Note
I'm going to preface this with a note, especially because of the tone of the video.
DO NOT WATCH THE MCLEAN HOSPITAL VIDEO IF YOU ARE DISSOCIATED ALREADY / IN A VULNERABLE MINDSET, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE AN OVERT OR MORE OVERT PRESENTING SYSTEM!
The video is at this link, if you are in a safe mental state where you can watch it.
Now, onto my thoughts (excuse the possibly jumbled nature of this post, i am dissociating)
---
The disclaimer at the beginning of the video states that he cannot truly say whether or not certain people are faking DID, in the same way an anti-endo might say "well im not saying that endos are faking being a system, but i have seen these traits that show that they may perhaps be faking." He makes it clear that he does not INHERENTLY think that all systems that are like this are fake, but he DOES imply, here and throughout the video, that he believes these overt traits to be fake.
he compares these REAL SYSTEMS on tiktok and compares their traits/behaviors to those he deems fake, comparing them repeatedly to "the DID systems we know about / see and treat" and pointing out the traits that are 'malingering'. he goes through the history of DID and says that it's often always a covert thing, to hid. he mentions how his patients are often reluctant to bring up being a system at all, and don't have alters that are 'character-like" or are as "developed/distinguished".
he mentions how one system and systems like them may be malingering for monetary gain or fame. he brings up the "perks" to DID, like getting away with things or making money off of it, and how tiktok and other social media has been making those kinds of systems more common. he mentions how many systems may be playing up their symptoms, or that singlets / non-systems may believe that they are systems.
he brings up the fact that there's "good information and real systems, but a lot of misinformation and misrepresentations of systems", implying the majority or at least a large minority of systems online are malingering/faking. he briefly brings up the issues with fakeclaiming, but then goes on to explain how angry malingerers (or implied-fakers) may get when their systemhood is invalidated / when the psychologists bring up that they may be incorrect, and implies that they're harsh, and snippy and aggressive. it brought to mind the idea of walking on eggshells, which is strange for a psychologist to say about their patients
and my least favorite part is when he shows a video of someone who is explaining that "ur plurality is valid, ur real, u can talk to ur alters/headmates through notes if you want to, that's what's helped us" in the sense of like... the video being a "oh u realized ur a system! here's a tip, don't let people invalidate you because you're exploring your self/selves and yor identity and experiences." and he says "it's like a how-to guide on how to have DID/plurality", implying that the video was showing that you SHOULD fake DID or something, when it's literally just a little validation video. which is necessary with content like this whole webinar existing, or things like r/fakedisordercringe or systemscringe.
and yes, nowhere in the video does he directly say that anyone is faking, or that any of the people in the videos he showd are faking, but he only uses them as negative examples, as malingering, and there's little to no comments towards the alternatives, or explaining why a system may act overtly and how to differentiate true malingerers from just overt systems living their lives.
if he has no ideas as to why some systems act overtly, he could have interviewed people, or something. instead, he used uncensored videos of people and called their traits malingerer-traits and never even contacted them for permission, leading to upset, fakeclaiming, harassment towards those users and more trauma for them.
it's just a professional version of what you would see on fakeclaiming subredddits, with some acknowledgement of "hey fakeclaiming bad, actually, and there are real systems sometime" but barely even that.
---
this got way too long and we're still dissociated out of our mind so a tldr; the webinar featured a man who claimed he wasn't fakeclaiming peple and then went on to imply that the traits those people had were "malingering"/faking and that people encourage faking on tiktok and other social media sites, and that "real systems' don't act as overtly as these tiktok systems, that real systems are (most always) scared and ashamed and covert.
i am so sick of people talking about the mclean hospital video. how many of you people actually watched it and how many of you are just spouting information you got from secondhand sources? it's on the wayback machine, go watch it if you want to talk about it so much
