Terror Bird shares new single ‘Feels Like Love’

'Feels Like Love’ is the new single from Canada’s Terror Bird, featuring the recording debut of singer-songwriter Nikki Nevver's two younger sisters on synthesizer and backing vocals during a basement recording session in Los Angeles by a fellow artist/mutual fan from the dark wave scene. The intentionally minimalist ‘Feels Like Love’ displays hushed, intimate vocals alongside lush synthesized strings, a pulsating bass, and reverberating, tragic piano.

It is a frank winter story of unrequited love during the start of an ill-fated relationship with a man who came from Melbourne to Vancouver without the intention of ever falling in love.

Terror Bird - The Wrong Way (from All This Time LP)

I have to admit that before listening to 'All This Time' I had not heard much about Terror Bird. But as I liked what I heard I decided to seek out more info before I shared the music with you. So here is what I know now: Terror Bird is Nikki Nevver, a Canadian artist. 'All This Time' is the fourth  album for the Terror Bird project and the first to be released on the Night School Label.

Although the cover art made think it was going to be some lofi or jangly indie guitar music, in fact it is very much synth-driven music heavy with piano sounds and electronic percussion. The album was recorded completely solo in her bedroom over a period of five months, eschewing the live drumming and studio production of previous releases. Nikki's voice dominates proceedings and ads to the downbeat retro feel of the album, which according to the label blurb was recorded during a period of intense emotional upheaval when she was undergoing major shifts in her personal life. Despite the dark tone, or perhaps because of it, the album is completely engaging, and while listening to I constantly want to compare it to other artists, I never quite manage to put my finger on who they are.
