addendum addendum!! the awful thing about the mark nik leaves on other beings when he ties their soul to his own, is that yeah he holds ultimate control, but the scales aren't so brutally tipped that some power, some magic, can't trickle back through that tie (it's all free-floating in there until he nails it down via runes). so yes, you have a fingerprint seared into your flesh and you don't quite know what it does but you get a tiny, measly bit of magic. and for the powerless, that means so, so terribly much. what else could this be but a gift.

hence, the title 'giver' or 'gift' is the real horror shit because it's nik's biggest, grossest bait n switch to date and the reason so many innocents in need of a 'miracle' (meaning, those most misfortunate) ended up brutally, shamefully lured first into his various cults and then into death. on the other end, he also has a lot of the power-hungry queuing up too, but they all die in the end, in some bid of comedic, equalizing unfairness. and nik.. well, nik hasn't forced any of them into anything. he's only done as they've asked.
