What if…
I don‘t know if this is a mistake or not, but it feels like the universe is giving me signs to do this,… so here I go.
Recently I‘ve started to write a Loki fanfic. I was so anxios about the english grammar, that I asked a friend to check on it. She read it and told me, it‘s not that bad. But she‘s still very busy and even if I asked her, to check on the grammar and send it back to me, it feels like it takes like forever. And this happens to me with all my betas and all the storys I gave away. I‘m still afraid to do this step, but I want it out there. Today it feels, like I have to or miss the chance, so here is the first part of ‚What if…‘ I hope it‘s not that bad and I would be happy about constructive criticism.
What if... Loki where a 21st century woman?
Scene 1
‘I hate this place! Not that I haven’t seen worse, but it’s dangerous, even for me. I’m starving, this whole planet is inhospitable! It’s more than time to leave. Only that using the Tesseract to teleport, takes a lot of power... wouldn’t be that hurtful, if I hadn’t had to escape from, in my opinion, this way too annoying bastard. And he still follows me somehow. By Odin's beard, I should have killed him the time I had the chance. Stabbed him in the back, of course, just without the expected result. Since I’ve left my originally realm, a lot of things happened, mostly not to my satisfaction. Me sitting on the throne I deserve wasn’t one of it. The only higher court is this piece of stone I am sitting on. Would be utterly boring, to rule this world. It doesn’t even deserve that name, it’s a desert. Thinking about it, why not go and visit Midgard again? I haven’t seen my brother in ages and I guess that’s the place to meet him. I gain all the power the planet spare with me and use it, to start a new, different adventure. One that might bring some mischief!’
We see Loki disappear from the stone dessert. Where he sat seconds before, like it would have been the throne of Asgard, legs open and hands on the rocks that surrounded him. Eying the environment with disgust, out of a pale face and dark rings under his bloodshot eyes.
Everything he leaves behind is a blue gleaming, which last for a while, until it fades completely. In the end there is nothing left to proof his short residence.
Scene 2
We are inside a crowd. In a well known theatre, that has an open roof and reminds us of an wooden O. It’s dark outside, but the crowd standing around us, keeps us warm. We stare up to the actors on stage, who are playing a fairy tale in a midsummer night’s dream. Suddenly the people around us start to whisper and raise their heads. We follow their sight to the balcony where a man, bound in leather and with golden horns on his head, stands. Obviously he isn’t part of the cast. Voices, about some promotion gag, becoming louder. How well do we know about Loki from all those movies and comics? But this guy is new and definitely not Matt Damon. As we can see, he isn’t just playing a role and his behaviour is far from method acting. His fascial expressions are extraordinary, like a man who literarily came from another dimension. We can read from his body language, how much he enjoys the crowd cheering at him. Until a sudden change on his face shows us a second of fear, like he had just remembered something. Indeed he is hiding it pretty well, as we start to question our power of observation, thats how fast he got back control.
Loki is leaving gracefully, walking backwards and that’s the last thing we see of him.
‘Those puny mortals are staring at me. They seem pleased by my appearance. It’s joyful to have them cheering at me, quite different to my last visit. Thinking of it makes me realise, I’m not out of danger yet! How could I forget about this stupid Agency, that is somehow connected with Thor. It wasn’t a good idea to show my face to all those people. Maybe one of them is in the crowd, already calling for the bloody Avengers - this time I don’t have an army to my support. Even if I’d decimated their number last time, who can tell if they didn’t recruit more, since I’ve been gone? I’ll have to go now! I’m able to get out of here without losing my face. A god doesn’t run away, even though it would be wise to get disguised for a little while. Of course I could become an animal, but that’s what Thor would expect of me and probably figure it out quickly. No, I have to do something he would never expect. Speaking the spell, I think of all the women I know, with mother leading the way - for fathers sake am I tired! Didn’t even realise it until this very moment. I feel the darkness coming closer, as I slide down some wall, sense my body transforming right before the darkness takes over.’
We caught Loki again, sitting on a corner, head leaning against the wall behind him, eyes closed. His body looks strange. It’s difficult to see the shape of it, like you would try to see trough some fog, surrounding his skin. His hair becomes lighter every second until it reaches the colour of sand. We can’t see it, but even his body shrinks a little. The wardrobe changes from asgardian to, probably stolen out of Natashas closet. Loki wears black jeans, a green t-shirt and a also black leather jacket now. Underneath the shirt a breast starts to grow, while other ‘things’ become less until they disappear. This is so much more than a simple illusion and Loki can be happy about being unconscious, so he doesn’t have to feel the pain of his transformation.
Scene 3
As for Loki, we know he is a clever fellow. Maybe that’s what brings doom on his own occasion. We remember, he is a she now and she’s still sitting there, holding the Tesseract, which slowly slips from her hand.
To give us certainty, yes he used it as a source of power to make a true transformation, not willingly though. He was at a state of weakness, where he didn’t think much about his actions. And he needed the support, as for this world we can sense slight traces of magic. Of course every use of sorcery has it’s price and we can assume, that if Loki had seen the bill, he probably wouldn’t be willing to pay for it.
Anyway, events have been started and we will have to live with the consequences. For Loki it means, that there is an orange circle appearing out of nothing, not noticed by her mindless shell. Just a small one, producing a quiet sound, like wind howling trough grass. Out of this hole in time and space, we see a hand appearing, grabbing for the blue glowing cube. Taking it out of reach for the mischievous god.
She will sleep now, for a long while. Trying to regain some power. What she doesn’t know is the fact, that the dimension she slipped in so careless, doesn’t contain much witchcraft. What, well hopefully, will keep her busy, so the other realms can recover, at least, from her evil deeds.
And her slumber won’t be broken. Not even as two strangers cross Lokis path. For them it’s a broken, but still beautiful woman, sleeping in an unusual place. We sense the compassion on their faces. They share a long moment of silent conversation, just by expressions. The woman, a goth girl, seems to be wary about what she reads in the face of her companion. The guy indeed seems to be unafraid. He gets closer, grabbing Loki at her shoulder, shaking her. She shows no reaction at all.
‘Is she dead?! We should get help,’ the female says.
‘Still breathing. Don’t be such a chicken! I think she might be one of our kind … let’s take her home and allow her to rest,’ the guy replies.
‘You are serious, aren’t you? I can’t believe, I even consider helping you … come on then!’
The both of them take the girl between them, pulling her up, slowly starting the long walk home. It looks rather funny, for Loki is a tall woman and these strangers are smaller than her. They haul her more as you could describe it as carrying, but at least they’ll reach a house that they get into.
Meanwhile Loki still doesn’t move any bone, would have been helpful with the stairs actually. We don’t know if she realises anything of what is happening, but according to the abuse done to her body we may doubt it. Even when they drop her into a bed, she’s like a corpse.
‘Kevin, do you really think this was a good idea?’ the woman asks.
‘Come on Beatrix. Don’t you think it’s what humanity claim from us? I will sit with her and wait until she wakes, if it brings peace to you. You can go to bed if you like.’
The guy smiles at her and she can’t help herself and smiles back.
‘You are too kind for this world, you know?’ she kisses him on the forehead and leaves the room. Giving the burden of a long night’s watch to him, as he’d requested.
Scene 4
‘This must be a dream, I guess it by the fact, that mother is with me. Her soft touch, the calm voice and the love I feel while she looks at me, are far away from me these days. I miss her, knowing well what’s going to happen once I’ll return to Asgard, keeps me away from there. It isn’t my home anymore and that’s what will make her safe. We always had a strong connection, that’s why I believe her, when she tells me, to find my own way. Even if I know perfectly that it’s just a dream, her next words are predictable as she tells me to seek happiness in what I have. Only that I own nothing at all, I was promised a throne! Mothers eyes darken, like she could read my thoughts. She turns her back on me. I call out to her, knowing what’s going to happen next. As in all those dreams before, I see her dying.
No matter how hard I try, I can’t change her fate. It’s like I’m cursed, every time I come close to her, she’s dying.
“Mother …,” it’s just a whisper of disbelieve on my lips, yet it’s enough to wake me from this horrible dream. Watching myself causing her death again and again, doesn’t lose any of it’s horror. Through a shroud of tears I blink my way into reality. I can’t remember what happened. The ceiling I’m staring at, doesn’t look familiar to me. My tong licks over my dry lips, don’t know the last time I actually drank something? My stomach hurts, food seems to be even longer ago. I’m weak and I hate knowing so. I use all my senses, to get more informations about my whereabouts, as I am unable to move. There is some comfort in the way I lie, a pillow under my head and a blanket that keeps me warm. Knowing all this, doesn’t really help me to figure, where I am or how I get here. The try to sit up and have a better view got amiss, I’m far to weak. A sight of surprise escapes my throat and I fall back into the down.
‘Are you finally awake?’ a voice from my right asks and I manage to turn my head, to see who was talking. A redhead caught my sight, he looks quite young. It’s not easy to tell with those Midgardian folks. ‘How are you? Feeling a bit better?’ he smiles at me, trying to make me trust him, I suppose. NOBODY ever ask me, how I feel!
‘Am I your prisoner?’ is the first thing I need to know.
‘No, god no! Why would you think … never mind. Of course you are free to leave any time. But you are also allowed to stay, if you need help,’ is the reply.
I try to figure out what kind of game he’s playing, but it doesn’t occur to me. It makes no sense. I’m staring at him in silence.
‘Don’t know what you had to go trough till now, however I promise you’re perfectly safe with me. Uhm - maybe it calms you - if I tell you that I’m gay? I won’t touch you. And if that isn’t enough, I could call for my flatmate. She helped to bring you here by the way.’
Does that little scum really believe, I, the god of mischief, would be scared by a mortal?! And how does it make things any better, if he adds his sexual interest - oh wait - I completely forgot about the disguise I’m in. Of course he must mistaken me for a weak creature like himself.
‘I am a goddess and not afraid of your puny, gay presence!’ I tell him to demonstrate how less I’m impressed.
‘Uuuuhm, ‘kay?’ now the redhead is staring at me. Not the effect I had in mind. He seems more fascinated than afraid. There is more, even when he’s hiding it well, an expression of anger crosses his mimic for a second. ‘Listen, if I where you, I would think carefully about my next words, cause if you are one of those homophobic assholes, you can go back from where you’ve come!’ Now we have context.
‘Ehehehe. You have no idea who you are talking to, do you? Where I come from, nobody cares about the gender of your love. I didn’t meant to make an insult on that topic, you insisted on being so. I wanted to warn you, that I am dangerous. But as words seem to have no effect on you, take this!’ with these words I grab for the Tesseract in my magic pocket, just to find it isn’t there. ‘Where IS IT? Did you maggots dare to steal the stone from me? I am Loki of Asgard and you are a dead man, if you don’t tell me where you’ve put my belongings!’ I yell at him, this time pulling out a knife. The mortal keeps his hands up in defence.
‘First of all, you didn’t carry any belongings with you, as we picked you up. Second, you really believe all those shit you are saying, don’t you? That’s quite of interest to me and I may be able to help you. Third and last, threaten me with a butterknife hasn’t the impact on me, you might think. I’ve experienced worse, you know,’ he looks at me, like I’ve gone mad. I however look down at my hands to find , well not what I’d expected. What is wrong with this dimension? The knife disappears.
‘Take me back to the place where you’ve found me,’ I press the words through my lips, trying to stand up, failing again.
‘If I promise to get you back there, would you behave for the rest of the day?’ he’s waiting for an answer. As I’ve said enough already, I just mutter my approval. ‘Good. Anyway, you’ll have to wait, cause it is closed right now. We’ll be there by the time it opens, to search for your stone.’
‘Tesseract! It’s a blue glowing cube.’
‘Yeah, whatever. We’ll seek for it, I promise.’
‘Sounds like the stuff Hina keeps talking about,’ a rasping voice comes from outside the room, ‘what kind of freak did we brought in here Kevin?’ a woman appears in the door, examining me and so do I. She has a strange colour of hair, that is somewhere between grey and light blue - but not the right age for it - half of her head is shaved, while on the other side the hair grows over the shoulder. She looks skinny, not in a very healthy way. She might be a warrior. At least her clothes look like she had a fight, all black and ripped into pieces. Now that I’m on the case, I get a closer look on the redhead too. He appears neat and well-fed, nothing unusual about him. Even his style is screaming: “I’m like everybody else.” Maybe except the golden ring in his right ear. I can’t understand, how both of them can be friends, not to talk about the third party, in which room we obviously are. There are colourful pictures all over the walls, a lot of books and art supplies spread across the desk next to the window. How can anybody life here on free will?
‘Does she has a name?’ the woman breaks the silence, asking her friend but still looking at me. He seem uncomfortable with the situation, that’s why I introduce myself.
‘I am Loki of Asgard.’
‘Sure and I’m Jesus Christ! What’s wrong with you?’ she waves her hand in front of her face, I do not know for what reason.
‘I beg your pardon, daughter of Christ, everything is completely fine with me! It’s not my fault, your tiny brains can’t keep up with a god.’ If looks could kill, we would be dead by now. She indeed has something of a warrior.
‘Woah, bitchfight! Calm down ladies,’ Kevin tries to ease the situation. I don’t know if it’s him who finally breaks the ice, or my stomach, that is rumbling loudly into the silence. I’m ashamed because of the betrayal caused by my own body. My cheeks feel hot all of a sudden.
‘See? Maybe we should all have breakfast first, afterwards we can come back to the topic,’ another short silence follows to Kevins words and he must have taken it as agreement, cause he gets up, leaving the room, gently pushing the girl aside. She follows him, not without giving me a last evil look.
My leg slips out of the bed, carefully, followed by the other one. It takes some effort to get up, in the end I stand on my unpleasant feet. Looking down, the difference isn’t to suppress. It was easy with the female voice, as I’m used to different illusions. The new point of view however, let me figure out some things. On my way out of the room I walk past a mirror. After a short glance I have to stop and walk back, to get a closer look. The spell I’ve used works perfectly, way to perfect! I can’t trust mine eyes. My hand wanders across my new face and I can’t but accept the tiny differences. Not that it would bother me, how familiar I still look to myself, it’s more the fact that everything is so damn real. I’ve tried this kind of magic more than once, it never worked quite well. So how come, I was able to work such a difficult spell on the edge of my powers? Something is going on here and I need to find out about it. Plus I need to get the Tesseract back. Thinking back, I’m already sorry, I’ve left the last planet.’
Scene 5
Loki is sitting inside a small kitchen, sipping on a cup of tea, so do his new flatmates. The atmosphere is in low spirits and all we can hear is the noise of their dishes. It’s obvious, the Midgardians don’t believe a single word she had told them, oddly enough they want to help her, for reasons we shall find out, as the story continues. Yet here they are, remain silent, until we start to wonder who’ll be the first one to talk again?
‘Do you feel better now?’ of course it would be Kevin, what did you think? ‘A nice little cupper and some beans with eggs always have been the best way to have a good start into the day, isn’t it?’ he grins like a Cheshire cat, obviously food is his guilt pleasure. Loki just sits in the corner, raising one eyebrow, while Beatrix seems to relax a bit.
‘That’s what I love you for, you know. Just that stupid grin,’ she giggles.
‘What you mean stupid? Is it a crime to be happy after some good food?’ Kevin looks puzzled and Bea starts to laugh. They fill the room with joy, but can’t pass it on to Loki, who still sits in her corner, without moving, or even showing some empathy. There is just this sad look on her face, we can only guess about. Maybe it is, because she’s reminded of all those times she saw Thor and his friends, having fun like that. Or it is, cause she never was a part of the group, but always watched from aside. Probably she doesn’t know it herself, nonetheless it makes her aware of the big gap between them and how impossible it seems, to ever be on that side of the table. To be the one who laughs with friends.
She can’t get away soon enough.
‘Is it time now to seek for my lost item? - Please,’ she adds after a short break. Must have come to her mind, that they’ve shared their food with her, so the try to be a bit more kind isn’t all waisted time. Not that it make her care.
But how can we know, by just watching the expressions on Lokis face? Well we don’t, but we know her well enough to interpret every tiny movement, ain’t we?
‘You see, it wasn’t that hard,’ Kevin smiles again and takes a look onto his watch, ‘we’ll need a bit more patience. One more hour and we can go,’ he tells Loki, who’s wriggling on her chair.
‘I probably shall not feel like it, but I’m still hungry. Glancing at the girl, who has barely even touched her food. I can’t help myself, but staring at her plate in desire. I can’t remember, the last time I have been that hungry, to forget all my manners.
‘Bea love, are you eating any of this yet?’ Kevin must have followed my sight, what makes me look away in shame.
‘Nope,’ is all she says. That’s when he takes the plate and slide it into my direction. I take the offered food and eat it as fast as possible, to not extend this annoying situation. I’m even more ashamed, that I’ve just behaved like my brother would, how pathetic!’
Scene 6
We see Loki and Kevin at the Globe, on the corner where they’ve picked her up. Seeking for the cube, while we can see on her face, how, with every second, she becomes more desperate.
‘It must be here! I’m stuck in this bloody realm if we can’t find it …,’ she mutters in distress.
‘Maybe some stranger picked it up? We can ask, if it was handed over down there?’ Kevin offers.
‘That’s impossible! It’s nothing a mortal could handle!’ she yells at him, throwing her hands in the air.
‘Fine! What would you suggest to do next?!’
‘I DON’T KNOW! I need to think,’ she turns around, walking away.
‘Take your time. I’ll be in the big building next door, if it’s of any interest to you.’
We look after Kevin, as he disappears in the Tate modern, while Loki is taking a walk along the Themse.
‘How? I definitely had escaped the guy and he can’t be that fast in tracking me. It’s impossible. Somebody else must have taken the Tesseract. But who? There is nearly no magic in this world and according to Kevin, nothing like gods or celestial beings to ever be seen. New York wasn’t attacked by the Chitauri and the Avengers are heroes out of comic books. What ever that means. Sure there are a few individuals, who would like to steal the Tesseract, but none of them could come here without it’s powers. What plan could this person follow? It makes no sense … unless … unless they want me to be stuck here. Like a very luxurious prison, I bet Thor or Odin are involved in it! Can’t stand, that I’ve escaped their judgement. To teach me a lesson, probably. Who else would want to keep me here? A world where no ‘harm’ can be done. Pah! Don’t they know me at all, they should know better. A planet with any kind of population can be ruled. Only, this time I need to be smarter. Watching the subjects, learn their habits and find a possibility to submit them. In the end, all of them are going to kneel! Ehehehehe.’
We can’t hear Lokis inner Monolog, but by her evil grin and by the fact, that she turned around and walks quickly into the direction she just came from, we can submit, she has something mischievous in mind.
Scene 7
Loki is entering the Tate, with a couple of tourists. It’s a mystery the guards doesn’t stop her, well maybe not, she must be already aware, of how to use her body the right way. Finally she’s in the building, surrounded by people, who stop, not far from the entrance, to admit the great hall. We can tell from the look an her face, that she isn’t impressed at all. No wonder, there are much bigger buildings in Asgard. Anger is crossing her face. As of course the building is still big and she’ll have to seek for Kevin. She wanders around, visibly relaxing. That’s the magic of art and maybe the place. We follow her, slowly now. Studying one painting after another, strolling through the halls. We might get the impression, she completely forgot about Kevin. She already made it through a few levels, when she spots him. He’s sitting in an armchair, in front of a big glass-wall, staring down at the people walking around downstairs. Loki slips into the chair next to him.
‘Did you find your cube?’ Kevin asks.
‘No …,’ she braces her head into her hands. They sit in silence for a while, watching the people who have the size of ants, from their point of view.
‘Why don’t you look at the paintings, instead of staring down there?’ Loki can’t find much amusement in doing so.
‘I like to study people. That’s my job and I can’t turn it off. Right before you’ve joined me, there was a couple sitting next to me and I’ve been listening to their fight. It was pretty interesting and I might had followed them, if I didn’t figure, you should be up here every minute. I saw you enter the building. Took you a while to find me, aye?’ Kevin leans back in his chair, finally looking at Loki.
‘I have been learning about the midgardian paintings. Some of them are quite beautiful,’ she shrugs her shoulders, ‘so you get payed for spying on people?’ We recognise interest flickering on her face.
‘Hahaha, no. Not in the way you might think. I’m a psychologist-to-be. People come to me and tell me their problems and I’ll analyse how to help them. Explains my manic interest into other peoples behaviour. Talking of it, I thought, you would be an interesting case. Would you allow me, to have a few sessions with you? You don’t have to do it for free of course.’
‘Now he comes to the point, about what he was hiding from me. I knew, this guy was up to something. Waiting patiently for his offer, so I can see, if it’s worth my time. He seems to think for a moment, probably about how to formulate it, before he speaks again.
‘As I’ve figured, you don’t have a place to stay for longer?’ he asks and I nod, ‘so in case you agree, we could come to an arrangement. You can stay in Hinas room, she’ll be away for a while. In return I want an hour every second day, where you will answer my questions honestly. Without any pressure, I promise. How does that sound to you?’
What an unique offer, he surly doesn’t know much about me.
‘I agree, but under one condition, you’ll have to answer my questions too. Do we have a deal?’
We shake hands, no more words needed. This was way too easy.’

Many ways to say I love you: Day Ten.
Kidge-a-palooza 2019 Prompt: Astound. Pairing: Kidge (VLD) Universe: Post-Kerberos AU. Status: Complete.
He watched the street lights move quickly out of the car window, like shapeless flashes that were left behind the road, somehow helping him to forget for a few seconds that he was on his way to the home of one of his officers. Keith didn't have cheers to start a conversation with the guy who had practically not closed his mouth all the way, once they had sat in the back seats of the car, too annoying and noisy for his comfort, and it had already become clear that he felt a strange hostility towards him, without understanding the reason very well. Shiro had mentioned his name at some point during the evening, but honestly, he didn't take much notice.
Keith didn't want to go to that dinner tonight. He didn't want to meet Officer Holt outside the Garrison. Although Shiro had mentioned to him that he was one of the few high-ranking adults who didn't feel rejected by his presence, part of Keith still maintained skepticism about this fact.
He couldn't help thinking about it, basically, everyone had hated him as soon as Shiro helped him into Garrison cause of his short temperament and lack of military lineage, Keith had only been a lucky boy and had some talent to pilot the ship in the way. And he didn't understand very well what to do at a family dinner, Shiro didn't give him any further instructions beyond behaving and being kind to the Holt family.
How could he be nice to people he didn't know? He had only had a brief moment with Mathew Holt a few months ago, who started talking to Shiro about the results of the investigations they found on Kerberos' ice. Then he simply disappeared from his sight, giving him a kind smile when he saw it by chance.
If only Keith had avoided fighting the boy by his side, he wouldn't have to deal with this. It was a punishment that Shiro and Officer Holt had disguised as an opportunity to strike up a more pleasant relationship with their own comrades.
''Still a long way to go, Shiro?''
''No, we'll arrive in a couple of minutes, Lance.'' Keith mentally repeated his name in case he needed to remember during the night. Lance simply started jumping excitedly in his own seat.
''I've heard a lot about Officer Holt in Garrison, although I've never spoken to him directly since science doesn't call me too much, it's like the gentleman everyone loves.''
''He is a kind person like Matt, they are loved because they have a nice sense of humor and impeccable principles. I have never had major problems with them, even when we were in space.'' He answered with simplicity. What he left thinking to Lance for a few seconds.
''I heard that Officer Holt has a younger daughter who will nominate Garrison for the next year, is that true?'' He asked excitedly, to Shiro's confusion and Keith's displeasure, who could realize his intentions under that tone of voice.
''Wow, apparently the news spread quickly.'' He joked, with a tone of concern that didn't go unnoticed by either of them. ''Yeah, Katie will be applying to enter as a pilot candidate next year. In fact... That's why you accompany me tonight.''
''Why?'' Keith inquired confused. Shiro just sighed heavily. Maybe things would go better if they knew ahead of time.
''She ... She has had certain physical encounters with her current high school classmates, which has severely worried me and Samuel in the last time.''
''What do you mean with…?''
''They broke her arm two months ago.''
''Woow ... That's pretty cruel'' It was the only thing that could come out of Lance's lips. Keith, however, was perplexed. Not even he, being as he was, had gone through those situations before or after Garrison.
''We thought it would be a good idea for her to meet some people before entering her first year, and since both are in the program and they owe me the favor of avoiding their suspension for their last meeting...''
''I understood; this is a classic situation of extortion.'' Lance joked with a slight smile between his lips. ''Don't worry, I'll sacrifice myself for a greater good.''
''Keith?'' He nodded without saying a word in between, he knew very well what it was like to be attacked without having someone to protect himself with. While tonight didn't imply that they became friends, at least one familiar face would ease the burden for the first few days, it was something he could do. Shiro smiled through the rearview mirror. ''I'm glad to know that I have your support.''
''I never expected you to be so close to Officer Holt.''
''Well, we spent together in space for several months, and he's been one of the people that has most influenced my recovery after that.''
Keith reacted to his last comment, intrigued. Taking into consideration that since his return he wasn't wearing that bracelet that sounded every certain amount of time, which he had seen many times during his outings. Keith supposed it would be a good thing.
Shiro never talked about matters involving negative news, so commenting with Lance so easily gave him the idea that his muscle problem was being treated effectively.
They stopped at the entrance of a well-kept house, where the room was lit and a couple of voices echoed inside, Keith thought it nice to see a wide variety of flowers covering the front garden, which stretched behind the house. Before going down, Shiro looked at them seriously.
''While I usually dine occasionally with the Holt family and tonight is to make Katie feel more familiar with Garrison, I don't want to end up in trouble because you don't know how to behave like adults.'' The plaintiff claimed but quickly changed to an accessible position by sighing with regret. ''Just try to be nice, okay?''
''I will behave.'' Lance answered immediately. Shiro looked at Keith, waiting for his response.
''All right, Shiro''
''Well, that's enough.''
As they walked towards the entrance, the sound of a piano resounded through the walls with more force, drawing the attention of the three, Lance and Keith were baffled at the thought of thinking of the officer or his son playing an instrument in the privacy of his family. Matt, who was sitting on the window, opened the curtain slightly to watch them walk home as soon as he heard his dog barking, getting up quickly.
The door opened immediately, showing Matt in simple clothes that gave an air of comfort. Before Shiro even said anything, he greeted them quickly and invited them with a gesture on his hand to keep quiet.
The three without understanding complied without protest.
I will always, think of you
I see your face when each day's through
As soon as they heard a voice inside the room, they understood what it was about. Officer Holt was singing a tune with his family.
And days go past
Oh so fast
But memories, they last
A soft feminine voice confused them notoriously, except Shiro, who approached enthusiastically to the room that led them, Matt. Keith and Lance looked at each other without understanding very well why his mentor's sudden change of attitude, but as soon as they saw her, their faces turned into deep amazement.
Summer Winter, year by year
I'll hear the song inside my ear
Trying to restart
That would be smart
The thoughts of you haunt my heart
Keith used to ignore women most of the time. While he seemed to have some appeal to the opposite sex, he generally didn't worry much about it, having more important things to worry about during his day-to-day life. But at that moment, it was the first time that the beauty of a woman astonished him to the point of flushing completely.
Katie was a low and notoriously thin girl, so much so, that while listening to her singing along with her father, she thought that she could take it effortlessly with just one arm. Her green dress was simple and nothing to write home about, but elegantly accentuated the natural tone of her hair, a light brown that, in suitable light, she thought could easily be golden, as it was with her brother.
I do not want to be alone now
Just bidding my time
I need somebody dearly
And darling you'd be sublime
Both were perfectly coordinated while Samuel played a simple melody with his fingers on an old piano, but Keith was not paying attention to Officer Holt, he saw himself unable to look away from his daughter, who bristled every pore of her skin with the sweetness of her voice, curiously, was much deeper than he could think at first glance of someone so tiny and small.
Keith was fascinated. As in a spell that had completely astounded him
Spring and Autumn
Up and down
I keep trying to escape this town
And I just might I'll take flight ...
As soon as Katie turned her gaze to the corridor and met his eyes, she was enveloped in a strong chill that ran down her back, scaring him for a moment, but she, with only a cheeky smile, finished the song after a few seconds on pause.
Maybe tomorrow, not tonight
...
''So, you come from Cuba, you must miss your family a lot.''
''Yeah, although I see my sister frequently in Garrison.''
Katie sighed heavily as soon as her gaze connected with Shiro, who apologized in silence while tasting her mother's salad. The intentions of him and her father had been so easy to assume that she was offended intellectually for a moment.
It is not as if it affected her at that point to be the object of mockery of all her companions with the little time she had left in high school, and the fracture of her radio hadn't been as serious as they supposed the first time, in a month already Katie was completely healthy without any consequences. But she knew that during the last conversations with Shiro, he hadn't quite agreed.
Part of her was touched by being so protected by someone like him, whom she admired about all people, even her father.
Besides, there was something in her inside that she couldn't understand yet, which heated and exalted to a strange level as soon as her eyes connected with those of the dark-haired guy.
He had seen her, not like Lance, who only managed to give a timely compliment after finishing singing with his father.
He was looking at her, stunned and confused about what to say when she was caught in her presentation. For the first time in her life, Katie had been enveloped in the astonishment of someone who wasn't her family, which generated a pleasant feeling of rejoicing.
''Katie, you've barely said a word, is everything okay?'' Questioned her worried mother, although she noticed the double intention of her words. Colleen was forcing her to talk to the guests, but she didn't feel ready yet.
''Yes, I am.'' She answered without more while chewing a piece of meat to stop responding, noticeably bothering Colleen, Matt simply sighed heavily.
''Keith and Lance are in the second year of the pilot program, right? Did you like it?''
Katie directed her attention to them with something more of interest. If they were in the pilot program it meant that they would see them more often the following year, so the assumption that Shiro had brought them to meet her was accurate.
Again, while the appointed Lance laughed with something that Matt had commented, those dark eyes fell on her, unable to look away this time.
The first impression she gave was an emo boy in all his glory. He had a heavy face that implied a rejection of the first contact, and a badly-groomed hair that even Lance had mentioned as "nasty mullet" under his breath in the night, hoping he wouldn't be heard by anyone. Katie was intrigued with him in more ways than one, something in his eyes, although he was hostile later during dinner, she was reflected in those feelings.
Something in him, he called her with an indecipherable feeling that warmed her aching heart, although she didn't know what name to place it at that moment. What made her increase her attention to those deep eyes to discover what it was.
Maybe it was the so-called chemistry? Although she couldn't know, since Shiro had been her only friend with whom she could feel it for the first time, with Keith, she had the assumption that it was something different.
As soon as Matt touched her shoulder to draw her attention to a question directed at her, Katie quickly averted her nervous gaze, hoping no one had noticed that she had been watching him more than necessary.
For a moment she assumed that everything was in order as soon as they returned to direct the conversation towards her father. When she saw Keith again, he only smiled slightly while he continued to eat from his plate, she imitated his action, her face slightly warm and somewhat disappointed to lose her look, without knowing very well the reason.
But something told her, that not only was she intrigued by other people's eyes.
Certainly, after that night, Katie was much more interested in attending Garrison, if with that she could name what she was feeling.
After all, she was a woman of science.

Talks Machina Highlights - Critical Role C2E22 (June 12, 2018)
Tonight’s guests are Laura Bailey and Travis Willingham! Baby-naming is done wheel-of-fortune-style before the show starts. Spoiler: Baron Yung Chyld. Laura: “Yeah. It’s not happening.” Also, Mark Hulmes Skypes in from England! We have the technology!
Announcements: Vox Machina: Origins standard editions are still on sale; fanart and gif of the week are now posted on critrole.com; the Talks Machina instagram account is up and running @TalksMachina!
Mark has been watching since campaign one and would get stories from Matt pre-stream. He was delighted that the timing worked out to guest in campaign two.
Cali would love to see the Mighty Nein again. She’s not used to people treating her nicely. Travis on Mark: “He was great. It’s like he’d played D&D before.” He also suspects Mark is in cahoots with Mercer for future story development.
Mark tried a lot of accents for Cali and stumbled across a good one for her when he was just messing around.
Mark wanted the black dragon background as a counterpoint for how nice and sweet Cali was otherwise. If a member of the party had tried to steal from her and she’d found out, her draconic possessiveness might’ve come out even more. She’s very embarrassed of that side of her, and the reaction by Molly and Caleb worked to calm her down immediately.
Mark talks about how welcoming everyone was for his guest spot, so that even when it got intense, he was still very comfortable and having a great time. He felt like they’d all been playing together for ages; going in, he was extremely scared and anxious, but wound up having a wonderful time. He’s told Matt he’ll fly out to LA on a moment’s notice to be on the show again.
The invisibility scroll was a gift for Cali from her foster father and was a bit of an escape rope had she needed to leave suddenly, but she decided it would work out best as a parting gift.
Travis: “I like how when guests come, there’s always a chance one of us will get a new item, whether by gift or by ganking.”
Some in-character mail is on its way from Cali!
@critrolestats for this episode: this episode had the most damage dealt by the Mighty Nein: 471 points. Also most damage taken at 208 points. Jester had the first solo HDYWTDT (she’s been part of three, two of which she shared with other members). Ashley rolled her highest initiative roll in the show’s history with a 21. Her previous record was a 20... on a natural 20 with Pike. Kiri has killed two corpses. We’re very proud of her.
Laura on the evil of the dice this week: "You know what? I punished them that night. I’m a forgiving mother, I love all my children, so I put them back in the bag.” She talks about how much more the betrayal hurts when it’s the dice she likes most.
Travis isn’t actively trying to keep anything hidden about Fjord’s backstory, but there haven’t been a lot of natural avenues to reveal it until now. There’s still a lot to come.
Jester has a bit of jealousy over the knowledge that more people worship the Traveler. “It’s kind of like, ‘But the Traveler’s always been mine!’” Travis: “Jester’s a hipster, confirmed.” Laura: “Jester’s the least hipster.” Brian: “She’s like, ‘I was into candy before you.’”
Fjord was mainly taken by the fact that there was a balance of both good and evil tokens in the cache of divine items.
Laura notes that there are voices they do in-game that make her baby start kicking. Matt’s announcer voice from the arena fight got him really worked up. Travis: “’Cause he wants to fight, let him out! Let’s do it!”
Gif of the week: the saga of Fjord with Blink.
Travis now knows that he’s allowed to move between Blinks while using the spell. “I never claimed to know what I was doing.”
It “wouldn’t be good” if Jester returned to Nicodranas. Laura: “There’s a price on my head, yo!” Travis: “How high was the price on your head?” Laura: “I don’t know if it was a price so much as they just want to kill me.”
Travis: “I think Fjord trusts Jester the most, and maybe Yasha the second. I’ve got a lot of trust for Beau, too.” Laura: “I feel like Jester probably trusts Fjord still the most, and then probably Beau after that.”
Jester loves that Beau is so willing to just roll with whatever she comes up with. “Jester isn’t used to having people around her that much. The Traveler was in and out in her childhood, and was probably the person that spent the most time with her. She didn’t have any friends growing up, so having a roommate even is totally crazy.”
Fjord was curious about the eye stone but was going to let Caleb do his normal investigation; it was Matt’s narrative push that got him to jump in. There’s also a bit of Travis sneaking through: he always has to touch hot plates at restaurants, especially right after being told not to. Laura: “He did it at a firepit!” Brian, increasingly high-pitched: “What do you expect was going to happen it was on fire!!” Laura: “He was the kid that stuck the fork in the light socket.” He was.
Jester did indeed know Vandren’s name when Fjord mentioned it, but she won’t reveal any more information than that.
Travis has done a little research into ships for this character. He loves scuba-diving, so the drowning narration was based on some personal experience/instructional guides. He got trapped under a raft as a kid and pulled from that experience as well. Fjord’s connection with the water is tied in with the strong connection Travis has had with the water all his life.
Travis ran out of both Jurassic Park and Neverending Story in the theaters. Everyone bonds over how terrifying Return to Oz was. Laura: “I loved it.”
Things get a little weird when Laura and Travis start acting out a scene in-voice. Travis: “This is what our house is like every night. We have dolls.” Brian: “This is the stupidest show.”
Fanart of the week: Caleb and the past.
Laura’s irritated at the cost for Revivify: now she has to “save all my stupid spell slots for stupid healing because people are dumb and get hurt.” and also save all her money for Revivify diamonds. Brian: “Sounds like cleric was a really good choice for you this time around. She’ll do almost something to save her friends! She’ll lift the smallest finger she’s got to get you out of a jam!” Laura: “I think everyone should buy their own diamond.” Brian: “We just learned a little bit about Jester and a lot about Laura.”
Travis: “Fjord is honest, sharing, truthful, transparent. It’s part of his... legal good alignment?” Laura: “Are you lawful good?” Travis: “Yeah. I am.” Laura: “You are lying.” Travis: “Lawful good. I am. Yup. He’s just trying to let people know what’s going on.”
Jester trusts Fjord completely. Travis states that Fjord has never lied to Jester.
Brian: “Do you want a pillow for your back? Would that make you more comfortable?” Laura: “No.” Brian: “Do you want a Matt Mercer body pillow for your back?” Laura: “Yes.”
Laura thinks the possibility of Kiri being evil is most likely to happen just through the influence of the Mighty Nein. Travis thinks she killed her whole family. Laura: “I love how innocently she stabs corpses. She’s so sweet.”
Travis: “I don’t think Fjord’s crushing on Jester.” Laura: “I don’t think Jester’s crushing on Fjord.” They’re comfortable with each other, especially since they’ve known each other the longest.
As Laura, she recognizes that Liam is trying to bring Jester into Caleb’s ritual casting, and she appreciates that it’s an overture of friendship. But Jester is so easily distracted, and her magic is so different from his, that she isn’t really appreciating the gesture. Laura hopes he continues to try, though.
Having served on ships, Fjord knows that conflict will come up and that you have to squash it quickly. He found it endearing that Beau thought to seek his counsel.
Jester doesn’t think of it as a mother-daughter relationship with Kiri. It’s more like the dolls she had when she was little: it’s just protectiveness.
Dream guest on the show? Brian: Regis Philbin. Travis: Stephen Colbert. Laura: Richard Simmons.
Laura won’t tell Jester’s age. Laura: “She’s 57 years old.” Brian: “Is that a real answer?” Laura: “No.” Fjord is in his early 30s.
Jester isn’t very comfortable with conflict. She stepped in a bit with Bowlgate, just because it touched on things she has strong convictions about, but her first reaction is mainly just to go, “Don’t fight!”
If someone Fjord didn’t know as well as Beau, like Molly and Yasha, asked him for advice, he probably would have used the opportunity to try and glean more information on them.
Talks Machina: After... Dark
Laura loves Matt/Kiri’s Jester voice. She talked to him after he did it so well as Kiri for the first time, and he very matter-of-factly said he just had to figure out the .
Laura: “You have to say ‘It’s high noon’, and then he’ll repeat it as Kiri!”
Travis and Laura aren’t shipping anybody yet. Laura: “It’s too early. Don’t get me wrong, Oskar is really hot and stuff, but you know.”
The Spiritual Weapon lollipop: strawberry-flavored. It’ll probably change flavors as Jester levels up.
Travis is interested in the possibility of some sort of Vestige getting absorbed into the falchion. Laura wonders if, if Fjord dies, all the weapons he’s eaten will fall out of him like a loot drop. Travis: “Not swallowed, consumed. I’m not fucking swallowing anything anymore, okay? Fucking autopilot Fjord just shoved it into his stomach like a normal person.” Laura thinks Matt missed an opportunity to make the absorption process be up-the-butt.
INVOKE DUPLICITY
Fjord is "a pretty good person on the inside”, and despite the ominousness of his patron, he’s going to do his best to stay on the straight and narrow.
Laura’s on a panel tomorrow at the E3 Coliseum tomorrow, probably to talk about Gears of War.
Travis: “Twilight was a better movie than The Notebook.” Brian is appalled.

Yo blue im on a super duper important quest to find really good lance centric fics, you know, that high quality top shelf kinda stuff. ive already read ur fic but im lookin for more. Got any recs????????
hey there, friend, you came to the right place! sorry this took so long, I made this whole post and then my computer was being difficult and I lost the whole thing, so this is the second time I’m making it! thank you so much for reading when I dream it happens in blue. I’ve got some great new content on the way, but in the meantime, here are some great reads to hold you over!
>
7 Times They Noticed by @em-the-cliche
Lance was alright. He was happy. He was fine. Except when he wasn’t.
“Listen. Are you alright?”“Uh…are you alright?”“Are you okay buddy?”“Are…are you in good health, paladin?“Are…are you okay, paladin?”“Hey. You okay?”
His team mates, his second family - they noticed.
A Commutual Contract by @skaylanphear
After a terrifying experience during which Lance, seemingly, dies, Keith is haunted by horrible nightmares of holding his comrade in his arms while he took his final breath. To the point where he can’t sleep unless he knows for absolute certain that Lance is alive.
And while the attention is surprising, Lance doesn’t really have a problem with Keith checking up on him. Or the fact that Keith only seems totally comforted when he can cuddle Lance close and hear his heart beat. After all, there’s nothing wrong with two bros cuddling. It doesn’t MEAN anything. Or, at least, that’s what Lance keeps telling himself.
At Rest (Five Miles Behind the Front) by @thisgirlhastales
Shiro is no longer the Black Paladin. He is no longer the commander of Team Voltron. He is a soldier without a purpose and a leader without a legion at his back.
Lance is a seventh wheel. He is not fit to be a leader, and perhaps not even fit to be a Paladin.
Or, in which two Paladins of Voltron learn their true worth, and finally, there is well-earned rest.
Beautiful Minds by PotatoBender
Lance used to be proud of his mental abilities. A pilot. A Paladin. Someone experienced with delving and controlling his mind. But after being captured, and enduring just a single encounter with Haggar, his castle was reduced to rubble.
Rescuing Lance was the easy part - healing him is much, much harder.
Blast Zone by bubblebucky
In the middle of a mission, a bomb going off leaves Lance unable to hear. Still, while he’s deaf, the rest of his team are the ones that won’t listen.
Boom Crash the Sound of My Ship by @maychorian
After a Galra attack splits Voltron, the blue lion is damaged and falls toward the jungle planet below. Shiro follows, and now he and Lance are stranded in hostile territory, fighting to survive. Lance is injured, Shiro is having flashbacks, and help is far away. And the Galra just…keep coming.
Brain storm by @trickstersgambit
Lance managed for years without too many obvious issues. Those who needed to know, knew. Until it became a problem he thought he buried in his awkward early teen years.
calling me to come back by @apvrrish
Keith is a witch who owns a shop where he breaks curses on both magical items and people under spells. Love spells, family curses passed down generations, cursed heirlooms lurking the attic – he can handle them all. But one day a boy named Lance walks into his shop, and his curse is darker and more difficult to break than anything Keith has ever seen before: the curse is draining his magic, and without his magic, Lance will die.
This is a new favorite of mine!
Dark Blue by @thunder-dor
Lance has a bad habit of comparing himself to his teammates. Lotor needs a Paladin with a weakness.
Or
Lance gets kidnapped and Keith will do anything to get him back.
This is a great fic and Jessie is a writing goddess!!!
Fighting the Surface by @tomminowrites
“Humans have shown quite the impressive drive for survival,” the Galra commander grins. “I want to see you fight against that. The druids claim drowning is quite the painful way to go.“ He tips Lance backward over the water, as Keith and Shiro struggle against their bonds. “If you surface, they die.”
Lance’s eyes widen and he’s pushed backward with a splash.
______
Keith, Shiro, and Lance are taken captive during a mission planet-side. The commander decides he only needs two paladins for interrogation, and decides to have a little fun while they wait for extraction. Lance is thrown into the deep with the threat that if he swims up for air, one of the other two will be shot. Obviously Lance would rather die than allow that.
Later chapters will, of course, deal with Keith and Shiro losing their damn minds thinking Lance just drowned himself for them.
I helped beta this one! It’s good!
Ghost of the Future & Shadow of the Past by @zizzani & @wittyy-name
When Lance is thrown through time, his future self from one year ahead is transported to the past in his place.
This Lance is faster, stronger, and markedly more mature. Not only that, but he’s distinctly more intuitive about his teammates and A LOT more touchy with Keith.
The team must try and work out how to reverse the two Lance’s places and restore them to their original timelines. Things only get more complicated when the Future Lance can’t seem to remember where he was when the switch happened, and he refuses to reveal anything about his own time for fear of influencing the team’s decisions.
Mirror fic to “Shadow of the Past” by wittyy_name
&
When Lance is thrown through time, he finds himself one year in the future, in place of the Lance that should be here.
He finds his team to be remarkably familiar, yet distinctly different. They have more scars, a better grip on the whole saving the universe thing, and over a year’s worth of teamwork to bind them together. But the weirdest part? Keith seems to be a lot more touchy with him. Not that he’s complaining… much.
The team must try and work out how to reverse the two Lance’s places and restore them to their original timelines. But despite the fact that they’re still his friends, Lance can’t help but feel a little out of place among a team that’s been through so much with a Lance that just isn’t him. And it doesn’t help that the team is on edge around him, refusing to tell him anything for fear of influencing and changing the past. Things get even more complicated when they have to rely on the team in the past to complete the switch, leaving Lance to little more than sit, wait, and attempt to fill in his future self’s shoes.___________
Mirror fic to “Ghost of the Future” by Zizzani
give out to give in by @mlp-michaeljones
So typical. So fucking typical, that Lance is the youngest and worst of his siblings, and then the kids come along and he isn’t even the cutest anymore, and he only made fighter pilot because perfect fucking Keith dropped out and even when he piloted a lion he didn’t have a thing like the others, and now he can’t even have Blue. Maybe he was the one to suggest it, but he was barrelling towards this point all along; rock fucking bottom.
When it becomes clear that Allura is a better pilot than him, Lance steps down as the Blue Paladin. It is, after all, the obvious decision. Lance is, and has always been, the afterthought.
But who needs an afterthought?
He Don’t Fuckin Care by ya_ya_rose
Lance knows how to hold his own. But he isn’t indestructible.
Huddling for Warmth: The Movie by @maychorian
The paladins are heading back to the Castle of Lions after another successful mission when Shiro suddenly realizes that something is wrong. Lance isn’t responding on the comms.
Love and Other Questions by @squirenonny
One week after news of the Kerberos disaster broke, Pidge receives a new Mark–proof that Matt is still alive. She breaks into the Garrison to find him, only to find herself caught up in the fight for the fate of the universe.
Keith keeps his arms covered so he doesn’t have to watch Shiro’s scars compounding on his skin–but doing so means cutting off contact with his romantic soulmate, who greets him each morning with a new (and terrible) pickup line.
Shiro and Matt thought they were the luckiest people alive when they found out they were going to Kerberos together. But Shiro hasn’t seen Matt’s untidy scrawl on his arm in almost a year, and he has no idea if his soulmate is even still alive.
[Canonverse Soulmate AU with romantic and platonic soulmates (and some gray areas in between)]
Perihelion by @eclecticinkling
After growing up in the shadow of war, Prince Lance of Altea would give almost anything to bring peace back to his people. So when a Galran ambassador arrives with an offer to make that a reality, Lance knows he can’t refuse. Even if it means binding himself to his enemy’s prince for as long as they both shall live.
say you’re gonna break my fall by @apvrrish
Keith tries to deal with being the leader, and also tries to deal with his feelings about Lance. It’s a process.
Keith looks up and sees Lance staring at him, head tilted at an angle. His eyes are just barely visible through the visor, but his mouth is twisted into a puzzled curve.
“Sorry,” Keith says, flushing. “Lost in thought.”
“You okay?” Lance asks, falling into step alongside him as they follow the others out of the ship.
so much more than space dust by @ad-asterism
When a cryopod malfunctions, Lance is left with amnesia. As he struggles to figure out where he fits in the new formation of the team, the rest of Voltron is racing against the clock to figure out where Lotor will strike next- and their only clue is hidden somewhere in Lance’s lost memories. Lance will have to find a way to remember what he’s missing- or come to terms with what he’s forgotten.
Taking One For The Team by YukiSetsu
A mission gone wrong lands Lance and Pidge in a dangerous situation. When communication with the rest of the team is compromised, they have to take drastic measures to escape. Pidge can only hope that they get out before things get worse and one of them breaks. Especially Lance.
The Reluctant Soldier by @banditywrites
Lance is badly injured on a mission and struggles with his role as sharpshooter.
Thirty-One Days by SidneyJean
Lance experiences loss, in all its ugly faces, for the first time after beginning his journey as a Paladin and discovers just how that changes a person over time. It…doesn’t happen the way he expected. The people around him begin to change, and so does he.
Trembling Lips by @newtsckamander
Lance is an emotional person who cries easily (and does the trembly-lip thing a lot) but tries to stay strong in front of the team.
OR
Five times Lance stopped himself from crying in front of his teammates, and the one time he couldn’t hold it back.
Universal Fates by @celty-me
Alfor, Zarkon, Trigel, Gyrgan, and Blaytz set off on missions across the galaxy to gather pieces of an artifact so Alfor can complete Voltron.
Zarkon encounters a human boy with a missing arm fighting as a gladiator.Trigel encounters an enslaved young human girl whose genius is being exploited.Gyrgan encounters a human boy who disabled a pirate ship he and his people had been chasing.King Alfor encounters a young half-galra boy who aids the king and Coran when they are cornered by bandits.Blaytz encounters an Altean boy enslaved on a slave trading planet.
Each ally feels compelled to rescue and adopt the orphans they encounter, setting the wheels of fate into motion.
While each child carries the scars of their past, they form bonds too strong to ever be broken. They will find friendship and family with each other, and maybe love, even as events threaten everything they know and care for.
wanna be known by you by @bluewriters
Sometimes Lance feels like he’s been stained blue, the colour of his lion seeping through his skin as he chokes on cold stardust, and he is drowning in waves of blue, blue ocean. Lance has never been afraid of the ocean before.
He rolls over and turns off the lights. He doesn’t sleep.
Watching You Fall by @emerald-ashes
Shiro couldn’t find Lance. He knew he was in danger after his communications ended abruptly. But he certainly wasn’t prepared to find Lance dying on the floor of a Galra base during one their missions.
Words Fail by EagleInFlight
A mind-melding exercise goes wrong, and the five Paladins are now trapped in Lance’s mind. To escape, they must delve through Lance’s memories. Lance learns that in order to save his friends, he has to stop running. But to stop running means to face the worst of himself.

I Was Feeling Epic: A Recap
And now, the end. It’s been a long time coming, but it’s still a little bittersweet. When something is a staple of your life for 8 years, it feels weird to see it go. But it’s time; it’s been time for a while. And no one knows that more than the actors, who have given their best throughout the show, but have been looking tired since maybe the fifth season. Even now, in the last episode, sometimes they just seem…tired. At least it kind of works since all the characters’ lives suck at this point, but I doubt it was intentional.
We open with Stefan trying to save Bonnie and Caroline running in, trying to give Bonnie her blood. But Bonnie isn’t drinking and Stefan’s attempts to restart her heart aren’t working either. Bonnie’s basically in limbo. She’s in a forest and Elena is in a bed in this forest. Elena wakes up and sees Bonnie and hugs her. Of course, it then dawns on Elena that Bonnie is still very young and she says it’s too early, that she was supposed to live her life. And Bonnie tells her it’s okay, she’s ready, and now she can be with Enzo. But then Enzo shows up and says what he’s been saying like the past three episodes, “Live your life Bonnie, I love you, don’t give up, it’s not time yet.” So Bonnie wakes up.
Meanwhile, Damon rushes over to the bell to stop Vicky. Vicky tells him that he can’t stop her, so he throws her out the window. Pretty effective, except she doesn’t stay dead. Matt comes in and tries to talk to Vicky; she’s happy to see him and she doesn’t want him to die, but she’s gonna keep ringing the bell every five minutes for the duration of the hour. Matt points out that she’s just gonna die again if she does that. Vicky doesn’t mind since Hell is well, hell, and she’d rather just go to nothingness than be back at that. Fair enough, but do we actually have to kill a town full of people because we’re unsatisfied with our afterlife? Maybe that kind of behavior is what landed you in Hell Vicky. What did Mystic Falls do to deserve this? That’s the real victim of this show – Mystic Falls. Nobody should live there.
Damon leaves the bell tower, where he meets up with Stefan and Caroline. They ask what the deal is and Damon says that they need to come up with some other course of action since Matt is probably gonna fail at reasoning it out with Vicky. And sure enough, Matt comes out and calls down to the police station to start evacuating the people. Because we couldn’t just keep killing Vicky or lock her up somewhere for some reason.
Damon and Stefan go back home to get Elena’s coffin – the real main character of the past two seasons. They go in and see that the coffin is open. Elena comes around the corner and rushes to excitedly hug Damon. Except it isn’t Elena, of course. It’s Katherine and she’s in a manipulating mood. She claims that she had Cade wrapped around her finger since the day she got in Hell and that she’s the reason why Cade wanted them in the first place. A claim that makes absolutely no sense in the context of the entire season, but whatever. Since they’re not getting any information out of her, Stefan stabs her and they try to figure out where Elena’s body could be hidden.
Meanwhile, Caroline and Rick are packing up the twin’s stuff and Rick tells her that Bonnie is already in the car waiting to go. Caroline tells him what’s going on with Elena’s body and that she’s gonna help look for it. Rick tells her that he thinks that’s pretty stupid because she has two kids in the car that need her and if she doesn’t get out in time then they’ll have a tragic loss. But Caroline says she can’t just leave knowing that Elena is in danger and she promises that she’ll get out in time.
Stefan finds Elena’s body at the school and he goes to get her. But when he tries to leave the room that Elena is kept in, he discovers that it’s magically bound. He can get in and out without any trouble, but Elena can’t. He calls Damon to inform him of this change. Damon at this point is confronted by a revived Katherine who says there’s no way to break Elena out of there because Kai Parker did her a favor and created that magical spell. She also decides to go for Damon’s ego by saying it doesn’t matter because in the end Elena would chose Stefan because that’s what she would do since Stefan is the better man. Damon stabs her and walks away.
Caroline goes to the school and Stefan tells her about the spell; he says that he knows that Damon would stay behind because he wouldn’t want Elena to die alone. But he can’t leave his brother there alone too. They know there’s no way that Stefan can convince Damon of leaving, so Caroline says that she’ll stay with him. But Stefan can’t have that and he tells her to go and be with her kids, that family comes first. Caroline’s crying and reminds them that they’re family now too. And he says he knows, but Damon is his brother. She cries and says “family first” and they have a sad goodbye and she leaves.
At the Armory, Bonnie sees some research that Alaric and Dorian were doing. Rick says it was kind of their last hope in being able to counteract the potential of the hellfire, but it required a massive amount of power and seemed impossible, so they kind of gave up on it. But this gives Bonnie an idea. She calls Stefan and tells him she has a plan that will save Elena (and the town).
Caroline gets to the Armory and says she’s there as promised. Rick says that’s great, but they have to get moving again. Caroline asks what’s up, and Bonnie says she’s gonna save the world. She hugs Caroline and tells her to go and that Rick will fill her in while they’re traveling.
Damon is in the tunnels under Mystic Falls and Katherine comes in to do more taunting. Damon tells her they have a plan and they’re gonna make sure that she dies. He tells her about the tunnels, a convenient plot device, that connects Mystic Falls to the Armory. Because of that convenience, Bonnie is going to draw the fire away from Mystic Falls and through the tunnels. Katherine doubts it because she doesn’t think Bonnie is anywhere near strong enough to do it. Besides that, Damon being down there to make sure she dies means that he’ll be sacrificing his future with Elena, which she thinks he’s still too selfish to risk. But of course, we know that Damon is a changed man and is willing to do this for the greater good.
However, Stefan isn’t really feeling this whole sacrifice thing; he comes into the tunnels and Damon is like, “You need to leave, especially if this actually doesn’t work. You’re human and way too vulnerable.” But Stefan, true to Stefan nature, refuses to leave and have his brother compromise his potential happiness. Katherine tries to leave while the brothers argue, but they stab her – it’s basically a running gag; she’s been stabbed after every commercial break.
Stefan thinks that it should be him because he’s still looking for redemption and he thinks Damon deserves a chance at a happy future. Damon counters that Stefan always wanted to be human and he just got married. (Let’s not forget that this is actually the same day as the wedding.) Lots of emotional back and forth, lots of tearing up on both sides, and it all ends in Damon compelling Stefan to get out of town while Stefan sadly asks him not to do it. But he can’t counteract it and he leaves.
Caroline asks Rick to tell her what is going on and he does, but it’s muted for the audience. We see Caroline starting to cry and she tells Rick to pull over. She gets out and calls Stefan and gets his voicemail. She asks him to please call her and tells him that she gets it and she understands. She’s crying but she smiles at the end when she says she understands and will love him forever. So in case this wasn’t enough of a hint –
Twist! Stefan has been taking vervain (obviously) and was never going to leave. He passed by the hospital and stole a syringe and extracted his blood, removing the cure from his body. So now his body will age rapidly. He goes back to the tunnels and tells Damon this and stabs him with the syringe, letting Damon get his chance at a happy, human life with Elena. Gee, Stefan, hope that everything works out and that Bonnie is actually successful with fixing everything. He throws Damon’s body into one of the rooms of the tunnel and grabs onto Katherine to kill her one last time.
Vicky rings the bell for the final time and the fire erupts. Bonnie successfully draws it away and through the tunnels; Damon tragically witnesses this from the safety of the room while the fire rushes towards Bonnie in the armory. She holds it back but feels too weak to keep it back. Enzo comes in to give her a pep talk about how strong she is and how she isn’t alone. Bonnie’s grandmother joins her along with the whole line of Bennett witches. Together they keep it contained and send the fire back into the bell. Stefan and Katherine burn in this.
Stefan is in limbo, at the high school. He talks to Elena tells her all about what happened. How Damon was willing to sacrifice himself for everyone and how much he admired Damon’s bravery and selflessness. He wanted Elena to have an opportunity to know that man. He says that it was his time and he’s ready. But damn, I mean, the guy didn’t even get to be married for 24 hours. He hugs her and says that he was glad he got to see her one more time; he asks her to pass along a message for him. Then he walks out, into the light. Where he’s greeted by Lexi, who he runs to hug. It’s a wonderful moment and helps drive home that yes, Stefan is dead. No twist. He’s actually gone.
But it feels kind of unnecessary because he didn’t really have to die. Every time they stabbed Katherine, she was out for a fair amount of time. They said someone had to be down there to make sure she was dead when the fire came. But there was that safe room that Damon was in, right there in the tunnels. And Katherine demonstrated that she had no powers; so she wouldn’t get out in time. Why didn’t Stefan just stab her and throw her into the fire, while being in the safety of that room? In true TVD form, Stefan and Bonnie had to be the ones to make the biggest sacrifices this season.
The last 15 minutes are commercial free, so that way everyone can get the real impact. However, these last 15 minutes are super rushed. Here’s what happens: Elena wakes up, without Bonnie having to die. She found a way to break the spell. Elena asks how she managed it and Bonne says it took time but she figured it out. I.E. It was a total cop out, but just be happy because they both get to live. Elena asks where Damon is and Bonnie tells her that he’s with Caroline, saying goodbye to Stefan. Because nothing says happy reunion like a funeral.
Damon and Caroline have a sweet bonding moment as they say goodbye to Stefan. Caroline walks out first and sees Elena and smiles. Then of course Damon comes out and sees her and they have an emotional reunion. A reunion that probably would have been much more emotional if he wasn’t burying his brother or if it hadn’t only been like two years. I get it, even two years feels like forever, true love, but 60 years… you can see what I’m getting at.
And we just finish with a super long montage. Everyone gets a diary entry.
Matt: Still the sheriff and they even give him a bench. He feels like Vicky did eventually find peace, which gives him a sense of peace. We see that he’s being watched over by Tyler and Vicky, who are happy to see him accomplishing things and making a difference. It’s actually very sweet and this is the point where I started crying a bit. As irritated as I have been by Matt for the past couple seasons, I wanted him to have a good ending. He was mistreated as much as Bonnie was really. They don’t show him after this, but I’d like to think that he found love and stopped getting into life-threatening situations every other day.
Bonnie: Decided to live her life and go traveling. She’s packing up and Enzo is there to remind her to get her passport. So even though he’s not physically there, he’s still with her, watching over her. They also don’t show further into the future for her, so I’d like to imagine that she also found love again and really did live life to the fullest. Maybe she reunited with Jeremy or ended up with Matt or found someone else great for her. I kind of hope she ended up with the best deal of them all.
Alaric: He and the girls are being watched over by Jo, who is happy to just see the girls growing up and being happy kids. He and Caroline did what they believed would have been Stefan’s last wish and convert the Salvatore boarding house into a school for the gifted. They do this with the help of Dorian and Jeremy(!). Jeremy! Who gets no lines. And who we never see reunite with his sister.
Caroline: Of course is being watched over by her mom. She’s also living her life to the fullest. The message Stefan left with Elena was for her; he did get her message that she left that night and he will love her forever. She gets a hefty donation for the school from Klaus; so perhaps that’s her happy future. Because all her friends and family are human and she’s still a vampire – a bit of a thinker.
Elena: Ended up going to medical school and living a happy life with Damon. We see that she is wearing a ring, so we know they get married. We can assume they had kids too. We know that they grow old together. We just don’t actually see any of those moments. In the afterlife, we see that Elena reunites with her family – her birth parents, her adoptive parents, and Aunt Jenna.
Damon: Also lived a full, happy life, though he obviously missed his bother. And really, the brothers were the heart of the show, even in the beginning; their dynamic and relationship was always the most interesting. That’s what kept me watching the show and that’s what I’ll miss. In the end, we see him walk up to the Salvatore home and Stefan opens the door. Damon says, “Hello Brother”.
Fade to white, title card, and it’s over.

Upcoming Macbook Worth $6450 ?
Loaded with every one of the extravagant accessories anticipated from Apple's leader workstation, the MacBook Pro has arrived, and it might appear to be somewhat unique than you recollect. Almost two years prior, Apple propelled an update of its lead workstation that would change Apple's picture until the end of time.
Coming in at simply finished a large portion of an inch thick, the MacBook Pro employs the intensity of Thunderbolt 3, a solitary port that will bolster everything under the sun. All things considered, the MacBook Pro courts some contention – a portion of these progressions bring trade off. You won't have the capacity to utilize old HDMI, USB and SD frill out of the crate, which implies you'll need to spend for connectors.
Contingent upon which variant of the MacBook Pro you go for, you may be in for a limited OLED show where the capacity keys used to be. This 'Contact Bar,' the principle fascination of the MacBook Pro since 2016, is both an offering point and one of conflict.
Sumptuous, however in no way, shape or form garish, the 2017 MacBook Pro comes at a premium. Much the same as whatever is left of Apple's list, it's worked to awe with regards to style. It won't not do anything particularly historic, the present MacBook Pro is a workstation that is to a great extent designed for experts – more than can be said for alternate individuals from Apple's MacBook family.
Cost and accessibility
At $1,299 (£1,249, AU$1,899), you can bring yourself a MacBook Pro short the Touch Bar you would some way or another find in the arrangement we were sent for audit. Remember that, as tempting as the least expensive MacBook Pro may appear, it has just 128GB of strong state stockpiling inside, making it extreme to prescribe for clients who anticipate utilizing it as their fundamental PC.
Obviously, that base MacBook Pro does not have another key component – the OLED Touch Bar that replaces the capacity keys. In the event that the Touch Bar, alongside Touch ID check, is an absolute necessity have highlight for you, you can hope to spend no under $1,799 (£1,749, AU$2,699). That is significantly more than the probably expected section level MacBook will be.
Presently, while you could basically get more stockpiling than the base setup for another couple hundred bills, the unit we investigated is a supercharged mammoth. That is expected to a limited extent to the way that it sports four Thunderbolt 3 ports, twofold that of the non-Touch Bar models, which can all be utilized to charge the gadget. Besides, the processor speed has been knock from 2.3GHz to 3.1Ghz too.
For $100 less in the US, nonetheless, you can get a Dell XPS 13 with twofold the RAM and capacity of the $1,799 MacBook Pro we've inspected here and with a more skilled Intel Core i7 CPU at that – also a more keen 3,100 x 1,800 touchscreen and in addition both Thunderbolt 3 and a SD card peruser.
Essentially, you can get the Surface Laptop, which can be arranged with a more grounded Core i7 CPU and similarly vast capacity and RAM for an entire 200 mollusks less, but with a marginally bring down determination 2,256 x 1,504 touchscreen and just two heritage ports.
Remembering this, it doesn't take a virtuoso to see that you're paying for the logo carved inverse your show, matched with an awesome trackpad and a natural working framework to boot. By and by, you can spare a wad of trade by exchanging out your old MacBook Pro to Apple itself for up to $2,500, in case you're dwelling in the states.
In case you're hoping to relax the blow of purchasing the 2017 MacBook Pro, you can discover on B&H Photo and Video in the US for $1,199 (about £903, AU$1,605). This will net you the base 13-inch display without the Touch Bar.
Plan
Fortunately, Apple's family does ponders for keeping up the MacBook Pro's sparkling notoriety as a totally wonderful and sensible processing gadget. All things considered, very little – on the off chance that anything – has changed about the MacBook Pro plan year over year, and that is An OK.
Still accessible in Apple's standard space dim or silver hues (no rose gold yet), the MacBook Pro's unibody aluminum shell is as perfect as consistently, radiating a curbed radiate through the anodization.
As far as shape factor, Apple keeps up its accomplishment of packing a 13-inch screen into a 11-inch outline a la the Dell XPS 13, however this current workstation's bezels are still somewhat bigger. Talking about screens, Apple's Retina show is as sharp and shading rich as ever, much more so with its new, proficient review P3 shading extent.
In any case, it's a long way from the most keen out there, even among its most grounded rivals, making its "Retina" claims harder than any time in recent memory to swallow. For example, the XPS 13 can be designed with a 3,200 x 1,800 QHD touchscreen, effectively bulldozing the MacBook Pro as far as unadulterated sharpness.
This is a tremendously vital point for imaginative experts working with media records that are high-determination or require such a determination to determine minute subtle elements after zooming in on a media document.
At any rate, the MacBook Pro is consistently more slender than the XPS 13 by a hair, which begins from 0.6 inches and decreases at 0.33 inches. The Surface Laptop, in the interim, is insignificantly more slender than both at only 0.57 inches.
This is the most slender and lightest MacBook Pro yet, and for that it feels comfortable in our rucksack – that is, expecting we remember it's even there. (Trust us, it has occurred amid this survey, and it was appalling.)
That Apple figured out how to make a workstation this thin and still keep up top-terminating stereo speakers, with profound and rich sound no less, ought to be praised when most other PC creators simply go for down-terminating speakers. Rather, where speakers would typically go on a Ultrabook, Apple has put admission fans that attract cool air and spit it out the back just underneath the pivot.
Without a doubt, the workstation warms up still appropriate around that region, yet said warm is far from the more touchy parts of your lap and far less sensational than with past models.
Concerning how Apple figured out how to make the MacBook Pro this thin, a key guilty party is the workstation's new console with Apple's second era butterfly component, presented in a year ago's model. The enhanced incitation gadget doesn't make the keys sit any more flush with the console deck than they as of now were a year ago, yet rather limitlessly enhances the material feel of composing.
Criticism is significantly more compelling this time around, however the key travel doesn't feel as though it's changed much, which is the point at last. The keys are sufficiently expansive so as not to miss given the absence of movement, however we're not devotees of the Escape key being consigned to the Touch Bar – something we've incidentally squeezed more than once – and the tight situating of the here and there bolt keys.
Likewise, we observe writing on this console to be louder than on Apple's more seasoned MacBook consoles, yet maybe that is because of acclimating to the expectation to absorb information.
A blended takeaway from the console aside, the new-and-extended Force Touch trackpad was an appreciated change a year ago and we're similarly as cheerful to have it this time around. Its expansive size and solid palm dismissal help tremendously with multi-contact signals and, all the more critically, exploring the working framework the simpler way, i.e. with your pointer moving the cursor and your thumb tapping the catches.
Talking about which, Force Touch comes back to the trackpad, normally, and it's honestly noteworthy. The vibration engines underneath the glass following surface vibrate to reproduce the sentiment of a mouse click, and, if Apple didn't start such a ruckus about, it we'd be unaware. This is Apple's "it just works" logic acknowledged by and by.
Contact Bar and Touch ID
While numerous have rushed to reject the Touch Bar since its presentation in a year ago's MacBook Pro model, we've descended on it with more understanding. While we as a matter of fact didn't normally come to utilize the Touch Bar much at all over the span of this survey, its essence and potential are by and by noted.
While still consigned to supporting center macOS capacities and a couple, significant outsider applications (like Adobe Suite), the Touch Bar is fantastically quick at adjusting to the job that needs to be done. The most grounded case of this is essentially the Touch Bar's worked in spell checker, which is continually recommending words regardless of how quick of a typist you are.
It's relatively similar to having the iPhone's autocorrect work on your MacBook.
We've seen tech like this endeavored previously, however not the slightest bit this strong and fast. The OLED contact show is extraordinarily responsive, and its matte covering does well to disregard glare from solid light sources – simply don't expect much in coordinate daylight. All stated, we're awed by the mechanical accomplishment that the Touch Bar is, yet trust it requires more extensive outsider help to wind up an unquestionable requirement have highlight.
However, having Siri as a catch for simple, steady access is a noteworthy also, given the wide control it has over macOS in contrast with other advanced aides.
The second bit of the Touch Bar offering is, obviously, Touch ID. While this is the second go around for the innovation, we're all things considered glad that biometric login is at last accessible on an Apple workstation. The instrument works simply as it does on iPhone, and it's similarly as speedy.
So, we've discovered Windows 10's iris-checking Windows Hello tech to be speedier and require almost zero exertion. (To accomplish this level of promptness with a Mac, you'd require an Apple Watch with the Auto Unlock include enacted.) Regardless, having the capacity to safely sign into the PC, and pay for things through Safari by means of Apple Pay, are the two highlights we'd noise for on the off chance that they weren't there.
