Reposted from @tsemrinpoche "We Mongols are emancipated. ‘A good horse and a wide plain under God’s heaven’, that’s our desire. And we realise it." A woman born before her time, Princess Nirgidma spent her life defying expectations. Celebrated not only as a great beauty, her intelligence and sharp wit captured the imagination of men of the period who were more accustomed to demure women. In fact, interactions of this independent Mongol princess made such an impression, they came to be immortalised in the accounts of many famed explorers. Being married to a French diplomat meant that Nirgidma went on to live in Afghanistan, Laos and Thailand. She would also be dispatched as a journalist to Palestine, Morocco, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Tunisia, to offer a commentary of the political developments there. But no matter where she lived, Nirgidma never forgot her Mongol roots and remained devoted to preserving and promoting her culture. This incredible woman also happens to be the grandaunt of H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche and her fascinating life is captured here 👉🏼 https://bit.ly/PrincessNirgidma ➡️ link in profile #inspirational #Mongolian #Mongolia #Mongol #MongolianPrincess #Royalty #Princess #Buddhism #Buddhist #tsemrinpoche #tsemtulku #spiritual #TibetanBuddhism #Tibet #Buddha #Wisdom #GoodReads #WhatToRead #blessings #history #meditation #culture #instagood #instalike #positivevibes www.tsemrinpoche.com www.dorjeshugden.org - #regrann https://www.instagram.com/p/CBkCWXOpFhv/?igshid=1415nmsce01au

This portrait of Princess Nirgidma of Torghut is from a series of 50 drawings and paintings made by Alexander Yakovlev during the 1931-1932 expedition of Central Asia sponsored by André Citroën. The expedition, intended to show the power of the motor vehicle, was known as Croisière Jaune and it was the third mission led by Georges-Marie Haardt and Louis Audouin-Dubreuil.
