Inspiration no63: Ironically, I’ve found out about The Face magazine almost precisely when it began its downward spiral. The most influential mag in 80s and early 90s in Britain (and quite something in Western World), has knocked on my Lithuanian door around 1998 and immediately ignited my passion for magazines. It directly influenced how mags I’ve been a part of (one called Ore, another one — Pravda) behaved, how they were written and how they even looked like. We were stealing like mad, borrowing, remixing. With passion, without a shame. So despite The Face long gone to mag Heaven together with its distant unknown cousins, the new book “The Story Of The Face: The Magazine That Changed Culture” about this Outstanding Inspirator is hugely needed. For it gathers the forgotten, the lost, wraps it up in the timeline and shines a torch on something very dear.
