The moment Nico slipped the ring onto your finger, the world seemed to explode around you. His teammates were cheering, fans were screaming, and somewhere in the chaos, Jack Hughes was loudly declaring, “ABOUT TIME!”
But before you could even process it all, a pair of strong arms wrapped around you—Katja Hischier, pulling you into the warmest, tightest hug.
“Oh, sweetheart,” she whispered, her voice thick with emotion. “We have been waiting for this moment for so long. Welcome to the family—officially.”
Your heart clenched as you hugged her back, feeling the weight of her words settle deep in your chest. You’d always felt like a part of their family, but now? Now, it was real.
Before you could say anything, Rino Hischier stepped forward, his usual reserved demeanor softening as he placed a firm hand on Nico’s shoulder. He turned to you with a rare, proud smile.
“You make him happy,” he said simply. “That’s all we could ever ask for.”
Your fingers curled tighter around Nico’s, your emotions threatening to spill over again. “And he makes me happy.”
The moment was interrupted by a loud groan. “Finally!”
You barely had time to react before Nico’s younger brother, Luca, practically tackled you in a hug before shaking his brother’s shoulders. “Seriously, I was starting to think you’d wait until retirement to do this.”
“Hey!” Nico protested, laughing as he shoved him back.
Luca smirked. “I mean, I knew from the first time I met her that she was stuck with us forever. Guess I was right.”
“You say that like it’s a bad thing,” you teased, making Luca chuckle.
Then, just as you thought you could catch your breath, Nina burst forward, practically vibrating with excitement.
“Oh my god, do you have any idea how hard this was to keep a secret?” she blurted, grabbing your hands to stare at the ring on your finger.
Your eyes widened. “Wait… you knew?”
“Of course I knew!” she exclaimed. “Me, Jack, and Jesper were the only ones Nico told! And do you know how impossible it is to not slip when you talk to someone every day?”
Jesper Bratt appeared beside her, laughing as he threw an arm around Nico’s shoulders. “I deserve a medal for keeping my mouth shut,” he joked. “I almost slipped, like, a hundred times.”
Nico chuckled, shaking his head. “I was half-expecting Jack to ruin it somehow.”
Jesper smirked. “Oh, we all were. But lucky for you, he was too busy talking about himself to notice.”
Nina rolled her eyes before turning back to you, her expression softening. “But seriously, I’m so happy for you guys. You’ve been part of our family forever, but now it’s official. And I couldn’t imagine anyone better for my brother.”
Your heart swelled as she pulled you into a tight hug, and you let yourself sink into the moment.
Nico looked around at the people who meant the most to him—his teammates, his family, and the love of his life standing right beside him, wearing the ring he had picked out months ago.
And as he wrapped his arms around you, pulling you close despite the roaring crowd, he knew one thing for certain.
This? This was everything he had ever dreamed of. And the someday came true.

ANYTHING THAT CAN GO WRONG WILL GO WRONG | Nico Hischier x Reader
SUMMARY: Nico wants to marry you. He's more sure of that than anything else. Things just aren't going according to plan.
Warnings: no warnings, just fluff and a lil bit of murphy's law -> happy endingggg!! Author's Note: I'm baaaaaack~~~ Happy 2025! Here's a quick lil thing to start us off this year! Thanks for tuning in MWAH
If there was one thing Nico was sure of, it was that he wanted to marry you.
He wanted to plan a wedding with you—debating seating arrangements and floral designs, choosing party favors, and having all the little arguments couples have before they find a compromise. He wanted to go on a honeymoon, maybe to Costa Rica like he’d always dreamed, or maybe somewhere else you’d want to go. Maybe both. It didn’t really matter to him, as long as you were together. He wanted to see you walk down the aisle, knowing he’d be wiping away tears as he watched you walk closer to him, step by step, towards your shared future.
He wanted to carry you across the threshold of your new home, to go furniture shopping and hang pictures on the walls. He wanted to decorate a nursery, pick out toys, and watch you laugh as you played with your child—a little person who was so perfectly both of you.
From waking up beside you each morning to arguing and making up, to coming home to you after a long, tiring day—he wanted it all. He wanted everything with you: the good, the bad, and all the imperfect, fleeting moments in between.
He has it all planned out. He’s gotten a reservation at the restaurant you had your first date in, complete with the course you had the very first time you went. Unfortunately, they said he couldn’t just reserve a specific table but they did offer him a private area that overlooks the city, so it wasn’t too bad. He’s made sure they have your favorite wine on hand, and your favorite cocktails too just in case you were feeling it that night.
After dinner, he’d take you to the ice cream parlor where you’d kissed him on the cheek for the very first time. He’d already called to confirm they still had that one niche flavor you loved—the one he was pretty sure only you ever ordered. Then, to end the night, he’d bring you to the little bookshop café where you’d shared your first real kiss.
There, he’d tell you he loved you. He’d tell you how much your smile and your laugh meant to him, how you made him a better person because you inspired him to be the best version of himself. Because he wanted to be the best person for you. He’d list all the little things he adored about you, and then he’d say what he’d been holding in his heart for so long: he wanted to spend the rest of his life with you. He wanted to grow old together, hand in hand.
And then, he’d kneel down and ask you to marry him.
If he was lucky—and he knew in his heart he would be—you’d say yes.
So, why has nothing been going his way?
Summers in Switzerland were one of Nico’s favorite things in the world. The weather, the views, the precious time spent with his family—Nothing could beat it. The cool breeze that wasn’t too cold, the ideal weather for hiking through the nearby mountains with his siblings, the serene lake perfect for lounging and sneaking in lazy afternoon naps—it was heaven. Most importantly, he got to see one of his favorite views: you lounging around in your swimsuits. The summer music festivals also added to the magic, offering nights filled with dancing to everything from EDM beats to indie melodies, with stolen kisses tucked between songs. Everything was just…perfect.
But it was during what was supposed to be an idyllic lake day that things began to unravel.
He and Luca were on the porch, getting the grill ready for lunch. They worked and chatted side by side, oiling the grates, filling the drum with coal, and securing everything in place. From the corner of his eye, Nico spotted you and Nina lounging by the pier, chatting and sipping the margaritas you’d mixed earlier. You were all smiles, relaxed in a way that made his heart swell. He loved how effortlessly you fit in with his family. It only strengthened the resolve in him to officially make you a part of it.
He gave Luca a pat on the back before heading toward you, his steps light, his mood lighter.
“Well, we’ve talked about it, but maybe we’re both not there yet,” he heard you say as he approached, “I mean, I am. But I don’t know if he is.”
“Oh, you’re both there,” Nina replied confidently, her voice teasing and certain, “Trust me.”
“You think so?” Your voice softened, and Nico could almost picture the way your lips curved into a smile. As he got closer, curiosity stirred in his chest. What were you two chatting about? There wasn’t much you hadn’t discussed or aligned on. Communication was a cornerstone of your relationship.
Then Nina spoke again, her voice laced with the telltale looseness of someone a little too tipsy. And just like that, everything clicked.
“Oh, honey, you should’ve seen the ring!”
Nico froze, his stomach flipping. He saw the instant regret flash across Nina’s face—eyes wide as she processed saying something she shouldn’t have.
“What ring?” you asked, tilting your head in curiosity, the gears in your mind already beginning to turn.
But Nico wasn’t about to let you connect the dots. Not yet.
“Nina!” he called out, his voice cutting through the summer air as he quickened his pace, “Luca needs you with the grill!”
Nina turns back, a wave of relief flashing across her face as she downs the rest of her drink in one swift motion. "Tell him I’m coming!" she calls out, her voice a little too cheerful as she rises from her seat.
Before rushing off, she leans down to give you a quick hug, murmuring just loudly enough for Nico to hear, “I didn’t say anything.”
Nico rolls his eyes as she brushes past him, clearly trying to cover her tracks. The damage was already done, but he wasn’t about to let it spiral further.
He stalks closer, his annoyance melting away as his gaze settles on you. You’re lounging in one of his shirts, the oversized fabric falling to the middle of your thighs, the sleeves brushing your forearms. The way it drapes over you makes his heart flutter—like you belong to him in the most effortless, natural way.
“Hi, baby,” he says, his voice warm as he leans on the armrest of the thick lounge chair you’re perched on.
You look up at him, your brows slightly furrowed, your lips parting as if to speak. He knows that look—you’re trying to piece together what Nina let slip, to draw some kind of answer from him without having to ask outright.
He doesn’t give you the chance.
Reaching down, he picks up the margarita you’d been nursing and takes a slow, deliberate sip, all while keeping his eyes on yours. “Mmm,” he hums appreciatively. “This is good. You make the best drinks, you know that?”
“Honey.” Your voice is sharp with curiosity, your eyes narrowing ever so slightly. “What ring is she talking about?”
He chuckles, a soft sound meant to disarm you as much as his grin—a grin he hopes doesn’t betray his nerves. “Nina’s just had a little too much to drink. It’s nothing you need to worry about.” He shrugs, aiming for nonchalance.
Not yet, anyway.
You tilt your head, skepticism written all over your face. It’s clear you’re unconvinced, and Nico can feel a bead of sweat trickling down his back despite the cool summer breeze. He knows you well enough to sense that you’re on the verge of figuring it all out. He also knows you’re kind enough to let him off the hook, to leave the surprise intact—if only because you love seeing him squirm just a little.
A knowing smirk tugs at your lips, your eyes sparkling with amusement. “Alrighty,” you say, drawing out the word teasingly. “If you say so.”
Nico exhales a small breath of relief, his grin widening.
“Did Luca actually need help with the grill,” you ask, arching an eyebrow, “Or did you just want to steal my drink?”
He laughs, leaning down to press a soft kiss to your forehead. “Who knows?” he murmurs, handing the glass back to you.
As the two of you settle back into the quiet, the soft lapping of the lake filling the space between you, Nico can’t help but smile to himself. He’d already bought the ring—in the exact cut you wanted, with the metal band you’d once hinted was your favorite—and it was scheduled to arrive soon.
The moment Nina had so carelessly hinted at was fast approaching, and he couldn’t wait to see the look on your face when it finally happened.
It was rare for Nico to have an entire free day to spend with you, which made the moments all the more special when they came around.
The day had started perfectly. He woke up to find your arm draped across his middle, your soft breaths tickling his skin. For a moment, he stayed there, watching your peaceful frame, memorizing the way the morning light kissed your face. Eventually, he slipped out of bed, careful not to disturb you, and made his way to the kitchen to prepare breakfast.
When you woke up, you found him at the stove, flipping pancakes with practiced ease. The smell of bacon and coffee filled the air as you padded over to wrap your arms around his waist, pressing your cheek against his back. You ate together, sharing syrupy bites of pancakes and stealing sips of each other’s coffee.
After breakfast, you both moved to the sink. It turned into a dance of domestic harmony—you washed the plates while he dried them, sneaking in playful splashes of water that made you both laugh.
Later, you got ready together. In the shower, he lathered shampoo into your hair while you ran soapy circles across his back. When you stepped out, he sat you on the bathroom counter, your lips forming a dramatic pout as you begrudgingly trimmed his beard.
By mid-morning, you were tangled together on the couch, a blanket draped over you as a show played in the background. His arm rested beneath your head, your legs stretched across his lap. It was his own little slice of heaven, perfect and untouched by the outside world.
And then, you said you had errands to run.
“It’ll only be for a few minutes,” you promised, stroking his head with a teasing grin as he groaned in protest.
“Fine,” he relented, though his pout remained firmly in place. He basked in the soft kiss you planted on his lips before you grabbed your bag and turned to leave.
The door clicked shut, and the silence that followed felt too loud. He sighed dramatically, sinking deeper into the couch. Reaching for a pillow, he hugged it against his chest, letting it stand in as your replacement.
With you gone, he turned his attention back to the show, finding himself unexpectedly drawn into the plot. Still, every so often, his mind wandered to you—wondering how long the errands would take, what you might bring back, and how soon he could coax you back into his arms.
He sighs. Even a few minutes felt too long without you.
It takes an hour for you to return, your tote bag filled with simple ingredients for a late-lunch-early-dinner combo. Nico perks up from the couch as soon as he hears the door open, his pout fading into a grin. In your hands, he spots a small brown package, which you place on the kitchen island before unloading the groceries.
“I ran into the delivery guy on my way back,” you explain casually, arranging the fresh vegetables in the fridge. “This came for you.”
“Ah,” he says, pausing the show he was watching. “Must be the hoodie I ordered a few days ago. I was wondering when it would show up.” He glances over, smiling. “Wanna open it?”
“Open my new sweater?” you tease, shooting him a knowing look as you retrieve a pair of scissors from the drawer. “Don’t mind if I do.”
He chuckles, shaking his head. He knows full well that every hoodie of his eventually finds its way into your closet.
Carefully, you slice open the tape and pull apart the packaging. But instead of a soft bundle of fabric, you reveal a small box, no larger than the palm of your hand.
You pause, curiosity piqued. It doesn’t look like a hoodie, and for a moment, you think maybe it’s one of his surprises for you—a pair of earrings or a delicate necklace, perhaps. With a small smile, you lift the lid of the box.
Inside, nestled against a soft velvet lining, is a ring.
It’s not just any ring. It’s the ring. The one you’d described to him in passing all those months ago. The gemstone, the cut, the metal band—every detail is exactly what you’d envisioned, as if he’d plucked the idea straight from your heart.
Your breath catches, and your vision blurs as tears spring to your eyes. It’s not just the ring—it’s what it represents. The thought of him listening so carefully, of him tucking away every detail you’d shared, hits you like a wave. You already knew he loved you, that he listened to you, but seeing it embodied in something so meaningful overwhelms you.
“Baby?” Nico’s voice pulls you back. He’s standing behind you now, concern etched on his face. “What’s wrong?”
You turn to him, your lips trembling as you hold up the small box. His eyes flick down, and the moment he recognizes it, his heart drops.
The very box he chose so carefully. The very ring he agonized over, wanting every detail to be perfect for you. The very thing he’d been planning to surprise you with, just a few weeks from now.
For a second, neither of you speaks. The air feels charged, suspended between panic and love, between what was supposed to be and what is now.
“I…I wasn’t supposed to see this, was I?” you finally say, your voice soft, tinged with both awe and regret.
He rubs the back of his neck, letting out a breathy laugh. “No, not quite yet.”
You place the box down on the counter, turning to him fully. “But you were going to ask me?”
He looks at you, his nervous energy fading as he takes your hands in his. His thumb brushes over your knuckles, a smile tugging at the corner of his lips. “Yeah,” he admits. “I was.”
“You want to marry me?” Your voice trembles, thick with emotion.
He nods.
The tears fall freely then, happy and unrestrained, as you throw your arms around him. His hold on you is firm and protective, his heart pounding against your cheek as you press against his chest.
“The answer is yes,” you whisper, your words muffled by his shirt but carrying all the weight of your feelings. “You know that, right? It was always going to be a yes.”
“I know.” His voice is soft as he kisses the top of your head, his lips lingering there. “But I want to do this right. I’m going to propose properly—on one knee and everything.”
You lean into his touch as he cups your cheek, his thumb wiping away a stray tear. “Is that okay?” he asks, his gaze earnest.
You smile, your heart filled with nothing else but love for the man holding you in his arms. “It’s perfect.”
Today was the day.
After months of careful planning, of waiting for just the right moment, Nico was finally going to ask you to marry him. Every detail had been meticulously thought out, adjusted, and readjusted after that fateful day you accidentally found the ring.
The memory still made him cringe. He’d quickly hidden it in a new, foolproof spot (his gym bag—a place you never ventured) and rescheduled everything. The bookstore café was unfortunately booked for an event tonight, but the ice cream parlor was still part of the plan, and the dinner reservation at the restaurant where you had your first date was secured.
He’d chosen tonight—your anniversary—for the proposal because it felt just right. The date was sentimental enough to mean something but obvious enough for you to dismiss it as “too cliché.” It was perfect. You would never see it coming.
“Nico, can you help me zip up my dress, please?” Your voice called out from the changing area of your shared bedroom, pulling him from his thoughts.
He turned to see you standing in front of the mirror, the white dress he’d picked out for you half-zipped, slipping precariously off your shoulders. You looked stunning—effortlessly radiant, like you always did—but tonight, something about seeing you in that dress made his heart skip a beat.
“Of course,” he said, his voice soft as he walked over to you.
His hands brushed lightly against your back as he grasped the zipper, pulling it up slowly. But he couldn’t resist leaning down to press a kiss to your bare shoulder. Then another, and another, his lips trailing up your neck in a way that made you laugh softly, tilting your head to the side to give him more room.
“Nico,” you chided, though your tone was anything but stern.
“What?” he said, grinning against your skin. “You’re gorgeous. Can you blame me?”
He finally finished zipping up the dress, his hands lingering on your waist as he turned you to face him. “You’re breathtaking,” he murmured, his eyes focused on yours.
You rolled your eyes playfully but couldn’t hide your smile. “You’re just saying that because you picked the dress.”
“Maybe,” he teased, leaning in to steal a quick kiss. “But you’re always breathtaking to me.”
Your cheeks flushed, and he couldn’t help but feel a surge of pride at the sight. He was going to make you blush like that every day for the rest of your lives, starting tonight.
“Whatever you say, Captain Smooth-talker,” you said, shaking your head but still smiling, “If we don’t leave soon, we’re going to miss our reservation.”
He nodded, his heart racing with anticipation. “You’re right. Let’s go.”
He took a deep breath as he grabbed his jacket. Tonight was the night. By the end of it, if you hadn’t changed your mind, you’d be his fiancée.
The two of you arrive just in time to be seated at the table Nico had carefully arranged. The private area overlooked the city, the lights from the streets below twinkling like a sea of stars. It was breathtaking, but not nearly as much as the way you looked as you gazed out at the view.
“Honey, this is beautiful” you say, your lips curving into a soft smile as you sat down.
“Not as beautiful as you,” he replied smoothly, earning an eye-roll and a bashful grin from you.
The waiter arrived promptly to take your drink orders, and soon, the meal began. The first plates brought out were appetizers—delicate and artfully arranged. But Nico knew you well enough to know that, for you, the true star of the opening act wasn’t the small plates but the breadbasket that accompanied them.
“God, this bread is amazing,” you said, your eyes lighting up as you took a bite.
Nico chuckled, watching you enjoy the fresh, crusty loaf slathered in butter. “I had a feeling you’d like that.”
“You know me so well,” you teased, reaching for another piece.
“I try,” he said with a chuckle, though the statement carried more weight than you realized. Tonight was all about how well he knew you—what you loved, what made you happy, and what kind of future you dreamed of.
The entrees arrived next, perfectly timed to follow the appetizers. Nico tried to focus on his meal, but his mind was racing. The ring in his jacket pocket felt heavier than it had any right to, as if it was reminding him of the significance of what he was about to do.
He stole glances at you throughout the meal, his heart swelling every time you laughed at something he said or leaned closer to share a bite of your dish. You were the person he was going to spend the rest of his life with, and tonight, he was going to make it official.
As the plates were cleared and the waiter offered dessert options, Nico mentally rehearsed what he was going to say. He cycled through his bullet points, recalling the memories he wanted to highlight—the milestones, the quiet moments, the inside jokes only the two of you understood. Every detail of your relationship had led to this moment, and he wanted to do it justice.
While you shared a slice of cake, he alternated between admiring the way your eyes lit up with every bite and fine-tuning his speech in his head. The sound of your laughter when you joked about how you could live on this dessert alone was enough to settle his nerves for a fleeting moment.
“Here,” he said, offering you the last bite of cake with a smile.
You took it gladly, humming in delight as you savored the sweetness. Nico couldn’t help but grin. This was what he loved most—seeing you happy, knowing he was part of the reason why.
He shifted slightly in his seat, reaching for his jacket draped over the back of his chair. This was it. The moment he had been planning for months. Everything was about to fall perfectly into place.
His fingers slid into the inner pocket, brushing against the fabric as he searched for the small velvet box.
Except it wasn’t there.
His heart stopped.
He stilled, trying not to let his expression betray the rising panic inside him. Discreetly, he checked the pocket again, this time more frantically.
Nothing.
His breath hitched as he patted down every pocket—inner, outer, even the ones he knew he wouldn’t have used. It wasn’t there.
Panic tightened in his chest.
You tilted your head, noticing his sudden fidgeting. “You okay?”
“Uh—yeah,” he said quickly, forcing a smile that didn’t reach his eyes. “Just…thought I forgot something, but it’s nothing important.”
It was a lie. A big one. Because what he’d forgotten was the most important thing of all.
The ring.
His mind raced, retracing his steps from earlier in the day. And then it hit him like a freight train. It wasn’t here. It was still at home, tucked away in the hidden compartment of his gym bag where he’d stashed it months ago for safekeeping.
Fuck.
He glanced at you, trying to keep his composure. You were oblivious to the turmoil raging inside him, busy taking a sip of your drink and remarking on how beautiful the view looked under the night sky and how the restaurant has always been one of your favorites.
He was supposed to be getting down on one knee right now, asking you the question that had been on his mind for what felt like forever. Instead, he was sitting here empty-handed, grappling with the colossal oversight that threatened to derail everything he had planned.
Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.
Resigned, he sighs quietly.
At least you’d still get your ice cream afterwards.
For the rest of the night, Nico’s heart raced as he scrambled to act normal, though he knew he was failing miserably.
“You’re acting weird,” you said from the passenger seat, concern etched on your face as you took another bite of your ice cream. “What’s wrong, hun?”
“I’m fine,” he mumbled, gripping the steering wheel tighter than necessary. “Just…a little tired, I guess.”
Understatement of the year.
You hummed in response, a little unconvinced, but quickly launched into a happy recount of the night—the food, the breathtaking view, how much the evening reminded you of your first date. Nico nodded along, forcing a smile and interjecting when he could, though his mind was racing. He was relieved to have deflected your attention, but the frustration simmering inside him was relentless.
How could he have forgotten the one thing that mattered most? The question plagued him, cycling in his mind like a broken record. He needed to clear his head, or else the night would spiral even further.
Without warning, Nico pulled over to the side of an empty road, the car coming to a gentle stop next to an open field bathed in moonlight.
“Nico?” you asked, confused as he unbuckled his seatbelt and got out of the car. You watched him for a moment, his silhouette illuminated by the glow of the streetlights and the faint flicker of fireflies in the distance. Concern gripped you, and you quickly followed, calling after him as he walked into the field.
“Nico, what’s wrong? Please, just talk to me,” you pleaded, your voice soft but insistent as you reached him.
He turned to face you, his expression shadowed by a mix of guilt and vulnerability. For a moment, he didn’t say anything, just looked at you—really looked at you. The way the light caught in your eyes, the slight furrow of your brows, the way the wind tugged at your hair. Even like this, worried and uncertain, you were breathtaking.
A pang of guilt hit him like a punch to the chest.
Taking a deep breath, Nico reached for your hand, lacing his fingers with yours. “I wanted tonight to be special,” he said, his voice low and almost apologetic.
You tilted your head, confusion softening your features. “What do you mean? It’s our anniversary—it is special.”
“Not like that,” he said, shaking his head. He stepped closer, his hesitation palpable. “I…I forgot something tonight.”
Your frown deepened. “Did we leave something at the restaurant? We can always go ba—”
“No,” he interrupted, his voice a little firmer this time. “It’s not about the restaurant. I forgot something important, and I couldn’t…I couldn’t do what I wanted to do.”
“Nico?” you asked again, your voice laced with curiosity and a flicker of nervousness.
He closed the distance between you, pulling you closer until you could hear the rapid thrum of his heart. His hands trembled slightly as they held yours, the weight of the moment pressing down on him.
“I’ve been planning this for months,” he admitted, his voice barely above a whisper. “I wanted everything to be perfect—the dinner, the timing, all of it—even the ice cream. But I messed up. I forgot the ring.”
You blinked, the words sinking in. “The ring?”
His gaze softened as he looked deeply into your eyes, brushing a loose strand of hair from your face. His hand lingered, his fingers cupping your cheek gently. “Yeah,” he said, his voice steady despite the rapid pounding of his heart. “The ring I was supposed to pull out tonight. The ring I picked out because I knew it was exactly what you’d want. The ring I got because I want to spend the rest of my life with you.”
Your breath hitched, tears welling in your eyes as his words settled over you like a warm embrace. Your lips trembled as you watched him drop to one knee, his hands enveloping yours with a tenderness that made your heart ache.
“I don’t have the box with the ring. And I’ve completely forgotten everything I’d planned to say.” He let out a soft, self-deprecating chuckle, his thumb brushing over your knuckles. “But know this—I love you. Even now, especially now, when all I have is me and my love for you.”
He pressed a kiss to your hands, his touch reverent, as though grounding himself in the moment. Then, his voice dropped to a whisper, earnest and raw. “This isn’t the perfect proposal I had in mind, but I have to ask…”
He looked up at you, his eyes glimmering with sincerity and hope. “Will you marry me?”
For a heartbeat, the world seemed to still. The gentle rustle of the grass, the soft hum of crickets, the distant glow of fireflies—it all faded, leaving just the two of you.
Then, like a dam breaking, laughter bubbled out of you—a breathless, joyful sound that lit up the quiet night. Without hesitation, you dropped to your knees, pulling him into a kiss so fervent it knocked the two of you backward onto the soft grass. He landed with a gentle oof, his arms instinctively wrapping around you as you hovered over him, your tears mingling with your smile.
“Yes,” you whispered, your lips brushing against his as you spoke. “A million times yes.”
Relief and pure, unfiltered happiness coursed through him, his grin widening as he pulled you close, holding you as if he never wanted to let go. “I’ll make this up to you,” he promised, his voice muffled against your shoulder, though there was a lightness in his tone now. “The perfect ring, the perfect proposal—I’ll do it right.”
You pulled back slightly, shaking your head with a radiant smile. “You already did.”
He smiles and pulls you into another kiss. The fireflies danced around you, the world continuing on, but for you both, time felt suspended—an endless moment of love and joy and a future that had just begun.

─── SANDBALL AND SUNDRESSES

[ Pairing ] Nico Hischier x Fem!Reader.
[ Summary ] Nico Hischier had been a thorn in your side for as long as you could remember, and you had been a pain in his, but a game of sandball and a blue sundress brings forth feelings you'd been denying for years.
[ Word Count ] 6.9k [ Warnings ] Cursing, maybe angst if you really squint, idiots to lovers, jealousy, 18+ themes towards the end, but no smut. Just a makeout session with some grinding, slightly unedited but I tried
You had been friends with Nina Hischier longer than you could remember. Despite the two year age difference, the two of you were inseparable, always joint at the hip and rarely ever found without the other. Even when one of you went on vacation with your family, it was rare that the other wasn’t invited and included in everything. She loved your family, and you loved hers. Well, most of hers.
You had never really gotten along with Nico. Not when you were younger, and especially not now that the two of you were older. He always found ways to get under your skin and annoy you to no end, and you were exceptionally good at pushing his buttons until his usually passive demeanor began to crack. Nina and Luca always found it amusing when the two of you would bicker, whereas your parents would always shake their hands and attempt to divert the two of you to something else.
Though they all made the same closing comments every time: I can't wait for the two of you to finally get together. In their wildest dreams, and maybe in yours, too, but you would never say that out loud. In fact, you had yet to even acknowledge that somewhere along the way, your feelings for him had shifted into something different. Into something you never thought would happen.
When summer rolled around and both Hischier boys were free from their hockey schedule, the four of you found yourselves at the beach for a relaxing break. A part of you always felt like you were intruding when it was just the three of them, and you would always try to decline their invite with the notion that they should enjoy their time together and the four of you could hang out when they got back. However, you were always met with loud protests, even from Nico, and the threat that one of them would simply pay for your tickets if you didn’t. To them, going anywhere without you felt wrong because you were a part of who they were, and you were always welcome no matter what.
At the beach, you laid out on one of the beach chairs next to Nina as the boys kicked a ball to each other. She was telling you about something that had been happening at work, but your attention kept slipping towards her younger brother. You couldn’t stop yourself from watching him, from admiring the way the sun kissed his skin or the way his muscles rippled each time he’d kick at the ball. You may not necessarily get along with Nico, but you’d have to be a fool to deny that he was attractive, and you were the furthest thing from one.
“Oh, look,” Nina cut herself off, subtly pointing to the group of girls that were approaching her brothers, “That took longer than I thought. Usually they have a group before we’re done setting up.”
“We did get here early,” You playfully pointed out, though there was a small ball of jealousy forming in your chest when you watched one of the girls directly approach Nico.
God, what was wrong with you? You’d seen him flirt with girls before and it never bothered you then.
Right?
“True! I think they’re inviting them to play sandball,” She quietly spoke as she observed them through her sunglasses, “Do you think they’ll ask us?”
Nina had an answer to her question not thirty seconds later. Luca had shouted at the two of you, waving his hand for you guys to join them before everyone made their way over to the sand court. You hastily followed after them, ignoring the harsh looks from some of the girls when Nico fell in step with you. It was something you had grown used to over the years. Girls disliking you because they thought you and Nico were an item of sorts, but you knew he only approached you because he wanted to poke fun at your skills, or lack thereof.
“Do you think you’ll be able to stay on your feet this time,” He started, his tone light and teasing as he walked beside you, “Last time you fell on your ass more times than you hit the ball.”
“Maybe because one of my teammates sucked and kept running into me,” You shot back, glaring up at him through your sunglasses.
“I kept running into you because you weren’t paying attention,” He retorted as he reached up to take his cap off before slipping it onto your head, “Hold this for me. I don’t play well with it on.”
“I don’t want your sweaty hat,” You protested as you attempted to take it off, but he kept his palm flat against the top of your head to keep it in place, “Nico!”
He didn’t give you a response before he jogged away, remnants of his laughter filtering in through your eyes as you stomped behind him. Nina and Luca both gave you teasing smirks when you caught up to them, but you ignored them as you crossed your arms against your chest and stood in line with everyone else. The girls, none of which had taken the time to introduce themselves, appointed Nico and Luca team captains, and they suggested they pick teams P.E. style.
Luca took his sister first, of course, given the fact that she used to play volleyball, and he always picked the two of you first when he could. You were in the middle of mouthing your regret to Nina when Nico called your name, shocking you and his siblings. You stood there frozen for a fleeting moment, not sure that he had actually said your name until he repeated himself and tacked on an annoying comment about you needing to get your hearing checked. It was harder to ignore the daggers being thrown your way now, and a small part of you felt like Nico was doing it on purpose.
“Why did you pick me,” You harshly whisper once you were standing next to him, “You were just telling me how much you thought I sucked and you know I’m always on Nina’s team, so why?”
He didn’t give you an answer, only shrugging in response before he began to plan out which girl he was going to pull over next. While Luca was discussing with his sister who to pick, you felt a gentle tap on your shoulder that tore your attention away from everyone else. You carefully peek over your shoulder, your eyes landing on a tanned, toned chest before they slide up to the stranger's face. He was cute in a conventionally attractive way. His brown hair mussed at the top of his head, his deep green eyes uncovered as they looked into your own, and his skin glistening from what you assume is a combination of ocean water and sweat.
Nico instantly noticed your focus shift to whoever was behind you, and his eyes were quick to follow yours, his voice trailing off after calling one of the girls over. A scowl forms on his face as he watches your face light up at the guy in front of you, but he stays silent. Instead, he moves his focus towards his siblings who were already looking at him like they knew something that he didn’t. He shook his head at the two of them before slightly stepping closer to you so that he could hear a bit better.
“Are you guys playing sandball,” The tallest one inquires with a thick, and what you’re assuming is local, accent, a small dimple indenting his cheek as he smiles down at you.
“We are,” You nod, your voice sweet and light, “Do you guys want to join?”
“We’d love to,” He smoothly lets out, “If it’s okay with your friends, of course. We don’t want to overstep.”
“It should be fine, but let me ask,” You purse your lips before turning towards everyone. You manage to catch Nico’s eye and he looks pissed, but you weren’t sure why, and you weren’t trying to find out either. “Is everyone okay if they join us? We’d have an even twelve players if they did.”
The girls were already eyeing the four guys behind you, and they were quick to shout their agreement before giggling amongst themselves. Luca and Nina indifferently shrugged their shoulders before they glanced at their younger brother beside you. Nico was staring off towards the water with his hand on his hip and the corners of his lips turned down in a subtle frown. You carefully kicked sand at his feet, raising your brows when he finally looked in your direction, but he gave you the same reaction that his siblings did. You momentarily narrow your eyes at his off-putting reaction, but you chose not to dwell on it for long.
“Well, boys,” You grinned, turning back to them, “Get in line! We’re picking teams now.”
As they slipped past you, the one that initially approached you let his hand slide on the lower part of your back as he whispered in your ear. “I hope we’re on the same team.”
Your face warms at his blatant flirting, and you give him a coy smile as he falls in line with the others. You had no intention of taking down his number, or even remembering his name, but a little flirtatious fun never hurt anyone. Maybe it would get the brunette girl standing on the other side of Nico to stop staring at you like she was trying to make you explode with her mind.
Once the teams were divided up, and Mr. Green Eyes ended up not being on yours, the six of you gathered in a circle to dish out positions. One of the nicer girls kept bringing her hand up to shield her face from the sun as Nico talked, so you silently slipped your sunglasses off your face and handed them to her. You politely waved her off as she mumbled a quiet thank you, ignoring the teasing look Nico threw at you as you adjusted his hat on your head. You knew it was his smug way of saying ‘You’re welcome’, but you didn’t fall into his trap. Not this time.
Finally, everyone seemed to have their responsibilities locked down before finding their positions on your side of the net. Standing directly in front of you was Nina, who playfully pointed to you and then to the ground before getting into her position. You shook your head in amusement as you leaned forward, watching as Luca tossed the ball in the air a few times before hitting it over the net and the game finally began.
It was getting competitive, to say the least. Both sides were evenly matched, and it was putting everyone on edge. Harsh tones were being used on teammates, petty insults were being hurled at the opposing team, and it was starting to stress you out. No matter what you did, it was seemingly the wrong thing even if you were able to get the ball over the net. Nico kept yelling at you to focus, the girl that had it out for you kept making snide comments about your coordination or your speed, and you were simply ready for it to be over.
Mr. Green Eyes was in charge of serving this round, and you kept your eyes trained on him as he rolled the ball between his hands before he hit the ball and sent it sailing towards you. You did what you knew you were supposed to do and called out the ball as yours, telling everyone that you were going to hit it back over, but you never got to it. Just as you were about to make contact, something, or rather someone, collided with your side and sent you stumbling backwards. You slammed into the chest of the person behind you, who just so happened to be Nico, and sent the both of you flying into the sand with startled yells.
“What the hell,” You heard Nina shout, quickly followed by Luca’s attempt to keep things calm before they escalated into something unnecessary.
“Fuck,” You winced as you squeezed your eyes shut in pain, disregarding the fact that Nico’s hands were on your waist and lighting your skin on fire under his touch.
“Are you okay,” Nico’s voice rumbles against your back, “Can you move?”
“Yeah, I can move,” You spit out, though your anger isn’t truly directed at him for once.
With Nina arguing in the background, you shift your hips off of Nico and make the move to sit up, but the feeling of something sharply tugging on your hair only drags you back down to his chest. He lets out a startled grunt as you bring your hand up to your head, fumbling around until you feel the cool metal of Nico’s chain tangled in the loose strands of hair at the nape of your neck.
“You’ve got to be fucking kidding me!”
You were already angry and overstimulated from everything that had just happened, but to make everything even worse, you’d managed to get the most sensitive pieces of hair wrapped up in Nico’s stupid necklace. Typically, you weren’t one to cry when things got too frustrating, but that might change today as tears burned your eyes.
“Hey, it’s okay,” Nico attempted to calm you down, his voice quiet and steady, “I’m going to sit us up, okay?”
With your nod of approval, he wraps one of his arms around your waist and uses his other to push the two of you up into a sitting position. You’re slotted between his thighs and leaning your head against his shoulder now, making no point to move as your gaze darts around the sand court. The girls were walking away now, and the guys that had joined you were nowhere to be seen. It was just the Hischier’s and you all over again.
“You should have let me,” Nina complained, throwing her hands in the air as the two of them approached you, “She deserved it.”
“I’m just not too keen on bailing you out of jail,” Luca shook his head before letting his gaze fall on the scene in front of him, his brows raising cheekily, “What are you two doing?”
“Nico’s chain is stuck in my hair,” You flatly pointed out, tilting your head to the side so they can see the reason you’re currently pressed up against their baby brother.
Nina and Luca crouch down beside you, gently taking the chain in their fingers as they closely inspect it to come up with a plan to free you. You have to bite back the occasional hiss when they pull too hard, choosing to slightly dig your nails into Nico’s thigh instead. The three of them fall silent behind you, and you know they’re doing that weird silent communication thing that you hate.
“Hey,” Nico nervously calls out your name, “Have I told you I loved you today?”
“What the fuck are you talking about,” You snap, trying to keep your head in one spot in order to not pull on your hair.
“We’re going to have to cut your hair,” Nina’s face appeared in front of you, her tone weary and eyes nervous, “Just the part that’s in the necklace! It’s not a lot, but none of us can undo it. Unless you want me to yank it out, but I don’t think that’s a good idea since the chain’s so fragile.”
You knew you had no choice, so you let out a defeated sigh in agreement before the two of them left to see if they could find any scissors. Letting yourself fall back against Nico, you sat there in silence and tried to convince yourself that the warm, fuzzy feeling in your chest was merely a product of the sun beating down on you. It had absolutely nothing to do with the man behind you. Nothing at all.
“I’m sorry,” Nico says, cutting through the uncomfortable silence around you. He has to keep his gaze on the small building behind the net because the second he looked down, his eyes were immediately drawn to your chest, and having you between his legs was hard enough for him. He was barely keeping it cool.
“It’s not your fault,” You grumble as you slightly wiggle your hips so that you’re more comfortable. Nico takes a sharp breath from behind you, but you ignore it to say, “Well, technically it was. She pushed me because she wanted you and for some reason thought I was a threat.”
“Yeah, well, I didn’t take a direct hit to the head from Mr. Board Shorts on accident either,” He retaliated with a certain edge to his tone that you weren’t familiar with. It almost sounded like he was jealous, but you weren’t naive enough to let yourself think that.
You couldn’t help but let out a laugh at the hilarity of it all; The two of you being targeted by people who were interested in the other. Not only did you and Nico have no interest in each other, at least that’s what you told yourself, but the two of you were now literally stuck together and everyone else had gone without another word. Though, if you were being honest, you were grateful that the guy didn’t make another pass at you, and you were even more grateful that Nina had ran the girl off.
You told yourself it was because she would only cause more trouble and you didn’t want to deal with that on vacation, but it was becoming increasingly harder to convince yourself that was the only reason.
It wasn’t long until Luca came back and was able to carefully free your hair from its temporary prison. You quickly scrambled to your feet, letting out a sigh of relief as you dramatically stretched out your limbs. When you bent over to touch your toes, you heard the sound of someone being slapped on the chest followed by one of the boys laughing, but you didn’t bother to figure out what had happened or who it was. You simply wanted to go back to your chair and soak up as much sun as you could before dinner.
“You know,” Nina drawls as the four of you make your way back to your spot, “Why didn’t he just take his necklace off?”
Her words make your steps falter and your breath catch in your throat, sending you into a brief fit of coughs before you were able to recompose yourself. She had a good point, and the fact that the idea hadn’t even passed your mind once during the entire ordeal was odd. It was a simple solution, and the most obvious one, so why didn’t you think of it?
“Listen,” She tries again, a light hint of amusement to her voice, “If you and Nico are a thing, I support you both. We’ve all been saying it’ll happen and it’s about ti–”
“No,” You loudly rushed out, heat rushing to your cheeks when you caught the attention of the two boys in front of you, “No, Nina. That isn’t happening. Ever. You know that.”
“If you say so,” She hums with a smug smirk making its way on her face, and you knew she didn’t believe you.
Hell, you weren’t even sure that you believed you.
Back at the hotel the four of you were staying at, you and Nina were getting ready for dinner with music softly playing in the background. The restaurant you were going to wasn’t necessarily fancy, but you still found yourself putting extra emphasis in your appearance. You made sure that every part of your hair was in place, that your lashes were perfect, and your lips had just the right amount of lip gloss on them. For no particular reason whatsoever, of course.
“I probably won’t be back until late tonight,” Nina calls out over her shoulder as she opens the door to the balcony.
“And where will you be,” You turn to her, brow quirked and eyes swimming with curiosity.
“Do you remember JJ,” She bashfully asks, her cheeks reddening when you let out an excited gasp, “He’s here on vacation with his friends and asked if I wanted to see him, and I said yes.”
You jumped to your feet as a shrill squeal echoed throughout the room, “Shut up! I knew you liked him!”
“Stop,” She playfully whines, throwing her head back for emphasis, “We’re just going to go down to the beach and talk.”
“Is talk code for fu-”
Nina was quick to cover your mouth with her hands, her eyes wide and face flushed at your teasing. She didn’t want her nosy brothers, who resided in the adjoining room, to get wind of what she had planned because, knowing them, they would find any way they could to interfere with her meetup. Once you quieted down, you begged her for more information, which she happily gave you until Luca opened the shared door to tell the two of you that it was time to go.
You and Nina shouted your understanding at him before you quickly slipped your sandals on your feet and grabbed your small purse that was on the dresser, right next to Nico’s hat. Stepping into the boy's room, you saw Luca seated on the edge of his bed scrolling on his phone, and Nico was, you assumed, in the bathroom. While Nina took the spot next to her brother, you took the few steps to the mirror that was hung on the wall to give your appearance a once over.
“Are they done yet,” Nico groaned as he pulled the door open, but he froze in his spot when he finds you standing in front of him.
Blood rushes to Nico’s head the second he lays eyes on you, a blue sundress hugging your body in all the right ways, and it was like he was a teenager seeing you in a bathing suit for the first time all over again. He catches your eye in the mirror, breath catching in his throat when he notices your raised brows, and the slight blush to your cheeks. Everything he had felt for you all these years was beginning to bubble to the surface, the threat of it all boiling over increasing with each minute he spent around you, and he wasn’t sure how much longer he could hold out. Especially not with you looking like that.
“What? Have you never seen a girl in a dress before,” You goad, swallowing the lump of nerves in your throat to poke fun at him.
“Oh, I’ve seen plenty,” He quickly recovers, not missing the way your face briefly twists in anger at his insinuation.
“Okay,” Luca interjects, shaking his head in amusement as he rises to his feet, “We’re leaving before you two get into it or we’ll be here all night.”
The restaurant was only a fifteen minute walk, and, fortunately for everyone, it was a nice enough evening that no one complained. You walked beside Nina, talking amongst yourselves about what you wanted to do for the rest of the trip, and the boys walked ahead talking about their upcoming training sessions. Small moments like this meant the most to you because they reminded you that no matter what they did or where they went off to, the four of you could always fall back into the same routines when you were together.
After the hostess guided you to your table, Nina and Luca were quick to take the seats on one side of the table, forcing you and Nico to sit next to each other. It was a tactic you were both used to, so neither of you paid them any mind as you fell into the chair. However, what you were not used to, was Nico slinging his arm across the back of your chair and slightly scooting closer to you. You were giving him a pointed look, mouth dropped open to ask him what the hell he was doing, but the sound of a familiar voice smothered your chances.
“Hey guys,” Mr. Green Eyes beams, now clad in a work uniform with a name tag that says ‘Ruben’.
You slyly bumped Nico’s arm off your chair before you leaned forward, meeting his gaze with a soft smile, “Hey! Nice to see you again.”
“Back at you,” He lightly laughs, his eyes quickly flitting down to your chest and back up again, “What are you guys drinking?”
When Ruben walked off, you glanced at Nico who had a scowl on his face as he fiddled with the end of the armrest. You choose to leave him to himself, not entirely sure what you’d even say considering the two of you had never had that kind of relationship, and fell into conversation with the two across from you.
By the time dinner was over, Nico’s mood hadn’t improved in the slightest. In fact, it seemingly worsened with each flirtatious look, or lingering comment that Ruben had thrown your way. His siblings tried getting him to lighten up, to enjoy the dinner rather than stew in whatever was going on in his head, but their efforts were fruitless. He was too far gone, and the only person who could drag him back was someone who rarely wanted anything to do with him. At least, that’s what he thought.
Nina waited half an hour after getting back to the hotel to set out on her secret date with the promise that she would give you every detail when she got back, leaving you alone with only the muffled sound of the TV on the other side of the wall filling the room. You scrolled on your phone for a while, answering messages you hadn’t gotten to throughout the day, and sending your mom pictures of your trip so far. Movement on the balcony caught your eye, forcing your attention away from your phone in an attempt to figure out which Hischier it was.
You saw Nico through the breaks in the curtain as he grasped at the railing of the balcony, and you could tell that something was bothering him based on the way his shoulders were nearly at his ears. With your phone discarded on your bed, you debated with yourself on whether or not you should go outside. While you weren’t particularly close with Nico, you do care about him, and you were slowly starting to accept that you cared far more than you thought you did. Before you were able to talk yourself out of it, you were climbing off the bed and making your way outside.
“Hey,” You hesitantly called out, nerves clawing at every inch of your skin as you stepped through the door.
“Hey,” He responds, not bothering to mask the surprise in his voice as he turns around so he’s fully facing you. He was still wearing the thin button-up shirt, but the sleeves were now pushed up his forearm and the first couple of buttons were undone. It was a simple look, one of disarray and disorder, but it was making it hard for you to focus. “Where’s Nina?”
“She’s out,” You shrug, avoiding eye contact with him before quickly deflecting back to him, “Are you okay?”
Nico raises his brows at the way you quickly maneuver the situation away from his sister, but he doesn’t press any further. Instead, he takes you in from head to toe, drinking in the way you look under the soft lights still clad in your sundress from dinner. The thoughts, the images, that were passing through his mind were far from pure, and it was taking every ounce of willpower he had to keep it all tucked away. Nico had always taken pride in his self-control, but he was beginning to crack under the pressure that was you, and he knew it was only a matter of time before it caved in on him.
“Nico,” You tried again, throat drying as he stood there in silence, “Are you okay? Where’s Luca?”
“He’s asleep,” He waved off, forcing him to look away from you before he continued, “I’m okay. I’m surprised you’re not off with Romeo somewhere.”
Romeo? Who the hell was he talking about? You hadn’t even met a— Oh.
“Are you talking about Ruben,” You prodded, taking a few steps closer so that you were less than a foot away from him, “Why would I be with him?”
“You two seemed pretty into each other,” His attempt to appear nonchalant was failing miserably. His jaw was clenched, his stare hard, and pointed at the wall behind you. Even a baby would be able to tell that he was bothered.
“I mean, he’s cute, yeah,” You shrugged, absentmindedly toying with the neckline of your dress, “But I don’t have any plans to actually see him. It’s just harmless flirting, something I’m sure he does with all the tourists.”
“Are you su—,” Nico falters when he lets his gaze fall on you and his focus is pulled to your chest, but he promptly regroups, “Are you sure? You seemed pretty invested at dinner.”
“Why do you care,” You rush out before he’s even finished speaking, slowly growing frustrated, “You've never cared before, so why do you care now? Do you guys think he’s a bad guy and you don’t want to tell me? No one said anything about beach girl flirting with you.”
“We didn’t have to sit through an entire dinner of that,” He snaps, regretting his tone as soon as it came out. He runs a frustrated hand through his hair, taking a deep breath before saying, “By the way, she gave me your sunglasses back. They’re on the desk.”
You visibly stiffened at his casual release of information, but you try to appear cool and collected as you ask, “When did you see her? Did you give her your room number or something?”
The idea alone made you physically nauseous. It makes your skin crawl with undeniable jealousy that you have no right to. Nico wasn’t your boyfriend, he wasn’t your anything, but the thought of him being hers felt wrong.
“No, I saw her when I was walking around before dinner,” He shakes his head, his gaze flitting across your face. The corners of his mouth twitched when he noticed the storm of emotions brewing in your eyes, and he felt that much closer to getting you to admit it. To admit that you were just as jealous as he was because you wanted him as badly as he wanted you. “Why does it matter if she has my room number?”
“Why does it matter that Ruben was flirting with me,” You press, tilting your head as you peer up at him. The way Nico had been acting mirrored your own behavior, a glaring fact you had been brushing off in fear that it was your mind playing into your growing fantasy, but not even you could ignore the way he was looking at you right now.
His brown eyes bore into your own almost tauntingly, as if he was trying to lure you into something you’d both been trying to fight off for far too long. The desire to close the gap between the two of you, to kiss him with everything you had, was becoming almost painful, but you weren’t ready to take the leap. Not unless he jumped first.
“It doesn’t,” He gruffly lets out, pushing himself off the railing so he’s standing at his full stature as he further closes the gap between you, “Unless you wanted more from him, then it matters.”
“What if I did,” You snark, testing him to see just how far you could go until he bent.
His gaze darkens as your empty words echo around him, his jaw ticking before a smug smirk works its way on his face and he says, “Say it like you mean it, and I might believe you.”
“Oh, I’m sorry. Was I not convincing enough,” You jeer, “Why don’t I just go back and find Ruben then? He said he gets off work at ten, I think I can make it in time to catch him.”
You cockily spin on your heels to storm back inside, but you barely take two steps before Nico’s hand wraps around your wrist and he’s roughly tugging you back towards him. Your hands instinctively come out to brace you, grasping at his chest as you let out a startled grunt. The material of his shirt was cool under your sweaty palms, blood pounding in your ears and nerves sparking from being so close to him. It was dizzying. It was exhilarating.
Through a shaky breath, you let your eyes trail up his chest and to his face, meeting his intense gaze as his chest heaves under your touch. Time seems to still around you, the sounds of vacation goers and local laughter fading until it was just the two of you. Standing on the balcony. Waiting to see who was finally going to dive headfirst into whatever it was between you.
Nico jumped first.
His hands flew to cradle your jaw as he surges forward, slamming his lips on your own in the kind of kiss that was desperate, urgent and demanding for more. Your hands balled his shirt in your palms as you kissed him back with every ounce of desire you had in you, your tongue slipping into his mouth to deepen the kiss. Everything you had been suppressing, everything you had been denying to yourself for God knows how long was coming apart at the seams, pouring out of you as your mouth moved against his.
He breathlessly pulls away from you, his hand grasping your own as he hastily drags you back into your room and shuts the door behind him. He perches himself on the edge of your bed before guiding you onto his lap, your dress scrunching around your hips as you straddle his thighs. His hands roamed down to your waist, his gaze briefly softening when he met yours as if he was silently asking you if this was still okay. You respond by kissing him. Hard.
Your hands find their way to his hair, fingers grasping at the roots as he kisses you with a sense of possessiveness you didn’t know he was capable of. He was taking over in every sense, his mouth dominating your own, his fingers pressing into the flesh of your hips as he grinds you down against him, and you let him. It shocked you, how willing you were to surrender yourself to him, but you didn’t care. You were drunk on the feeling of his mouth against yours, and that was all you wanted to think about.
“You looked,” His lips fell to your jaw, “Amazing,” Down to your neck, “Tonight.”
“I kno–,” You cut yourself off with a breathy moan as he sucked at the sensitive skin, “You thought so. You kept looking at my boobs.”
It was hard not to,” His deep voice vibrates against you, sending a shiver down your back, “It’s always hard not to. I know you look at me, too.”
“Yeah, I do,” You whimper when you feel his teeth slightly bite down, “You know you’re attractive. Girls look at you all the time.”
“I don’t care about them,” He shamelessly admits between kisses to your neck, “I only notice you.”
Your stomach flips, your heart skipped a beat, your knees felt weak, your mind went hazy... You felt every cliche emotion they talk about in books wash over you while Nico’s words rang in your ears. He only notices you. You tried to search for a fault in his admission, but you couldn’t. You weren’t able to think of a single time in the last few years that he truly appeared interested in a girl when you were around, and you couldn’t remember any times that you felt genuine interest in any guys when he was. It was always meaningless flirting because you’d always been too preoccupied with pushing his buttons, but maybe it had been more than that.
Hell, there was no maybe about it. You can’t lie to yourself. Not anymore.
“Nico,” You utter, placing your hands on his shoulders to carefully push him away so that he was looking at you, “What do you mean?”
You knew what you wanted him to mean, but you needed to hear him say it. It wasn’t real until he said it out loud.
“Is it not obvious,” He nervously chuckles, “I’m in love with my sister’s best friend.”
“Oh,” You feign a defeated sigh as you glance at the wall behind him, “I won’t tell Fran about this, then.”
“Ha ha,” Nico deadpans, squeezing your hips to gain your attention again, “Very funny, but you know what I mean. I hope.”
“Wait,” You suddenly freeze, panic flooding your veins as your head spins with reality, “Oh my god. Nina! She’s going to be so pissed at me. I just made out with her baby brother and almost–”
“Hey,” Nico’s voice smothers your own, your name delicately slipping through his lips as his thumbs rub circles on your skin, “It’s okay. I’m pretty sure she was the first person to find out how I feel about you, and she’s okay with it. She did tell me if I broke your heart, she’d hit me with my own hockey stick.”
“Are you sure,” You ask earnestly, trying to steady your breathing and calm your heart. Though with Nico still pressed between your legs, that’s nearly impossible.
“Yes,” He affirms, gaze soft yet firm, letting you know that he was being sincere, “I’m sure. She hasn’t stopped asking me when I was going to tell you how I feel since she’s known.”
Slowly, you feel yourself getting further away from the ledge of potentially losing your best friend, but the longer you think about it, you realize Nico was right. For the last couple of summers, Nina had been throwing purposeful comments or making calculated moves in regards to her brother, but you’d been too wrapped in convincing yourself you didn’t like him to notice. She knew you better than you knew yourself at times, and it seems that your feelings for the man beneath you were no exception. No matter how much you tried to deny it or kept it hidden, she saw right through it all.
She was simply waiting for you to accept it on your own terms, but what was wrong with a little subtle help?
“I do,” You thickly swallow after a lapse of silence, your fingers absentmindedly toying with his hair, “Know what you mean, by the way. I’m going to be honest, I don’t know if I’m in love with you, because that’s a pretty big jump for me and it’s terrifying, but I might be. I do like you a lot, probably a lot more than I thought was possible, and I’d like to see where this can go. If you would want that.”
“I get it,” He reassures you, sensing the slight shift in tension, “I didn’t expect you to say it back, I just wanted you to know. I know it’s confusing because we’ve spent so much time ‘hating’ each other, but I want nothing more than to see where this takes us.”
You meant it when you said it was terrifying, but if there was one thing you knew about life, it was that sometimes the scariest beginnings can have the most beautiful endings. Things with Nico were going to be different and you were likely going to put your limits to the test with his hectic life, but you were willing to figure it all out with him. You were willing to take the leap as long as he went with you.
Though, for now? For now, you wanted to kiss him until your lips were swollen and you could barely breathe, and you did just that. The two of you spent who knows how long tangled together, kissing each other with the kind of desperation and fervent need that required locked doors and warning texts sent out to Nina. Each time your lips met acted as a promise, a silent vow that this was only the tip of the iceberg and there was so much more to come.
It wasn’t until you saw remnants of the sunset filtering in through the cracks in the curtain that the two of you reluctantly relaxed. Nico’s arms were tightly wrapped around you, almost as if he was afraid you wouldn’t be there when he woke up, and you finally let yourself drift off into sleep feeling more excited about the future than you ever had before.
It turns out, everyone had been right all along. It was never a matter of if you were going to end up with Nico. It was always a matter of when.

Hey girl! Could you do Nico x reader for a cute Halloween moment? Maybe carving pumpkins or choosing a couples costume (No smut please!)
monster mash — NH13

pairing: nico hischier x fem!reader
warnings: cuteness????, literally nothing not even swearing, use of a knife
synopsis: nico finally learns how to carve a pumpkin [<1k]
"did you have to get such a big one?" nico complained, scooping out the insides of the pumpkin into another bowl for the 'pumpkin pie' you were most definitely not going to make. the leaves outside had already turned shades of orange and brown, falling to the wet ground to be stamped on by kids boots.
"its not that big," you argued as you sat atop the counter, one of his hoodies falling to your mid thigh keeping you cozy with the cold breeze in the air, watching him do the dirty work whilst you planned what you were going to carve into it. over the years you'd done a range of things; ghostface from scream, jack skellington and more. "stop complaining." he glared back at you, forcing a laugh to escape your lips.
"it's the size of a house!" he exaggerated, the sleeves of his rolled up jumper threatening to unravel as his arms flailed.
you rolled your eyes at him, flicking through the cookbook you'd been reading and spotting the pumpkin pie, not looking nearly as appetising as you thought it would have. "if you complained less it would be done by now." you said, fighting the urge to smile at his dramatics, it was a reason you loved him. "do you want some help."
"no, no, schatzi, you look at what we're gonna cut."
"carve, nico." he waved off your correction, still scooping out the insides of the pumpkin, threatening to cover you in 'pumpkin guts' for anymore of your attitude. "do you even know how to carve a pumpkin."
he didn't answer, still scooping as you asked him the question again, gasping when his answer was still silence. "you don't know how to carve a pumpkin!"
"nina always did it for me!" you side-eyed him, still in shock that he was 25 and had never carved a pumpkin, something that made you think back to the halloweens you'd had together where you were always the one carving. "stop judging me!"
"i can't not judge you for that, hurry up and i'm teaching you how."
your words must have been a boost of encouragement as he finished up only a few minutes later, two bowls full of pumpkin pulp and a nice and empty pumpkin ready to be carved. "okay so, this is what we're gonna do," you showed him the picture of your idea on your phone. "take the marker and draw it on the pumpkin.
nico did as you said, tracing the drawing of the image onto the pumpkin, fixing any smudging before handing you back the pen. "now you take this," you turn around rather quickly, knife in hand and nico takes extra precaution, taking the sharp object out of your hands as quickly as he could. "and stick it in the pumpkin."
"just push it in?" he asked and you nodded, carefully pushing the knife straight through the flesh of the fruit, he followed your next instructions, tracing the lines he'd made with the marker and taking out chunks of the pumpkin.
you smiled at him as the mouth started coming together, he looked so proud of himself, dimples becoming more apparent, you couldn't help but find it adorable, watching as he tried to make the eyes as circular as he could. and having to step in as he nearly stabbed himself when taking the knife out.
"i'll take over, i'm sure devils fans wouldn't appreciate their captain getting himself stabbed." he let out a laugh, passing the knife over to you before washing his sticky hands, scouring the messy kitchen drawers for a tea-light candle to sit in the pumpkin.
it was nearly finished by the time he'd found one, just a few imperfections you needed to fix or it would make you go insane when you lit the candle and place the top of the pumpkin back on.
you looked like proud parents, their little one going to its first day of school when in reality it was just a pumpkin on a counter top. "you can finally tick 'carve a pumpkin' off your bucket list"

Operation: get them together already
Nico Hischier x fem!reader
Jack Hughes x fem!reader (platonic)
Quinn Hughes x fem!reader (platonic)
Warnings: fluff, reader has anxiety, reader grew up with the Hughes brothers, reader has curly hair cause this is a self indulgent fic, Jack refers to reader as 'Bub', dramatic Nico, surprisingly useful Jack, protective Quinn, dramatic reader, surprisingly useful Quinn, Quinn refers to reader as 'Squirt', shitty ex mentioned, Hughes bros call shitty ex 'dickhead', use of Y/n and Y/n/n
Schatz: treasure/sweetheart
Nico tells his sister about you almost immediately.
They have a call about a week after you and Nico meet, and Nico tells her about you in that call. She's shocked because he never tells her about the girls he's seeing, but she doesn't mention it. She let's Nico tell her all about the pretty girl he met, the one with wild curls and pretty smile.
The next time they talk, two weeks later, Nico doesn't mention you. She doesn't ask, she knows better than to pry, but she's disappointed.
It's not until she three months later, when she sees Nico in person that she risks it.
"Whatever happened to that girl you were talking about?" She has to fight to keep her voice casual and nonchalant. A blush grows on Nico's face, flowing over his neck and tinging his ears a deep pink and she has to bite her lip to keep from teasing him about being in love.
"She's good, we're.." Nico lets out a long suffering sigh. "We're friends."
Nina can't help the giggle that bursts from her body at how agonised he sounds by that, the disgust tinging his voice as he says the word, like it's offended him.
"Friends is good," Nina shrugs, a hand coming to rest on her brother's shoulder. "It's a good starting place."
Nico shrugs, looking away and Nina knows that she needs to change the subject before he shuts her our completely.
"Ok!" Her hands slap against her thighs, shoving herself to a standing position. "You promised me sushi."
~~
Nina meets you a week before she's due to fly back to Switzerland.
She goes to a game and you're there, sporting a #13 jersey and a wide grin.
"I'm Nina, Nico's sister," she offers you her hand, but you knock it to the side, pulling the woman into a hug.
"It's so nice to meet you!" You're buzzing with energy, barely able to keep up with conversations, too busy focusing on the game below.
"Y/N's like this at every game," Laura, Jack's girlfriend informs Nina, a fond smile on her face. "Has been since we teenagers."
"You grew up together?"
"Yeah," Laura nods, "Since we were twelve. She always gets lost in the game."
"Oh, I thought she was here with Nico."
"She's with me, and used to wear standard merch, no numbers, cause the Hughes boys would start a fight over which number we wore, but now she wears a number 13 jersey. "
Nico chooses that moment to score, and you're the loudest in the room. Nina joins you.
~~
"I'm so sorry," you're voice startles Nina, dragging her attention from her phone. You're standing next to her, head bent slightly.
"For what?" Nina tilts her head.
"I was rude in the box," you start to say, but she shakes her head.
"Please don't apologise to me for loving hockey and my brother- SUPPorting my brother." Nina shakes her head. "I haven't had that much fun at a game in a while."
Nico comes strolling over, cursing under his breath when he sees his sister standing with you.
"Nina, schatz," his voice breaks the two of you away from your conversation, but Nina doesn't miss the flash of confusion on your face when he uses that name for you.
"Good game, bro," Nina slaps him on the shoulder and you smile, nodding.
"Congratulations," Nina hasn't heard your voice that quiet all evening. "I, uh, better go.. to, yeah.. Congratulations! It was nice meeting you Nina!"
The siblings watch you scramble away, and Nina takes note of how Nico sighs in defeat next to her.
~~
"Neeks, I'm telling you, she's into you," Jack groans, throwing his head back as Nina enters the room. "Morning Nina."
"Morning Jack," she smiles tiredly, her gaze shifting to Nico, who's perched on the edge of the couch, head in his hands.
"She hates my guts Jack." Nico mutters. "She can't get away from me fast enough!"
"She's shy!" Jack cries out, hands falling over his face, exasperated. "She's always been shy! And then her ex fucked shit up, so now she doesn't handle feeling feelings well."
"Neeks, I agree with Jack," Nina offers her opinion and Nico groans, throwing his body back on the couch, before letting himself slide dramatically to the floor.
"I must have done something to upset her or scare her or something-"
"You didn't do shit, cap," Jack's voice is strained, like he's holding in a laugh. "That was all dickhead."
Nina notices the way Jack's shoulders tense as he talks about your ex, the protective edge that bleeds into his voice and wonders what damage the Hughes brothers must have inflicted on the boy when everything went down.
"I just.." Nico sighs, again, and Nina fights to hold back her eye roll, taking in the disheveled appearance of her brother clearly. "I don't know what to do."
"Talk to her," Jack says and Nico shoots him a glare. "No no, I mean it. Bub hates miscommunication and she'd be so mad at herself if she knew that you were like this."
Jack slides onto the floor next to Nico.
"Bub has never been good at expressing her emotions and her ex made her feel like shit when she did, you know this Neeks," Jack's shoulders tense again and he rolls his head to the side, cracking his neck. "She's terrified, but not of you."
~~
".. And then I fucken ran away! Like a coward! Again!" You wail towards the phone, missing the way Quinn rolls his eyes at you.
"It can't have been that bad," he mutters, a hand running through his hair as you finally settle onto your couch.
"It was," Lauren's voice chimes, her head poking around the front of the phone to shoot Quinn a smile as she continues to the kitchen for coffee, having already heard your rant.
"Ok," Quinn winces, "even if it was, whichitprobablywasn't, Nico's a chill guy."
Grabbing a pillow, you flop back dramatically on the couch, your legs flailing wildly as you scream into the pillow. Quinn screenshots the scene, pulling his phone too close to his face as he shoots the images off to the "operation: get them together already" groupchat, with the caption:
"was it this actually this bad?"
"worse" is the response Jack sends, accompanied by his own photo of Nico sprawled out on the floor of his apartment, arms thrown over his head and a dejected look on his face.
Quinn grunts, placing his phone back down just in time to see tears well up in your eyes.
"Hey hey hey Squirt, what's happening?" Panic bleeds into Quinn's voice and he curses the day he let you move in with his dumbass brothers instead of him. "Squirt, talk to me."
~~
Nina is added to the "operation: get them together already" groupchat that day, and Jack lets her scroll back through the messages on his phone, her eyes widening as she sees the chaos that has unfolded over the past few months.
Nina: what's the plan?
Luke: Lock them in a room together and don't let them out until they confess ??
Quinn: we are NOT locking my Squirt in a room with ANY man. Ever.
Jack: set them up on a blind date together ??
Quinn: she'd panic.
Laura: double date with Jack and I ?? then we just bail
Jack: im down
Quinn: jack you're not bailing on your captain
Quinn: and she'd be left wondering if she upset you
Laura: good point
Luke: fuck dickhead
Nina: I could invite her over to hang out, saying I got her number for Laura or Jack.
Nina: I do genuinely want to be friends with her and get to know her
Nina: then I could just.. simply be running late from an errand.. and her and Nico can have time alone
Quinn: that works.
Nina: out of curiosity.. what's the name, address and number of this dickhead.. i just wanna talk
~~
Nina sends you a message the following day, once she's had time to gather her nerve, reminding herself that Nico will forgive her.. one day.
Nina: Hey Y/N! It's Nina Hischier. I'm sorry if this is weird, but I got your number from Jack and Laura, I hope that's ok! I had a great time with you at the game and I was just wondering if you'd want to hang out before I go back to Switzerland? It's all good if not!
Y/n: Hi Nina! Not weird at all! I had fun with you too! I'd love to see you before you leave. When works for you?
Nina asks if you could meet at Nico's before going out, claiming that she didn't know the city well and didn't want to risk getting lost. You agreed, hesitantly, asking if Nico was ok with you being there, to which she assured you he was.
~~
5pm on Friday evening, a rare Friday off for the team, you're knocking on Nico's door. He swings the door open, hair flopping in his face and a confused look on his face, which only deepens when he sees you.
"Y/n?" His voice is deep and it's clear from the gravelly tone that he'd been asleep.
"Sorry!" You squeak. "Nina asked me to hang out but asked me to meet her here, because she doesn't know the city that well."
Nico frowns at that, knowing that Nina knows her way around the city well, after him living here for so long.
"Come in," he ushers you into his apartment, and you pull out your phone to text Nina, only to see one from her.
Nina: I am so sorry! I am running a few minutes late from an errand I was doing! I will be there soon!
"Ah.. she's running late.. an errand.." you inform Nico, your eyes locking onto the floor. "I'll.. go wait in.. in the car."
"Stay," Nico rushes out, hand waving through the air. "It's cold and.. and.. uhh, just.. just stay, please."
You blink for a moment, eye's searching his face for any hint of a joke, before you nod slowly. His shoulders relax, a soft smile taking over his face.
"Uh... would you like.. anything?" Nico asks, his hand coming up to the back of his neck bashfully.
"No, I'm ok, thank you," you smile at him, hands shaking at the proximity. Nico nods, and gestures to the couch a moment later.
"Sit.. please, uhh, she might be a moment.." Nico sighs in relief when you agree, moving carefully though his apartment, as if you were scared to disturb the air with your presence. "I uhh, tv?"
Nico winces at himself, feeling his ears begin to burn.
"Sure, Nico," your voice is soft, but he can hear that the shaky hint that normally takes over your voice has died down slightly. "Whatever you want."
He nods stiffly, turning to the tv, before hesitating with his hand half-way to the remote.
"Can- can I ask you a question?" He shocks himself when he says it, but he can't take it back.
"Sure," you look at him, head tilted to the side slightly, a curl falling across your cheek, one that he desperately wants to tuck behind your ear and feel under his fingertips, and he really can't be blamed for the words that follow.
"Do you hate me?" Alarmed, you stand, turning to him, eyes wide and hair flying around you. Nico follows your movements, standing in front of you.
"What?!" You're panicked, he can tell and he curses himself.
"No! That came out wrong! I just-" Nico sighs, his head falling forwards and his shoulders curve in on themselves slightly. "Every time I'm around, you run away and I just.. if I did something, let me know so I can fix it... please, Schatz."
Your hands shake, which Nico can see from his hunched over position, his fingers itching to take yours in his and hold you close.
"I don't hate you Nico," you assure him. "I could never."
He stands up straighter at that, confusion bleeding into his expression.
"Then.. why?" You can feel your face heating up at the question, and he can feel the realisation dawning on him. "Do you.. are we.. was Jack right?"
Frowning you raise an eyebrow, to which Nico shakes his head.
"I like you romantically, Schatz," Nico's voice turns soft, and his accent is a bit thicker. "I want to take you on a date. If you'll let me."
"I-" you can't stop the grin that stretches across your face. "I would love that."
~~
Nico tells Nina about his proposal plan first.

Crossing the line
Requested: no
Pairing: Nico Hischier x reader
Words: around 1k
Warning(s): none
It started out like any other summer. Warm evenings with long sunsets, lazy afternoons that stretched on forever. I’d always thought that nothing could change the way things were between us—me, my best friend, Nina, and her older brother, Nico. We were always just friends, after all. But as I sit here, looking out the window, I realize that something inside me has shifted.
Nico wasn’t supposed to be the one. He wasn’t supposed to be the one to make my heart race when I saw him, the one to fill my thoughts when I should be focused on something else. He was Nina’s brother, the guy who always teased me about the dumbest things and acted like he didn’t even notice how cute he was. In my world, he was just Nico—the quiet, kind of mysterious guy who always had a smile that made girls swoon. But I never thought he could be anything more.
Until he became more.
It was a Friday afternoon, the day before the big summer party Nina had been planning for weeks. She was in the kitchen, bouncing around like a kid in a candy store, while I sat on the couch in her living room, trying to get through a book that I barely understood. Nico walked in, the door creaking behind him, a duffel bag slung over his shoulder.
“Hey,” he said casually, his voice smooth and deep in that way that always made my heart skip. "You’re still reading that book?”
“Yeah, I’m trying to get through it. It’s not going well,” I answered, my voice betraying me with the nervous laugh I didn’t mean to let out.
He grinned, a teasing glint in his eyes. "I don't get how you can read stuff like that. You need something more exciting."
I rolled my eyes, though my lips couldn’t help but twitch into a smile. “Exciting, huh? Like what?”
He dropped his bag onto the floor and sat down beside me on the couch, leaning back in that way that always made him look like he owned the world. “Something with, I don’t know, actual action. Maybe I could recommend something.”
My heart did that thing again. The thing where it beat just a little too fast, and my thoughts scattered. It wasn’t like Nico was suddenly a different person. He was still the same Nico I’d known for years, but now... now there was a new layer to him I couldn’t ignore.
“Sure. What do you recommend?” I asked, trying to sound casual even though I was suddenly hyper-aware of his closeness.
His eyes locked onto mine, and for a brief second, I saw a flicker of something deeper than the usual teasing. Something that made the air between us feel charged, electric.
But then it was gone, replaced by that familiar smirk. “You’ll laugh at my suggestions. But, hey, at least you’ll have something to complain about.”
“Probably,” I teased back, but I couldn’t shake the weird flutter in my chest.
As the days passed, it became harder to ignore the small moments—the little gestures that I had always brushed off before. The way he’d drop by just to check on me when Nina wasn’t home. The way his hand would linger a little longer than necessary on my shoulder when he passed by. The quiet conversations that felt like they meant something more than just idle chatter.
It wasn’t like I was in denial. I knew what was happening. I was falling for Nico Hischier. And it terrified me.
He was Nina’s brother. The guy I’d grown up with, shared jokes and memories with. The guy I was supposed to be comfortable around, someone I knew like the back of my hand. So how could it have happened? How could he go from being my best friend’s older brother to... something more?
___
It was the night of the party. Music was blaring in the background, and people were scattered around the yard, laughing and drinking. I was sitting on the porch, feeling like I needed a moment to breathe. The party was fun, but my mind kept wandering back to Nico.
Out of nowhere, I felt a presence beside me, and I looked up to see Nico standing there, his eyes soft in the moonlight.
“You okay?” he asked, his voice low.
“Yeah, just... it’s a lot,” I said, gesturing vaguely to the chaos of the party. “I needed a little quiet.”
He nodded, sitting down next to me. We didn’t speak for a moment, the sounds of the party filling the space between us. But then, out of the blue, Nico turned to me, his expression unreadable.
“I’ve been meaning to ask you something,” he said, his gaze intense.
My heart skipped a beat. “What?”
He took a deep breath before speaking. “I don’t know what this is... or if I should even say it. But I feel like you’ve been avoiding me lately.”
I blinked, stunned. “I’ve... I haven’t been avoiding you.”
“Are you sure?” Nico said, his voice soft, but there was a sharpness behind it. “Because it feels like you’ve been pulling away, and I don’t know why.”
The air between us thickened, and suddenly it was like I couldn’t breathe.
“I don’t want things to be weird between us, Nico,” I admitted quietly, my heart pounding in my chest. “But they are, and I can’t... I can’t ignore it anymore.”
His eyes searched mine, and I could feel his breath catch in his throat. “What are you trying to say?”
“I... I don’t know.” My hands fidgeted in my lap, and I glanced away. “I think I might like you. More than I should.”
Silence stretched on between us, heavy and full of unspoken words. Nico’s gaze softened, and I could see the hint of a smile tugging at his lips.
“I think I might like you too,” he said, his voice quieter now, a warmth in his words that made my heart ache.
And just like that, everything shifted.
From that night on, things between Nico and I were different. In a way, it felt like we were finally being honest with each other, even if it was messy and complicated. We weren’t just the best friend and the brother anymore. We were something new, something exciting and terrifying.
Maybe falling in love with Nico Hischier wasn’t part of the plan. But in the end, I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.

WOULD YOU RATHER JACK HUGHES
jack hughes x fem!reader
FAITHLYNN’S 500 CELLY!
🌷: “You met me yesterday,” “Yes, and I would die for you. Next question,” with Jack.
warnings: alcohol
notes: this takes place during the 2023 All-Star break
i couldn’t tell you how i, someone who lives in New Jersey, became best friends with a hockey player that lives in Vancouver. well, technically i could, we met when he was here for a game, but it still baffles me that we became best friends. you would think that if i were to become friends with any hockey players, it would be one from team that i actually root for, but Quinn Hughes had other plans, and now here i am a year later, getting ready for him to pick me up to hang out with some of his other friends and his brother.
it’s the All-Star break and Quinn flew into town yesterday to spend a few days with his brother and i before he’ll accompany his brother to the All-Star game. Jack and i officially met yesterday, when the three of us went out to dinner, and we got along pretty well, so i’m excited to head over to his apartment and meet some of his teammates.
i’m slipping my shoes on when there’s a quick knock on my door before Quinn walks right in.
“you ready for drinking games with guys who can handle double the liquor you can?” he jokes and i snicker, nodding my head.
“let’s do this.” i tell him, and we head out to the uber he had waiting to take us to Jack’s. the ride is fairly quick, and once we get there, Quinn repeats the quick knock and walk in he did at my own apartment. i follow behind him shyly.
“you’re here!” Jack daps up his brother and then turns to me, giving me a hug. “good to see you again.”
“you too.” i reply. Jack turns to the four guys straggling around his a place.
“guys, this is Quinn’s best friend, y/n. y/n, these are my teammates; John Marino, Dawson Mercer, and Nico Hischier.” he does quick introductions before letting letting Quinn and i know to help ourselves to the drinks in the fridge.
a few hours later we’re all spread across the living room, playing ‘would you rather’, all of us tipsy at the very least.
“Nico, would you rather never get a goal again, or never be able to bring your sister to team events again?” Dawson asks, making the other guys cackle and Nico flush red.
“i love Nina, but i’d rather not bring her to anything ever again. i have to get that 100th goal.” Nico says, and the other boys boys cheer in agreement.
“Jack, would you rather…” Nico trails off, thinking of a question before he speaks again. “would you rather die to save y/n, or live the rest of your life without hockey?”
“die to save y/n. easily.“ Jack answers.
“you met me yesterday.” i laugh.
“yes, and i would die for you. i can’t live without hockey.” he jokes. “next question, y/n, would you rather kiss Quinn, or kiss me?”
“i plead the fifth.” i blush, taking a shot from the bottle of tequila sitting on the coffee table.
“oh my god, you’re blushing! now you have to tell us!” Marino exclaims, leaning forward and resting his forearms on his thighs.
“yeah, c’mon y/n! tell us!” Jack eggs on, nudging my side from his spot next to me.
“no! i don’t wanna hurt anyone’s feelings!” i giggle, a hiccup coming out as well due to my intoxicated state, making the guys all bust out laughing.
“you won’t hurt our feelings, just answer!” Quinn tells me.
“fine. i would say Jack, because Quinn is like a brother to me and i think i would feel weird kissing him.” i confess, hiding my face behind my hands.
“oh thank god!” Quinn let’s out, making me bring my hands down to look at him. he snickers- “sorry, i just— you’re like a little sister to me, and it would’ve been so awkward if you had said me.”
“then why’d you make me say it?!” i ask, exasperatedly.
“because i was curious.” he bites back a grin.
“so, y/n, you wanna kiss me, huh?” Jack pipes up from my other side and i turn my sights on him, finding a smirk on his face.
“that wasn’t the question.”

CRUEL SUMMER — NICO HISCHIER
nico hischier x fem!reader
FAITHLYNN’S 500 CELLY!
🌻: Cruel Summer with Nico
maybe it wasn’t the best idea to join my best friend in his home country for the summer. saying yes to spending two months with Nico in Switzerland was definitely not my brightest moment, because now i’m sat in the grass, watching as my very shirtless, very hot, best friend with benefits jumps into a lake.
okay, maybe it’s not the coming to Switzerland that was the problem. maybe it was the nights i’ve spent sneaking over to his room, maybe it was the time i spent tangled up in his sheets only to have nothing change between us. maybe it’s the fact that i wait with baited breath for him to either confess that he loves me or for him to tell me we should stop our late night activities. in whatever case, this has been a cruel summer with him.
**
i’m outside the bar, waiting for Nico’s sister, Nina to bring the car around. Nico stands next me, helping support my drunken self, and whispering sweet words in my ear.
“it’s okay, i’ve got you, y/n.” he tells me as Nina pulls up. he helps me into the back of the car before taking a seat in the front with his sister. he turns to look at me when Nina starts driving. “don’t worry, i’ll take care of you when we get back.”
his sweet nature makes tears well in my eyes, and knowing that he’s doing this out of the kindness of his heart, even though we’re only friends, makes me let out a sob. i want to be more. i want to be so much more. i want him to take care of me because he loves me. i want to be able to stay in his bed on the morning instead of sneaking back to my own. i want to call him my boyfriend and tell him i love him. but i can’t do those things, because we’re only friends.
“hey, hey! what’s wrong? why are you crying?” his tone is sweet and comforting, his eyes full of worry, and it only makes me cry harder. “y/n/n, please tell me what’s wrong.”
i continuously shake my head, refusing to spill the words that rest on my tongue. even in my drunken state, i know that would end badly. it doesn’t take more than a few minutes to reach his families house and Nico quickly helps me out of the car and to his bedroom, where he grabs me some sweatpants and a t-shirt to change into. he waits in the hall while i change and when he comes back in, i’m sat on his bed. he holds a pair of fuzzy socks he must have retrieved from my room, and offers to help me take my makeup off and brush my teeth, which makes me start crying again.
“okay, hey. please tell me why you’re crying. did i do something? i don’t understand.” he whispers, crouching down to look at my face. he looks down for a second to pull the socks onto my feet, and the gesture is my breaking point. i let the words i’ve been dying to say all summer, get free.
“i love you. ain’t that the worst thing you’ve ever heard?” he freezes, and i mentally prepare myself for him to reject me. but when he looks up at me again, he wears a wide grin.
“i love you too.” he whispers, rising to his feet and pulling me up with him so that my chest is against his.
“you do?” i sniffle.
“yes. did you really think i was sleeping with you if i didn’t love you? i don’t do that, y/n/n.” he tells me. he bends down, capturing my lips in his, engaging us in a slow and passionate kiss. pulling away, he tucks a lock of hair behind my ear. “and to answer your question; i think it might be the best thing i’ve ever heard.”
