Adidas and Patrick Mahomes Sign Six Texas Tech Student-Athletes to Inaugural "Team Mahomes"

Adidas and NFL superstar Patrick Mahomes have taken their partnership with Texas Tech University to the next level by signing six standout student-athletes to Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deals, officially making them the first-ever members of "Team Mahomes." This announcement comes just weeks after Adidas and Texas Tech unveiled a groundbreaking 10-year partnership, designating Adidas as the official footwear, uniform, apparel, and accessory partner of the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

The inaugural Team Mahomes roster includes six talented athletes: Micah Hudson (Football), NiJaree Canady (Softball), Jasmine Shavers (Basketball), Matthew Comegys (Golf), Sam Courtwright (Soccer), and TJ Pompey (Baseball). Each was personally welcomed to the team by Patrick Mahomes himself, who made a surprise visit to Texas Tech’s campus. During his visit, Mahomes gifted the athletes customized gear from his signature Adidas line and shared his excitement for the partnership.

Mahomes expressed his enthusiasm, saying, "The energy around this partnership has been incredible, and this announcement shows just how important this is to me, Adidas, and Texas Tech. Adidas has been a collaborative partner from the start, and we worked together to select athletes who are among the best and embody the drive and dedication we’re looking for in a Team Mahomes athlete. As part of their NIL deals, these student-athletes will participate in brand marketing campaigns for Mahomes’ signature shoe and apparel line with Adidas, further elevating their presence in the sports and fashion world.

In addition to welcoming the newest members of Team Mahomes, Mahomes made another surprise visit to the Red Raiders football team, where he unveiled new uniforms that will be revealed and worn later this fall. This visit highlights the growing collaboration between Texas Tech and Adidas, which is poised to become one of the strongest and most visible partnerships in college sports.

Chris McGuire, Adidas Vice President of Sports Marketing, emphasized the significance of the partnership: "Our belief is that long-term equity in sport starts with investment, which is why we’re proud to have worked with Patrick in welcoming such an incredible group of student-athletes to the three stripes family."

Adding to the excitement, Mahomes also announced a major donation to Texas Tech Athletics, contributing to the completion of the $240 million South End Zone and Dustin R. Womble Football Center project, which is set to open this season. This gesture further solidifies Mahomes' commitment to his alma mater and his desire to give back in a meaningful way.

Texas Tech's Director of Athletics, Kirby Hocutt, praised the creation of Team Mahomes, stating, "This wouldn’t be possible without a tremendous partner in Adidas that believes strongly in investing in our student-athletes under the Patrick Mahomes brand. In this era of sports, there aren’t many generational athletes like Patrick Mahomes who promote their alma mater so proudly and give back in such a meaningful manner."

In addition to the six NIL deals announced, all eligible student-athletes at Texas Tech can join Adidas' historic NIL Ambassador Network. This initiative allows student-athletes at Adidas-partnered Division 1 schools to benefit from their Name, Image, and Likeness, with over 12,000 athletes nationwide already participating and earning from their involvement in key products and campaigns.
