Ubuyashiki family is known for their soothing personality and presence, causing everyone who listen to them feel at ease and they show respect at the family especially to the leader. The yandere characters are not an exception and they fall hard to the reader. They want to protect her also because she has sickness/curse. Its your choice what will happen in the story.

-When the gods and warriors of humanity had been invited to meet with the leader of the Demon Slayer Corps, after demons led by Muzan invaded Valhalla, they didn’t know what type of person to expect.

-Many thought being the leader of the Demon Slayer Corps, after meeting many of the corps members and the strongest of the bunch, by the title of Hashira, that you were going to be a fearsome warrior, one that drove fear into the hearts of many.

-They were not expecting you, a petite little female, wearing a beautiful dark green yukata with a haori covered in fall maple leaves all over it, being guided in by your much younger siblings.

-The curse that had taken you when you were alive on earth was still apparent on your otherwise beautiful skin, covering your eyes, leaving you completely blind. While you were no longer in pain due to this curse, as you died in your prime, shortly after your eyes were taken, you still carried the curse and were weak as a result.

-Due to your curse, you never had children, it wasn’t safe to do so, but your younger siblings who you died protecting before they followed, were still young enough to be safe from the curse, and they would never be infected as they couldn’t age.

-All members of your corps, including the Hashira, all kneeled, bowing their heads to you, greeting you as the leader and your guests were all quite surprised to see that you were the leader.

-Despite not being a warrior yourself, the warriors under your care and guidance, and Kojiro, a longtime friend of yours, all treated you with so much respect that it was a little unnerving.

-Your voice was gentle, like a ringing bell, it was smooth and calming, “Thank you all for coming, Rengoku, you were the one who came on behalf of these warriors, you may lead this discussion.”

-Rengoku bowed his head to you as your little sisters helped you kneel down onto your floor pillow before they sat on their own pillows behind you.

-You mostly listened, hearing your corps members talking about where the demons had been spotted while the gods and warriors provided layout information of the different pantheons and more information about where the demons are attacking.

-When things started to get heated you lifted a hand and instantly your demon slayers went silence, bowing in apology as you spoke, your voice soothing, “Anger will solve nothing my dear ones, it will only lead to more problems. We’ve been discussing things for a few hours now. Everyone is dismissed for a break.”

-Your corps members thanked you, not willing to argue but Zeus approached you, sitting nearby, “Wouldn’t it be wiser to continue and wrap things up?” you looked in his direction, your smile soft, “I know you and many others, myself included, would like to have a solution to everything at the moment. But taking a break and getting some to eat would refresh our bodies and minds and make it easier to think more clearly.”

-He chuckled softly, stroking his beard, “You are young, but you are very wise. Very well, we shall take a break.”

-The room quickly became quieter as everyone left to go get something to eat or rest and you dismissed your sisters to do the same, Tanjiro beaming at you saying that he would take them with him, Zenitsu, Inosuke, and Nezuko, which you smiled softly at, thanking him.

-Once everyone seemed to be gone, you turned your head to the side, “Are you not going with them?”

-He flinched, surprised that you had sensed him so easily as he stood and approached, taking a seat in front of you.

-He was silent for only a moment, “How did you sense me so easily?” you smiled gently, it looked so beautiful, “Losing one of my senses years ago helped me train my others to be more sensitive.” He nodded softly, not bothered before he asked you more questions, asking about the corps and how it was that you were the leader when you were so young. He felt a sort of pull to you, wanting to protect you, keep you safe, you seemed so helpless, but he knew you were anything but. His desire only seemed to grow when he asked why you weren’t married and you gave a soft, humorless giggle, “Not many want to marry a woman who is doomed to die from her curse. I can’t even have children safely without risking myself or the child. I was unmarried on earth, and here I remain the same.” His eyes instantly hardened, feeling anger for you before taking the plunge, “Would you marry me?” you were honestly stunned, lifting a hand to your face, “Oh my- you’re quite bold aren’t you. Please don’t tease me like th-” his hands cupped your own between his, “I’m not joking, I would love you, Y/N. I don’t care if you can’t have children, I only want to love you and be at your side.” your cheeks warmed, turning red as you pulled back, your free hand lifting to hide your mouth, “Hearing you actually say it is so different than seeing it in a precognition vision.” He chuckled softly, relaxing, remembering Brunnhilde mentioning that you were able to see glimpses of the future. His hand was gentle, holding your own, stroking the back of your hand gently as you gave him a small nod, which made him inhale deeply, feeling overwhelmed with happiness, but did nothing other than lifting your hand to his lips, pecking the back of it as he made a promise to make you happy. You knew he was telling the truth, he was going to make you so happy, if he survived your Hashira who were rather protective over you.

-He chuckled softly as he stood, coming over, “You’re quite sharp, aren’t you?” you smiled gently as he took a seat beside you, to look out at the garden, “I could hear your breathing. Having lost my sight helped me strengthen my ears.” He chuckled warmly but nodded softly, not that you could see it, “You’re pretty amazing, Y/N, I hope you know that.” His words took you a bit by surprise, “Oh- you’re very sweet. Thank you.” He chuckled again before speaking, his tone a bit more serious, “But I’m serious, you’re fighting a curse but still leading all of your warriors, and you’re even leading us. You’re so calm!” You felt the breeze drift in from the garden, bring the scent of flowers with it, “A gentle breeze brings no damage, it only soothes, while a gale will only bring destruction and anger. Anger will solve nothing, it will only bring more problems, that’s why I try to keep others calm.” He chuckled softly, putting a hand on your own, surprising you, “Yeah, I get that, and you do it so well. Just sitting here with you, I feel so at ease, it’s almost like we’re married!” you smiled softly, reaching a hand over to his cheek, cupping it after you touched it, “You wouldn’t want to marry someone like me, I can’t even see you, and I can’t have children. You should be with someone who makes you happy.” His hand gripped your own, holding it gently, “That’s for me to decide, Y/N, and you make me happy, I don’t care about having children if I can just be with you.” You were stunned by his words but smiled softly, your eyes closing, “You’re very sweet.” He chuckled warmly, keeping ahold of your hand, but you did nothing to pull it away, it felt so warm, and you felt happy. You could feel what he was feeling, you felt so at ease.

The World in Deeper Inspection UPDATE Read: (Chapter 1: Pages 25 to 28)

About the comic

Grimsley seeks out the advice of his begrudging ally Nikolas, who goes on a long rant.

Some lettering improvements mainly.

The most dense layout with regards to lettering. It was a challenge to reconfigure the flow of the layout, but I certainly had the benefit of hindsight. When I was doing this spread originally in 2013, I drew the panels as separate pieces without any consideration for how the dialogue would fit into the negative spaces and around the characters. The dialogue was an afterthought.

For the 2023 layout, the dialogue flow is still the same – what’s better now is that the composition and characters are all in keeping with the flow. Grimsley’s fancy flourish brackets his gleeful response in the first panel; the third panel’s composition is flipped and zoomed out to provide more negative space for the dialogue; the tower in the third panel is also working as a physical delineation – similar to a paragraph break – between Grimsley’s retort and Nikolas’ rant; and everything and everyone’s been shuffled a little to the left or right or wherever they needed to go.

The energy is low

This week, my creative energy has been running a bit low. I'm not lacking inspiration by any means but rather reaching for my projects has been slow and whilst I knit a couple of rows here and there, I've found myself just resting and sitting still whilst watching TV instead.

I have been loving the Wallgren podcast, she weaves, sews and knits and really talks about creating in a beautifully passionate way. The complex patterns she enjoys making are beautiful and her voice is quite a calm tone and her pace of speaking moderate and balanced.

So when I have been reaching for my projects, it has been with the goal of finishing my Badger Sweater I'm finally on the cuffs, and then will be able to bind off and block and see how truly oversized cosy it will be. I did a mid-project block of the colourwork and it was still right on gauge, so I'm hopeful this will hit around my hip line once blocked. I am an aggressive blocker, which means I will pin the garment into submission if it isn't reaching the dimensions I need... rightly or wrongly...

Lastly, here's how my test knit for the Nikola Sweater by Vert and Rose Knitting is progressing. I'm struggling to motivate myself to finish. There's nothing wrong with the pattern, it's more because I know I "have to" do something and so I procrastinate its completion... I told myself this weekend would be dedicated to completing the sleeves - which to be honest, should not take ages to finish as it's an aran/worsted weight pattern.

BUT I've been in and out of the house so I've had the perfect excuse to manage any minor feelings of guilt - for not setting time aside to finish these sleeves. I also know this is entirely not my style and because it's intended as a gift, I guess maybe that's also why I'm dragging my feet a little.

I want it to be ready for the recipient for their birthday (which aligns with the deadline for testing) - but also because it's not 'for me' - that eagerness one feels to 'finish the product to wear it', isn't there.

Inspiration Collection

On top of this, last week after I posted my update on what I'm update, I went into my studio (read spare bedroom) and tidied up my yarn. I've stopped calling it my 'stash' because I want to remind myself that it's my source of creativity. It's my collection for inspiration - rather than a hoard of materials that one forgets about or changes their mind on.

I have gone through all the stages of acquisitions from FOMO at a yarn festival (you know those sweater quantity ('SQ') or hand-dyed skeins that looked beautiful and you didn't know you'd find again...) to FOMO from shop updates during preorders... (we have a lot of unspun because of this) to "I'll buy SQ because I know I'll use this, I just don't know the pattern yet". Part of reorganising has been to visually layout my collection based on colours and tones to help display my materials like a 'shop'. This is going to help me walk in and 'shop' from my collection first before opting to buy. Having said this, I picked up a couple of colour variations (2) from Knitting for Olive from a Local Yarn Shop - because I spotted Brown Bear and Dark Petroleum Green which could be great substitutes in the Iris Sweater, which I talk about in my first post.

Hello, hello, I am sorry, that this took too long. Here, have a little Helen/Nikola ish snippet from the (so far not existing) series 'Midnights', from the story 'Labyrinth'.

"Oh no" Helen all buy whispered into the empty space of her office, as the realization washed over her. Before she had any more time to spiral further, a voice from her left brought her back to reality.

"Oh no, what?", asked Nigel from the door, layout plans in his hands,"Is something going wrong with the tunnel system? Any annoying contractors being useless for the underground place? Nikola being a pain?"

"No, no. Everything down here is working according to plan", Helen assured him. She was very grateful to have her friend down here with her during her second turn through history, it made the silence a little more manageable.

"And Nikola has been not more than usual"

Nigel suddenly cooed, looking at her like a cat that got the canary.

"It's been a while since I've seen that face, now that you're all grown up. It is finally happening, isn't it?"

At the sudden change in topic, Helen was left confused, "What is?"

"You're falling in love with him"

"I am not!", she replied way too fast and too loud, very well aware she was lying through her teeth. If Nigels playful expression wad anything to go by, so did he. It made her falter a little. Also, they were friends, why shouldn't she talk to him about it? He had been there for everything after all.

"I hadn't realised how much I missed him until I saw him again. And how much I am missing the person I know he'll become", she relented.

Nigel's face had morphed into something warmer, even as the playfulness stayed, "Oh you are totally falling in love with him"

There was a short moment, the turmoil from before Nigel haf entered the room coming back.

"Yeah", Helen whispered.

After all being offered what might be the lowest apartment rent in LA, a group of mismatched tenants start noticing some weird stuff about their new home. Bright green cockroaches with too many legs, a wall that’s freezing cold, apartments that are huge or have weird layouts, complex population calculations and circuitry below the painted walls, a massive geothermal generator miles below the ground, and whatever’s going on with the completely blocked off Apartment number 14.

-Tennants-

Nathan “Nate” Tucker: Caleb A very normal guy with a very boring job in Data Entry in LA. After being offered an apartment for a ridiculously low rate, he moves into the Kavach Building. He ends up as the impromptu leader of the tenants, who slowly shift from a vaguely acquainted group of random people to a makeshift apocalypse prevention team.

Malavika "Veek" Vishwanath: Felicia A woman who works from home as a “call center employee”. In actuality, hacking and web investigation pays the bills. She’s closed-off and snarky, but does care for the group. She ends up with Caleb by the end.

Xela (Zeila?? Literally what is this girl’s name): Conny A bubbly, blue-haired Artist with massive social anxiety and a liking for the Greek Mythos. Has a large snarky streak, meaning she tends to bicker with Felicia.

Roger: Starro A outgoing wannabe actor who is stuck in set design. He does like his job, even if it isn’t his dream. Says “dude” a lot and has a hopeless crush on Conny.

Tim Farr: Charles A “retired publisher” who knows way too much about survival and has an arsenal of weapons big and varied enough to rival a police station. Turns out, his “publishing job” was probably the CIA. He’s being tracked by a PI because of his past.

Debbie: Elysia A very quiet ballet dancer who’s getting a degree in biology. She’s a good baker and very sweet, although she doesn’t handle the dangers of the Kavach building very well. At least she has her husband around.

Clive: Blaze A self-employed carpenter and the third guy who knows how to use power tools in the building. He’s upbeat and a bit dumb, but beloved by and super supportive of everyone.

Mandy: Umbra A nervous wreck who wants NOTHING and I mean NOTHING to do with the group’s investigations. Period. She ends up getting dragged into it anyways.

Ms. Linda(?) Knight: Sun The oldest tenant and everyone’s favorite snarky grandma. Nobody is spared. She also gets thrown into space. No, you don’t get context for that.

Oskar: Jacob The kind but a bit intimidating manager for the Kavach building. Very German. He knows both more and less than he’s letting on. Keeps telling everyone to stop investigating the horrors, to literally no success.

Andrew: Vamp A cleanly dressed member of some congregation. Everyone assumes she’s hardcore Mormon or something. But it gets more and more apparent as time goes on that whatever she worships, it sure isn’t a god we’re familiar with.

-The Cool Old People-

Alexander Kotorovich (please tell me I spelled that right): Dusk Saw beyond the veil, single-handedly figuring out the interdimensional threat to the world. She was called crazy, but she was right, and with her colleagues, she created the Kavach building. She died brutally inside the machine that she adored in the 1800’s.

Nikola Tesla yes that Nikola Tesla: Dialtone Dusk’s business partner and one of the people who helped turn her ideas into a physical reality.

W.P. (I can’t remember his name help): Uhhhhh like freaking Abayomi or smth Funded the Kavach building. He told his grandson (H.P. Lovecraft, yes THAT H.P. Lovecraft) the stories of Dusk’s theories after being minorly traumatized. Poor guy.

-the Horrors-

The Great Old One (“The Squale”): Clown Termed “the Squale (squid-whale)” by Conny in an attempt to make it less threatening. Whatever it is, it really wants worship and to eat all of humanity. The Kavach building is the only thing standing in its way.

The Kavach Building: It’d be really silly if it was House A huge machine created by Dusk, Dialtone, and Abayomi. Not alive in the original, buuuut heck why not make it House. It is benevolent, and saves the world every second that it exists. It is studied closely by the government and the manager. The control center is in Blaze and Elysia’s room, and apartment 14 just straight up leads to deep space as a counterweight for all of the dimension shifting that the control room does.

-Extras-

Anne: Niko Caleb’s coworker. Likes pizza. Thinks he’s pretty cool.

Eddie: Zachariah Caleb’s boss. Not too good at his job but goodness is he trying. Eddie sucks in the original but Zach in this version is a seriously cool guy.

Carmichael: Calamity Investigating Charles at the behest of the government. May or may not be dead by the end of the novel. Oops.

so does anybody have any thoughts about the last chapter what is it does dazai want to do exactly and what is he leaving to sigma to do? I feel like dazai is one going to meet up with fydor but that wouldn't be logical because these two men just tried drowning each other and I don't see dazai and fydor fighting anytime soon (physical) they fight each other mentally because that's more of their style. I somewhat believe that dazai is going to get chuuya not just because he cares about chuuya I believe his going to get or "save?" Chuuya because his needed for dazais escape somehow even though that logical doesn't make sense and dazai probably only needs himself and sigma. Although the prison dazai is in is for ability users right? There is that small chance that chuuya's ability is needed for something I don't know what it could be because I or no one knows the layout of the prison but it could be possible thats why dazai would "save" chuuya (also it could be that dazai wants to save chuuya just because he cares) that could be possible, but I think chuuya can save himself because chuuya is acting somewhat conscience and not really in his vampire state I don't know that could be and I'm trying to think but I have no clue. Back to what I was saying. I think sigma is going to meet Nikola again just because Nikola has been watching the whole time.

On Set Production classes so far

Monday 25th September:

We were working from a script outlining a short dinner scene. It had one character, and a few lines of dialogue. The aim of this exercise was to effectively set up some props to convey certain character traits and to practice production design. In this scene, we interpreted the character to have a degree of OCD, or be a perfectionist through the way the objects were placed on the table. We also had the idea to make her slightly schizophrenic, as she was talking to herself.

Working as production designer myself with Nikola, we gathered together props from reading through the script. We asked around to see what we could find from what people already had, and I bought an extra few things. We ended up with candles, lanterns and a few small vases, as well as typical plates, silverware and wine glasses. There was also a pill box which added to the storyline of her mental problems. The lamp acted as a great practical, giving a warm homely feeling to the scene.

I volunteered to act this day, and ended up envisioning this character as someone who thinks they have their life together, but really lives in her own head. I’m no great actress, but was able to picture how this character may act, enough so to capture a decent master shot.

Monday 2nd October

In the morning, we were lucky enough to have production designer Mark Leese visit us and talk a bit about his work. He read through a scene with us and really brought clarity to how one may design it. Describing a variety of situations and character types, everyone was able to visualise the room in which this scene was taking place. Mark was very interactive and encouraged us to come up with our own ideas regarding furniture, costumes, time of day, even small details such as the colour of the walls and type of floor. Everything contributes with how the audience reads the characters and the situation they are in.

Unfortunately, this afternoon I was feeling under the weather and therefore wasn’t involved in our interpretation of this scene. However, my group sent me some pictures of what they got up to and I was impressed with how well they managed to convey the mood read in the script.

Monday 9th October

Today we were re doing the script we read on the 25th of September, the dinner scene. We managed to find the majority of the same props we used before, but changed our idea slightly. We added a new character, someone who comes in and cares for the one laying the table. Our aim of the day was to achieve 5 or so shots to be able to give to the post production students to edit.

We started with DOP Oliwia creating a shot list while Nikola and I set up the table. We changed the layout of the objects from before, organising them in a neat formation in the middle. Robbie acted today, as I wanted to focus on production design and observing camera. Once I had completed the set, I found myself with not much to do other than keeping an eye on the continuity of the props. Instead, here’s what I learnt from watching others:

- 1st AC and 2nd AC work together to build the camera and take it apart once finished. The lens goes on the camera last.

- A radio mic can be taped to the inside of a T-shirt so that it is ensured to be hidden.

- ‘Soft sticks’ when the clapper is used in a close up.

- The smallest movement in an object makes a big difference for production design. Look at the negative space as well.

- The DOP or 1st AC can call ‘camera cut’ after director calls cut.

- Tennis balls to ensure safety when c stands stick out.

- Don’t put a cable underneath c stand/ lighting equipment.

Apex Legends: The Board Game Now Live on Kickstarter

Static Is Back | COMIC BOOK REVIEW

It’s time to put a shock back to your system. That's right, after its short-lived run as a part of DC's New 52, the electrifying teen superhero is gracing the pages of DC comics once again. 

The series is titled, Static: Season One, written by Vita Ayala and art by Chriscross and Nikolas Draper-Ivey. The first issue of this six-part series was released on June 15th, 2021. 

Static isn’t the only hero from Milestone Comics making their return. Both Icon & Rocket and Hardware are receiving six-part series as well, officially re-establishing the “Dakotaverse”.

For those of you who don’t know what the “Dakotaverse” is, let me give you a quick rundown. The “Dakotaverse" refers to all characters licensed by DC Comics from Milestone Comics. All characters involved are based in/operate out of the fictional city of Dakota, whose population is majority Black with a heavy gang presence. Milestone Comics’ creator, the truly incomparable Dwayne McDuffie (may he rest in peace) and Denys Cowan, wanted to write stories featuring Black heroes so readers could see that heroes come in all colors. They also wrote stories from their own experiences which is why Dakota is a stand-in for any inner city in America.

The following will be a review for both Milestone Returns and Static: Season One #1. Spoiler Warning.

Milestone Returns is essentially issue 0 for the three new series being revived, Static, Icon & Rocket, and Hardware. For both Static and Hardware, it revamps their origin stories. Originally, Virgil Hawkins, Static, gains his powers because he was dragged into a gang war and was exposed to an explosion of strange gas. This event is known as the “Big Bang”. In Milestone Returns, the “Big Bang” happens at a Black Lives Matter protest in Dakota when the police decide to use an experimental “tear gas” on the protesters. 

Of course, updating Static’s origins allows readers to connect with the story on a personal level, given the events of 2020. This also aligns with McDuffie’s goal of using common experiences to tell amazing stories.

Hardware is introduced as the scientist, Dr. Curtis Metcalf, who developed the gas for Alva Industries (evil corporation). He is immediately blamed for the “Big Bang”. Seeing the writing on the wall, Dr. Metcalf runs to his secret lab to transform his body and equip armor with a lot of firepower.

Icon and Rocket's origins aren't fully explored here, but it does establish that Icon is an alien who has been on Earth for a looooong time. He is a Superman-like hero with several abilities even known to him. Rocket, on the other hand, is a girl from Dakota that met Icon and convinced him to clean up the drug problem in Dakota.

Milestone Returns defines the social issues created by the “Big Bang”, basically the same problems seen in the X-Men comics. We are shown Virgil’s first conflict with school bully turned pyromaniac villain, Hotstreak, and the rise of the big bad, Holocaust. There are a few smaller stories included in this comic but I'll let you read those for yourself.

Milestone Returns is a showcase of what we can expect in the future from the new writers and artists for these series. I highly recommend reading this comic if for nothing else seeing Virgil let out some major voltage. I rate it a 7/10.

Static: Season One #1 continues to dive into Virgil’s thoughts about all the changes he is going through. After his fight with Hotstreak, he’s worried he can’t control this new power. To his relief, no one except Hotstreak and Virgil’s friends, Frieda and Richie, knows he has powers. 

Virgil is constantly feeling the buzz of electricity under his skin. While it isn’t hurting him, the pressure of controlling it is causing anxiety and irritability with those he's close to. Add in the trauma of being hospitalized by the "Big Bang" and knowing that the person that hates him the most could barbeque him, it's a lot for a 16-year-old to handle. It's a lot for anyone to handle.

The artwork and paneling in this comic are stunning. I am loving Virgil's new design. The characterization of Virgil, his family, and Hotstreak is perfect. Artist Nikolas Draper-Ivey has stated multiple times on Twitter that he wanted to give this series a cinematic quality. He has not disappointed the reader, so far. There are two scenes between Virgil and his family, one before the "Big Bang" and one in the present. The page layouts are identical but the conversations are very different in tone, and I am just amazed by these scenes.

I was already a Static fan before reading this comic, and now I’ve fallen in love with the character all over again. I rate this issue 9.5/10.

The next issue of Static doesn’t have a release date yet, but in the meantime, Icon & Rocket will be released in July and Hardware in August.

TL/DR: Static is back and it’s really good.
