whole other post.
George was betrothed to the fictional second daughter of Marguerite of Navarre (Madeleine) pretty early on - partly because of Anne’s love of France and also her friendship/admiration for Marguerite.
Liam’s entire betrothal adventure is a whole other post as well.
Margaret was betrothed to the Crown Prince of Denmark pretty early - it turned out they fell in love/liked each other but I think maybe also there was a consideration of an Italian match?
Owen too was betrothed pretty early to Infanta Sofia (who is a fictional granddaughter of Queen Juana I of Spain)
Edmund being betrothed to a Persian noblewoman was another ‘oooh what if’ because of the increased ties to the Ottoman world by the time he and his sister were born.
There were actually several/many offers for Pippa pre [redacted] (the story of how an ambassador nearly died for what he said about her is also a whole other post).

TENET review: warning ⚠️ **SPOILERS AHEAD**
Im going to tell you now, that this movie demands a repeat viewing! There is so much to unpack and so much that I am not fully intellectually equipped enough to be able to analyze as eloquently as someone way smarter than me. I am breaking this down on a purely emotional and entertainment level.. the first time I watched it, I was blown away and pretty confused about my own response because I had no words to describe my first reaction. It was just like “okay, yes.. I know I just watched something no one is ever seen before”... and no outward response more than i knew I liked it but I don’t know what it is. Now that I have seen it again it was actually easier to pick up on the full story the second time around. The first time I felt like we were pushing to get to the climax and figure it all out that I wasn’t really paying attention to the film and just wanted an answer, ANY answer. Watching it again I could appreciate the bigger picture and pick out the little details that were most fascinating now that we knew the end was just part of the beginning. The pre-destined nature of the film and its notions of time and our ability to change anything is on a scale close to none. It’s such a high concept that only a meticulous and unbelievably intelligent filmmaker can pull off without leaving such blaring plot holes or “don’t give a shit attitude” about the mechanics that lesser directors would fall back on just to make a cool looking movie. Christopher Nolan thought of EVERYTHING for this particular story and it’s so obvious because he doesn’t tell you all the answers but you just know that they are there. The world is fleshed out, and dangerous, and unstable but we connect to it for its familiarity even though it keeps its distance in a way. The future that they are hurling towards and it’s destruction of human kinds own making is not so out of our current situation that we cannot conceive of this type of ability of time inversion to be true.
Now I like a good action movie as much as your average guns-a-blazing loving Joe, but what gets me to enjoy a movie beyond that is good characters. John David Washington as “the protagonist” is a mystery but convinces you of his morals and always do the right thing actions. He has been in this life of duty and serving for a long time but has only scratched the surface of his potential. He had a greater destiny and everyone around him seems to know that except him... but only because of the current timeline we follow him in. The way time is played with is so interesting but if you sat here and asked how it exactly works, I really couldn’t tell you. It’s shown that we can go backwards and then forward on your own current progression of time but even with moving back it’s the same amount of time as when you had to move forward in the first place to catch up.. as Neil says to the protagonist, “your head hurt yet?”. We follow our hero on his journey to figure out his part in all this and get swept up in saving a woman and her child from the over the top Russian villain who is somehow communicating with the future to insure its distruction before the worst of endings happens so they don’t have to suffer through their mistakes and it will be as if it never got to that point. Elizabeth Debicki’s Kat is the emotional center for the film and you see her change from meek victim of a domineering husband to a woman who takes control of her own fate. It’s very satisfying to watch her take her freedom back and not apologize for it. Kenneth branaugh as Sator, the most slimy of Bond villains is great at being a very cold and an all around despicable man. He is like one big metaphor for power and delusion. He is willing to kill everyone and everything because, as he puts it “If I can’t have you, no one can”. It’s the kind of alpha male bullshit a sociopath tells himself just to watch the world burn and knows he caused it. The power he has is his most prized possession and when that’s stripped away, he is nothing but a fallible man who is taken down by the “weak” woman he once controlled. The movie itself is very serious in tone and actions, but I gotta say the one bright light for this film was definitely Robert Pattinson’s Neil. Now I know I am biased as HELL when it comes to rob, but I think when you watch the movie everyone will agree he is the one you like the most coming out it. I’ve seen him play dark, brooding, angsty crazy characters and he can play the shit out of those types... but ima tell ya it is a whole other thing when he lays on the charm! Neil is layered and mysterious but boy is he is down to ride for his partner no matter what! He oozes likability and style while swaggering around like a swave James Bond type with a manic undercurrent that keeps you glued to his every movement. His relationship to the protagonist is the most interesting part for me, and their chemistry is just perfect. We come to find out that Neil has know the protagonist the whole time and was actually recruited by him in the future. They have gone on many missions together and have obviously created a tight bond. We don’t get the full answers of this revelation but just the understanding of it makes you so emotional and invested in their relationship that in the last few moments you are both elated at the infrormation and then completely devastated by what you now know of his ultimate fate. His devotion to the protagonist and their mission is the driving force that saves the world. To me, Neil ends up being the hero of this particular story and the protagonist will go on to be the important person he is because of him. The last shot of him realizing what will happen and what Neil has done for them but unable to change any of it with tears in his eyes that don’t fall is crushing, and John David Washington really sells it there for me. The parting words of “see you at the beginning friend” as Rob walks away with a smile is beautiful. That damn red string will haunt me! 😭
The movie is not without flaws and it’s over obsession with the sound mixing can be hard to get around, but I think this is a movie where even as important as the dialogue is, it wants you to feel something rather than explain things to you. It’s heart pounding and fist clenching to the very end. It feels like there is so much more to explore in this world and follow these characters that may or may not be who they seem. It’s brilliant and bold and very very unique. It is worth watching even if you end up hating it. We need more things like this that take a risk and wants to take you for a ride...even if you don’t really know where your going to end up. 👏🏼🎥

Mr.Lovato 1st period Book Report: Fatherland by Robert Harris - Jason Aguirre
Personal Narrative
The historical fiction book, Fatherland, by Robert Harris was an interesting take on history creating a universe where what if the Nazis won WW2 and I believe it was a great book and would suggest it to other readers, here is why. The book follows our protagonist, Xavier March, also known as Zavi. who was a u-boat submarine pilot in WW2 for Germany. Now he works for the Kriminalpolizei as a detective who is a high ranking official in the SS. He had a son named Pili and got married with his nurse, Klara but they divorced and now he lives by himself. While investigating the murder of Josef Buhler, a high ranking Nazi. His body was found by the Havel river in Brandenburg. The only witness to it all Hermann Jost didn’t wanna reveal everything, but eventually he revealed everything that he saw. He claims to have seen Odilo Globocnik a high ranking SS member. The gestapo orders the krippo to shut down their investigation of the murders but March presses on. He meets with an American journalist named Charlotte 'Charlie' Maguire. They work together and while investigating in Zurich they discover the head of the SS, Reinhard Heydrich, who has ordered the deaths of all the members who attended the Wannsee Conference in 1942 ordering the go of The Final Solution which killed all the Jews. The two head for neutral Switzerland to expose the Nazis as they are about to have peace conferences with the US and end the cold war, but this will cripple the Nazi faith and hopefully put an to their regime. Pili reports March to the gestapo which then apprehends him. A he is being tortured for Maguire’s location. The krippo chief stages a rescue hoping to get March to lead them to Maguire, but he figures it out and instead leads the authorities to Auschwitz. After knowing that charlie had enough time to cross the border he finds the remains of Auschwitz and satisfied he pulls out a gun. The book ends with the presumed death of Xavier March, but he succeeded in his goal at the end having Charlie be safe and the news breaking out to the rest of the world.
Timeline
Plot Entry #1: Xavier is reported to investigate the murder of Josef Buhler as his body was found by the Havel river in Brandenburg. After further investigation he learns that a high ranking SS member was the one who murdered Buhler. The gestapo closes the investigation on Buhler’s death, but Xavier decides to press on
Plot Entry #2: Xavier comes across American journalist, Charlotte 'Charlie' Maguire, who accompanies him on his journey after being convinced of the murder plot. They head to Zurich where they discover that the murders were ordered by the head of the SS, Reinhard Heydrich, who has ordered the deaths of all the members who attended the Wannsee Conference in 1942 ordering the go of The Final Solution which killed all the Jews.
Plot Entry #3: Xavier and Charlie are heading out to Switzerland the neutral country not affected by Germany and are going to expose the Germans for the Holocaust as they are about to have a meeting with the US to have a peaceful end to the Cold War between them.
Plot Entry #4: Xavier gets apprehended by the gestapo and is now being tortured for information. The krippo chief stages a rescue on March to try to get him to reveal where Charlie is headed, but he catches on to this and leads them to Auschwitz where he finds evidence of the camp is satisfied as he knows Charlie made it to safety across the border. The book ends with his presumed death and the new information revealed to the public about the Holocaust.
Historical Entry #1: Xavier March was a U-boat submarine pilot for the German Navy in WW2 and he married his nurse, Klara and had a son with her named Pili. They eventually divorced and his son now lives with his ex wife and has joined the Jungvolk Youth training camp.
Historical Entry #2: Hitler is turning 75 in the book’s setting and is scheduled for a meeting with the US President, Joseph P. Kennedy to end on a peaceful end with their Cold War. Germany now controls all of Europe and has authority in every country except Switzerland who has stayed neutral throughout everything. Russia is no more either and all there is left is terrorist organization groups plotting against the Nazis.
Historical Entry #3: The Wannsee Conference in 1942 is a huge deal which kicks off the whole book as that conference decided the the Final Solution executing and murdering millions of Jews. Members are then being assassinated to be silenced and have no record of anything.
Historical Entry #4: Churchill and Princess Elizabeth have fled to Canada where they reside at the time of this book. Japan lost America due to the Atomic Bomb being dropped on them. The year is 1964, other important Nazi officials have died like Heinrich Himmler, Hermann Goring, etc.
Journal Entries
Journal Entry #1: I had been called to investigate a murder scene by the Havel river in Brandenburg. The only witness Hermann Jost is telling me he only saw the body, but I know he has more not willing to say just yet, but eventually I’ll get the information out of him. The body has been identified to be Josef Buhler a high ranking member in the Nazi Party. After further investigation and questioning the young 19 year old Jost, he told me he also saw Odilo Globocnik who is the right hand man of SS leader Reinhard Heydrich who took leadership over the SS after Heinrich Himmler’s death in 1962. Recently the gestapo swung over to the department and told us the case is under their control and we don’t have to proceed with anything else. Knowing how odd the gestapo are, I believe they’re trying to cover something up. I need to further investigate this on my own. The people over at the gestapo have never really liked me much as they know i’m not a big supporter of our government. I was disappointed to hear my son had joined the Jungvolk as I would rather have him get involved in other things than join the war machine. I never like donating to the winter relief drive they have going on. They’ve tried inviting me to the Nazi party, but I don’t want to get involved in all this political stuff as i’m happy where I am. I have also always been curious about what happened to the jewish family that lived in my apartment before me.
Quotes/Commentary
1. “So I have a choice: either I am an investigator in that uniform, and try to do a little good; or I am something else without that uniform, and do no good at all.” This quote has significant meaning to it because it’s when Xavier realizes that there is something amidst and he can either do his job to further investigate this conspiracy or just hushed about everything he learned. This is Xavier’s first step into his journey of investigating these assassinations on high ranking officials to cover up the Holocaust and his journey to expose the Nazi regime.
2. “What do you do,’ he said, ‘if you devote your life to discovering criminals, and it gradually occurs to you that the real criminals are the people you work for? What do you do when everyone tells you not to worry, you can’t do anything about it, it was a long time ago?’ She was looking at him in a different way. ‘I suppose you go crazy.’ ‘Or worse. Sane.” This is Xavier talking to Charlie about his plan to act on something about the Holocaust cover up since now he knows it’s by the higher ups which causes him to realize he needs to act on it and is telling Charlie about it. Charlie will then be his main partner and be the one to expose the Germans at the end of the book
3. “You can't build on a mass grave. Human beings are better than that - we have to be better than that - I do believe, don't you?" Charlie now believes everything Xavier was talking about and is determined to help aid him in his journey to expose the Nazis as she doesn’t believe it’s okay to cover up the events of the Holocaust
“4. A permanent state of war on the Eastern front will help to form a sound race of men,’ the Führer had once said, ‘and will prevent us relapsing into the softness of a Europe thrown back upon itself.’ But” This is Xavier explaining how the Nazi regime is operating now that WW2 has ended and to keep it’s citizens on the ready. This is also why Xavier's son, Pili, is in the Jungvolk training camp to turn them into soldiers which Xavier is against him being in.
Discussion Questions
1. Are our lives controlled by fate or free will? In other words, do the choices we make determine our futures, or is our life destined to be what it is? How does this perspective affect the way you interact with the world? Cite specific experiences or influences that have led you to your position.
I believe that our lives are shaped by our own decisions that we make and will shape our lives to what they become. This perspective makes me believe that through our own power we can make decisions that will further better our lives and help create an amazing environment for our younger generations. After WW2 and everything that coincided, we had the choice as people to shape our world and we ended shaping our world into a long time of death and grief, soon though we might be able to reshape it into a better world for the next generations.
2. How do you define success? Do you believe you’ve achieved success? If so, how do you know? If not, what has prevented you?
I define success by whether or not one achieves their goals that they want to reach in life and achieve happiness. I have achieved success as I have let the gestapo and SS away from Charlie and led them astray. I will die happily knowing the one I love will make it out alive and expose the the Nazi Regime for their war crimes, thus liberating the people’s mindsets to act on it and build a better world for the next generations.
3. Who are the most important people in your life? Why are they so meaningful to you?
The most important people in my life are my 10 year old son Pili and the new love of my life Charlie. Pili is my only son and I care for him so much and I only hope for him to live a good life, but I hope he doesn’t forget me after him now living with his mother and stepdad. Charlie means a lot to me because she is an amazing person that has entered my life and has helped me tremendously through this journey of unraveling this cover up by the Nazis. I will make sure nothing happens to her and succeeds in our mission as she is the new love of my life and only wish for the best for her.
4. If you change one thing in your life what would it be? How would this affect the circumstances of your story?
If I could change one thing in my life it would be to have the people not have created a Nazi Germany where now we’re almost back to the way of living as we were in the 1930’s. Then we wouldn’t have had such bad moments in our history and lived peaceful times.

Robert Rodriguez Says He Cast Rose McGowan In Grindhouse To SPITE Harvey Weinstein — And The Movie Got 'Buried' Because Of Her!
We've heard lots of stories over the past couple weeks from women Harvey Weinstein scared into silence.
But what would have happened if they fought back?
Video: Rose McGowan's Powerful Speech At The Detroit Women's Convention
According to Robert Rodriguez, he did try to help Rose McGowan beat Harvey's "blacklisting" of her -- by casting her in his Weinstein Company-funded film Grindhouse.
In fact, in an official essay for Variety, he reveals the plot of his half of the throwback double feature with Quentin Tarantino was inspired by her story, something he could never talk about before:
"I have not previously discussed what I knew about the 1997 incident that Rose suffered in a hotel room during the Sundance Film Festival. I never wanted to do anything that jeopardized a legal settlement she entered into with Harvey Weinstein. Now that she's able to tell her story, I want to provide an account of what I knew, when I knew it, and what I did about it."
Rodriguez says he first learned of her "blacklisting" at Cannes in 2005, when she explained to him why she hadn't auditioned for Sin City. She told him the whole story of the assault -- and the subsequent legal action:
"Rose told me that all she could do at the time was to get Harvey Weinstein to donate money to an abused women's shelter and in return she had to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) that forbade her from talking about the horrific violation without being sued, and that she shouldn't even be telling me. To add insult to injury, she told me that she was blacklisted from even auditioning for any Weinstein movies."
That's when the director got PISSED -- and decided to go renegade:
"I then revealed to Rose right then and there that I was about to start writing a movie with Quentin Tarantino, a double feature throwback to 70's exploitation movies, and that if she was interested, I would write her a BAD ASS character and make her one of the leads. I wanted her to have a starring role in a big movie to take her OFF the blacklist, and the best part is that we would have Harvey's new Weinstein Company pay for the whole damn thing."
But they got to throw it in Harvey's face sooner than they were expecting:
"Just as I finished telling Rose this, I saw Harvey walking around the party! I called Harvey over to our table, and as soon as he got close enough to see that I was sitting with Rose, his face dropped and went ghostly white. I said, "Hey Harvey, this is Rose McGowan. I think she's amazing and really talented and I'm going to cast her in my next movie." Harvey then dribbled all over himself in the most over the top performance I'd ever seen as he gushed, "Oh she's wonderful, oh she's amazing, oh she's fantastic, oh she's so talented… You two should definitely work together." And then he skittered off. I knew right then that every word Rose told me was true, you could see it all over his face."
They made the film, a star-studded, strangely meta movie that played like two '70s B movies, complete with fake trailers for other movies made by friends like Eli Roth and Edgar Wright.
It was crazy and long and ahead of its time -- and Rose is spectacular in it.
Unfortunately it completely tanked at the box office.
Rodriguez still believes Harvey's vendetta against Rose is what kept the movie from even being given a fighting chance with a proper ad campaign, etc. He explains:
"But because of the NDA Rose told me she had signed, at Rose's request I had to keep it quiet from everyone until now as to why we were even making that film together, especially Harvey. We knew that strategically we couldn't rub it in his face why we were REALLY doing this movie, because then he'd just bury the movie, not sell it well, and everyone would lose. To our horror, Harvey buried our movie anyway, and because we did not want to risk getting sued, we never spoke publicly about the matter...
I am still haunted and disillusioned that after all the good intentions, immense pain and struggle Rose and I and so many talented people went through to make the film, that Harvey Weinstein won in the end by burying the movie just because Rose was the lead actress."
Robert wishes they could have spoken about the inspiration of the film, the fight behind the scenes before now. And he hopes this new conversation will change things in Hollywood and other businesses:
"It's been really difficult to admit and come to terms that the NDA handcuffs forced us to needlessly jump through hoops that today would have been unnecessary because of Rose's fearlessness to speak out, despite the consequences. I hope that new legislation will result in NDAs to be legally null and void in situations where rape and assault have been committed and where power is so unequally distributed."
Hear, hear!
"Looking back over the years, I have wondered if I would have made the same choices, knowing the bleak outcome. We all suffered greatly on the film, and the journey ended up costing us all more than we ever bargained for. For me personally, it cost me my marriage of 16 years, my family, a large dose of sanity, and for years I have grappled with the sobering idea that maybe I made a grave error in standing up at all, when no one was even asking me to."
OK, we have to stop right there -- was it really the movie failing at the box office that cost you your marriage, Robert? Or did dating your star do it?
In case you didn't know, Robert and Rose went public with their relationship when the movie came out -- immediately after news of his split with his wife, Elizabeth Avellan, hit.
Photos: 10 Movies That Ruined Celebrity Relationships
Not the point, we know, but gotta be honest here. Anyway, go on:
"I know that's not the message I'd ever want to send out, but it's been hard to justify something that now is clear was a lose/lose situation from the get-go, and that in the end failed and simply caused more damage. The reason I'm saying this is because it's very clear to me now that when someone does what Harvey Weinstein did, the devastation goes far beyond predator and victim.
These past few weeks have given me new clarity and hope by seeing the tide finally turn, seeing Harvey finally on the run, and seeing all the brave women who have come forth with their own shocking and distressing stories of abuse. Since I've seen a distinct lack of stories coming from men who may have tried to do the right thing, I wanted to come forth to say that no matter the consequences, no matter how far you have to stick your neck out, no matter what you have to lose, that we must fight the good fight. Everyone has to make a stand and take action."
Damn right they do!
Because two against the world isn't enough. This fight needs to be ALL of us against them.
