I have no idea how you do this, but it's WIP Wednesday and mer-may so have a random snippet from a WIP very eloquently titled "mermaid love triangle in the forest" it was a twitter prompt thing, also it's going to eventually be weilanzun.
Wait I can figure out how to make a cut I'm sure so people don't get this all over their dash if they're not into it. (I suck at Tumblr!)
Zhao Yunlan looks around, there aren't any sorcerer's to be seen right at this very moment, evil or otherwise, but he's pretty confident in his assessment that he's chained to the wall in a sorcerer's work room. Is that what sorcerer's call it or is it called something weird? Wait, Lin Jing always calls it a laboratory (he's not evil however, just merely annoying at times, maybe evil sorcerer's use different terminology).
Zhao Yunlan groans and tries to shake his head. It's being weirder than usual. Probably after effects of whatever spell had hit him.
He takes another look around the laboratory. It's pretty dark in there, the only light coming in through some small windows, but he can definitely see it's a whole lot neater than Lin Jing's lab. There's still things there that Zhao Yunlan would hesitate to touch, unless he wants to be short a few fingers, or quite possibly something far worse. Sorcerers are difficult like that, you never know what an entirely innocent looking thing might do to you. His current predicament being something of a testament to that, he supposes.
The light from one of the narrow windows reflects against something, drawing Zhao Yunlan's gaze. And then he just sort of stares for a while. It's a pool of water, a pretty large one all things considered. There's a raised stone ring surrounding it, but it doesn't look quite deep enough to be a bath. As he watches the previously still water ripples suddenly, the light reflecting against it flickering with the movement. Zhao Yunlan swallows slightly, because he's very sure that nothing had fallen into the water.
He tugs at his arms a little, but they're very firmly stuck to the wall. He looks down, at least his arms are next to him not up above his head, because that would get uncomfortable pretty fast. The cuffs on his wrist seem very sturdy and metal, but they hadn't really felt like it when he was trying to tug on them. They look like they should be a whole lot more uncomfortable than they feel. He tries to peer down at his legs, and manages to get a glimpse of similar metal cuffs holding his legs in place.
"Yeah, I don't think you're going anywhere, Lao Zhao," Da Qing's familiar voice says. Zhao Yunlan startles, yanking his head up and looking around once more trying to locate the cat— If Da Qing is still free—
That thought gets dashed before it even forms properly as he finally notices the cat sized cage sitting on one of the bookshelves. The fat black cat inside is staring at Zhao Yunlan, but doesn't look to be actually suffering in any way.
"So, he got you too," Zhao Yunlan says, trying not to sound like he'd just managed to get his hopes up and then had them shattered inside the span of a few heartbeats.
"Yeah," Da Qing agrees with a remarkable lack of upset at the fact. Da Qing does not like to be held captive, and definitely not in an actual cage. He is, according to Da Qing at least, the King of Cats, free to roam where he pleases. "It's not so bad. He has fish," Da Qing says
