hit 10k for nano!!
have worked on six projects total, but most of my words have been for my cheesy contemporary romance. it's so cheesy and cliche that i'm almost too embarrassed to share snippets here. but!! i will try to be strong and subject you all to my cheesiness in the upcoming days.

the funny aside to the previous post is that I started my daily writing practice in the middle of november and it wasnt until december that i was like "wait. november's nanowrimo" because i had COMPLETELY forgotten that was a thing

Finding time/energy to write has been really rough lately, but I have ordered a Bluetooth keyboard so I can write on my phone during lunch breaks. So hopefully that will help!!

Note
What does “nnwm” stand for?
nanowrimo (national novel writing month)! we’ve been using it as shorthand for the yet unnamed novel we’re gonna work on during nanowrimo

NaNoWriMo Day 1
I'm using Tumblr to document my progress this year, as well a connect with any other writers to help keep me accountable! My pen name on NNWM is phoenixsnaps - feel free to add me as a buddy!
Current word count: 1211
Current plan: fantasy/adventure. Novelising some of the D&D adventures for one of my regular games.
Goal: Hit 50k words, keep the momentum, get back into the writing swing. Once upon a time I used to spit out thousands of words without thinking; past corporate career burnout and other adulting factors have hit that area of my brain very hard so I'm looking to reclaim it.
Stretch goal: 50k with a reasonable conclusion to the story. I've completed NNWM before (a long time ago) but it was always 50k of much bigger tales that remain incomplete.
Pros:
A large range of characters and plot points already exist to draw from.
It's all homebrew so I don't need to worry about actual D&D / Forgotten Realms lore.
I'm the Party Notetaker so I have a huge pile of notes and context to build on.
We're currently on hiatus on this campaign but due to pick it up again 2024 so it'll be a good creative refresher for these characters.
We're level 11 so some big arcs have already concluded to write about.
Overall, shouldn't need too much planning or research to keep creative momentum going for the NNWM exercise.
Cons:
It's an active campaign and there's some big unknowns in campaign lore that I only have theories on, so I'll need to find a point where I'm comfortable moving away from "party canon" so I don't muddy the current stories.
There may be too many characters.
And too many arcs.
I'm worrying about the audience of the story already when I should be focusing on the writing itself.
I'm liable to get distracted by many things.

nano update!
finished today’s writing with over 1000 new words for the first time since mid-last week, which is exciting! still way behind official par (15,122/21,667), but i told myself i wasn’t going to worry about that this year. just gotta keep chipping away a few words at a time.
with Just Jane stalled (will connect next time we’re awake & functional at the same time @akindofmagictoo), i’ve been working on CAMRR WIP (the contemporary romance) and Snowy WIP. i also wrote a few new paragraphs for Open Seas and Dead Man’s Mesa which was a pleasant surprise.
summary: many wips. not so many words. now must sleep.

If I may:
69 (Nice) - write 69 pages in 69 days (Nice)
404 ERROR - allow yourself 404 words that you may completely delete later because they're cringe
Blackjack/21 - write as much as possible, but if you go over 2100 words you get the next day off
ChatGP-eat-my-ass NNWM: Use Chat GPT to send a strongly worded tweet to NaNoWriMo. No limits or penalties for this one
Sunny-Side-Up: cook, but only on one side. Do your best at one thing but don't flip and break your yolk (brain)
Seriously fuck NNWM
Instead of doing NanoWriMo I will be doing something where I try to aim for writing an actual average of 400 words a day for the month of November in memory of Terry Pratchett, who as far as I know never thought telling a computer to write a book for you is a good way to hone your skills as a writer.
