Nirei's been so aware of his shortcomings this entire time. He knows how strong everyone at school is and it's no secret he doesn't measure up.

But everyone likes him! These are his friends! He is at a school for fighters and he can't fight and everyone still likes being around him.

If he wants to go to a fight he can go to a fight, no one's gonna tell him he can't risk himself when they're all risking themselves. They have his back because they all have eachothers back and he's one of them I ahahajsinrvft

Like the reason he's pushing himself is to return the kindness he's been shown. Like if his friends had pushed to keep him completely out of each fight I can see a Nirei who just gets more discouraged and withdrawn as time goes on. But they didn't! He told them he wanted to get stronger and they supported his efforts and kept him safe when things were above his paygrade.

It's a perfect recipe for growth! He tell people his limits and they trust that he knows himself. And he can do that because he can have faith he won't be shamed for whatever level he's at. Because these are his friends and they like having him around! They'll put him on their back when he can't walk and tell him how cool his notebook is. And they'll mean it cause why wouldn't they! They genuinely like Nirei for who he is.
