If we're not counting childhood anime (Pokémon was my first), then Vampire Knight was my first anime. I'm from the US (Utah). But I read manga long before I got into watching anime. Nightmare Inspector might be the first manga.
That post about death note being "everyone's first anime" (untrue statement) made me curious and now I want to gather data for science
