Our model, Hales brought two tops to choose from for the mermaid section of the photoshoot. Jeanne and I both picked the same top separately. We loved the natural look to it...from the ornate shells to the fishing net to the little dangly pearls that hung off of them. It went with the theme perfectly. We then used Jeanne’s engagement ring and my wedding band to complete the married mermaid look. Not sure how she didn’t complain, but Hales was leaning on uncomfortable rocky shoreline. Our "groom" for the Mermaid shoot at Mallard Island was the hubby of the hairdresser for the shoot. He was such a champ. Getting up at the crack of dawn. Lifting a mermaid off the ground and placing her into the tub...and then out of the tub and into the water...and then smiling at a woman who wasn't his wife, while his wife directed him on how to hold the models hand. Haha. And then at 10AM, he went to work! How much does that tub weigh? Between 300lbs-400lbs. It took four of us to move it onto the beach (but Jeff did most of the work.) We dropped it off the day before the shoot and I actually asked Jeff if he thought it was safe to leave it there overnight. It was quite fun watching Hales maneuver her tail. After it got wet, it kept flipping back up and showering her with wet drops. There is an antique store about 4 minutes from my house. Three years ago, I saw a clawfoot tub sitting outside the shop. I would eye it up every time I passed the shop, thinking about how cool it would be to buy that tub and use it for a shoot. I must have passed it by over a three month period, all the while planning what I would do with it once I got it. Convince Jeff to let me buy it. Buy it. Get it into our garage. Take it to the shore and stick it in the sand. Bring it home. Make it over. Put it in my new bathroom.
