Dancing Through Life
There once was a girl who loved to dance. She loved to twirl and pirouette without care. She laughed as she lept into the air with reckless abandon. She loved imagining brilliant pieces of movement to the rhythm of music. She loved performing in recitals and the creative chaos that came with it. While not a professional, she enjoyed it and carried that bliss with her every day.
Years later, her little sister took up dance. A naturally talented, flexible little acrobat, her sister brought her so much joy. After hanging up her ballet shoes, she became the best ‘dance sister’ she could be. She attended competition after competition, sometimes spoiled her sister and friends to lunch, and snuck them into hidden studios/rooms. She watched not only her sister but other studios’ brilliant works of art performed in front of her and she loved it. After winning several titles, her sister eventually lost her passion and turned her attention to other hobbies(as we all do).
That girl is now an adult. While her sister stopped competing years ago, she traded her dance shoes for figure skates. Once again with that reckless abandon, she throws herself into the air, spins like a tornado and puts those creations in her head to life. She finds joy each day she gets to step onto the ice. Even now, while quarantined, she enjoys preparing herself off the ice, spinning on a disc, and creating more masterpieces to one day bring to the ice. She is by no means a professional, but she loves every minute of it and will continue to skate as long as her body holds up.
That girl of course was me and that passion for dance started here.

On my mission of making joy a priority, I can’t help but look into that girl’s eyes and take myself back to the simple joy that existed. I remember what raw passion feels like and will use it to fuel my life. I for one will take time each day to indulge in my passions and fuel the fire of joy.
