Parade of Nations - Niger
French: Niger // English: Niger // Japanese: ニジェール (Nijēru)
Niger formed its National Olympic Committee in 1964 and participated in its first Olympics as a country at the 1964 Tokyo Summer Olympics. They haven’t hosted any Olympic Games, but they’ve participated in 12 Summer Games and no Winter Games. The Olympic sports in which Niger has medaled are Boxing and Taekwondo.
Kimono Maker: Sanae Honda/ 本田 早苗
“This kimono illustrates in a grandiose way the sand ripples with a gradient of desert colors, as the sun rises at dawn. Flowers blooming on the banks of the Niger River decorate this work wonderfully. The colors of the salt marsh, which change according to the components in the water, add a beautiful touch of color as jewels.”[1]
Obi Maker: Tatsumura Textile Co., Ltd./ 龍村美術織物
“The obi is woven with a pattern of acacia flowers in the image of the Ténéré Tree that once existed in the Aïr and Ténéré Nature Reserves, accompanied by a water motif in background, as a symbol of an oasis.” [1]
